omap4boot for P940 (Prada 3.0)
This is a modified version of the omap4boot work done by wkpark (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1971014).
This version is designed especially for the P940 to allow fastboot access. A (signed) Clockworkmod recovery is included. This allows you to easily root the device from the recovery and/or flash custom roms.
No need for installing any LG driver/tool crap for rooting.
Furthermore this version works for both Windows and Linux (drivers for Windows included).
Download builds
How this works
Download and extract omap4boot-for_prada.tar.gz
(Windows only) Pull the battery and attach an usb cable to your device. In device manager an OMAP4430 device will show up briefly. Hurry up and right-click > update driver software and install the drivers from the usb_drv_windows directory included in the archive.
Execute start_fastboot.bat (Windows) or start_fastboot.sh (Linux)
Follow the instructions shown.
(optional) Boot into recovery by holding CAMERA + VOLUME DOWN + POWER and do stuff: root your installed rom via a special update.zip tailored for the p940 (http://milaq.net/downloads/android/p940/p940_root_stock_su3.1.3.zip), install a custom rom, etc.
Celebrate
CAUTION: Use this with care! Don't do anything else in fastboot, except you know what you are doing. With this your device is practically unbrickable but you can erase partitions the device needs to work properly. You have been warned.
And as always: I take no responsibility whatsoever for raging, screaming, crying, frustration, failing, confusion, dead kittens, etc.

Is it normal that there are no files in "usb_drv_windows\amd64\" directory?
Is it normal that omap device appears only for few(1-2) seconds and then disappear? or this is my device problem, maybe to small power from usb port?

yes, that's normal. you have to be very quick. but once they're installed there is no need to do it again.
or just use linux, no driver installation required there.

Hi, I have a bit of trouble with P940, could you please help me XDA?
I can connect when I start-fastboot.bat, however when I choose that I want to install custom recovery, the script hangs on waiting for device.
Prada shows fastboot v 0.5. I tried all the circusy things with drivers, now I am using fresh WIN7x64 install and with cables. Any help? (I have fresh V20D, but also ADB is not working - it stops on device (num) offline.)
you probably need to install fastboot drivers. use the generic ones from the android-sdk.
if you are booted into fastboot and are connected via usb your device should show up in the device manager as "lg p2 device" or such

after 42 reboot it cought up and installed recovery! Thanks a lot. Now just realize root through cwm...
Maybe a stupid question. Can I use this way to root an stock 4.04 p940 and have then root rights and cwm? And is cwm then always accessible via the phone key combination on the phone to flash your custom roms, make nandroids...
I'm familiar with S1 and S2 but the P940 sounds always way more complicated for me and it is my daughters phone. She will kill me if I would damage it Actually she has often trouble with no network and with SMS so I thought this wat to root and got cwm + using milaq's 10.1 ROM could be a good solution. I also need to know if the Prada look and feel will stay in 10.1 then.

yip, this will enable you to flash an - already included - recovery. you can then root the installed stock rom via the generic superuser package quoted in OP or flash custom roms, etc.

if you keep to the description and only flash the recovery and leave all other partitions alone, you are safe to do so. but be sure you have read everyting in the OP and are aware of any potential risk, although the p940 is practically unbrickable (if you dont do anything real fuzzy).

better off in the respective thread but nevertheless: you wont have the prada ui but stock aosp resp. cm flavour. but you can use the inbuilt theme function to make it look like the prada ui (black/white).

Ja, Finally, my LG P940 has one recovery and real fastboot. Danke milaq
Dear Milaq,
After backed-up and restore, I saw clockworkmod work incorrect, because Prada has 2 partition involve system
_for mounting at /system
_for moutong at /system/app
Clockworkmod defaut mount 1 partition at /system, it doesnt mount partition at /system/app. So, backup will not work properly when I restore.
Please fix it

Just a tip I forget to share. While flashing on win7 64bit I stuck in the fast boot screen. As solution I open the device manager again and let the device reload the driver. Once this was done the process immediately continue until the end with no more problems.

