Can I root my HTC sensation without losing any data? And how to that ?
All i want at the end is to flash a custom Rom so practically I need to unlock boot loader with htcdev the flash recovery and then what? Root ? And flash Rom ?
I am kind of lost :S
And I want to know if the htcdev will erase everything on my phone including sdcard? :d

with htcdev method after unlocking bootloader it will do a factory reset to the device
but your sdcard will be untouched
if you follow the S-OFF procedure first you must backup all your contents in your sdcard because during the procedure(in the moment of the wire trick) it will erase everything in your sdcard

Today , i successfully rooted my HTC Sensation 4G, everything was working totally fine, but then I wanted to install and custom ROM , called Super Villain Shensation.
I followed everything like the instructions told me to, but it says that the installation was aborted. and when i want to reboot my phone, it just stays on the white HTC logo screen, and doesnt do anything. I am able to get to the bootloader, but when i try recovery the same thing happens. what do i do !?
First of all, it is not bricked. Moving forward you need to re-download the ROM to make sure it is not a corrupted download, then try to flash again.
In order it would be:
-re download ROM again (I would personally suggest a ginger bread ROM that doesn't require you to flash firmware and such)
-download super wipe
-put them both in your sd card, somewhere where you could find the files
-go into your recovery and flash the super wipe zip (found in the Android Revolution thread)
-flash ROM
-let it boot (it will take about 5 minutes)
-done

Need tothrow the pg85.img zip on the root of you're sd card then boot into bootloader. Follow on screen instructions.

Go to your bootloader like previous poster said and paste this file in the root of your sd card.
-Press the up volume rocker once you get the prompt to do it
If everything goes the way is suppose to go, you will be able to get into recovery again and flash whatever ROM you like.

What is you hboot if it's 1.18 or below and since you're r now s-on you need to run an ruu for ics that is closes to you stock rom. To upgrade your firmware to an ics compatible firmware. If it's 1.2x then you can htc-dev unlock and if you want s-off use jb then flash 4ext recovery even if your just htc-dev unlock. If your just htc-dev unlocked in 4ext enable smart flash. Now your good to go!

Hi
I have a sensation xe. I rooted it before upgrading it to ICS (before is GB).
I upgraded it by flashing official ics rom due to I previously installed clockworkmod recovery which stop me from normal way of upgrade.
After upgrade everything's fine, but superuser and clockworkmod gone.
When I install superuser it says binary not found. but I checked my bootloader it says S-OFF.
What should I do?
Android - 4.0.3
Software number - 3.32.401.105
Hboot - 1.27.0000
Radio - 11.22.3504.07_M
Nevermind.
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G with Beats Audio using xda premium
I don't know what is that, I think not.
I flashed it using RUU_PYRAMID_LE_ICS_35_S_HTC_Europe_3.32.401.105_R_Radio_11.69.3504.00U_11.22.3504.07_M_release_251961_signed.exe
If you find it locked you have to unlock first with htcdev.com but many user won't recommend it but at this time I think it the only way to unlock the bootloader, install the custom recovery(CWM) and install the superuser(root the phone).
You can get the details on this post.
But I already have it rooted before upgrade. I thought it will remain rooted? coz my bootloader shown S-OFF
OK, you have S-off. I guess you should be able to flash Revolutionary firmware from Boot loader, then use fast boot to flash the recovery, then flash root from the recovery you installed earlier and voila.

Or, flash a firmware that contains recovery and then flash super user (just make sure its the correct firmware.) (I don't remember exactly where I seen this firmware, but I'm sure I have. Maybe here or somewhere else)

If you are S-Off you can root it again (because you flashed a RUU you lost root)
1) need to have a custom recovery (CWN or 4EXT). There is a nice tool to instal 4ext recovery HERE or download this PG58IMG. Just put it in your sd card and flash it from bootloader.
2) Then Download and install from custom recovery the Superuser-3.0.7-efghi-signed.zip
Done!

Correct. By revolutionary you install CWM and then you can switch to 4ext. same as I did but in his case he doesn't need to use Revolutionary because already unlocked and s-Offed (and also because Revolutionary doesn't support Hboot 1.27). He needs just to install a custom recovery by a PG58IMG and superuser to get root again.

The only error is that the file doesn't exist for S On & *locked* users, although I can't confirm if this because this is true I've only heard about this from a couple of users.
The rest of the tool is bug free.
If you want to install a custom ROM then you will have to do either one of the following:
Use HTC Dev Unlock & Stay S On.
S Off without voiding your warranty. and then continue with this tutorial from step 1
Now, for the second method, you can also use my tool.
And frankly, because you are starting from scratch, the tool will make everything easy. Here's the options that you need to select:
First, S Off.
then Install 4EXT Recovery
then Install Firmware
then download your ROM & Install by selecting install ZIP from recovery.

