Since 4 weeks ago, i released a failure.
I'm utterly disappointed in myself and am very apologetic.
Because of that, i've used the 28 days testing and testing and testing.
Now, i've finally solved my issue, which is packing up the zImage.
I thank you if you still believe me
As for packaging the kernel, this is what i've found:
Code:
################################################################################
HOW TO BUILD KERNEL FOR GT-I8160_EUR
1. How to Build
- get Toolchain
download and install arm-eabi-4.4.3 toolchain for ARM EABI.
Extract kernel source and move into the top directory.
$ export CROSS_COMPILE=/opt/toolchains/arm-eabi-4.4.3/bin/arm-eabi-
$ make GT-I8160_defconfig
$ make
2. Output files
- Kernel : Kernel/arch/arm/boot/zImage
- module : Kernel/drivers/*/*.ko
3. How to Clean
$ make clean
[COLOR=Red]4. How to make .tar binary for downloading into target.
- change current directory to Kernel/arch/arm/boot
- type following command
$ tar cvf GT-I8160_EUR.tar zImage[/COLOR]
################################################################################
Those in red is the cure for my problems XD
With that, i now shall build the kernel.
The first test build will be here. If it boots, i will release it in the devment section.
And i'm very sorry for not replying PMs for 4 weeks
If you have any other queries, head to my twitter

Nevertheless, im gonna make a kernel.bin.md5, same as D-Kernel's format.
I can not flash this kernel. The Odin write FAILED.
Sent from my GT-I8160 using xda premium
Ok. i think i know why. Im gonna add md5 for the next release.
I think zImage has to written as kernel.bin. IDK but maybe it will work.
Sent from my GT-I8160 using xda app-developers app
Released a new one. If it fails, im following the post above, renaming zImage into kernel.bin
and then md5ing it.
Which is the same format as D-kernel? I guess so XD
I made all that in the instruction for compilation and successed but I'm afraid to try it. Compiled stock kernel without any modification to source just for test. Also tried the linaro toolchain and it works but still afraid to test the result.
To the autor - keep up with the good work.
Test2 --> Odin --> PDA --> is FAIL too...
this is the next one.
you can use the dd method from terminal emulator to push it.
next build is a tar.md5
i really hate it when odin wants to verify the package. make thingss whole lot more complicated.
kernel.bin.md5 - 4.41 MB
This has SIO Scheduler and many more. see the github commits
Can i use Universal Kernel Flash?
---------- Post added at 05:39 AM ---------- Previous post was at 05:36 AM ----------
Do you only rename file?
yes. UKF works.
No. i did two commands that is required to md5 the file.

Introducing a new Recovery for the Evo Shift based off of CWM. I like ClockWorkMod recovery especially since it is the only one that will flash a Sense ROM properly. There are things that have always bugged me about the recovery though. That is why I have decided to make a new recovery with the features that work and others that I have added from other recoveries (and my own code).
Credits:
Cyanogen (source)
Koush (CWM base)
inxane (terminal and file manager)
Amon-ra (images/some source)
drellisdee (battery level source)
Features:
0 MB to remove sd-ext partition
File manager
Terminal commands
Upgrade/downgrade sd-ext
Option to select ext2, ext3 and ext4 for sd-ext
Check battery level
SuperWipe (select 1 to 5 wipes) includes system
No more no,no,no,no,yes,no,no - now no and yes lol
Re-organized main screen (ex: all wipes moved to wipe menu)
Instructions:
For recovery.img:
Make sure you have the Android SDK installed
Reboot to bootloader
In bootloader select FASTBOOT if not already selected
Open a terminal or command prompt
Type fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
For PG06IMG:
Rename zip file to PG06IMG.zip
Make sure it is at the root of your SDcard
Reboot to bootloader to flash
Changelog [5/22/12]:
MD5 disabled for backups, issues were reported (much faster now)
Image fixes
Reported issues:
When phone is powered off plugged in, recovery will boot up and a minute or two later will power off again.
Md5 issues on backups (v1.0b only).
Using ROM manager to make a backup doesn't work.

so...........another kernel 3.0.x thread? now we have 4 thread...I think that two is ok, bbut four ones...
I thought 3.0 kernel was gonna help in camera and performance but there's no major difference in gaming. I'm using kernel 3.0x by Arco/I vendor and the kernel only made cm9 back to stage 1, where camera is not working

Don't be mad at me with your GIANT words I'm just saying how will 3.0x kernel help our phone. I only heard that it is an improved Linux and stuff like window xp to 7 but what is the major improvement when using? (P.S building kernels is way tougher than doing math)
Now I'm not sure where to post bugs, so I'll post here and in 1st dev 3d.

Improvemends made by an 3.0.X kernel:
arco68 said:
If someones wondering what improvements a 3.0 kernel will give us, I can list some.
Easier to implement bug fixes and security fixes to core kernel (since 2.6.35 kernel is EOL and won't receive any more updates).
Easier to implement new features.
Most probably working USB accessory and OTG support.
Native working USB drivers for ICS (not legacy support like now), which means MTP works flawlessly.
Easier to build a proper kernel for jellybean that has the required vsync stuff for full project butter.
Regarding camera, it will not provide any improvements in that area unfortunately - if we are able to get it working at all. That's because we don't have native userspace libraries for ICS, so it will still be using a HAL wrapper around the gingerbread libs.

