Small android media player (or cheap phone) suggestions? - General Topics

I'm babying my new HTC One as you'll hardly be surprised to know... I do use it for music walking around, in the car, at home. But I need another player for when I'm on my motorcycle (with earpods not speakers). Ideally I'd like something running android. I've seen a few Samsung ones but know little about them. It would be really cool to have one powerful enough to throw the odd rom on every now and then. Any suggestions? Thanks.
Also noticed some cheap smartphones. That would work too if they're compact...the more upgradable/tinkerable, the better.

Maybe a nexus S? Don't know if it's powerful enough but for media only it's more than sufficient and there's loads of roms available for it.

Which android phone has the most active developers?

My next android phone will the one that has the most active developers/hackers. Your hardware is only as good as the software it runs. There is no point in buying a phone if hardly anything is being developed for it. I want greatest selection in rom's and apps. Which handset should I go for?
i've got a nexus one, and there are quite a large selection of roms, themes and apps. And its got pretty impressive hardware and looks stunning. I've got one, and love it.
I would say just being what it is and know that the nexus 1 is awesome. Get a nexus s. Or get a evo shift. I have one and its a quick little bugger

Any Nexus phone would probably have the most developers.

xda-stats
It would be nice if xda would post stats like this.
I know newer versions of phpbb have this feature.
Most active topics, most active posters, etc.
The gs2. I don't think the galaxy nexus even has as many devs as they do.

The HTC HD2. Even after more than 2,5 years it is still one of the most popular device on XDA.
Hd2, the Vendetta of android phones...nothing can beat it, not for 2 years more..
It have got its own rules, the hard thing is finding a piece is hard, coz most of them are with devs and non will sell it till it have a hardware prob.

The problem with this is that the amount of developers change with every new device release. Never get a phone based on the number of developers that said phone has. You will learn that as soon as a new device is released alot of developers sell their current device to get the new one.
I so miss my here. But t-mobile sucks here. I think I'm going for a galaxy next time 5.3 inch screen sounds lovely.

The HD2 is a legend and will always hold a great geek factor. The nexus well that depends on how many jump ship. It will be OK for at least a year untilled Google releases the next version and then you will see development slow on the device.

Galaxy S2 or Motorola Xoom

My friend is speaking in my ear that GS2 is way better than Xoom, I tell him no, another friend (Galaxy S2, Xperia X10 and iPad 2 user/ passive Xoom user because I let him use) tell no too, so let's proof my friend he is wrong.
He says the awesome ppl says that, but no one is more awesome than XDA, so please post here with your opinion and why

I agree, what is better for you depends on your need. I have both, and find the xoom more indispensable and definitely better for web surfing, email, calendar work, and the periodic movie. You just can't beat the real estate (screen size). If phone calls or texting are top priority, then SGS2 is your choice. It is a great phone and I love it, but the screen is too small for heavy work. If you need everything and truly must rely on one device, I'd recommend the international version of the samsung note. I'm actually waiting on one that will replace my SGS2... just want more screen to make it more useful. The international version has the same internal hardware as the SGS2, and is nearly as fast (a bit slower due to pushing more pixels).

[SUGGEST] Buying my first Android!

Hello everybody,
I will buying my first android very soon and my budget is of INR 25,000 = 451.811 USD = 358.611 EUR
The prices are to be considered for unlocked devices.
Requirements:-
I would prefer ICS on it. It won't matter wether it comes preloaded or an update would be available afterwards.
It should have a front facing camera as now it is a requirement for me.
If possible suggest dual core smartphones.
The back camera should be minimum of 5 Mega-pixel with flash.
I would also prefer such phones which have developer community support.
It is preferable to have phones of Sony, HTC or Samsung as I don't trust other companies much.
My List:-
Sony Xperia P
I have heard it is a good phone but it's battery life may be shorter & I have also heard that due to the new white pixel techonlogy of Sony battery life is not a big problem as it consumes less power.
HTC Sensation
It is great phone but it was released last year and I have heard so may issues relating to it such as Death grip, unresponsive touch screen, poor battery life, improper viewing angles.
Suggestions are welcome but please see to it that it meets my list of requirements.

