Okay so please bare with me as I'm not to savvy on the phone tech stuff and terms...
Recently I flashed a new rom onto my s3. I believe it was hyper drive but not certain. Any ways since then my screen orientation and voice mail notifications have not been working.
First with the screen. It doesn't matter the app or what screen I'm on on my phone, when it's vertical its fine, when I turn the phone horizontal left or right the screen turns upside down.
I've tried to change setting, loaded different rooms and it doesn't change. I haven't dug into the system files cause I don't know what to change or even look for honestly.
Also since the original hyper drive flash my vm do not come through to notify me. Same situation...loaded new roms with no affect.
Can anyone help?

Not sure about MMS but screen orientation inversion is normally kernel related. If flashing different roms the kernel that comes with it should fix orientation. If flashing a 3rd party kernel you are using wrong kernel for carrier. A complete wipe and reflash should fix mms. If dirty flashing (ie wiping only dalvic and cache) files may be sticking between roms not allowing a fix of mms.
When I have installed roms I've always factory wiped at least 3 times then dumped cache and dalvik each time.
But an incorrect kernel...would that hold true for each rom though? I've installed at least 3 different roms since with different kernels and no change.

my phone freezes up multiple times a day and i have to take out the battery in order to get it to work. Does anyone else have this problem?
What are you running
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda premium
I have not experienced that. A bit of information might help others to possibly help you, though. Can you tell us what ROM you're using, if the problem started recently, if it started after you installed a certain app, if you're over clocking or under clocking, and if you've tried to do a factory data reset?
Im running stock. The last time i tried to install a rom i ended up with the picture in the attachment. So i took it to the local T-Mobile kiosk and they replaced it for me. i re-rooted it but didnt rom it at all. And its been like this since i got the replacement phone. never had the problem before. (this was a week ago)
Pretty picture. Kidding, of course. Reminds me of messing with interlaced graphics on my old Amiga.
If it's been doing it since you got it chances are it's probably a hardware issue. I've not heard of rooting causing issues like that. Did you install any apps after you got it, specifically anything that runs/syncs in the background?
Nothing i didnt have on before. umm.. Go SMS and Launcher, Widget Locker...
I'd go the factory data reset route & not install any apps for a day or so and see how it runs. If all is OK, start reinstalling your apps 1 x 1, give each app a day to see if the problem starts up.
If you do a factory data reset and it's still doing it, then it's probably faulty hardware.
Yeah try a factory reset and see how that does. The rainbow screen looks like a gingerbread rom without the correct bootloaders.

So that's the mysterious rainbow screen I keep reading about. Thanks, because I had no idea what it looked like (thank goodness). The bottom part reminds me of Poltergeist "Don't go into the light..."
Is this new phone they gave you refurbished?
I used to have that problem all the time when i was stock... New ROM and it went bye bye...
Hah that picture you got there reminds me of when i stupidly flashed a gb kernel on froyo... still fixed it and matter of factly I'm using the same device right now were all newbs at some point, don't let it discourage you, just take it as a lesson learned and be more careful next time

Completely stock skyrocket, for whatever reason a couple times a week my screen will go completely black and won't be able to unlock. The only way to get it working again is too remove the battery. In this state I still hear txt tones and such, but no buttons will brig the screen back.

What have you done to your phone so far? Root? Install ROM? Kernel? OC? UV?
All of these things will be useful to know when trying to solve it.

First 2 words of my post "completely stock". No roms, kernals, or flash. Just straight out of the box phone with 2.3.6 update through att
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using XDA App
That honestly sounds like a sleep death, which definitely should NOT happen on a stock rom... If you can I would definitely take that phone back to ATT or wherever you got it to get it replaced.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda premium
Could a app cause this? Think it started after I downloaded ICS keyboard. The screen sometimes goes black when I unlock it, but its not a deep dark black like the sleep mode, when this happens if I hit the back button, it fixes it. So I switched which ics keyboard o use now, so hope it stops both issues

i had 2 stock sgh-i727r completely unmodified do this. i did factory resets and issues re-occurred. could have been app related but i was having it with no apps after.
didnt bother troubleshooting more than a hour, took it to rogers as both phones had problems < 15 days of getting the phone
first one lasted just 12 hours, rogers store did a DOA replacement and got it right away.
2 weeks later, my replacement sgh-i727r had the same problem. called rogers, got my replacement in 3 days.
so far so good.
rogers chalked it up to hardware issue after asking if i had rooted the phone each time.
This happened to me for the first time ever, yesterday.
I received a text. Phone made a notification sound, but then the screen would not come on. I could hear keys and notification sounds, but no visuals.
I took the battery out and now all is ok again.
I am on a stock 2.3.5 Rogers ROM.
if this problem persists, follow these steps.
Backup apps with titanium backup, but only the ones with information u really need
export contacts to sd
download darkside to sd
boot into cwm and flash darkside
reboot the phone BUT RIGHT BACK INTO ODIN.
Flash the stock rom or one of the pre-rootex ones
Problem solved :-D