Installed stock ICS V20D, then CWM via fastboot with no problems but rooting (installing a flashable zip with su, busybox and superuser.apk) does not seem to work...
Looks like a custom bootloader might be needed....
Therefore the walhalla method included some patched bin (a piece of ROM)
because lg decided to have a system2 partition mounted to /system/app.
su package installed just fine but the superuser.apk doesnt get used because of the mounts. try "su" in a shell and you will see that rooting went just fine. you can then manually push superuser.apk to /system/app

Does manually mean copy/paste with root browser, using adb/ fastboot command ??
Root checker says I'm rooted but some apps like Root Browser and Root App Delete say I do not have a proper root access
Maybe it's sth to do with permissions ? Also I noticed busybox is missing ..
I used Superuser by Koush flashable .zip

Well, for me root access worked fine after
1. flashing the rooting update.zip, which was posted by milaq in the first post and
2. flashing the Superuser-3.1.3-arm-signed.zip (http://androidsu.com/superuser/)
So maybe something of these two zips is unnecessary, but at least it is simple and should work
i just wanna ask,, will this work to stock gingerbread? or should i update first to icecreamsandwich?

So i have taken alot from this community, as in information. I've asked alot of questions and used alot of peoples help and software so i thought it was time to give back to the community and since i have no knowledge of coding(gonna self teach from google/youtube) i decided to make a guide for people new to the O3D or just someone who hasn't figured the potential of there O3D.
*Note*:
These are my preferences so if you don't like it don't add it please don't complain*
If you are having issues with a particular part you can request help on this thread but you should find the thread about what your having issues with first and ask there(i will link all my sources in this post)*
Got something to add? post it here on this thread or send me a pm with details and i can add it to the guide*
*This guide assumes you have a phone running on gingerbread
MANBEARPIG'S Guide To A Joyful Time With Your LG optimus 3D(p920)
1.Rooting your phone
**** Rooting your phone can brick phone if your are careless****
*The most easy way to root your phone is by downloading the file here: http://vulnfactory.org/blog/2012/02/26/rooting-the-lg-thrill-optimus-3d/
***Unfortunately i dont know of a way to root your phone if your using a mac so i can't help you there***
*Now once you have downloaded the file extract it (using winrar or a similar program) to the destination of your choice and open the folder called: "megatron_windows" now make sure your phone is connected via usb and mass storage is turned off. Now run the application called "adb" it should be done within a few seconds.
*after you've installed adb click on the windows batch file

}
now hit ANY key and wait a few minutes and voila your phone is now rooted
*****if you are having trouble users have reported that having to many maps installed stops the root process working*********
Now for those who don't know what rooting is, it is basically needed for everything i will be doing,But in short it just allows the user to have full access of their phone.
2.Roms & Kernels
*This is probably the biggest customization of your phone and if you follow these steps you will have no problems. Roms & kernels are basically someone else's version of android software eg. they can change what the notifiaction bar looks like and port over other phones UI.*Note a rom and kernel are two different things a good description can be found here:http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=ROM-VS-Kernel
*okay so step one is installing Rom Manager it is a needed tool and you can download the free version off the play store(no need to buy premium as everything needed to be done can be done on the free app).now once you have installed this app and you open it you will see a menu click on "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery:
Now towards the end of the download a littlebox will pop up asking for superuser access(this is asking root access so it can edit files within your phone) tick remember and click allow
****Ok so some users are saying that flashing it using rom manager doesn't work for them so i would suggest using this(i dont want to put it all here as it is not my work): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1482713
ok so now we have rom manager organized we will do a backup in case anything goes wrong. your will find this option on the main menu on the tab called backup current rom(this is in case anything goes wrong during the proccess of installing a new rom you can go back to your backup) if you have an external sd card in your phone you can go in settings and change it so when you backup your rom it saves on your external sd card.now click backup rom and your phone sohuld shut off and turn back on entering 'recovery mode' it should then automatically start backing up all your stuff once it is done, using the volume keys to go up and down and the search button to click it, click on 'reboot phone'.
*Ok now you have backed up your stuff you are ready to install roms and kernels.
Everyone has there own preferences so im going to link some roms here each have there own features i preferably like to keep it stock but a lot more faster and less lg and Google stuff.
check out these links and download the file you want or files if you want to try a few out.(i will get to kernels after roms).
***when downloading roms you will need the right rom depending on your software version, you can find this under settings/about phone and look under software version and look at the letter and number combo eg. V20e or v21D and then download a matching rom to your software version.
Some Roms:
Meemo's Roms:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1569029
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1570937(my favourite)

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1571251
Pandaball's modded cyanogenmod

