[Q] P3110 ...internal sd probs. - Galaxy Tab 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just rooted my new 3110, successfully .......(or so I thought) . Now I cannot install anything on internal SD. Whenever I try, I get "not enough space" error message - even the 2 apps(only had the tab 3 days)! that were on the sd before I rooted, have mysteriously moved to phone memory. I cant even install FolderMount , which I had already d/l. Forgive a newbie, but having rooted my Galaxy W phone 18 months ago with very few problems, was hoping tab would be as reliable. Anyone help? (as I dont want to unroot just to be able to use internal sd memory.) Thanks in anticipation.

I'm confused, how did you get apps to run on your external SD without root? Didn't know that was possible. Did you try clearing the dalvic cache? Seemed to do the trick when i had issues with lucky patcher causing that same error. I may be way off base though.
Edit: i think I'm confused, sorry, that advice is surely off. Uhm, perhaps reflashing stock and trying again, seeing as how you do not have much data to loose, using the auto root Odin flashable file.
This is what i use. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=33303017

...........Thanks for the help.. Wasnt talking about ExtSdcard, but sdcard0, the internal storage -,sorry for confusion-. Although "Install manager" shows all apps as being installed on "phone" memory, & "external" memory empty, both "Disk Usage" & "Root Explorer" show the same files/size used, in both locations, so I now figure I may have partition problems after rooting (I used this system : http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1596) Will try the auto method as per your link if I cant solve the issue (though hoping a quick fix might be possible.!) Thanks

Still "not enough space" issues.
Ok. I tried wiping data, flashing back to stock rom, then chainfires auto - root method. All went well - device rooted (again!) fine, BUT I`m STILL having problems with storage. Some apps (especially games) wont install - am getting "not enough space" message, just as before. It seems that all apps that need to be intalled on the devices internal "sd" (such as" FileMount") card just wont.
Please forgive a couple of lame questions, but having never owned a tab before, I`m new to their "vagaries" - Also I have searched here & other online forums for an answer, so forgive my badgering all you "fonts of tekkie wisdom."
. Mine is the 8gb model, & I know a lot of this is taken up by system/ram etc - the "device memory" reports a total of 4.49gb, but TB (& other root apps like sd maid) states : Rom 1.26 gb, internal 4.92GB, sd card 4.82gb (with exactly the same space used in both , i.e. 1.50gb. I also have 32gb micro sd inserted. - Is there an internal partition for the "sdcard0" space , or it there a "physical" internal sd card ? If so how do I format thhis? If not could I have a partition problem? (The reason I ask is that none of the "move to sd" apps I have tried like app2sd, install manager etc work - They state, apps have moved when they clearly havent.
So I think it may be an internal partition problem, (which I presume hasnt been solved by reflashing stock, and re- rooting.) - I did notice that when I was re-rooting by CF auto root, in odin there was partition check box, but CF instructions said "if, & ONLY IF, device is bricked, to check this box. - So how can I , - 1. confirm whats causing the problem?, & 2. -Solve it?
Thanks for any help & advise hopefully, proffered, forthwith.:fingers-crossed:

do a simple thing! factory reset your tab. click format sd ! these issues are solved just by formatting the sd, be it internal! :good::good:

Its a partition, its an emulated SD card. I think the post above me has the right idea.
Also, none of those apps will work. You will need use a sdcard swap script, gl2sd(app), foldermount, or some root app or script that is similar to those.
I think you will need a custom recovery, (like cwm, or twrp) to format the internal "sdcard", i never really used the stock recovery much, but it seems like an option they would leave out. I think there is an oden flashable in developer section. I would find links for you, but i got to get the kids ready. Shouldn't be hard to find.
If you can not format the internal SD using stock recovery, here is a link to the Odin flash able cwm.
PS. I really do not think it is a partition prob., and i wouldn't click the repartition option.

Fixed!!
OK Folks - seems I have fixed the problem, by uninstalling all apps (inc "moving" apps) that dont work or are "buggy" , cleaning/wiping caches/data, then I was able to install FolderMount from here, and now all the instability/storage problems gone. (Am so impressed with FolderMount have bought pro, as I am a bit windy when in comes to T.E`s or running scripts! My 32gb is filling fast enough anyway!)
Thanks for the help chaps - dont know what us "am hacks" would do without you! :highfive:

Android running out of internal device memory

Hello!
I have a memory problem with my Android device:
- Samsung Galaxy Tab, GT-P1000 (Europe)
- Firmware 2.2
- Kernel 2.6.32.9
- Build: Froyo
- Not rooted, no custom ROM
The device worked fine for a very long time. However, recently I got a warning that my internal device memory is low. Even though I did not install any new apps and the setup worked fine before.
I checked Android's storage menu and it stated:
- External SD card: 15/15 GB free
- Internal memory: 9/13 GB free
- Internal device memory: 0,00 B available
Afterwards, I uninstalled a couple of apps to free up the internal device memory. Now I have about 130 MB of free space, but the warning message is still shown. Even after reboot, it is still there. I cannot download new apps from the market nor reinstall old ones. Android always tells me that I'm out of storage.
So to me it seems like something is blocking my device. There is enough free space, but the system does not notice. I tried to clear the cache, but it did not help. Is there any way to fix that problem WITHOUT doing a factory reset?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Actron
Froyo supports App to SD. Try going to the application manager and moving some apps to external memory. Most things without a widget will work OK. That will free up some more space.

I have tried that already. The built-in App2SD feature always tells me that the app cannot be moved (even though the button is not grayed-out).
I consider this to be a bug in Android's memory management somewhere. None of the "normal features" to free up space could solve the problem so far. But I'm pretty sure, that some of the tech experts here know a solution. :good:
Come on, no one else got this problem before?
I can provide further information, if that helps.
But I don't want to factory reset (if that helps at all....).
Please help!
Normally cleaning out your SMS inbox and all is the simple fix to this issue. SMS and cache do take up a good amount of space on your internal memory.
i've also experience this problem on my phone (LG C660)
what i did was to root my phone and uninstalled some bloatware applications that i think i might not needed them. then install Link2SD and move other application to the SD Card.
Try clearing the cache of all your apps. I done that earlier, even though I didn't really need to, and xda app alone had 634mb.

I don't want to root my SGT yet. And I cannot install any new apps, so all app-based rooting techniques will not work anyway. But I'll put rooting + Link2SD on my todo list and try that when my tablet is up running again.

My apps are not using any cache. I checked them all and also did a reboot. This is not the problem's cause.

What "root folders" are you talking about? I have AndroZip installed, but it seems like most folders on system level are empty. And unfortunately, I cannot install any other apps to explore the file system. Android market won't let me install anything right now (as I said above).

Does not work either, I always get a warning that the app could not be moved (for whatever reason...).
As I said before: It seems like something is blocked internally. I have 136 MB of internal device memory free, so this should be enough to work with. But Android does not agree. And everything worked fine before, when I had less free memory. So what's wrong with my device!? I read about a loopback lagfix, but I'm not sure what it is. Has somebody heard about that?
Have you tried a factory restore
and jus download your apps agen
But rooting the device is better and you get more control over it
but up to you

[Q] [Help a new owner!] Incoming massive request for help.

First off let me thank everyone who is going to help me through my issue.
Everything started yesterday when I got a16 gigabytes new SD Micro card. I originally got the card so I can move my applications from the internal 16 gigabytes storage to that SD Micro card . After searching through the web I have realized that I cannot move my applications to the external memory until I root my device and so I did it using a guide from this website. after rooting my device I downloaded every application in play store that is used to move applications from the internal memory to the external one.And for some reason all of them failed'Someof them said that there is no enough memory. and some others said I have no External memory inserted "already checked in settings and it says external memory 14.98 Gb free. After that i read another guide which Said I should get Rom manager to partition my memory card.and I did download the Rom manager . I tried to partition but it said I don't have CWM , and it asked ifit should install it so I accepted. mydevice wasn't listed. I chose a random one and now I'm afraid I have broken my 3 days old note 10.1 . Could anyone help me please with
1. The Sd micro card issue(apps From internal memory't external memory.)
2. The random CWM device that I have downloaded and maybe installed.
3. Partitioning my card (if that's going to help.)
4. I'm new to android and have no idea what rooting is "although I did it anyways" and how I Can use rooting
Rooted note 10.1
Thank you again <3
Edit 1- 8 views no help? Id really appreciate it if anyone could help me.
I think some sort of reply will help you get started...
Note 10.1 only supports FAT 32. not NTFS. So you have to format your SDcard properly to begin with. I believe its true, you need to root your device to get AppOnSD support.
NEVER flash anything that is not intended SPECIFIC for your device. Always do a backup so you can restore it from an image if you happen to soft brick it.
Rooting pretty much allows you to get "super user" functionality. Most notably the ability to access system files.

