So everyone knows that situation we are in with our kernel.... At the moment, its DECENT, but it is extremely outdated. Although it is enough to keep things working at the moment, who knows what may happen with future OS releases... We have had no official support since the days of gingerbread. Myself and a handful of other developers have been making changes/additions when needed and to the best of our abilities, but with such an outdated kernel, it is getting harder and harder to make necessary changes to work with the existing source.
As of right now, this will be a two man project... Myself and rwaterspf1. Those of you who are not familiar with rwaterspf1, that is the member that recently donated his infuse to me. I got to talking with him and it turns out that he is not a stranger around kernel development in other areas. I am currently talking with a couple other people and may get some assistance from them as well.
We will be attempting to add support for the infuse4g into the Aries kernel. - Which is a updated and supported kernel
This is DAY ONE, and nothing has been done yet. This is the very beginning and for those of you that are not familiar with kernel development, there is alot that goes into it, so do NOT expect this to be completed with a day or two. This will be an ONGOING development thread.
As a disclaimer, I want to make sure that everyone is aware that this may NOT work at all and may just be a huge fail. We will try our best and from the looks of it, I think its definitely something we can figure out.
This is a WORK IN PROGRESS, and we ask that you all support us even in the event of failure.
Progress can be found -> HERE
Efforts as of 4/28/2013
* MTD partition table and file system files added into kernel
* Touchscreen drivers copied over
* Added video driver files and edited existing files
* Edited modem files for infuse compatibilities
* Infuse edits added to sec_jack file for compatibility
You can find rwaterspf1's profile from HERE
There will be numerous benefits if we are able to do this... And hell... who knows.... it may even fix up the 720p recording issue in doing this... No promises though.
I'm willing to try. And I'm last to throw rocks as long as great effort is given. And seeing your roms, don't think you have any other mindset.

Always in to help and do what I can to try and get things working right. Scott is the man on the infuse as of late, but we can't forget who started all this...

So who are the developers that are going to be developing for the Samsung Nexus S 4G (D720)? I figured this is a question everyone has been wondering. Im very excited to get started with my Nexus S 4G! (Previously came from the HTC Evo and there were alot of dedicated dev., Hope to see the same here)
P.S I didnt put this in the Q&A Because this is a direct question to the developers in this section about the current ROM's Available. Please don't be upset : )
I hope netarchy puts up a rom with his liquid smooth touches. His evo rom + kernel was ILL.
The thing is, the nexus s and ns4g are dev phones, bare bone AOSP, so a custom rom is just gunna be "themed" a bit and/or the real "improvements" are in the Kernel or any additional apps the dev has created.
I would love to see a bunch of ports make their way over. I would imagine that a dev phone would be one of the easiest to port/build for (easy for a dev, not the average human )
in a way, we all are.. who is to say that someone has to be a "dev" to make something, or find out what may fix something? on the heroc we had hundreds of users sitting in an irc room helping each other trying to figure out why things didnt work and what would happen if we pressed this button 7 times instead of 4..
so in short grab some code and lets start working my repo is synced and already compiled im working with the rest of the ACS team to see if we cant bring some lovins on over from the epic/evo
trying to come up with a good name for the rom >.>
Well, its very time consuming. I did alot of theming in the past, then wrote a few apps for WebOS, but just don't seem to have the time anymore with fulltime work, college, etc.
You are right tho, anyone can learn and the nexus line are a great place to start, simple and not complicated. Come on young high-school minds with oodles of time! Make ur name known! Lol
Really tho, I wish I could contribute more

This number one thing to do is get ur pc ready with the right software and drivers (there are a couple applications for compiling/decompiling and signing, not just what u use for root)
There's a thread around here about theming for the epic. It has a nice intro to the basic setup ull need, just be sure to replace anything epic with sns, u can then move on to ROMs once u understand what composes a ROM. When I'm back at my PC I could probably hook u up w a good place to start, but right now I'm out and about after this heathen Bulls game! Woot woot!

If I may suggest, Epic 4G is just about the same as the NS4G. From what I hear they got our stock to work on Epic just after I posted this.
I know they have the CM7 half way ported on Epic as well as the obvious stock with the TouchWiz interface for whoever likes that stuff I figured this would be the easiest place to start.
stop spamming this, its not going to work, for the same reasons why i explained in your thread about it
It probably will work as much as flashing a Droid ROM onto a Milestone...same hardware...epic fail.
more so then that all they currently have is a .32 cm7 kernel a semi working .35 cm7 kernel and their stock .32 touchwiz kernel.. we only have .35 stock kernel, even if you could get past the bootloops good luck trying to make a phone call or get crap to stop force closing
Spamming? Chill out man. I'm just trying to help.