Thiaiz Roms

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1520673
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1462991
Kamfbestie's roms
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1441506
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1605213
so there is some roms, i have not included every single one but here is a few be sure to check out the O3D android development section to find other roms not listed, also please thank all the developers if you liked their roms and if you loved their rom donate to them they out a lot of effort into it.
*Okay now to installing the rom:
open up rom manager and hit install rom form sdcard and fin the place you downloaded your rom (dont unzip the file the rom came in) and click on it.
it will then give you three things oyu can choose, click: wipre data and cache and wipe dalvik cache also click backup existing rom if you havn't dont so already.
*after you hit ok your phone should enter recovery and should automatically start wiping the data and installing the rom, once its done hit reboot phone.
if your phone gets stuck on lg logo or doesn't reboot it means that either the installation failed or something in the rom's zip is missing or could be some kind of incompatibility, if this happens you can turn off your phone then hold the volume down button + power button till the lg logo shows then your phone will enter recovery and you can restore your backup.I cannot help you with any issues faced to do with incompatibility.
ok so once your phone has rebooted depending on what romm you downloaded you might not notice any changes straight away although later down the path you might notice some changes in speed and ram etc.
Installing Kernels
*kernels differ from roms as they provide performance tweaks such as overclocking the processor or gpu and can be applied on top of compatible roms.NOTElease check the rom you installed is compatible with different kernels.
There is not many kernels to choose from as many roms have kernels installed with them but here is the most popular kernel:
Samno's kernel:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1547319
**NOTE:if you have decided to use meemos DNA rom and you have v20e software like me so you downloaded his RTL(right to left) version it says that it is incompatible with other kernels, but i have managed to run samnos titan kernel for V21d just fine on it**
*installing the kernel:
installing the kernel is exactly the same as a rom except when you choose to install rom form sdcard and you click on it dont click wipe data or dalvik cache but you should backup your rom just in case of any incompatibilities.
OverClocking Guide
*This is not my work, i do not know who originally found this i am just writing down the information people have shared with me,sorry if there is already a guide about it,it just seems lost as its not on the first few pages and lots of people are asking about it.*
Before we begin make sure you have a kernel that supports overclocking modules,i use titan kernel as it is a stable and fast kernel.
*also make sure your phone is rooted*
Download the file here:
http://db.tt/ApM2BzbV
Now using a root file explorer/manager take out the files symsearch.ko and opperator.ko and place them at /system/lib/modules
Now to overclock you use a terminal emulator and type: (this is an example to overclock at 1.3ghz change the 3 to a 4 for 1.4ghz
su
echo 1300000000 > /proc/opperator
And now your phone should be opperating at 1.3ghz
*after every reboot to overclock it again you must type this again*
A simple app is available here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1592110
Which does all the code in a nice GUI
3.Some kool apps to download
WARNING:Some apps may be illegal in your country

"please use this app responsibly i mean i use it on my friends iphones and stuff, just please don't go screwing around with someone else's WiFi without their permission Download: http://www.mediafire.com/?4a361cgp7l34buy

For rooting your phone, there's no need to "install" ADB since it's not an installable package. You can just execute run.bat straightaway without double clicking ADB. You'll need the ADB drivers for your phone before executing run.bat, and you'll also need to enable debugging on your phone (settings > applications > development > USB debugging)
Also, for flashing CWM, I highly recommend not using ROM Manager as it sometimes recognises the P920 as the Optimus 2x which is not compatible with the P920. If someone flashes the Optimus 2x recovery on a P920, bad things will happen. I would suggest using this to flash instead: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1482713

Yes many people bricked their O3Ds by flashing recovery through ROM Manager (especially the previous version).
Much safer way is to flash recovery with the tool pandaball suggested or with two other tools that can flash any recovery (CWM, CWM Touch, Stock) you want.

V18A baseband

P925:

You could add one detail to the rooting part of the guide, if you have to many apps installed megatron will fail.
It took me way to long to figure that out after flashing V21E kdz, a factory reset solved that but I hesitated because with no root titanium backup would be useless.

