Needing some advice... Currently have a Note 2 and love it but its not very easy to be very active with. Just slightly too big and costs too much for me to want to risk it coming out of my back pocket at 25mph (cycling) or out of a front pocket while running. Yes I realize I could just get something that more or less straps it to me but I don't really want another thing to wear.
So priorities... Small(3.5-4inch screen and as thin as possible), gps, gsm 2g,3g,and prefer lte but not required, and able to sustain screen on time of at least 3hrs while using gps and data at the same time. If thats getting to the edge of the expected battery life then changeable batteries is a must. I would prefer to stay in the range of 200-300usd.... Lastly must use microsim... and if possible a million dollars too.
I am pretty new to android so unfamiliar with what is a decent older handset that would fit my needs.

So you must use microSim...meeh...that's a problem...really...
Apart from the microSim must....samsung galaxy S3 seems great....battery life is good...has 2G, 3G....i think no LTE...but the price is not great either....
Another great device is the Nexus....but then you would have gone too far from the awesome Note 2
The goal with using the microsim is so I don't have to get a new sim card and mess up my unlimited data plan with att. I would just swap sims.
I asked before I realized the microsim is pretty new so as of now it looks like I am limited to a new phone or in the older and slightly cheaper is the s3. There are other newer used phone but saving 75 vs buying new just isn't worth the gamble for me....
So the hunt continues... Current candidates are the s3,nexus 4,s3 mini, and possibly the Samsung rugby pro.
I hate to spend so much money on any of them but it might just be what it is... I saw on amazon the s3 mini for 279$ no contract.. Which would work.

I'd recommend you using Xperia Go. FullProof: Water, Scratch & Impact proof phone. But Non-Removable Battery...
http://www.gsmarena.com/sony_xperia_go-4782.php
Samsung Rugby Pro (AT&T). Does all standard frequencies, plus both T-Mobile and AT&T LTE. Rugged as well. Snapdragon S4 Dual-Core, removable battery, 5 MP camera, etc. It's basically a smaller, rugged, Galaxy S3.

I like it. Will have to figure out if I can use a microsd to mini sd adapter. Totally forgot about those when looking at my phone options.

Considering the rugby pro too. A big factor in this purchase will be the cost of the phone... I will use it roughly 3hrs 4x a week and it literally goes in a pocket and transmits my location and accepts calls... So doesn't have to be a powerhouse or even a good screen. Just kind of small and good battery life really....

After some thought I decided I am for sure getting one of the new phones this year so I am throwing my Note 2 into the elements. I figure the odds of me breaking it are not too great and if it happens I'll just fall back to a blackberry I have laying around for a couple months while waiting on a new phone to be released. Thanks for the good phone options I was not aware of... Opened my eyes to some decent older phones if I find myself absolutely needing a beater phone.

Hi everyone,
I'm a longtime lurker in these forums, and I'd love some advice on phone options.
I'm a Verizon Wireless customer, and for some specific reasons, have to stay that way.
My current phone is a Droid 2 Global. It's my first Android device. Previously, I had Windows Mobile, for phones and PDAs, dating all the way back to when it was called Windows CE.
I'm happy-ish with Android, and plan on staying with Android for now, but it's time to upgrade, and I'd like to do it while I can still stay on my grandfathered unlimited data plan (so anytime between now and the next 3-4 months).
I'd like to get a phone I'll be happy with for the next 2 years, so I'd like to have some future-facing features, like high resolution and NFC, in addition to enough RAM to run today's software and tomorrow's.
My current phone, the D2G, running the stock rom and the .629 update, is slow like a turtle moving through molasses. It once wasn't this way, and it's not overloaded with apps, but it's a situation I'd like to avoid in the future.
So, in my next phone, I'm looking for the following, and I can't seem to find a phone that has all of these features:
-removable, easily replaceable battery (so I can carry around more than one)
-global (GSM/HSPA) capability
-physical keyboard
-1 GB RAM or more
-dual core processor (or better)
-4G LTE
-ICS + moderately decent upgrade schedule for future releases
-NFC
-1280x720 screen
No phone matches all of these. The three phones that come closest are:
1. HTC Rezound: no physical keyboard or NFC
2. Samsung Galaxy Nexus: no physical keyboard or global capability
3. Droid 4: non-removable battery, no NFC, no 1280x720 screen
I travel internationally a couple of times a year, but not more frequently, so I suppose that I could just keep my current phone (the D2G, which is SIM-unlocked) for world-roaming purposes, and use it when I travel.
I've had a physical keyboard for a long time - my last 5 phones have had one, and I type much faster on it. I could give it up, but don't really want to.
I feel like NFC is a serious want-to-have, not for today, but for 12 months from now, when it'll be convenient and more common.
I want the higher resolution 1280x720 screen. I don't HAVE to have it, but when buying a phone for 2 years, it seems like it'd be foolish not to get it.
The other thing that tempts me is that it seems like we have phones with quad-core processors just around the corner - is it worth waiting a few more months to get one? My single core D2G was the fastest phone out there when I got it about two years ago, and now it's one of the absolute slowest - does it make sense to go dual core when quad cores are here?
---
Anyway, that's what I am thinking about. Can anyone provide some guidance?
Should I just bite the bullet and get the Galaxy Nexus, and travel globally with my slow-as-molasses D2G? Or should I saddle up with the Droid 4 and its sad screen, forget about replacing the battery, and live near a charger at all times? Or maybe just wait until something cooler comes out from around the corner?
Anyone?
Bueller? Bueller?
Wait a couple weeks for the S3 and either use your D2G for global use, or buy an incredible 2 or Droid 3 for global use on the cheap. Physical keyboard is worthless now, as screen sizes coupled with amazing auto correct software make touchscreen keyboards a breeze and an obvious choice.