OK so the hold up now seems to be LG right? in search for lg device drivers?
I think its ready for a ALPHA test now.. touchscreen works 100% and so does the radio wifi etc.. hardware acceleration wont be coming anytime soon but i can live without it for now
There are a lot of things that will need to be ironed out before we can even consider a beta.
First hand, without hw acceleration the phone crawls.

Correct unless some kind of workaround is created.

Hope you can get HW acceleration to work soon. Can't you do whatever other roms like cyanogen mod did?
Its not like they got exclusive access to tegra drivers...
The problem is the binary blob implements hw acceleration according to the way Gingerbread expects it which is different than how Honeycomb and ICS do it.
I've seen at least one person talk about rewriting the library from the android side to match how the nVidia blob works. Which would be a good backup plan if LG renegs on the ICS update for our phones.

I understand it's not as easy as copy paste source code, but the strategy should be the similar. I've never done any low level development so I'm just shooting in the dark here.
Also cm9 is expected in 2 months and I assume it will support the g2x. I wouldn't count on lg for anything. So rewriting the library is probably the best bet.
Glad to see so many new people jumping on and helping out. I'm sure most people here would help if they knew how.
Thanks for the work, guys! Where can we donate?
I've been a lurker on these forums for a long time and never realized I had to have 10 posts to post in the developer forums, so at least I can post in this thread. I will be getting up to speed on the ICS source over the next couple days and hope to join the effort in development of the port to the g2x as soon as I have my dev environment up. I'll be sitting in the IRC channel to ingest the info on where you guys are at so that I can jump in and help with any parts (sound maybe?) that you guys need assistance with.
Great job so far, hopefully I can be of assistance.

Man,
I wish we had that many devs on our phone
Oh well, if we had more on cm7, it will help us collect more info on our phone so we can try a port to ics or aosp, or whatever...
Think of cm7 as a 'information collector' we can use to do new projects in the future.
I'd love to hop on this project, but I can't handle that much multitasking. I think we'd get further with more people on cm7, and then later do an ics port.

Just to update everyone. I managed to get fix a couple of things. When I hit the menu button while in setup wizard, I can get into the wireless menu. I was also able to navigate thru the setup wizard, but had no keyboard input my email/password. I found I was missing a key file for the keyboard and will fix it later. However, after navigating thru the setup wizard, the homescreen/lockscreen doesn't show. It's coming together, slowly but surely...
Keep up the great work Thomas!
I made some good progress, I think anyways...lol
I installed swype and was able to get past the setup wizard properly.
I got the lockscreen to appear with a temp fix.
Still no homescreen, but I know where the problems lie and will be working on them tomorrow...

To all the XDA Motorola Triumph fans we have arrived. We have packed our bags from Android Forums and this will be our new stomping ground. We took most of the dev's and formed a collaborative team
https://github.com/WX435
We will be working on making the Motorola Triumph a much better phone and all working together to fix many issues. Right now our main goal is working on rewriting our device files for CM7 and then moving those files into CM9 and AOKP. If we continue to have success we may also start working on AOSP flavors like Gingerbread and ICS as well. Stay tuned for some radical changes and fixes!

Hi, G60, can you comment on this latest development here: http://androidforums.com/triumph-al...d-sharp-2-2-2-triumph-mms-now-working-5.html?
It seems that using this remodeled Sharp ROM, everything in HW (including AGPS) can be made to work. Is that something which can be leveraged for general development? If so, perhaps in the spirit of team building, everyone can pull together to get one ROM out to use as a basis. Sorry, I'm a dev IRL, but don't know much about how these ROMs are built (from source? provided binaries?). I can help if we're shorthanded doing such a thing.
Thanks.

