[Q] Moving handwriting panel up - Galaxy Note 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
in portrait mode, is it possible to move the handwriting panel up the screen ?
It's a pain to write well at the bottom of the screen, especially when not at a desk.
In the middle of the screen, the handwriting panel would be much more comfortable to write on.
Would also be nice to have Swype's auto-spacing between words.
Thanks.

Usefull app request - T9 Touch type app

I used to touch type on old candy bar and slide phones without having to look at the screen, by feeling the dialpad keys I knew what button I was on and using the T9 dictionary it was easy, I really miss this in new phones now.
I wanted to buy a dialpad phone with Android as a 2nd phone but there are none being made so I think they are going the way of the dodo.
There is no feesable way to touch type on new phones, qwerty keyboards have too many keys, haptic feedback is in its infancy, so I propose a full screen T9 keyboard for touch typing.
The whole display would be filled with 9 or 10 buttons representing 0-9 like a standard dialpad.
This wouldn't be the main input method, I think it would be good for it to activate by pressing the volume down button twice while in a text field and deactivate by doing the same thing. Hopefully it should be possible to touch type without haptic feedback when the whole screen is filled with only 9 buttons.
Let me know what you guys think.
why the full screen??? my htc hero has softkb with t9, fills half the screen. I never use qwerty. Works like a charm. you can get the htc_ime.apk and use that.
I havent heard of anyone being able to touch type on a touchscreen phone yet, ie writing an sms while driving without looking at their phone.
If it is literally filling the whole screen it may be possible on a 3.7" screen the buttons will be big, you are either pressing one of the corners, middle or sides.
If it is filling only half the screen it becomes a lot more difficult if not impossible.

Horizontal keyboard

Hey, I was wondering if there's any way to change the keyboard text input field on android 2.1. I have the honeycomb keyboard, but it doesn't matter what keyboard you install (better keyboard, the stock samsung, 8pen, stock 2.1....)
when you turn the phone sideways, the input field at the top covers up the whole screen- anything that the keyboard doesn't.
So, even when its just a small input bar for, say, a user name on a website, the entire top half of the screen turns into to input field.
When in portrait mode, you can click on just the google search bar and still see the rest of the page. But not in landscape.
I just would like to be able to see the rest of the page while typing. Anyone know how to do this/ mod this so its possible?
Thanks

Handwriting and Shape Recognition

I just received my Note 10.1 and am loving it. The only question I have is the handwriting and shape recognition. I have opened S Note and for some reason I cannot see it anywhere. Can anybody help?
In the S Note app in the upper left hand corner inbetween the pen icon and the Text Icon is a another box. Press and hold down o that icon with finger or pen for a few seconds and a productivity toolbar will appear and you can choose between Formula, Shapes and Handwriting recognition. Hope this helps.
Any of you guys noticed that when the pen thickness is very tiny and I draw a circle, it fills it? Everytime I draw a circle, it fills it black but when I make the pen thicker, it works fine.

Yeah that's quite weird. If you move it to the next lowest thickness it doesn't do it. And it doesn't do it for other shapes.

Time for an update.
Is anyone able to enter a simple sentence without it popping into text half way through. I can't stand the fact I can't delay 'recognition' until I enter punctuation. Is there anyway to modify this behavior?
-Apologies for hijacking.

That was going to be the question I was going to ask too.

How is Surface RT in portrait mode?

How does Snap work while vertical? How about other functions?
How fast or slow is rotation? Is there a rotation lock?
Have you used the tablet in portrait mode for any use, say, as a reader? How comfortable is it to hold?
Is the on-screen keyboard usable in portrait?
TIA.
Snap requires more horizontal resolution than is available when in portrait mode, so snapped windows disappear. They come back when you return to landscape, though.
Rotation is pretty fast, taking about a second to complete the switch, but with just enough delay (and a starting animation) to let you know that it's about to happen, so you don't get it by accident.
There is an auto-rotate lock. It's on the Screen Resolution control panel widget (reachable by right-clicking on the desktop, or doing a search on "orientation" or "resolution"), right where you'd expect it from previous Windows versions.
It's very easy to use the tablet in portrait mode for reading books or web pages, although the 768 width is a little lower than most pages are written for. Holding it is extremely comfortable, although be careful not to hit the Start button by accident. Folding the Touch Cover behind the tablet while in portrait mode works great; the Type Cover works too but it feels weird to feel the keys move under your fingers. However, the keys and touchpad on either cover are disabled when it's flipped behind the tablet.
The SIP (Software Input Panel) is absolutely usable. I'm coming to love the split-keyboard mode for short amounts of text; it's designed to be used by your thumbs while your hands hold the tablet at the corners. I almost never use the "normal" on-screen keyboard. The handwriting recognition really isn't usable without a stylus, as expected..
Also just fyi, Windows button+ O is a hotkey for activating rotation lock.

@nbates66: Not working for me. Win+o, or Win+Shift+O, don't appear to do anything (at least on the desktop). Auto-rotate still occurs. Win+0 just launches the tenth thing on the taskbar, as expected. It would be great if this is usable, though. Win+P, Win+E, Win+R, Win+L, etc. all work as expected.

[Q] problem with switching between keyboard panel and s-pen handwriting panel

hi,
just bought note 8.0 gt-n5100 few days ago.
I can't figure out how the s-pen works in certain cases.
at first I couldn't activate the handwriting panel when I detached the s-pen. whether it was a web browser, S-note or whatever where text can be entered, I had only keyboard panel popping up. Which is not bad, I could use fingers or the s-pen to type the keyboard.
but I wanted the handwriting recognition tool and use it for entering web address as well as for notes.
So I found the option in settings/language and input/samsung keyboard saying that when text box is tapped with the s-pen the handwriting recognition mode is switched on.
and it works, well partly..., i.e. when I open web browser or s-note and try to enter text the keyboard panel pops up. then, when I take out the s-pen, the keyboard is replaced with the handwriting panel.
The problem is that I can't go back to the keyboard (I mean the alphabet keyboard because the symbols keyboard can be accessed from the handwriting panel). I hide the s-pen, close all apps, open them again and try to enter text - immediately handwriting panel pops up, never keyboard panel.
to activate the keyboard panel again I have to turn off the tablet and switch it on again. but once I change from the keyboard panel to the handwriting panel again, it is the same problem, I can't go back to the keyboard otherwise than by kind of reseting the tablet.
Anyone got the same issue and knows how to solve it?
every help appreciated.
thanks