Would you take the SIII over the Galaxy Nexus?
Are the non-Nexus Samsungs much harder to root?
I honestly love the Nexus. It's sexy and snappy. I bought one for my wife. I don't think the SIII will be harder to root than the Nexus. Your call really. The SIII will be newer and the "it" phone for a while, but the Nexus is still very capable and is gonna be way cheaper right now. You can probably get a Nexus for about $100 on contract as long as you avoid corporate Verizon stores. They will rape you on price and give you **** service. Check Costco or Best Buy in your area. They'll be cheaper on both devices than a Verizon store.

one thing I would say about the resolution is that its a bit of a marketing ploy.
once you start getting above WVGA resolutions unless you perch the device on your nose its quite hard to tell the difference.
Whats more important is actually the screen tech, I can promise you that a decent panel at a lower res will look a lot better than a cheap or average panel with a high res.
Will time make a difference? nope, not unless you become very short sighted and actually have the device on the end of your nose
To be honest id agree with you on the NFC thing, if your set on keeping it for a few years it would be worth it, but that's a relatively newish tech hitting the markets, might be worth holding back a few months until Q3 12 to see whats in the pipe line. A lot more NFC devices will be coming out, one of them is bound to tick more of your boxes....
just a thought.
Nexus is always a good bet...
Coming from Sprint, I don't really know about Verizon's phones..
However,
Physical Keyboards are a dying breed. Most of these phones will be bulky and have bigger batteries or shorter battery life.
Currently typing this on my Galaxy Nexus, I highly recommended this phone.
Yes, there are only soft buttons (sans the power and volume), but its definitely future tech.
Amazing resolution (the screen has mfc defects, but they're often overlooked)
LTE, HSPA, GSM
And I do believe it has a place for your SIM card (Sprint doesn't use sim cards, so I'm not sure)
The phones extremely thin, light battery, and has a nice feeling curved glass and battery cover.
Great battery life once you unlock it and flash a battery mod.
No complaints here

http://www.cnet.com/8301-17918_1-57505476-85/leaked-htc-phone-could-flaunt-1080p-hd-display/
A new HTC smartphone has been revealed via GLBenchmark, a well-known site for device benchmarking.
The mystery device appears to be headed to Verizon to connect with the carrier's 4G LTE network.
More importantly, it packs a full-HD 1080p display and a new quad-core Snapdragon CPU capable of speeds that have never been achieved by the existing S4.
What is the DLX?
According to the GLBenchmark report, the new HTC phone could carry the code name "DLX."
Based on its model number HTC6435, though, it's likely to be a successor to the Verizon HTC Rezound model number HTC6425.
The Rezound was one of the first HTC smartphones with an HD display, so a follow-up with a full 1080p screen would be appropriate.
In fact, the HTC DLX (if that is its name) is equipped with a 1794x1080 display that - even if it includes space for on-screen buttons like other Android devices - could prove dazzling.
Besides the impressive screen resolution, the HTC DLX is powered by a quad core Snapdragon S4 MSM8960 chip with an Adreno 320 GPU, clocking in at 1.5 GHz, but this doesn't appear to be the standard S4 present in many other smartphones.
One source speculates that the new HTC Verizon phone could even be equipped with the new S4 MSM8960T chip due to the considerable power it displayed in Benchmark tests.
In the Egypt off-screen and pro off-screen tests, it scored well over 100 (121.1 and 110.5 FPS respectively), numbers that other phones can't come close to.
The new HTC DLX for Verizon and possible Rezound successor runs Android 4.0.4, according to the benchmark reports, and along with the gorgeous screen and impressive quad-core processor, those are all the known details.
Watch out for more updates on the mystery HTC Verizon phone as the companies prepare to reveal whatever it is.