agent,
Right now our focus is CM7. I am currently reworking the device files for the phone, trying to make everything perfect. I have already downloaded the sharp ROM and will dive into it more to pull out the AGPS to see if I can make it work in CM7. Right now my focus has been on the video and it's getting much better but still needs some tweaks. b_randon is working on the kernel, we are hoping to upgrade that as well. Once I have the device files done will then be reworking them into CM9 & AOKP along with kernel. It's a slow process as we have completely started from scratch. Just know we are working it :good:
Ok, thanks. I just tried out the Sharp ROM, and another thing its seems to get right is deep sleep while wifi is on. I'm not sure if it's doing it correctly or just turning it on when screen is unlocked (not sure what's default on android), but I had auto-sync on. I've never had wifi deep sleep work before (Juicedefender has a bug here). That's kind of a big deal since we've previously had to trade off battery life for speed. Wifi-on is also instant whereas it takes a while in Juicedefender.
Hi. I figured I'd start this thread here and work from it until things are farther along and more legit. I just got the Sprint Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 a few days ago and now I have CM-11.0 booting on it. NOW MUCH WORKS YES RADIOS. THERE IS NO NFC SUPPORT!!! and BT works, audio works mostly. So, consider this just a nice little preview you can flash to see Cid on your tablet. Don't post bug reports and get all crazy please. I don't post much because I don't have time to respond very often. The link I'm providing is a generic link for now, but I'll post specific links IN THE THREAD for builds with new fixes and some info about the builds. Also at that link is a CWMR image for v6.0.4.7. Everything works fine on it. I've been testing it for a couple days. So, to recap: CM/CWMR for lt02ltespr ONLY.
http://www.oudhitsquad.com/android/?dir=Samsung/lt02ltespr
You might notice a carbon directory in there. This device WILL become an official CarbonRom device ASAP, but for now that dir is empty.
PLEASE NOTE: I don't do mods/kernels etc. I don't have time. If I do release something like that it's because I'm sharing something I'm working on for personal use and might not support it properly.
It's nice to be here. I hope there are some users who will enjoy this stuff. Cheers and OUT!
UPDATE 4/8/14: Today's updates are stripped of all NFC and FM radio stuff since the device has not HW for them. Also, I've been looking into getting USB host mode working so there's been some, but not full success there. I removed geomagneticd so the Google Maps app acts more like it usually does, but I think I like the compass effect we had going. Dual band wifi is more stable and both radios show up on boot for me. I checked BT audio yesterday in my car with a third party BT audio device and it worked, so now I can really be a road hazard. Not much else is fixed.
New builds will be here:

Count me in for testing. If it had wifi I'd be happy lol, anything is better than stock but I hate touchwiz

Today is your lucky day. I have a working WiFi build ready for upload. I'm out right now, so expect a link tonight or tomorrow morning.
Sweet deal. I will be watching for it. Like I said I'll do any testing you need. Maybe a little help and I could even help you out building the rom. I have some exp with rom kitchen and a little porting exp. Had a few roms myself (toro,ls970,vivow) so im glad to contribute any way I can on this project. Hopefully CM will see it and pick the device up officially.

It's already getting noticed. ARCO added the device to msm8930 common for me yesterday. I'll subim patched myself once I'm farther along.
Hell yeah. That's awesome
Any luck with the upload? The suspense is murder lol.
I'm down for testing too if you need it.

Do you need some assistance? I could help you out uploading and what not if you dont have time. My bandwidth is ridiculous. I'm sure there's a lot of folks just waiting for this to be posted with working wifi. This is the only 4.4.2 build that I've noticed in the works for this device.

Im guessing the thread must be dead or something. Which really sucks cause this would have been a great start for other rom development for T217S
It's only been a few days. Have faith. Life happens.

You guessed wrong bro. New build is up today. Cm-11.0. Wifi works, both channels, sound...No cameras yet, headphone insertion kills things etc. It's buggy, but it's coming. I'm a busy guy. Be patient.

Way to prove me wrong. Love it when that happens lol. Running it now, seems nice, few graphical issues but nothing so bad its not usable as my DD. Can't wait to see what the future holds for this ROM/Device. Though IMO anything without TouchWiz is a step in the right direction.
Thanks again, and I'll keep you informed on any issues I find and am able to replicate.
I think I swapped the adreno drivers from the s4 mini... Spread the word, its coming.
Would you mind if I made a thread in the development section with links to this thread and the ROM? Of course you'd be getting the credit and all, I just think it would get noticed more there.

I'd like to wait until it's a bit better please. Solid audio and the graphics glitches at least. I'm working on it now. Thanks for asking though bro.
Alright. That's why I asked before doing it

This is awesome news. I'm going to miss multi window but it's worth it to get rid of touchwiz. Thanks for your work. Can't wait to try it whens few more his get worked out.

Am I right in assuming this is for the sprint version of the Tab 3? I currently have the t210 device and would love to see CM on it! Very new to Samsung. Only had the device a couple of days!
Yeah it is, but after its a little more stable I might decide to start porting it out to the other Tab 3 models. This is just an alpha build still and is far from ready. But if you could find a CM for T210 I may be able to hack-port it over. It wouldn't be the most stable thing out there but it would be a start similar to this ROM