Clockwork-mod recovery for Motorola XT530/531 and XT532.
Code:
You've already messed up with your phone.
Now if something happens don't point your finger to me.
All I can do is to laugh at you, as loud as possible.
So always keep in mind that you do changes by your choice.
Thank YOU
After 7amdoun's successful finish on fixing bootmenu bugs, I proudly present the easiest way to have bootmenu on these phones.
First of all check out that you have all the things required :
1. A Motorola XT530/XT531 or XT532.
2. Must be rooted.
3. If you don't know how to root. Check out here [Thanks to 008Rohit]
4. A PC.
If you are done with above things you can proceed further.
There are two ways to get bootmenu on your device
First
Steps are very simple :
1. Just download "Bootmenu_v2.0.2.zip" and extract it.
2. Double Click "Bootmenu Installer.bat"
3. And follow the onscreen instructions.
Second:
[Special thanks to andrewidya for making the .apk]
Either refer to the installation video made by andrewidya
OR
This is easier way, you ought to have busybox installed:
1. Download the "Recovery Installer_1.0.apk" file from the attachment.
2. Install it on your phone.
3. Open "Recovery Installer" from App drawer
4. Tap "Install Recovery"
5. You've CWM installed.
You are DONE
Congratulations, You are now having Custom Recovery in your phone.
Using Bootmenu:
Turn Off your phone.
Switch on the phone. While you see the "M" logo the soft buttons leds will light up.
Be quick enough to press the Volume down(-) button as you see the leds being lighted.

Touch will not work in bootmenu.
Use volume keys to navigate and power key to select.

Give your recovery dump.
Or you can do it on your own it's too simple.
1. Dump your recovery
2. Go to builder.clockworkmod.com
3. upload the img there.
Have some tea or coffee and it will get ready soon.
Download the files and you are done.

Only that service center people will not accept it if you are not from brazil. And network switching might have problems.

Here's a slightly improved bootmenu (with one important variable fix for the XT530).
Try selecting 2nd-init in bootmenu and tell me what happens.
BTW, are you able to unmount /system partition once you load CWM?

There is a manual option somewhere in CWM to unmount /system. Try it and see if it works.
Also, using the new bootmenu I uploaded, try selecting 2ni-init and see if phone boots normally (without ADB).

Error ! unmounting /system
BTW, andrewidya figured out how to get the normal OS to boot without ADB , he needs some time.
And he is building installer script for bootmenu
Edit : Why people are not able to boot in bootmenu? Have I done something wrong?

Hey Guys
All your wait is over.
Here I'll tell you how to get CWM for Moto Fire XT.
Disclaimer : I'm not responsible for any damage to your phone. I have tried it and finished successfully.
Try only if you know little bit about android.
Required things
1. Rooted Fire XT
2. Pc
Download these things on your phone:
1. Terminal emulator
2. Busybox(Open it and install)
3. Root browser
4. Pimp my Rom
You can find all of them in the Play Store.
If you have done with it download the attachment.
Now main work.
It is not easy though but I think everyone can do it.
Steps:
1. Extract the attachment and copy it to your sdcard
2. Mount /system as RW.
3. Open Root Browser and copy bootmenu folder from sdcard/XT530 and paste it in /system.
4. Open /system/bin and locate to logwrapper
5. Rename it as logwrapper.bin
6. Open Terminal Emulator and type:
Code:
su
ln -s /system/bootmenu/binary/bootmenu /system/bin/logwrapper
sync
exit
exit
7. Open Pimp My Rom and Add universal init.d support.
8. Copy /sdcard/XT530/97bootmenu and paste it in /system/etc/init.d .
9. Change permissions of 97bootmenu to rwx r-- r--
10 . Reboot your phone.
Now your phone will start at bootmenu.
Select Recovery>Custom Recovery
PS: If you want to get back the phone to boot normally. Just connect it to PC, open CMD and type
cd path-to-adb.exe
adb shell
rm -R /system/etc/init.d/97bootmenu
exit
adb reboot
I succeeded here's the video:

Sorry for poor camera quality.
Thanks to all the members.
Special Thanks to:
Gentrylamp for creating bootmenu.
7amdoun for his great knowledge and modding bootmenu for XT530.
andrewidya for correcting me at every point.
Mazen.kh for everything he did.
Mr.Indigo for giving us hopes.
And all other members whom I forgot to mention here.
If you face any problem you can ask me anytime.
Now I'm building a custom Rom and will finish soon.
Give your ideas to make it look better.

after d last step when i rebooted...my mob booted as normal...it didnt show any recovery mode...
Ok everybody I think 97bootmenu is the problem.
Solution :
Create 97bootmenu manually.
Steps:
1.Open /system/etc/init.d
2. Create a file, name it 97bootmenu.
3. Open the file as text
Type:
Code:
#!/system/bin/sh
stop
exec /system/bootmenu/binary/bootmenu
4. repair permissions.
5. Restart your phone and tell me the situation.
how!?
i tried ... same situation. .