This kernel will open a whole new page for us, don't think we are at stage 1 we are at stage 10 just by getting the kernel boot! This is a major improvment to our phone so please stay patiance and you will se how much diffrence it is betwen 2.x.x and 3.x.x

This ROM is now built using the latest linaro 4.7.4 toolchain and comes with my modified version of Bricked kernel (thanks showp1984) My kernel source can be found here.
The ROM is compatible with other aosp based kernels, but if they dont have mpdecision or thermald built in you should rename them by removing the -bck at the end of the file name. The 2 files are located in system/bin.
I have also added QuickBoot, this enables you to power the device on/off in 1-2 seconds and puts it into hibernation.
This can be disabled in developer settings.
The following are configurable in the init.d file 99kernel
DoubleTap2Wake
Sweepp2Wake
Sweep2Sleep
Magnetic on/off
Battery voltage mod
These are disabled by default. More options will be added soon.
To edit this file use any good root file explorer. It is system/etc/init.d/99kernel and is pretty self explanatory once you open it.
Make sure permissions are set to rwx r-x r-x after editing.

I've made a few changes to the device trees and to allow them to build I have posted my source complete with a local manifest for thos who would like to build ROM for themselves.
You can view my work by clicking here.
If you would like to build this ROM just run the following comand to import my local manifest (after you have set up the build environment and performed a repo init ofcoarse).
You can fin a guide for your device Here
Code:
wget -O ~/android/system/.repo/local_manifests/bruce2728_manifest.xml https://raw.github.com/bruce2728/local_manifest/kitkat-mr0/bruce2728_manifest.xml
Once you have done that simply run a 'repo sync' to pull in my repos.
If you use any of this to make your own ROM please let me know and give me a mention in your thread.
Donations are always welcome but in no way required.
If you would like to donate please follow this link. Thank you.

This Rom is incredible. I use it on Flo & Mako, it is perfect, I use custom kernels (Bulletproof on FLo & Hell on Mako) and I have zero issues so far.
Initially I had gapps FC, its easy to fix, Go to settings-apps-all apps- click three dot menu - select "reset app preferences" - no more gapps fc after that
The rom is perfect, Cyanogenmod Goodness+ART+Custom Kernels, what else you want?
thanks for your rom.
Seems like there is an issue with bookmarks sync adapter, causing the gapps process to FC. This is related to ART on all CM11/AOSP roms i've tried so far.
I know that whatsapp was patched to work with ART, does titanium backup works?
Update: nevermind just read Bruce's post, looks like I can now try ART

This is a 100% pure stock kernel with write protection removed. I recompiled it with the write protection option disabled. There are NO OTHER CHANGES to the HTC code.
Info
Note: Breaks exFAT! HTC booby trapped the code! Use Fat 32 and you will be ok
V2 Change - Added the rest of the stock modules so you can jump to and from any kernel.
This is not a module to disable write protection. This is an actual rebuild of source.
The only change made was a changing a yes to a no to disable the write protection.
This is ONLY for Verizon base 1.55.506.2
The RAM Disk also grants ADB as root and supports init.d if busybox is installed in the /xbin folder.
Built with HTC recommend tool chain of gcc 4.6
Big thanks to @flar2 for advising me on what I need to disable.
Feel free to use this as you will for any reason you see fit.

When I say stock, I dont mean stock from HTC but compiled as pure stock from HTC source with zero changes to the code other than the disabling of write protection which is not actually in the code, its in the config. Unless of course you consider the config part of the code. Which in that case there is one code change and that is in the config
I just want to re-iterate that this is just for a Verizon based 1.55.506.2 ROM. You must have proper stock modules installed. If you installed a custom kernel for another build you may have issues.
Once again, this is for a stock build 1.55.506.2 Verizon ROM!
ill give it try on 1.54.401.5 base its a no go, alot FC
lol. Nice!
wait is that nice because i was dumb enough to even try

i knew people would probably still ask you even though you posted a disclaimer like 3 times, so i thought i would try it so it could be said that it was tested and etc etc :crying:
This is the kernel included in your clean Rom? I want to try a different kernel but like to have the stock ready so I don't have to reflash the whole Rom

No the kernel in CleanROM is the HTC compile kernel from the same source.
This kernel (I downloaded the source and made the Write Protect edit) compiled it myself.
This kernel does not include the WiFi module. Make sure if you have flashed another kernel the WiFi module did not get over written.
I am going to upload a new version tonight that will add in the stock WiFi module; My initial intent was only to be used on a stock based ROM not as a fall back for kernel hopping. But I will add the extra stock modules so it can be used as a fall back kernel as well. Then everyone will be happy ;c)
Nice, I was looking for a stock recovery flashable kernel with WP removed on the latest 1.55.605.2 base. Awesome. Thanks for this!
I just updated the download link to Version 2.
Version 2 includes the stock modules from the stock ROM so you can completely jump back and forth from one kernel to another and not have to worry about any modules not being over written correctly. :good:

Hehehe! Soon!
Thanks allot for adding the modules... Now I can start playing with kernels again... Hopefully someone will figure out the exFAT issue other than faux and stock all kernels lose my 64gb sdcard
There seems to be something missing from the v2 kernel that isn't in clean Rom kernel... I lost my 64gb card after flashing back

The CleanROM kernel is the actual HTC Built kernel.
If this is missing exfat I will just need to recompile it again with the ex-fat option turned on. Not a huge deal.
