Good afternoon folks,
Here's my situation: I have Verizon in America, really good service where I'm at. I just upgraded to the new Galaxy Samsung Note 10.1 (i9250). I checked updates and everything, it's fully up to date. I rooted it with the framroot method (just download the app and ran it and it's rooted). My issue is that I want phone and texting services for this device, but it's not even enabled. When I downloaded a dialer to be able to make calls with, it told me that the telephony service wasn't enabled. Upon further research I realized it didn't have any GSM functionality. I keep seeing everywhere when I do a search for my type and everything, I keep coming up with the google nexus (which IS a cell phone) for i9250, but that's not what I need and I'm afraid that information won't do me any good except for hurting my device.
I am very weary about the idea of flashing my rom. I don't want to totally screw up my device. Does anyone know how to do this without going all kinds of freaky on the tablet? And if I do have to get down and dirty and that's the ONLY way to make this work...what's the safest way to do it?

I'm thinking of picking up the galaxy s, the samsung vibrant from t-mobile to use on my carrier.
i had a few questions and hope you fellas can help me out.
1st, what would be involved in unlocking it? Would I have any problems getting it unlocked?
Also i'm a total noob to android but i've been reading up. What exactly is "rooting"? will rooting allow me to put a stock 2.2 on it? is that even possible and is it recomended on this phone?
and lastly from people who have been using this phone, do you recommend getting it?

Rooting allows you to get access to parts of the phone you otherwise wouldn't have access to. Compare it to having administrator rights on windows, you can access more files, do more stuff. Programs can perform more actions when your phone is rooted.
Putting 2.2 on it is completely seperate from that and at this moment is not possible. However, Samsung already stated that the first 2.2 update will be somewhere in august (not for euro/usa regions though) so perhaps withing the month after that it will also be available for other regions. Samsung has officially announced that it WILL be updated though, so no need to worry about that.
Without the 2.2 update it's already pretty damn fast though (with some tweaks its faster then the Nexus one WITH 2.2) so I would certainly already recommend it.
This is my first android phone (after symbian, windows mobile and more) and it's really easy to get used to and works just great. The screen is beautiful (good colors, vibrant although reading text on it is a less great experience) and it's very fast. Also feels light, in a good way, great screen, etc. I can totally recommend it.
ps. No idea what the status on unlocking is, mine was unlocked already so never looked into it.
you might want to make sure the frequency bands of the one you acquire will work on the carrier you want to use it on
if not, it may not work at all, or may not give you 3G data svc
personally i didnt think any phones are locked down anymore, at least not in the UK?
you should buy the phone, its the best ive owned, not saying its the best on the market but id like to hear of an arguement for why it isnt.
rooting was done on this device even before release, and with already 300k sales in south korea alone it looks like its going to have some great support and updates in the future

I was just wondering how they (USCC) know if I root my phone or not?
It's almost like they beg us to void the warranty by not giving any updates or accurate release info....could that be apart of the big plan? Lure us into this excellent online community...(which quite possibly could be an average idiots downfall)?
Couldn't I just load up the stock everything, and they would never know?

Depending on what you do they can't. If you have Froyo then obviously you have loaded unofficial software and they could see that. Otherwise I am not sure what you mean by load up on stock everything. If you did that on Eclair then I am not sure why you would want to root to begin with.
all you have to do, no matter what you flash to, is use Odin and you can go back to stock 2.1. even if you where using the fryoy leak with custom boot animations and all kinds of other mods...as long as you can boot in download mode you can go backto the way this phone was right out of the box
As of now this is only possible for mesmerize users, showcase has no 2.1 odin.

Actually, I doubt USCC even checks. When you take your phone if for warranty, they just send it to the manufacturer and if the manufacturer (samsung) says that it's not warranty worthy then it isn't. At least that's how it worked for my TouchPro.. But all root does is add some files to the system. If you remove those two files it's like your phone was never rooted.
If you only rooted & it's stock firmware, hit the menu key while you're on the home screen then hit settings>factory data reset (THIS DOES NOT TOUCH DATA ON YOUR SD CARD). No way for them to know then. Make sure you have all your data backed up onto your SD card before doing this.
I've actually taken my phone in to the USCC shop a couple of times, the store manager thinks mine is so much better than his because of the theme and density and stuff. He asked me how it was so fast and I told him it was a secret

