Hi. I've been running CleanROM for a while and i've recently decided to go back to stock. I relocked my bootloader and ran the 2.20 RUU. Everything went fine and I finished the setup. I decided to do the OTA update for 3.18 so I downloaded it and ran it. My phone reboot and now it won't turn on. Have I bricked my phone?
Sorry for the double post, but I think i've bricked my phone . Look at this screenshot
http://i43.tinypic.com/2ccp9ic.jpg
You can try the unbrick evita thread. Just Google unbrick evita. You'll need to use Linux. There's a guide to making a Linux boot usb in q&a if you need it.

I'm going to try this Ubuntu method and see if it works. I absolutely cannot afford a new phone right now lol.
Well I tried using this method:

No luck. Are there anymore tutorials out there? Maybe I downloaded the wrong file.

It is because you wasn't trying to s off. Go to the android development section and look for unbricking the one x.

You can also just Google unbrick evita. It will be the first result.

Just curious if this method could be tweaked to work with our phones for those who have bricked.

On first impression, I don't think so. It's fixing a completely different kind of brick from what we've got going on here. I think it would fail at the first step because the partitions won't enumerate properly.
Hi All -
I've got a bricked HTC One XL here (tried to unroot to use Good for Enterprise) and I've been trying this method to get any life back. I'm getting stuck at step 6, with error FATAL: Module qcserial is in use.
Also, when I run ls /dev/sd* I only see /dev/sda, /dev/sda1 and /dev/sda2. Am I missing something?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
The unbrick Evita thread is the only one that has a chance of working for an HTC one XL.
And you should be able to see one sdb for example with many numbers. Like in the picture in the unbrick Evita thread.

Hmm...okay, well what does the fact that I only see /dev/sda, /dev/sda1 and /dev/sda2 mean? Does it mean that I have a paperweight or is there still hope?
Thanks!
It means you have a paperweight, but it's possible you're not spamming enough for the partitions to enumerate. So I would try a few times if you haven't before giving up.
But you need those partitions to enumerate properly to be able to fix it.

For those of you who still havent rooted/unlocked, or just got a new phone (my case), as long as you are still on 1.85 you can still root! AT&T has NOT blocked the exploit yet. I was able to successfully root and unlock my brand new one x (Luckily came with 1.85). I followed beaups' guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1709296
Somethings to keep in mind:
Make sure your phone has not started downloading the new update, if it has do a factory reset, including all data.
Follow all the steps in the guide. Even if you are bad with adb. I do not know if the one click works still.
Huge thanks to beaups!!
Some notes for people new to rooting the one x:
To get into the bootloader make sure fast boot is unchecked in settings -> power. Turn the phone off, then press and hold power+volume down to get into the bootloder.
Don't try to get into recovery with the usb cable attached, it won't work.
Damn it, WHY DIDN'T I THINK OF THIS?
Stuck on 2.20 now but hopefully this helps others!

The right one is the bootloader, but yeah, cant really tell the important info such as hboot etc.
But how is it bricked? what does it do? What doesnt work etc?
Generally though, if you can get into bootloader you can fix the device, but theres always some exceptions.

From the look of it, all you need to do is flash a recovery(TWRP), flash a rom, fastboot flash the boot.img and you should be good to go.
How to perform each step is listed in several guides already.
So awhile back when I had my inspire I checked into unlocking it, and found the forum on here about the aahk advanced hack kit. I just recently started messing with it since I have a new phone. I've had some problems with rooting it. First time the process went about halfway through then quit. Now every time you try it the process will not cooperate and gives an error. Anyone have any suggestions for a noob like me to try and help in any way? Anything is appreciated.

What was the output? And which version of AAHK?
What do you mean by output? And its an older version...probably from May 2012. I think there is a new version that came out in November 2012, i just don't know if I've bricked it by using the old kit.

Here is the video I used to root when I was on 2.3.3 Gingerbread. It's painless, but takes some waiting.
What is the error you are getting, exactly? D: and if you are on 2.3.3 try my link. ^.^ If you are on 2.3.5 or another version, try searching more hack kits for rooting that specific rom version.

Ok, step, by step, what did you do? And by output I mean what did AAHK say when it ran (both times). Also, what does it say when you reboot into hboot? (Reboot holding power and volume-down.)
Noob mistake I know, but I couldn't tell you. (Calc and physics has my brain fried...). I think I'm going to try the latest hack kit tonight and come back on here if I need help or get stuck. More than likely I'll be back.

Okay so here's what happened last night. I tried the new aahk (11092012) and it required a downgrade of the rom. Process went thru but however when it got to thr hboot menu I received a message telling me that the image was not found. I have a pic of the output where it tells me the downgrade is complete (if anyone wants to decipher it for me), all the way thru the hboot directions. Could this be a faulty sd card?

This tool will put backup critical partition data and then put your phone

Before running this script, you should have TWRP loaded onto your phone.
Plug your phone in via USB and ensure USB debugging is enabled.

You're imei when you unlock it. But we talked about it a bit on here and none of us know for sure how close an eye they keep on that. Sucks about the water. Even sweat or snow or Moist air/steam can turn that thing red so it's a really ****ty indicator of whether or not there's actual water damage.

You need recovery for that to work unfortunately and it seems to be related to samsung phones which I'm 90% sure has a different emmc partition table.
With our EMMC bricks you can't get into anything other than QDL mode. Jtag or Replace motherboard only.

There is one method in the android development section it has been there for months and it's the first post. There are to others that have been updated since it was posted last year also in the android development section. Lastly all the methods work you just have to CAREFULLY follow directions.

Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app

Oh OK I read a lot of the comments and they are positive feedback but as I watched on this guy on YouTube his comment section are loaded with this "messed up my phone" or "don't do this this doesn't work" very little comments that said this worked for me. If this doesn't work on the first try I understand using another USB port on the computer is an option and using a different cord other than the one Samsung gives you is also an option. Is there anything to know about before doing this? This phone s my daily driver and I really don't want to have to use a prepaid phone.
And Should I also download the stock ROM not rooted before doing in case it does like some kind of soft brick?
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app

If you hard brick your phone you send it to jtag and pay them to get it fixed because nothing else works.

Just thought you might like to know that I just used CASUAL this morning to root my galaxy s3 on Verizon build VRBMF1 with no problem. CASUAL unlocks the bootloader and installs TWRP which I like so far. Just make sure you grab the right download and if it doesn't work the first time try again with a different mirror. There's a version of it floating around out there that for some reason wouldn't work with my drivers.
Hope this helps ease your mind a little. Oh btw I probably read 1000 posts about rooting and the best method and someone claims to have bricked their with every single one of them. It's a risk we take.