Sorry mate.
Post updated. Actually I use currency converter plugin that caused the problem while posting.
If that's the Indian rupee, $448 can get you a SGS3 if only it were available in India.. there's always buying it somewhere online and having it shipped to your country as an option.
If not, there's the Galaxy Nexus that I would recommend second.
I'd never recommend an HTC, due to in part that sense is nonsense. What's the point of going to a dev community with a sense phone if the #1 motif will be REMOVING Sense? Lol. I'd avoid HTC altogether. The beats by dre sound is a joke, just overpowered bass. Get Samsung, then combine it with voodoo sound.
Don't make the mistake of getting an SGSII though.

What about the HTC One like was suggested? From everything I've read it looks amazing (great screen, great camera). Then again, idk of that falls into the price range either.

You're gonna love it to bits, but at the same time you're really gonna hate the wash-out effect of camera flash and also wouldn't appreciate the fact that the area that gives you the leverage to push down on the power button happens to contain your volume rocker :/
I've seen several reviews. Just want to get some first-hand use experiences from real user. also I'd like to know some infomration about the third-party ROM information, for example, Open WebOS and Ubuntu

I've had it since the end of January.
It's really fast and there's a lot of support in the forums. I have a case on it and the glass hasn't shattered from drops. Really good build quality IMO.
Battery life is much better on a custom kernel. I'm using latest nightly of Franco Kernel and haven't had any issues with it.

Nexus 4!
I used to think my dual core HTC Sensation was fast before I got my N4, geez, there is NO comparison. Apps install and start quickly, multitasking is great. I run Torque to monitor my car and it runs smooth on the N4.
The 720p display is great, I use the Logmein app to remotely control PCs that I support. The high resolution makes life easier. Videos look great too.
I use the MyBat Tuff Case and it handled a 4.5' drop with no damage. It made the phone too big for my belt holster so I had to find a larger holster. Send me a PM if you can't find my post on the holster.
The speakerphone is just okay, my Sensation works a bit better.
HD video recording is good, better than my other phones. Skype runs about as well as on my PC, again, better than any of my other phones and at higher resolution.
Battery life is okay, mine lasts all day. There's an app called battery guru that helps.
The ONLY thing I don't like is the fixed storage. I cut my music library down to about 900 songs. :crying:
I use the Nexus 4 Toolkit to side load, install ROMs, whatever. It makes life easier and it just plain works. If you use it, buy the programmer a beer, I did!
You can't find a better quad core phone for the same price in my opinion. :good:
Thanks for sharing, I placed the order today. May need one or two weeks

HTC ONE S upgrade

Hey everyone. A sad time indeed. My 1yr old doing his exploring has thrown my beloved one s down the stairs and broke her the case cracked open and some insides were broken. Only faults I can find so far are that my sound no longer works. Speaker nor headset so I am looking to replace her. I bought her the first day T-Mobile released the one s and loved her since having rooted her and running a great 4.2.2 ROM on her since she never left ICS.
Though it brings me to near tears to ask this, does anyone have any recommendations for a new phone? I heard something about a new HTC one series and other thoughts are nexus 4 and galaxy s4. I prefer top of the line devices but easy to root and good ROM supports are a must.

I've narrowed it to either the Nexus 4 or the SG3 if I don't decide to just replace my One S Lol. I really am in love with this phone.

It completely depends on your preference. Hardware is constantly evolving and so are options. You say you love your one s but you need to ask yourself what you love about it. If you love the comfortable sense feeling, you could look into the new htc one, though sense 5 is a vast difference from previous versions. If you want the best hardware on the market go with the s4. If you like the smaller size check out the nexus 4. Personally, I would recommend the S4. Guaranteed huge rom support and as top of the line as you could get this year. Do some research and see what fits you. Im a Note 2 user of about 3 months and love it more every day.

If you can wait a little longer Google will announce the new Motorola X series, perhaps this can be of promise as well.

If you want build quality (emphasis - it is stunning), like HTC's sense rom, want the beats audio/boomsound, and maybe other things I definitely would recommend the HTC One. Even with my perfect-condition One S was contemplating the switch to the One but decided to save money. Since you want a new phone, there's nothing stopping you! The phone is also slightly larger at 4.7" (whereas the One S is 4.3").
Let us know what you choose.
Edit: Awkward didn't realize you had actually bought the Nexus 4 already. Great quality build budget phone that is on the smaller side too. (Just a little outdated as the Nexus 5 is being anticipated but it will still get quick android updates).