And will release it correctly soon.
CONFIRMED WORKING ON XT535 currently backing up Via CWM. Backup complete. Problems are: have no backlight in CWM. when scrolling down with the volume keys the text moves across to the middle. Many thanks guys! info: /system/ is not manually unmountable in CWM, and selecting 2nd init on recovery, the phone hangs at the boot. Be sure to check correct permissions mine didnt work the first time because of perms on 97bootmenu

Did you install the MediaTek drivers from the link above? Make sure you dont have the phone connected in the PDANet+ (Right click on the System Tray icon and click on disconnect. Also make sure you have USB debug enabled, under Settings->Developer Options.
If all the above fail try restarting the system and try to connect the phone to a different USB port on your computer.

Vodafone Smart first 6* NL *(EU) Rooting and More!
Done & Closed! After a wild chase finding the correct tools and apk's this took me 2 days to complete an fully rooted and Simlock free Vodafone branded Smart Firt 6.
Most of the files can be downloaded from below here on XDADISCLAIMER:
Rooting your phone and using custom Recoveries and ROM's have risks and may Void your warranty and can result in bricking your device, and has nothing to do with Google or the device manufacturers. In case of any mishap I am not responsible if you brick/ruin your phone in any way.
Basic computer skills are required and minimal knowledge about the phone and phone utilities also.
Make sure that whatever you do, you are doing it at your own responsibility.
It may be that you get an *softbrick *(bootloop) because Vodafone still pushing update's for their Firmware patching and upgrading the software!
To be safe please use methods given by: Androrooter and or Kirito9 !
#Rooting:
1# Download the root.apk onto your phone or SD card and install.
2# Now start the app and you will see it's all in Chinese, just click on the Root Shield Badge ontop of the screen.
3# Let it do its magic installing the scripts most likely it will auto reboot your phone without rooting it,
you must restart the root app again and click on the Badge (like done at step 2#).
~Now you are Rooted but the Superuser is Chinese and what i have noticed it's a temporary Root, if you lose root again just redo step 2#!
4# Download and install SuperSu-2.46 now launch an root app most likely the Chinese app will popup granting
for root permission, you must click on the colored (grant) button to accept.
5# Download an Root browser i.e. File Manager and let it gain Root permission, if SuperSu wont ask for Root it's now save to uninstall the Chinese app.
~From now on you permanently Rooted, don't go installing/modding stuff yet until you made an systems backup!
#Twrp or Cwm Recovery (PC version):
1# Download ADB Driver and install on PC. Download from here; http://www.datafilehost.com/d/2267ab98
2# Download TWRP Setup (thanks to Dees_Troy & Yuweng) and unzip on your PC.
3# Activate USB debugging under developer mode* and connect with USB to your PC.
(done by *tapping 7 times on the build number in the about phone section)
3a# Open the Twrp setup.exe and click on the next button.
3b# Just wait till the installation is completed followed by credits.
3c# On the next window, click on yes to proceed.
3d# Select Start Easy Magic TWRP Installer for MediaTek and click on ok
3e# Click on Yes to auto port.
3f# Now make sure your phone is connected, adb driver installed and usb debugging enabled, then click on OK.
~if you get any pop up msg on your phone screen just click on yes.
Just wait for a few seconds while the setup is been completed,
if the process was successful, your phone should automatically reboot into recovery.
~Now you need to make an full backup with Twrp so that all the files are safe!
#More Updates following Soon! To be safe please use methodes given by: Androrooter and or Kirito9 !

Kingroot 4.8 worked, so I ran the TWRP Setup and guess what another way to ruin the phone even further. Stuck in a boot loop now.
STAY AWAY FROM THIS GUYS GUIDE! It will most likely break your phone from start to finish!
Please provide a reset copy of your system.img and recovery.img for people who have lost their phones due to this guide, it would be very useful as the devices can be restored if adb / fastboot access can be achieved.