I'll try to help with fixing your Note.
Can you get into download mode? Start with power off and press volume down and power at the same time.
If so download Check Fus (GGI version) from fus.nanzen.se and make you have Odin and the Samsung drivers as described in the how to root thread.
Check the back of your Note for version number; N8000, N8010 or N8013. Use Check Fus to download the correct rom for your country. If not the nearest one.
Follow the how to root guide (sticky in development) that explains how to install the rom. This should put you back where you started. Now, read a lot. Don't use Rom Manager.
http://rootgalaxynote.com/galaxy-note-10-1-root/how-to-root-galaxy-note-10-1/ How to root instructions. Your replacing the rom from the instructions with the one you downloaded from Check Fus.

I said I think I broke my note because I downloaded and installed a random cmw from Rom manager when I tried partition my sd card .
And I have a problem moving apps to the sd card. In app2sd it says it's emulated andin droids it says memory is full.
Then I'll back out. I've no experience of apps2sd on the Note. Have had no cause to use it. I strongly suggest you read a lot more before you attempt anything else involving door, partitions or CWM.

Normally you can clear caches and it will work otherwise uninstall the app and reinstall. If you have to uninstall make a data backup first. What it equates to is the app dev didnt put a call in to remove the app prior to installing the new version. Ive run into this with Plague Inc. and Ive sent a bug report to the app dev. I suggest the same for whatever app you are having issues with.
I've tried the whole "clear your caches and fix your permissions" thing, and, at least from what I can tell, you can't install anything through Play/Market unless you have at least ~55 MB of space available (even if you are installing to microSD or replacing a currently installed app). I'm not sure quite where the threshold is, but it is somewhere around there.
I can't answer "Why?" as it is in Google proprietary code and I don't have the source available.
I have tried clearing caches and dalvic.. also reinstalled gapps.. can't get it to work..

Have you cleared data from Google Services Frameworks? That has fixed every market issue I've ever run into. If jeff is saying it's coded to not let you install with under 55mb of space left I believe him though.
I can't be sure it's "coded that way," but I haven't found a way to get Play/Market to install when I get down somewhere below 60 MB free space, including flashing a new ROM, clearing cache, fixing permissions, reinstalling gapps, and probably a few other things I've tried. There are definitely days when I wish someone would prove my theory wrong!
I believe Jeff no doubt but I have 66.1mb available..

i have this problem when there's an update for the "Dark Jelly" theme i have. i found the only way to get it to update really is to uninstall it and then re-install. i know its a pain in the arse, but its the only way i found to update it.
I had to move some apps from the internal storage to the SD card to overcome this problem. I'm on the Galaxy Beam rom
Apps2SD problem
My Apps2sd (in ROM toolbox) was set to install to SD card automatically and as soon as I changed it AUTO (location) problem was fixed.
Anyone know how to install Apps to the SD card by default? :S
I've been using Titanium Backup to manually move my apps to the SD card.

My husband's Galaxy S 4G is having the same problem with erroneous memory capacity error message. It seems happen after he adds an app. And we are not sure why the error message goes away WHEN it does go away. Can you clear the Google Services Frameworks without removing important info he has put in the apps, or will it delete any apps?. Sorry for my ignorance of the Android system.

This worked for me, thank you !!
I was having trouble installing UberSocial. I could download and install every other app (smaller and bigger in file size) except for UberSocial.
Tried the Lucky Patcher method and worked like a charm.
BTW, I should mention I have a rooted S3 but found this thread via Google .
The Jelly bean rom takes up a lot internal memory, plus it installs most of the apps from the market to the internal memory instead of SD card. I don't why, maybe the devs can answer this. I had to remove the xbmc app (97mb) in order to install anything else.
Hit the thanks button if it helps. It's my motivator to be more helpful.
I use Titanium to move all data apps to SD, I also use History Eraser before updating apps so that at all times I have over 110MB free on internal mem.

Out of Space Error

Hi. I have a 16GB Galaxy S3 with a 16GB Micro SD Card. I had about 1.3GB of storage left on my device when I started to get this "out of space" error. I thought this was stupid as that's still a lot of storage. I deleted some apps, as suggested. I got up to about 1.7GB and it was still giving me the error. I decided to delete NOVA 3, which brought my free space to 3.5GB. For some reason, I'm *still* getting this error. I looked at other solutions, and I thought it would be good to get directory bind to free up some space on the internal memory. The thing is, I still can't install the app that will help get rid of this error because of this error. Pretty dumb. The apk is on my saved on the device and I can get to it via any file manager. Whenever I get the error, it prompts me to delete some more apps (even though 3.5GB is a ton of free space). Please help. Thanks!
Boot into recovery and wipe dalvik cache. Or go into /data/app and see if there is a odex file of the name of the app you are trying to install. If there is then delete it.
I have tried those solutions before and I just tried them again now, but they don't work.
Maybe the partition where apps install to is full?
How do I check that?

