After seeing postings about a Verizon Galaxy S III update yesterday, I checked using "About device -> Software update" in Settings this morning.
A 30 MB download started and the update completed in about 5 minutes. Software Update says it was an update from LF2 to LG7.
Yeah and kills universal search and you cant disable the remote diagnostics if youre stock and not rooted.
Also several users have confirmed it will break root. They all were stock rooted with stock recovery.

I am on the Stock rom, rooted and bootloader unlocked Using Voodoo OTA RootKeeper, EZ-Unlock, and CWM. Re-Locked bootloader, disabled root, took the update. After the update completed, CWM asked to disable the new boot image, selected yes. Rebooted, got a message saying the update failed, however it installed and I am at I535VRLG7. I was able to restore root, and unlock bootloader without any problem..
How do I keep the phone from taking the update?

Did you unlock your bootloader? If so did you read the BIG WARNING?if not go back and read it. Generally once you root you don't want to give vzw a chance to unroot you. If you unlocked your bootloader It could brick your phone.
So generally don't take ota updates! You wait for the devs to check them out First and modify them for us.
As far as i Can tell this ota just takes stuff away from us And installs some vzw remote access crap. ( with that on your phone you will have to go back to stock if you just call customer support for help)

The update itself has useful stuff (a new radio which fixes no sim issues), but we have that already and it should just be flashed by itself, imo.
Well got my first no sim with the radio epic fail.. So much for fixing that maybe just a push to get that bootloader relocked

Did you do it via OTA or flashed the radio? I'm hoping you flashed invisiblek's in Odin. That one was actually the wrong version.

Flash the CWM version. invisiblek accidentally bundled the previous radio in the Odin package. Not sure if it's updated yet.

When your phone is powered of completely, hold the power and volume down keys at the same time. This will then bring up a white screen with a load of text. Look at the top and if it says 'S-off' then I assume you've unlocked the boot loader. If it says 'S-on' I assume not. But this isn't always the case.
Try it anyway and if this helps please leave a thank you

That is just for HTC devices.
Just reboot your phone and if the first samsung logo when booting up disappears quickly then you have an unlocked biitloader.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
The simplest way to tell is if you reboot your device and if the first splash screen that appears flashes "Samsung" really quick, then you are unlocked. If you are not unlocked it will stay up for a second or two.

What version of ez unlock are you using? Make sure you use version 1.2. The later versions don't work.
Actually they do work as I used 1.4 and the only thing is that it says unknown. Also once it gives you the prompt saying the phone is unlocked you flash a custom recovery to see if you have successfully unlocked the bootloader.

You probably flashed an incompatible kernel. Basically if you flash a kernel meant for ICS it won't work on jelly bean and vice versa.

It has been widely known/reported that 1.4/1.3 are non-functional. I think you are the first person I've seen to claim otherwise. Maybe it works for some? All I know is that 1.4 did not work for me I had to revert to 1.2, and this is the same for everyone else in the ez unlock thread on Rootz.

I'm assuming you downloaded ez-unlock from the market? That's version 1.4, which has been widely reported as non-functional. Uninstall the current app then download version 1.2 from this thread and install it:

So awhile back when I had my inspire I checked into unlocking it, and found the forum on here about the aahk advanced hack kit. I just recently started messing with it since I have a new phone. I've had some problems with rooting it. First time the process went about halfway through then quit. Now every time you try it the process will not cooperate and gives an error. Anyone have any suggestions for a noob like me to try and help in any way? Anything is appreciated.

Ok, step, by step, what did you do? And by output I mean what did AAHK say when it ran (both times). Also, what does it say when you reboot into hboot? (Reboot holding power and volume-down.)

Okay so here's what happened last night. I tried the new aahk (11092012) and it required a downgrade of the rom. Process went thru but however when it got to thr hboot menu I received a message telling me that the image was not found. I have a pic of the output where it tells me the downgrade is complete (if anyone wants to decipher it for me), all the way thru the hboot directions. Could this be a faulty sd card?

Hi. I've been running CleanROM for a while and i've recently decided to go back to stock. I relocked my bootloader and ran the 2.20 RUU. Everything went fine and I finished the setup. I decided to do the OTA update for 3.18 so I downloaded it and ran it. My phone reboot and now it won't turn on. Have I bricked my phone?

On first impression, I don't think so. It's fixing a completely different kind of brick from what we've got going on here. I think it would fail at the first step because the partitions won't enumerate properly.
Hi All -
I've got a bricked HTC One XL here (tried to unroot to use Good for Enterprise) and I've been trying this method to get any life back. I'm getting stuck at step 6, with error FATAL: Module qcserial is in use.
Also, when I run ls /dev/sd* I only see /dev/sda, /dev/sda1 and /dev/sda2. Am I missing something?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
The unbrick Evita thread is the only one that has a chance of working for an HTC one XL.
And you should be able to see one sdb for example with many numbers. Like in the picture in the unbrick Evita thread.

Hmm...okay, well what does the fact that I only see /dev/sda, /dev/sda1 and /dev/sda2 mean? Does it mean that I have a paperweight or is there still hope?
Thanks!
It means you have a paperweight, but it's possible you're not spamming enough for the partitions to enumerate. So I would try a few times if you haven't before giving up.
But you need those partitions to enumerate properly to be able to fix it.

There is one method in the android development section it has been there for months and it's the first post. There are to others that have been updated since it was posted last year also in the android development section. Lastly all the methods work you just have to CAREFULLY follow directions.
Yes its hard yo find all the tight files I have Odin 307 I think do you know if that will work with the files?

Yes it will work.
Is it beanstwon method that you are referring to?
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
Yes it doesn't require Odin. It is just a one click method.
Oh OK I read a lot of the comments and they are positive feedback but as I watched on this guy on YouTube his comment section are loaded with this "messed up my phone" or "don't do this this doesn't work" very little comments that said this worked for me. If this doesn't work on the first try I understand using another USB port on the computer is an option and using a different cord other than the one Samsung gives you is also an option. Is there anything to know about before doing this? This phone s my daily driver and I really don't want to have to use a prepaid phone.
And Should I also download the stock ROM not rooted before doing in case it does like some kind of soft brick?
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app

Just thought you might like to know that I just used CASUAL this morning to root my galaxy s3 on Verizon build VRBMF1 with no problem. CASUAL unlocks the bootloader and installs TWRP which I like so far. Just make sure you grab the right download and if it doesn't work the first time try again with a different mirror. There's a version of it floating around out there that for some reason wouldn't work with my drivers.
Hope this helps ease your mind a little. Oh btw I probably read 1000 posts about rooting and the best method and someone claims to have bricked their with every single one of them. It's a risk we take.