Im always getting the newest phone. I love the s3, but im one of those "got to have the newest phone" guys. I find that its much easier to keep on top of the current tech if you are constantly switching out devices, of you wait a year, or 2 years, your device is worth nothing, and upgrading is expensive. I almost always make money when changing phones out.. so. ya.
anyway,
you are saying that article is about the galaxy s4? not the HTC?
nm, google is my friend.
Ironically, I'm kinda with you on that one. I usually have about a 3-6 month turn around on my phones. I don't mind having middle of the line or bottom of the line, but having SECOND frome top just makes me want the one on top that much more.
If that bootloader gets unlocked and the battery doesn't suck... I'll bite. This gs3 was a penny for me.

Really? HTC phones have always seemed much more solid devices to me. The s3 is plastic thin and cheap feeling. (it doesn't look cheap, just feels like it) the rezound feels like a solid chunk of phone.

Yeah, it's a chunk of phone. As in, a brick. With a creaky plastic battery door, godawful flush buttons, dismal battery life, and a terrible update track record. Nice screen and camera though. I've owned 4 HTC phones (HTC Touch, Eris, Thunderbolt, Rezound) and they've all had certain advantages, and they've all had such enormous problems that I'm just not interested anymore--HTC is off the trusted list until they get their sh*t together with updates and kernel sources. And Sense just straight-up sucks. I don't love Touchwiz either, but at least it's footprint isn't so heavy.

Ya, there seem to be people on both sides. much like ford vs chevy. I personally think the build quality of HTC is incredible, i love the flush buttons, the red glow, seemed like a very fine and quality slab of technology. I think sense is amazing, sense 4.5 is incredible. The radios on HTC phones are top notch, my wife still has her rezound and she always has 4g where I don't. Our house has very poor 4g service, my s3 cannot hold a data connection at all. We use our phones to tether our laptops (we dont pay for cable.. ) and after switching from the rezound to the s3, I can no longer tether reliably. When its getting its 1 bar of 4g, it works fine, but after a few min it drops to 3g or 1x or nothing at all, I spend more time fiddling with airplane mode to try and get 4g back then I do getting any work done. So I have had to use her phones wifi tether to get anything important done.
The GPS on the s3 works kinda. We were in San Francisco a few weeks ago, I have a mount on my dash that holds my phone (not a dock, just an adjustable mount) and my phone is always in it for navigation. We had to swap phones because the s3 kept dropping the gps lock, and telling me to turn on streets that were either not near me, or in the wrong direction because the phone though I was pointing a differnt direction than I was, or that I was not moving when I was. Put her rezound in there and it worked flawlessly, even on the lower deck of the bay bridge.
Don't get me wrong, I think the s3 is a great device, (which is why I own one) But I also switch phones A LOT. I have had almost every flagship device on VZW. My experience overall with quality and reliability have always been HTC, where I think samsung always wins in the sexiness department.
At the end of the day, I jsut want my phone to work when I need it to work, being in a big city and needing to get from point A to point B, and having your 600 dollar device fail to provide that basic functionality in a reliable manner is something I have come to expect from Samsung.
I have had the all of the major Samsung devices on VZW, and all of the HTC phones. My opinion is based on using those phones every day while I had them.. just this last year alone (since sep last year) I have had the incredible 2, droid charge, rezound, nexus, and s3, and soon the new HTC.. I am the only one I know who gets a new phone ever 2 months or so
Isn't that artical quite a bit old? If we haven't seen anything more current about it i doubt its real. Either way there is no way i could afford to upgrade again.