It's time to move pictures, video and downloads to your sd card. It put them in cloud storage or on your pc.

I would copy what you need to PC and reformat/wipe the internal sd, and system and then Immediately reflash rom. As there will be nothing to boot. :cool
I have copied all that I can to the SD card. The only things I have on my internal storage are apps. I don't have any pictures, music, videos, etc. 3.5GB should definitely be enough space to install this small app.
Something is seriously wrong somehow. I just freed another 2.56GB so that I have 6.1GB free. That's more than half of my storage free. I STILL cannot install any app from the play store or from my local storage.
Something is borked, do what prdog said and it will fix you up.

Back everything up that you need and Go into recovery and format/wipe Internal card and wipe/format system and reflash. Would not nand restre cause it will put back whatever is bad. There is no special app partition anymore. Can use as much as you have for apps. For some reason it is being blocked from external sources seeing it.

Back everything up that you need and Go into recovery and format/wipe Internal card and wipe/format system and reflash. Would not nand restre cause it will put back whatever is bad. So I could still use TB? How would I re-flash after I wipe the internal card and system? I am currently unlocked, rooted, and running the stock android touchwiz rom. I'm on android 4.1.1. Would I have to re-root and unlock, re-root, or neither after I re-flash? Sorry that I'm asking you questions that are pretty easy. I'm just a relative novice and I don't want to mess my phone up. Thanks!
Could anyone help me with those questions? Thanks.
Could someone explain a bit more thoroughly? Thanks.
It would be much appreciated if someone could describe those steps a bit more clearly.

[Q] Can't move apps with Link2SD

I have tried to move apps to sdcard with Link2SD and other similar apps. It fails and says that I can't move them because my device has a primary external storage which is emulated from the internal storage.
Here is a screenshot of the message
Howdy!
as far as I have found out (and been following this problem on and off since I got my plus a few months ago) there is no proper way to move apps to your SD card. Best solution (and the one I am using) is to partition your SD Card then use Link2SD to link apps on your SD. You can set it up to do so automatically for every new app you install. As for partitioning I found this guide the best since I'd never attempted it before but it works really well.

Good luck and hope this helps a little!
Thanks a lot

Do we need to root phone for that?
If yes then what's the point of making partitions.
Sent from my GT-I9105 using xda app-developers app

Well, my phone was rooted anyway but I think Link2SD needs it. As to why exactly it needs to be partitioned I can only tell you that when my card wasn't partitioned as suggested in the guide I linked then Link2SD wouldn't even offer to link the apps. I am no expert as I pointed out but this was a solution that worked for me. It may well be someone else found something better that doesn't require partitioning. To my knowledge doing things this way requires root AND the partitioned SD card.

Did you try Apps to SD? Ill be rooting very soon and see what happens. If none works then last stop would be to make partition.
Okay I did root my phone successfully. Still cant move apps. Now going to do this partition system. Hope it works !

Yeah, I tried Apps to SD as well but without success. You get exactly the message as the OP said here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=42863865&postcount=2
Same goes for Link2SD however once you partitioned it at least offers you to link the apps. But like I said that only happened after I did the partitioning. Beforehand it would not even offer that.
I am not entirely sure what or why Samsung did what they did in kinda blocking the moving of apps to an external card but it it really blows considering that you only get a somewhat limited amount of storage to begin with.

Hello again brother. Same here. Before partitioning there was not any option to create link even.
I did the partitioning stuff did work. I can successfully transfer my apps into the ext2 partition i created. (Btw which partition format did you go with?)
How ever I believe folder mount is still a better option as it does not require you to create partitions and works directly such as you enter a brand new card without partition and move apps into card and then it links it. But the only drawback is you need to purchase the app :

I used ext4 for my partition. And I hadn't heard of Folder Mount until you mentioned it. Will have to check it out. Can you actually move stuff if you use that?

Well ext4 didn't work for me idky though ext2 did and it worked. But creating partitions is pure junk and it would reduce the life and speed of your card (its something i believe) so I deleted the partitions and brought my card into original format.
And yes man Folder Mount is something we need ! It does exactly what both of us want. Simply move all the app data from internal memory to external memory and as soon as you move you have empty space on your internal storage and external storage is occupied. Its simple and very clear and easy to use. Just 3 clicks i believe and its done. And another good stuff is it will show you how much an app is occupying internal space and then moves it into SD card and also doesn't show important system apps to move as moving them creates problem.
There's a free version to try which would allow you to move 3 apps only and if you want more then buy the app for 2 Dollars.
Its developed by @madmack. Do check it out. The sad part for me is I dont have a credit card nor Paypal is available in my country
And i need this app badly !