Well well QuantumRevenger,
Sorry to hear that this method didn't worked out nicely for you.
Maybe your firmware got upgraded and the recovery didn't stick?!
Did you try the combination Power + Vol Up while the phone is off and enter

I can't help you with the systems files because i ditched the vodafone firmware for Vanilla 4.4.2 Android.
The only thing i can do for you is point to this thread where i moved towards myself-> MTK devices
Here you will learn an little how your MTK device works, also you can search XDA for an different Easy Magic TWRP or CTR or even Philz!

Hello RHodgett,
It most likely would work because this model bought by Vodafone for their (EU) market.
As we all know it's a cheap china phone suited for Vodafone requirements!
~Not speaking for the firmware updates they push once an while~
But rooting can be done very easy with the given root from my post or even now with the updated
Kingroot 4.8 said by QuantumRevenger. And like for the custom recovery it can get tricky mentioned by QuantumRevenger, i had no problem with this at that moment.
But i urge you to read my answer to QuantumRevenger problem from above, after that you can decide at your own risk.

Good Luck!
Thanks, I'll give this a go when the handset arrives in a few days and report back.
Can you explain how to then install the Vanilla 4.4.2 Android firmware? (or any other suitable stock firmware for the device)

No Problem & you're welcome!,
For flashing roms you need an custom recovery otherwise you can't Flash.
Nobody here is tailoring for our Vodafone branded(China) smart first 6 so you have to go where i send QuantumRevenger towards and where i am. (See post answering QuantumRevenger).
Here you can use the roms and learn more about our MTK devices in general.
For flashing roms you must install in the recovery as an zip file and then you're done!
MTK has other methodes to install but that's for advance users only.
Enjoy
&
Goodluck.
Hi, I've root using the Chinese apk and root checker says the device is rooted but I wasn't able to install SuperSU 2.46, it keeps saying the binaries need to be updated and it fails every time I update.
Rebooting using the TWRP setup just shows the Powered by android splash. I'm not sure what to do now?
Edit: Ok I've flashed a recovery from the threads you linked, finally got a bootloader working. Now to flash a ROM Got CM12.1 running, thanks!
DID not work for me
So I followed all the steps and everything seemed to work fine. The TWRP software said it was going to reboot into recovery but it is stuck at the android logo screen.
When I hold power button + up key its the same, stuck at the android screen.
When I hold power button + down key it boots into vodafone android.
I'm kind of stuck to what to do now (sorry I am really new to this)?

Darn that's a bummer! It worked for me and had everything running xposed, SuperSu etc. :/
Try another Magic installer use CWM or Phillz, they can be found here or via google.
So weird i bet Vodafone did a firmware push on there bootloader or not all EU firmwares are the same(dat would be pretty nonlogical).
Sorry for the troubles please try the above solution and report back if that fixed it.

Hello Onlydongles,
for root you can use kingroot 4.8 or the given Root apk from above.
Just install like any app for Android and follow the instruction.

That's the problem. SiInce the file is in ZIP format, downloading into the SD card and then doing the Power+Vol up, and update from SD zip, gives me an aborted message.
Putting the Zip file in the Phone memory (not the sd card) just doesn't open the file, saying format not supported.(casue it is ZIP)
What am I missing? please help with a step by step idiots guide, if you can .

The root is an normal APK there are only two zip files here; the TWRP and the SuperSu.
TWRP.zip is an magic installer for your PC with the given USB drivers and Debuging turned on(See my guide).
Now SuperSu.zip can only be installed via an custom recovery like TWRP.
I'm noticing you're trying to flash without an
custom recovery?, that's an no go.
1# Root with given or Kingroot 4.8.
2# Install custom recovery TWRP, CWM or Phillz (Must be an magic installer version via PC) all these versions can be found on Xda.
3# Flash SuperSu via custom recovery and replace the first installed Root!
That's all there is to it, no deeper layers on how-to install.
Enjoy

Good luck!
OK got it. THe only way I could get the APK into my phone is via the phones own browser from this site. I could only move from my pc as a ZIP file only. Hence could not install. But now its done. I think I am rooted now. Root checker still says not rooted, but I can use ES file explorer and have managed to remove a few app. Does this mean it is Rooted?
Can I remove the Rooting apk from the phone now without any adverse impact?
I have also managed to load the TWRP on the SD card. IF I want to Flash a rom, how do I go about it? Can you link and stable ROM which I can use? Need a small tutorial.
AND very many mahy thanks for your support on here and input.