I prefer samsung and I'm so happy with the SIII, most probably i'll just wait till the S IV is out
True story, but it was two of my lines that both had rezounds. I bought them both back in November and had nonstop issues out the gate. Eventually I was able to convince Verizon to upgrade me to the gs3 though.

Ive always been a huge fan of Motorola phones. I got a Fascinate for my mom, but kept it till my Droid X came in. Samsung impressed me back then. I took a leap of faith on the S3 and I'm loving every minute of it. But with HTCs piss poor track record *ahem Thunderbolt, Rezound* pre-ordering that would be like jumping off a cliff. I'm still waiting for Moto's next big thing, but as good as the S3 has been... I might give the Moto to mommy
I know that you guys probably see dozens of these kinds of threads from confused geeks like me who just can't make up their minds, but I'm really stuck here. I've been up for hours reading about all of the handsets on the market right now and I just can't settle on one option that I like the best for my situation. I'm hoping that some of the more experienced users can help me out on this.
For context, I've been using an HTC Desire for the past two years no problem. I love the phone, but it is showing it's age and the internal memory is an issue. So I would like to get a new one, that can last me at the very least two more years. My budget is around 600 dollars.
I live in Canada, so the situation with carriers is pretty bad. I'm currently on Telus (HSPA+) and would prefer to own my phone so that I can bypass this whole contract crap and negotiate better prices for my monthly bills.
Anyways, boiled down, this is what I'm looking for:
Compatible with Telus HSPA+ Network (Rogers is a plus)
Either a MicroSD slot or 32+ onboard storage
At least 24 hours of battery life on a single charge
Decent performance, don't really play games but would like a lag free interface
Healthy hacking community
Good build quality and durability. It should be able to take a fall
Flash camera. Camera quality is a negligible factor but I use the flashlight every day.
Out of all of the devices I've seen thus far, I'm leaning most towards the OneX+. But I've also looked at the Galaxy Nexus and liked it as well. There is also the SGS3 but I think that phone is really ugly and don't really like it. Choices... choices... can I hear a voice of reason here?
What do you think about a Motorola Atrix 4G. It have a dual-core CPU (1Ghz), 16Go of internal memory + MicroSD slot up to 32Go. HSPA+ compatible, a great assembly quality with Kevlar. A high-capacity battery (more than one day of autonomy). A good healthed developers community.
I think it's the best phone for your requirements. It's not the all brand new smartphone, but you'll keep it for a longtime if you take care of it

PS: I forgot to say it have two very powerful LEDs flash (more powerful than Galaxy S2 flash)

I hadn't though of that one actually. From the looks of it, everything that I want is there. However, from the development pages, it looks like Motorola is being quite active in suppressing the hacking community, especially by not providing them graphics drivers which leads to numerous bugs in ICS and JB. That might be a deal breaker for me unless an Atrix4G owner can weigh in and clear my suspicions.
Note 2 if that isn't too big for u! Idk y u don't like s3 but 20million + people who bought it can't go wrong! and u oughtta sacrifice somethin to gain somethin! Just sayin. Ur wish! And BTW one x + is great. Isn't nexus4 there? Cuz nexus is already too old!
Ps - and don't ever think of buying moto. I myself own an atrix2. They r too unresponsive / ignorant about their customers. Worst OEM ever. And they have everything locked down (bootloader), so not really much of development!

The Note2 is far to big for my tiny hands, haha. The reason I don't like the S3 is because of the garish chamfered edges and the design that basically screams "no we aren't copying apple" while not offering any real inspired design. It's just too unrelentingly samsung. While Moto might be the worst OEM, I think samsung is pretty close.
Nexus 4 is out of the question because of it's pathetic amount of internal storage and no MicroSD slot. Also it is basically a glass enclosed phone so it won't have the durability of something like the one x+.
Honestly, I think I am going to go with the One X+ because it seems that it has the best internal battery, great specs, though I will probably hobble it a bit for extra battery life with a more efficient kernel. Also it seems that it could survive re-entry into the atmosphere with that fused ceramic/metal enclosure.
Then again... I might just go with the S3. I mean it is butt ugly but it has everything that I want in a phone. MicroSD, removable battery, nice screen, hacking community... damn. It's really not making it easy on my that the phone costs 150 dollars less than the OneX+. Plus the button is on the side as opposed to the top, which is nice.

