[Q] AGPS build.prop fix - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

I read in the development to fix the AGPS setting you needed to modify the build.prop and add the following entry if it isn't already there to: ro.ril.def.agps.mode=1
Does it matter where specifically I put this line?
Thanks.

HSPA icon needs to be enabled first in order to be shown in the status bar. Sorry don't know where I forgot it.
Please do not post questions in the development section. This forum is for roms, kernels and guides.

It shows 3g because the framework is set to not differentiate by default. It's a simple boolean in the framework Res XML. You could garb the source for your build, change the value and rebuild. Alternatively decompile. Edit the Res file. Repack and recompile. Push via recovery.

Use a file browser like root browser. Then go to system, build prop, then choose edit text. Find the build prop line your supposed to edit then place in the code you want to edit. That's how I'd do it.

If you want your own hack, I don't believe so--unless there's a hex editor for Android available someplace. You can sometimes plain-text edit the actual keys to call other actual keys. For instance, I hacked one key file to replace the voice call button with a TAB, and that procedure did not need hex editing
I do believe the character you want is called a "tilde." If so, then chaostic_2k1's hacked bin has [email protected] producing a tilde--I can confirm that on my own SK4G.
IF that fits your needs, you could download his files from here, then copy over to specific sys directory without a computer (I assume you're rooted, etc).
EDIT: if that's the character you want, my own hacked file on that thread will also produce it via [email protected]

Nah, it's just .bin files, no need for cwm, etc. Go to the listed directory in /sys, rename the original files and copy over the new ones. Reboot.

Enabling App ops M8

Hi everyone,
I'm trying to edit the settings.smali and get app ops by similar to this method. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=52781401.
This is running Sense 6, 4.4.2 on the Verizon m8 rooted and S-off
I've been able to get the settings.smali but I'm stuck now on what I need to edit.
Any suggestions on what needs to be changed wither in the setting.smali or other locations to get the App ops back would be greatly appreciated.
https://github.com/Cygnuz/Settings/blob/master/Settings.smali
Edit: I would ask Calkulin. He is a pretty knowledgeable guy. Send him a PM with a link to your questions. He is pretty down to earth.
Other than that I dont know my self.
I would also ask the mods to move this to Q/A instead of Development.
@mcluvn has it turned on in his ROM here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/member.php?u=1913379
You would always just diff the settings APK after decompile and figure it out that way.
However I am not condoning the usage of someone elses mods in your own work with out appropriate permissions.
Ask the skyfall rom dev. I'm sure he'd help and he has it enabled in his latest build which is pretty close to stock.

Sounds good!
It's actually much more simple, I am in bed but tmw I'll post the edit needed. It's adding a string and adding some code to the security setting header .xml
(Feel free to compare against mine until I post the edits)
Edit:
These two edit's will have it show up in settings > security (although, you can put it in any header .xml you choose, really)
Add this to (go to the bottom of the .xml and add it there) res/values/strings.xml
Code:
<string name="app_ops_settings_summary">Manage app permissions</string>
(feel free to change this to your liking, "Manage app ops" Manage App Permissions", etc)
Add this to res/xml/security_settings_misc.xml
Code:
<Preference android:title="@string/app_ops_settings" android:key="app_ops_summary" android:summary="@string/app_ops_settings_summary" android:fragment="com.android.settings.applications.AppOpsSummary" />
BAM! You are the man Andy!! :victory:
Thanks everyone again for the help and support with this!

Sorry, the procure is the same for M7/M8, I don't know why I said they weren't.
You were most likely doing the part that is quoted above, but you also need to add text into res/strings.xml for the text that shows up.
I don't see "Apps" in Settings, do you mean in the Settings Menu under "App manager"? It's possible, yes - but far more work than this simple MOD.
This should work fine, install how ever your feel fit.
I suggest in a flashable.zip flashed in custom recovery.
AppOps should now be found in Settings > Security.
Also it seems but no smali in the code, that you are running an odex stock ROM?
This could be the issue if it doesn't work. but it should work just fine.

[Guide] All apps in splitview

Must be rooted. Edit build.prop persist.splitwindow .support_all
open system folder
-scroll to build.prop (past folders)
-copy/make backup
-open as text in text editor
-scroll to persist.splitwindow.support_all
-change value to true
- save and reboot
Depending on your app/tool you may need to copy build.prop somewhere, edit and replace old one in system with edited version.
Enjoy.

You need a good file manager with system access or an app or an app to edit build.prop. I use rom toolbox pro. Root Explorer is a good option I've used before too.

mjgspr95 great info - Might want to edit the OP to show the procedure and possibly change the title to [GUIDE] How to enable all apps in SplitView just to make it easier to find for people and keep the forums organized - also I am pretty sure this should be in General. But thank you for the info - it worked great for me.
and for those who are looking for a file browser - might want to check out ROOT Explorer

I bet you are trying to use Root Explorer to edit the file. Unfortunately the file size is too big and Root Explorer A) won't even show the entire file's contents and B) won't let you save the file even if the right commands were editable......
You have to find another alternative. Personally I pushed the file out of the phone, edited it on my computer, and pushed it back to the phone. It worked fine.

As much as I like (and also recommend) Root Explorer, it won't work with the build.prop file as it is too big for the Root Explorer text editor.

I use root explorer as well. I didn't realize that the text editor cant handle that large of a file... Anyway this is the way that I got around it on my Mac:
On Mac:
adb pull /system/build.prop .
vi build.prop
<Make changes>
adb push ./build.prop /mnt/sdcard/
On phone:
Remount /system RW in Root explorer
Rename /system/build.prop to /system/build.prop.bak
Move /sdcard/build.prop to /system/build.prop
Reboot
You could always just download build prop editor from the play store and it works and is easy.
Sent from my LG-D850 using Tapatalk
Edited the build.prop file. Ended up soft bricking my phone. Was able to reset but not fun.
This is an app that doesn't require mucking with build prop. Works well for me.