Okay Onlydongles,
I don't think you have Root (yet!), Es browser has an side menu.
Here you must scroll down and select Root Explorer, that's the real test if you got Rooted!
If not install Kingroot 4.8 via your phone browser.
For ROMs you have to go where I send everybody towards ->MTK Devices (link given in answers above).
Flashing ROMs is easy done by custom recovery select the downloaded ROM zip and flash with the given creator instructions B).

Good luck!

How's CM12.1 running for you? Everything working OK?
This is a very nice budget tablet from Tablet Express. I found mine on eBay for $93.00, new + free shipping, and have been very pleased with it. I love that it came with Developer Options already on, had USB Debugging enabled right out of the box, and has a screen protector installed by the manufacturer. Add the fact that the bootloader isn't even locked, and you really can't go wrong with this device.
I used the AIO TWRP Compiler script by @yuweng, to build this recovery, it's a very efficient tool to work with and he put a lot of work into it. Many, many thanks there!!
Well, enough rambling, lets get started...
KNO'DIS: I, OR ANYONE ELSE AT XDA, WILL NOT BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR "BRICKING" YOUR TABLET!! IF YOU MANAGE TO MAKE A BRICK, DUE TO YOUR "FUN-DA-MENTAL" INABILITY TO READ, GO BUILD A BBQ PIT WITH IT!! (Or ask for help, there's a lot of friendly people around here)
Verify Partition Scheme
Over the past few months, it seems some devices have different names for the partition scheme, either "nand" or "mmcblk". So, the first step will be to check which type you have before installing TWRP and rooting the device. Here's how you check:
1) Connect the device to your PC, and open a terminal
2) Type the following:
Code:
# to make sure the device is recognized:
adb devices
# result should be:
List of devices attached
00000000000000000000 device
# Now type:
adb shell
# followed by:
ls -al /dev/block/by-name
# First Line should be 1 of the 2:
# This is a "mmcblk" device
lrwxrwxrwx root root 2016-07-20 00:08 UDISK -> /dev/block/mmcblk0p1
# This is a "nand" device
lrwxrwxrwx root root 2016-07-20 00:36 UDISK -> /dev/block/nandk
Once you know which device type you have, follow the below directions accordingly.
Root (Works for Android 4.4.4 and 5.1.1)
Rooting the device is easy, there are two methods that I know work:
1) Install TWRP, then flash Chainfires current SuperSu zip, find it Here (<-- recommend method)
2) Using Kingo Root for PC, find it Here (Use the Root Again option)
Install TWRP
You should already have ADB installed on your PC, or BusyBox and Terminal Emulator installed on your tablet, I will not cover installation of either of those. And you should know which type of mount partitions your device is using. To get the TWRP recovery on your device, you have a few options:
1) Use ADB to "push" the image (Android 4.4.4 and 5.1.1)
2) Use the included shell script, via BusyBox and Terminal Emulator (Android 5.1.1 and the device must already be rooted to use this option)
Download the appropriate zip for your device, located below, under Downloads, and extract it to a convenient location on your PC. If using your Tablet, the shell scripts and TWRP image must be in the root directory ( / ) to work properly.
Using ADB (Android 5.1.1) on "nand" partitions
Put the X10_twrp3.0.2.img file in the same directory as your working ADB, then enter the following:
Code:
adb push X10_twrp3.0.2.img /dev/block/nandf
#After it finishes:
adb reboot recovery
Now, flash the SuperSU flashable zip and your device will be rooted, yay!
That was easy, yes?
Using ADB (Android 5.1.1) on "mmcblk" partitions
Put the X10_twrp3.0.2.img file in the same directory as your working ADB, then enter the following:
Code:
adb push x10_twrp_mmc.img /dev/block/mmcblk0p9
#After it finishes:
adb reboot recovery
Now, flash the SuperSU flashable zip and your device will be rooted, yay!
That was easy, yes?
Using ADB (Android 4.4.4)*As of now, KK uses "nand" ONLY
This is the only way I could get it to work right on KitKat, sorry, no Terminal Emulator for this one...
Put the X10_twrp2.8.7.0.img file in the same directory as your working ADB, then enter the following, one line at a time:
Code:
adb push X10_twrp2.8.7.0.img /data/local/tmp
# Wait for it, then type:
adb shell
#Followed by:
dd if=/data/local/tmp/X10_twrp2.8.7.0.img of=/dev/block/nandf
#After it finishes:
reboot recovery
Now, flash the SuperSU flashable zip and your device will be rooted, yay!
That wasn't too bad, was it?
Using Terminal Emulator (Android 5.1.1 using "nand" ONLY)
Put the X10_twrp3.0.2.img and twrp.sh files in the root ( / ) folder of your tablet, then open the Terminal Emulator, enter the following, one line at a time:
Code:
su
sh twrp.sh
The script will tell you when it's done, now, power off the tablet. Boot into recovery by pressing and holding the Volume Down and Power Buttons. When the Dragon Touch logo appears, release the Power Button but continue to hold Volume Down until TWRP boots.
I hope you enjoy my work, and keep in mind that I like to keep things up to date, when a new version of TWRP comes out, I'll build it and post it here.