It is slow, unreliable, the touchscreen is inaccurate, the gps is not reliable, the battery life is awful, and sometimes it just freezes for no apparent reason.
That being said, I don't think I should pick my next phone by myself and I would like a little help. My main use is texting, getting bus schedules, and occasional phone calls or internet usage. I just need something reliable that will get me information without freezing and has a battery that lasts a full day.
My budget is about $200, hopefully less. The phone needs to work with Simple/T mobile (1700 band). I would prefer something fairly standard size (3.7"-4" ish).
I'm not in a great hurry, so if anyone can recommend a few models to watch I can wait for a decent deal. I also don't need the latest software, but android 4.0 at least would be appreciated.

I would say get the nexus 4 or 5. Save a bit more. Otherwise the sony xperia lineup are pretty affordable as well. And nice design

According to me you should go with Nokia Lumia 720. Nice mobile phone with best features.

PLS any one suggest hd android phone under 15000/-
I heard Micro MAx Canvas HD has Issuses????
If you don't absolutely need the phone now and your upgrades will come up soon, I'd try to wait until a sale. For the S3 last year it was 399 and then in November they had it down to 100. I got my g2 3 years ago for free waiting for a deal. Look for back to school sales and black Friday sales if you can wait that long. That's 2 to 3 months and will be here before you know it.
If you can't and don't have an update, nexus 4 unless you need an sd card (why I didn't get it). If you have an update and can't wait, just spend the extra 100-200 for the best phone as while it seems like a lot, over 24 months it's 4 to 8 a month. Would you buy one less foofy coffee or beer out a month to have a much better phone that you use every day and you won't be in the same situation in 6 months? I know I would.
Also, buy a popular phone so you're guaranteed development support a year in. I learned that with the galaxy tab 8.9. No development on it but 10.1 is still supported by cm. Got the s3 bc with 30 million units sold when I bought it, IT WILL BE SUPPORTED FOR AWHILE!

Acer Liquid E1
If you search a lowbudget midrange smartphone you may want to take a look at the Acer Liquid series.
I have the E1 and it may be a low-activity device, there is a custom rom made by Brick3ed that improves almost every vital part
of the OS.
The screen is quite big (4.5") and Acer uses a IPS panel, and that just works out fine for me. It has one gig ram, dual core cpu and runs on android 4.1.1
I suggest you watch some videos on youtube
Sony Xperia P
Thanks for the suggestions so far everyone. Careful though. Simple Mobile operates on the 1700 band. A lot of the seggested phones don't work on that band.
If the N5 doesn't live up to your expectations which phone would you prefer instead even if cost were not a factor?
Is there another carrier flagship phone that you are satisfied would be flexible enough for you to be able to do all of the following?
root, rom;
restore to stock rom if necessary;
return to store after restoring stock rom;
upgrade via carrier upgrade plan after restoring stock rom?
make a potential carrier warranty claim after restoring stock rom?
If the Nexus 5 doesn't list up to my expectations, I will go back to my Galaxy Nexus. It may not be the most state of the art device but with CM ROM's and faux123's kernels, I can't go wrong with it.

That's actually the phone I own also but I've got it pretty heavily loaded over the last 2 years. I really think I need at least another gig of ram to run well and a faster processor wouldn't hurt. The non-removable 2300 battery on the N5 is just a real disappointment. I've only owned nexus devices so far and I'm a bit concerned that a carrier flagship may not be flexible enough.

A non-removable battery might be a deal breaker for me. I like to be able to just swap batteries if needed. I sure hope it doesn't end up with a non-removable battery. I am not a fan of LG stuff in the first place and I avoided the Nexus 4 for various issues. With T-Mobile not announcing another Sidekick anytime soon, I need to upgrade. I don't like the physical home buttons on phones so that has kept me away from the S4 and other phones. My original Galaxy Nexus actually got damaged due to heavy rain I got caught in and I couldn't get another from my carrier. I ended up getting an S4 to trade my mother for her Galaxy Nexus.
To be honest, nothing beats the Nexus experience to me, and I can't even think of other choices with what I have experienced. When I think of a Nexus Phone I don't really give a huge deal for the hardware internals, because it's not really meant to be a show off with the latest hardware and the largest battery. Samsung soon will hit a 1000 cpu cores into their Exynos bully maybe, and yet their Touchwiz phone LAG and stutter. A properly minimally optimized OS over a good deal of hardware is what Google brings, not to forget the minimal design of the phone, and oh for a damn good price - I wouldn't ask for more.