I was in your state as well. I was trying to see wait whether Revolutionary.io would produce a newer version for the HBOOT 1.27. But I got tired of waiting and just went on to use other methods. In the beginning, it's a bit confusing. It took me a while to understand everything. But once you follow the steps, everything should become more simple.
A problem that I encounter was install 4EXT Recovery. I couldn't install it at first. I just install Clockwork's Recovery and flashed the ROM I picked. Then I went ahead and downloaded the apk for the 4EXT Recovery and install it from there. It was troublesome in the beginning, but it was well worth it.
My suggestion is that you should do HTC Dev Unlock first. Then S-OFF.

I've sent my DS off for warranty, and it was returned with the new ics update installed on it. I immediately found out that the method i used to downgrade it from hboot 2.00 to 0.98(zergRUsh/tacoroot) wasn't working anymore. Are there any alternatives to unlocking the bootloader with htcdev, rooting and then going thru the whole downgrading procedures? Are there any other temproot exploits or are them under development?

Have tried both, but one needs tacoroot (not working on ics) and the other needs to be htcdev unlocked. Any other alternatives?

I don't think there are any alternatives for hboot 2.02.xxx.

Trouble getting htc dev unlocked
I've submitted the unlocking request on htcdev, and was sent the unlock_code.bin file. The trouble is I can't get it flashed thru fastboot.
I type
fastboot flash unlocktoken Unlock_code.bin
and it stucks on sending 'unlocktoken'. The bootloader does something, as to reboot it I have to close the command prompt, reopen it and type fastboot reboot-bootloader and it rebbots just fine.
I tried several times, but without luck. What can I do?
Anyone?

Maybe you can try to flash a eng hboot from your SD card on your phone.
You also need a resent version of busybox
Shut down your phone and pull the battery and wait 5 minuter before you put
your battery back. In the mean time install the lastest HTC-USB drivers on you computer.
Start your device in bootloader mode and plug it in to your computer.
You now got bootloader-usb. Now flash your Unlock_code.bin.
"fastboot flash unlocktoken Unlock_code.bin"
Boot your phone in recovery
Make a nandroid backup of your ROM, reboot your phone
To make a backup of the hboot by entering this:
1) open terminal on your phone
2) su
3) dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p18 of=/sdcard/backup.img
download a eng hboot.img and copy it to the SDcard/
1) open terminal on your phone
2) su
3) dd if=/sdcard/hboot.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p18
4) close the therminal
reboot in bootloader an see witch version of bootloader you got
If it has workt go to recovery and do a factory resset, reset dalvik and install a new rom and reboot
It works for me because my phone has revolutionary root but you can give it a try because I have not
found anyone has done this with HTC-dev, I also got no experience with HTC-dev.
Good luck ( I'm not responsible for any damage on your device )

From that page I gave you the link to there should be all the information you need to read and understand what/how to do and why.
Don't expect people to spoon-feed you the answers as you need to learn or you will simply screw your phone up and then start blaming everyone else on XDA for it.

You have to browse all threads to find which way to Root or S-OFF your DS, that's what I've done before deciding to S-OFF my DS.

You dont understand bro. I know what s off is, and how to achieve it. I have done it several times on different devices. I am totally aware of the risk of bricking my device.
I just need a bit of clarification about flashing the hboot. Which one can I flash over the 2.02?

While I've followed many guides in attempt to assist my friend in rooting his inspire, I've come across an issue upon using the AAHK...my problem occurs during the step one process and asks me if id like to download the ruu, I click yes, and it tells me I cannot do so and asks again if I want to download it...so I'm not sure what is wrong...but I cannot use the AAHK properly...? I did do the HTC bootloader unlock then relock steps I've read about...not rooting it seems to be the issue as the cmd window seems to be trying to reach a website in which it cannot?

AAHK is retired and unsupported. The server hosting the files it needs to download is no longer running.
Is there any other way to root this phone?

Unlock the bootloader, fastboot flash a recovery, and flash a custom ROM. You will also need to flash the boot.img from fastboot; instructions in my sig.
Need a solution.
Hey guys I just wanna know that my htc inspire 4g is rooted but not s-off.
Can anyone tell me can I flash in roms now?

Well actually I got it done by my friend but busybox says my phone is rooted.
When I boot into hboot it says
***RELOCKED***
ACE PVE SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT-2.00.0029
MICROP-0438
RADIO-26.10.04.03_M
eMMC-boot
You need to re-unlock to flash ROMs.
help, how to root now that the hack kit is gone