they CAN see if you are rooted and you can take that to the bank. but because of a certain thing called the Bill of Rights they can not do anything with the information.
ya know when you download apps and it warns you about how it can collect data?
well every single carrier in the world CAN see EXACTLY what you have on your phone with regards to Firmware and Kernel.... that is a 100% guarentee. i know for a fact they can.
it is the EXACT same way that the network knows if your phone needs an update.
it pings your phone and requests firmware information. if its old it tells you there is an update, if not, it doesnt.
on my old EVO if you were running a non stock firmware, or even one that was modified you would not be told of updates because the network knows your not on a stock rom. the phone sends the servers information it doesnt recognize in regards to what you are running, or it sends info that the servers have listed as not eligible for upgrades and it denies you the upgrade.
now, JUST rooting, thats a little different. it needs more info than just "what firmware do you have Mr. Phone?"
but i can guarentee you that the phone IS sending data to the carriers about what it is running.
Hi folks-
Sorry for what might be stupid questions but I'm super excited about this phone, and I just want to get it working right so I don't break it like I did my last one. I am trying to get this to work on T-Mobile in the USA.
I flashed my phone to a stock Gingerbread yesterday, and then flashed a stock ICS on top of it. When I started things up within the ICS OS with my sim card in, it started asking me for a network lock control key.
Ultimately, I need this phone to be in an unrooted state for software I have installed through work (it scans for superuser/root, quarantines you if it finds it). Is there any way I can unlock this phone again - through flashing or software - without rooting the phone?
Or, if I go the "root" route, is there any way that will maintain the software that's in the phone - like, without completely flashing a new OS? And if so, can I disable the software from running while the root is on and the unlock is taking place?
I am happy to clarify any questions - I am learning all about this and am thankful I have a Samsung to work with (since Samsung seems to be simpler than all others) - but I have had little to no success with rooting in the past and so would consider myself a complete novice. I've read through the forums and found similar solutions for Galaxy Note/Galaxy SIII but do not know how applicable they are to this beautiful piece of machinery that is the Galaxy R.

But because for so long the bootloader seemed unlockable, and because when they finally did get it unlocked, it was with a device that was almost 200$, there was a complete lack of development on this particular device once it was given the 4.4.2 upgrade. Over the course of a year, I have found many things about the tablet that I have been unable to find out on my own to get into.
I found that the tab 3 lte was actually designed as a really big phone, but the dialer, phone and dialer storage were blocked by AT&T, so even with a sim chip, the tablet just will not function as a phone without getting a VOIP app, and I really shouldnt have to considering that I have a perfectly good phablet capable of actual phone calls. I dont know how to use terminal emulator very well, or if the language changes drastically between versions of Android.
I was also wondering if it was actually possible to unlock the bootloader from Terminal emulator now that I have full root.
Is there a way of finding out if my current stock rom is one of those that have the SO- attached to the system folders so that I cant write anything to the system folders without reverting to out of the box system restore. And lastly, I was wondering if there was ever any custom recovery that was made for this device that would be usable now, considering that when the device came out it was on Jellybean, not kitkat. If anyone could help me I would be greatly appreciative. I know it sounds like a lot of work for a tablet , but I am not exactly overflowing with money to go and buy a new one. This was a gift and I just want to try to avoid bricking it when I just now finally got the damned things rooted.

Hi all,
I have tried searching, but am a bit overwhelmed since I am new to this world. All I really want to do is take my new Sprint Galaxy S8 (bought from someone off craigslist, confirmed it is ready to be activated all clean etc.) and get plain vanilla android on it as if it were a Pixel/Nexus. It does not have to be an Oreo pre-release or anything, just whatever the most current stable build is for, ideally with OTA updates if possible?
So I need basic instructions for rooting it, along with access to whatever the best/simplest ROM is that fits my above description, and how to load that up safely with minimal maintenance (I am not sure if it updates regularly like stock does). Apologies if this is super basic and asked all the time...
I was planning to activate it with sprint after I get it all set up with the root, rom, and my own data... Would this be a problem? Sprint store rep said it should be fine though they are not technically supposed to say that of course, but is it better to activate it first then root/rom it? I'd prefer not to activate it until it is all set up with everything for me if I can