I played with the LG G2 for over an hour, and decided it was too Samsung 'cheapie' plastic to suit me. The HTC One Max would be my next phone, despite an S600 chipset, based on durability and useability, and those speakers would come in quite handy at times.
prob moto x
If the Nexus is a no-go on Verizon I'll likely wait until the Moto Maker site goes live for VZW and at least get 32 gigs of internal storage. Feels really good in the hand and super smooth

+1 - love just been able to swap a fully charged battery. Extremely convenient... though from the leaks it looks very unlikely. Though I'm quite over my S4 atm and wanna try something different - the N5 looks like it could be a good choice.

That it does. That's why I have been looking forward to it. The camera sticking out a bit also bugs me about the phone also. These two things are bugging me very much. With the time I get out of my Galaxy Nuxus battery on normal use, it might be fine for me for normal daily use. If I need to go out of town though, camping, or some where I just can't get to a charger, I'll have to hold on to my Galaxy Nexus to make sure I've got something I can stretch out for a couple of days.
The wireless recharging for the Nexus 5 is something that really caught my attention as a good thing. Being able to just sit my phone down on my desk when I get in and have it charge is awesome! The screen also looks very nice for slightly under 5 inches. Hopefully the announcement and launch kicks off today.
Who buys carrier branded crap phones with their ugly logos ... Nothing can beat a Nexus in Android world.

yeah me too about the battery thing. I like to have a removable batt so I can buy an extra and swap it if my other one drains. But I think powerbanks are also helpful for non-removable batteries as well. #confusing hahaha
The Nexus has always been a developer only phone. But as it is for the camera that megapixels don't matter, so it is for the battery that the mAh won't matter. We have previously seen that the phones with an extra large capacity battery yet not perform as per the expectations. Atleast Google doesn't stuff their phones with bloatware like Samsung. A Nexus always comes with a minimal OS coupled with a balanced hardware at an unrivalled price. A non-removable battery & no expandable memory have always been the let downs, yet 32GB is enough for me for storage & a battery lasting just over a day is well enough for me. Nexus ftw !

I'm currently on an OG Note, recently bought a new battery and I have little problems with it. I'm mainly bored with it now and the USB port has some problems (€10 to fix). Minor issues and I'm sure I could use the phone for another year without ever really being bothered by it. I don't play games, so I don't really need all that raw power the new devices have. I have been looking for a new device for some time, just to have a new gadget and all.
I work for HTC indirectly so I have a One lying around here that I can use, but I can't root it so I have no use for it. I can't get used to the new Sense and their strange softkey layout (though that's more the fault of developers that don't keep to the design guidelines of Android, than it is HTC's).
I also had the S4, which I liked overall, but I found it too expensive, it had useless functions which I didn't want to pay for. Especially since you lose a lot of them when you put a stock rom on it. It has an AMOLED screen which, after two years of the Note, I'm not very happy about (uniform colours are a pain, and it degrades too fast). And it looks just like any other Samsung device (and I'm bored now). - I did get hooked on the infrared functionality though. I miss that every day.
Then the Z1 came along, looked refreshing and the waterproof stuff is a giant pro. Useless camera, but the rest was pretty good. Unfortunately the screen dissapoints.
So now I'm waiting for the Nexus 5. Absolutely no useless functions. Just a good and powerfull device that can last for another two years. No screwing around with roms and stuff and a good price.
If it dissapoints, I might go for an S4 as they're now in the pricerange of the Nexus 5 or I'll stick to the Note for another year, to see if something better comes up.
If not the Nexus 5, I'd go for the Oppo N1.
With out of the box CyanogenMod, IPS 5.9 inch display, and top-notch camera optics and dual user-controllable flash.
I have (had) the S4 and sold it today. I was extremely dissapointed with it in just about every way, and with the addition of Knox locked bootloaders being sneaked in by Samdung, that iced the "sell it now" cake for me.
I'm actually back to using the SIII in the meantime, and even with piss-poor driver support, it runs CM very well.
my choise is between Nexus 4 or Nexus 5

Actually, as far as the hardware goes, I am quite impressed with g2. That display seems so much larger than other phones of the same physical dimensions. Battery, processor, storage, etc. no limitations except no wireless charging. (except verizon version)
A play edition would be very tempting. Unfortunately it doesn't seem likely with the N5 being a somewhat close cousin. If the N5 had the exact same g2 hardware it would be a no-brainer for me even at a much higher cost.