@NepoRood, great work! One suggestion, instead if using the PRODUCT_COPY_FILES, you can simply add DEVICE_RAMDISK_(DIRS|FOLDERS) += rootdir
I am sure the flag has dir rather than folder in its name, but you can easily confirm that from the thread and you have to use an absolute path for folder name, so include the device/vendor/codename also, before rootdir.

Thanks for more great advice, I've read the first page of the OP a dozen times or more, and never noticed that flag (until you pointed it out!). Would have saved a lot of typing, lol, I'll definitely use it for future projects :good:

Unfortunately, no, I've never had any luck building a ROM. However, I'm going to give it a shot with this tab (I might as well try, lol) IF, I come up with anything, it will be posted here.

Thank you for the offer my friend!
I've only tried to build for one device, well 2 actually, both RCA (MT8127), both failed miserably. Even though I got a "successful" build (ie: no errors/make completed) CM12.1 wouldn't boot. Come to find out, the zip and system.img had limited files, I can't remember which, but not enough for a complete rom
So, I decided to learn everything I could about building TWRP (thanks for your help with that too )
I'll pull all the vendor blobs from the X10 and try to put together the device tree for rom building and get back to you.
Thanks Again,
Nepo

RECOVERY_RAMDISK_DIRS += device/<vendor>/<codename>/ramdisk

I have downloaded and flashed all these images and I cannot get TWRP to work? I have installed Via Adb and Terminal, but it will not flash the recovery.
All I get is the factory recovery. I can confirm it pushed it to device, but will not work.
Can someone else verify.

If all you have is 3e recovery, then you're doing something wrong somewhere. Make sure the TWRP image is in the proper directory.
PC: should be in the same folder as your adb.exe file
Tablet: should be in root directory, which is just a backslash " / "
Please let me know how it goes

Yes Recovery is in the same Dir as ADB. It confirms being sent in the Adb Window to my booted Tablet.
Also if I use a Terminal app, it is also confirmed as being flashed, but I still get a 3e recovery? So strange.
Its driving me nuts lol..
Q:Should it work with any V5.1 Android Firm? I am using X10-HT-PW-V2-AL-5.1-20150115 from tabletexpress.
Can you confirm what version yours is working on please.
UPDATE... 5 Hours later.. I managed to flash the TWRP on Android V4.4 using Rashr. and when in recovery the screen is corrupted, unable to use? and Twrp is in Landscape mode. Shall try this method on V5.1.

Ok.. I used RASHR to install TWRP. A lot less hassle for people i recon matey. Plus it worked.....ADB refused to install lol...
It works ok on the Android V5,1, (X10-HT-PW-V2-AL-5.1-20150115) but unable to backup any partitions. The Twrp Log reports Unable to mount or find the partitions?
Plus you cannot boot the tablet again after rebooting out of twrp hehe..
Here is a Log File after Flashing a Image from PhoenixUSBPro. The Partitions are there View attachment PAXSTER.LOG So maybe TWRP does not know where they are ekk? Maybe it will help from the log file to sort his out? Im new to creating a Twrp File.

When building, I ran into problems of only TWRP booting, turns out it was an init.rc and recovery.fstab issue. But, I had that fixed for the final release I'm using the exact same firmware as you are, and TWRP works perfectly.
Could you attach your TWRP log?