This EXACT thing happened to my skyrocket and my friends on our bone stock phones.. We have both since flashed quick wiz rom onto our phone and has not happened a single time... The problem? ATT Sucks... just flash your phone
This started happening to me today and it has happened more than 4 times now :/ I get the notification... BLN comes on but I can't turn on the screen. If I click the power button or volume buttons, the backlights go off for a few seconds and then come back on. This is getting really annoying
Edit: Rebooted the phone just now and it happened AGAIN on the first text I received... wtff is this
So after flashing a few roms and restored a few nandroids, my vibrate seems completely borked. For all my roms the vibrate doesn't work at all, for notifications, calls, texts, etc. And I know the first thing is to check the messaging and system settings and I have. They are all on. I also wiped system and factory reset and wiped all caches to no prevail. Restored an older nandroid where I knew the vibrate worked and it no longer works. I'm using TWRP to do all my flashing if that has anything to do with it. Any suggestions guys? I rely a lot on the vibrate when I'm out and about. Thanks for any help

I even tried flashing a new rom from scratch. Same thing. No vibrate at all.

I'm almost positive its a hardware issue. I was having the same exact problem until I dropped it on accident and it started vibrating again. I guess I just got lucky. Sounds like your gonna have to completely restore it and bring it back to at&t

I've had this problem before. It was definitely a hardware issue, even after flashing, and restoring many times.
Finally just broke down and took it in. They replaced no questions asked... makes me wonder if its a known issue...?
Just take it in if you can. Even if it's unlocked. No one cared.
Only problem is that I bought it off Craigslist a while ago. The vibrate worked then and I have the receipt they received but if asked to show ID it would not match lol. Idk if they will help me out if I didn't buy it there

Do they care at all that I bought it there or not? Either way I have the receipt and I can always bring it back to stock to give it a whirl.

I know a ton of people are having issues with some of the more recent version of this FM but my problem is a little different. When I go to wake my screen it immediately shuts back off. I'm not sure what the cause might be but its quite frustrating considering it is the only issue I've encountered so far. This can happen multiple times in a row before it decides to finally stay on. Any ideas what might be the cause? I even wiped to make sure it wasn't an app but it still persists. If it helps at all I am on CM version 10-20120815-UNOFFICIAL-ville. If you guys need any other info I'd be more than happy to provide it.

You should consider flashing the latest nightly and see if the problem still occurs. I am running the latest nightly as my daily driver and have no problems at all beside minor wakelocks

Whoa yeah agree with above post. You're on a build that is over a month old and isn't even an official release. Download the newest build from here http://get.cm/?device=ville . You should be able to flash right over your existing rom without losing data, just wipe cache and dalvik cache after you flash. There are many, many improvements since the build you are currently running.
Thanks for the tip guys. I downloaded the latest ROM to my phone some reason I still have the same issue. I'm not really sure what's going on now I did a wipe but that didn't seem to help last time. You guys think an app caused this or is it hardware? I recall something similar happening back on my old phone when I used to mess with the processor speed.

Have you messed around with the screen brightness and accidentally set lowest brightness to 0 ?
I once did that....
I wish that was all but sadly I have no clue what the issue is.

Has anyone noticed some super slow screen rotations? Also, on the home screen, are you able to auto rotate? My MoPho Q is acting funny after flashing some stock system images and updating(Mine freezes and reboot loops sometimes). If anyone has any issues with their screen having rotate lag please post here, thanks!
I havent experienced any of those issues... I have rooted deodexed and otherwise stock phone. Maybe try to reflash?

Thanks for replying. I have been reflashing stuff all day, nothing seems stable. Had phone up for 10 hours then started reboot looping. I formatted my sd card and did factory reset, tried 3 or 4 different ways of recovering everything so idk what else to do. I am just now re-rooting and trying deodexed, making backups every step of the way(beyond frustrated).

Wow that's no fun... how bad is the auto rotate lag? It takes mine about .2 seconds, not long but there is a slight delay. And the only way I can rotate the home screen is if I slide the keyboard out. I was looking into making my own ROM but didn't figure it out. I'm hoping for one soon, maybe that would fix for your problem too.
Sent from my XT897 using xda app-developers app
Just recently I've been having problems with my screen not rotating back after sliding out the keyboard. Sometimes it doesn't rotate at all. I'm just rooted with the latest update also. Don't know why this is happening.
I've had that a couple times, usually it goes away on its own. I tried turning rotation on/off, forcing it back to portrait mode using apps that only run in portrait, cycling lock screen on and off, finally it just started fixing it self after a reboot or time.

Haha, did exact same things. And you're right. Hasn't happened in awhile.
Just wanted to confirm that I have problems with this too. Sometimes I get tired of waiting to the point that I open the keyboard to force landscape mode.
