[PATCH][TUT]CMDefy to BMM Convertor - Motorola Atrix 2

So you want to flash a ROM in BMM which in it's OP says can't be flashed with BMM?
Let's get to it then BMM look for the 2nd-init files in /system/etc/rootfs. But the CMDefy boot menu keeps 2nd-init files in /system/bootmenu/2nd-init. So when you install BMM on ROMs( flashable only with CMDefy), the necessary ramdisk files cannot be found and your phone bootloops. The trick here is to copy the files to /system/etc/rootfs so that BMM finds it's files and everything boot up swell.
Now,I've already made a CWM Flashable zip for CM10.1,CM10,Magic Mod.Just flash the respective ROM in BMM and then flash the respective Patch.zip and you'll be good to go.
How To Make Your Own Patch.zip
I've also attached a SamplePatch.zip so that if you want you can make your own flashable Patch.zip.The zip already contains the updater-script which will do the work for you.All you have to do is go into the ROM zip which you want to patch copy the files from system/bootmenu/2nd-init and paste them in the SamplePatch.zip's system/etc/rootfs folder. That's it your Patch is created.
Happy Multi Booting.
As always take a nandroid backup just in case.
Installation:
1.Boot into BMM Recovery.
2.Choose the system you want.
3.Wipe data/cache.
4.Flash ROM(Don't reboot yet)
5.Flash Respective BMM Patch.zip.
6.Flash GAPPS.
7.Reboot and enjoy!!!
Click to collapse
Note:
On the 1st reboot just after flashing you won't see the green droid 3sec countdown of BMM but don't Panic it's there. It'll show up once you reboot.
Optional:
1.Install the BMM app from market to manage other things.
2.There is also the recovery_switch script(also taken from altered's PA3.15) in /bin which can be run to remove the BMM recovery and bring back the old CyannogenDefy Recovery but I personally haven't tested that yet.

Well not sure if it will solve the blackscreen problem or for those who were unable to boot an any point as I haven't done anything to the graphic drivers and the black screen/boot problem seems to be related to that. But do let me know if something happens.

it will not. the reason you get a black screen is because the drivers have an issue with (some of) our phones.

So I've been using CM10.1 for about 2 weeks now.I just love it.But the main problem with it was the black screen problem(which I've never faced luckily) due to which people were hesitant of installing it as the only ROM or daily driver.
A solution was found to flash CM10.1 over BMM as System 3 or above(Thanks to Ravikirancg). But for that we needed to have an ICS based ROM as our System 1.I personally didn't like to have an ICS ROM as my system 1 just so that I could be able to flash other ROMs over System 3 and above. But we couldn't install CM10.1 as System 1 and have other ROMs installed over system 3 and above.
So I decided to dig in a little and after a soft brick and multiple other hiccups I finally managed to boot CM10.1 over BMM as System 1.:victory::good:Additional benefit: No triple boot(bootloops) at reboots or zip flashes.
I've made all the edits and attached the modified zip file below.

instead of doing all of this, you can just install bmm from play store on stock ics. flash cm10.1 on system 1 and bmm will automatically force install itself (I dont see why what I said or my solution would require stock ics as system 1). and you will have copy over all the kexec files to the right place. I was trying to figure out a way to create a universal cmdefy to bmm and ss patch. but that was giving some trouble. there is a risky way to do it.. but risky. I will just update my post for all individual roms I guess. anyway nice to see ppl trying things out.. so thanks..

Its a good idea to mention and make separate patches for the kexec version and stock version for bmm. Also, if I remember, the cm10 rootfs files work for pa (not really required anymore as all the newer ones are bmm compatible.. but just for reference..)

Which version BMM do you have???
Which Atrix do you have Asia,Att or some other??
Retail Asia has JB Leak which you can try if you have one.
When you say you wanna try JB, which ROM do you have in mind??
BMM is a recovery and recoveries are not android version specific.

It is untouched and requires full data wipe/system wipe. No root or busybox, see downloads for those.
I have provided these for those who like to run the official ATT/Samsung Stock offering.

ʘ You would need clockwork mod recovery already installed. I have ONLY verified with the touch recovery. Please DO NOT complain if whatever recovery you are using cannot flash this properly. I will ignore all those posts.
ʘ ALWAYS ALWAYS check the md5sum.
ʘ Make sure you do a Nandroid backup, so you can restore your previous ROM. If you don't know what this means. STOP. I repeat for christ's sake STOP, you should not be flashing anything.

This is pretty simple.
- Make sure you download the ROM to the phone. (and any other add-ons).
- Backup. Backup.
- Verify md5sum.
- Boot into CWM recovery.
- Format System.
- Wipe Data and Cache Partition.
- Select the downloaded zip.
- Install.
- [OPTIONAL] If you want root. Install the su-busybox zip in the Downloads section. YOU WOULD STILL NEED TO DOWNLOAD AND INSTALL AFTER BOOT SuperSU or Superuser from PLAY STORE.
- [OPTIONAL] If you want the modified boot-image to support boot anim and other init.d functionality (you need busybox see above, for this). Flash the modified kernel/boot-image zip from the downloads.
- Boot and wait for at least 5-10 minutes.

Try at your own risk, make sure you've got a backup and know how to reflash your previous modem if needed.

MIUI for Retail Asian/ATT

Origin site http://www.591fan.com/thread-33954-1-1.html
What is this
This is MIUI for Retail Asian/ATT phones, this rom based on MIUI patch rom for Retail China stable branch project and re-packed for retail Asian/ATT phones.
This rom solved the battery drain issue(wake lock issue) when flashing official miui on retail asian/att phones.
Modded
As the stable miui branch not support the root permission function, I used the common SU binary, this means U need to install SuperUser or SuperSu to manager the root permission if U installed this rom.
There's no other extra mods, it is a pure "official" MIUI.
If U got FC after installing this rom, please DO A WIPE DATA/CACHE
How to install
This is for retain Asian/ATT only
- U should flash this rom on an ICS stock rom(I mean, your kernel should be 3.X, and your stock rom should be ics)
- If you're on CM10, flash via cm's recovery
If you're on other roms, Install bootstrap to flash this rom
- Wipe
- install this rom
- reboot
- enjoy it
WARNING
As always, I take no responsability for damaged phones, the user has full responsability. I am not responsible for any data loss and or bricked phones.I assume the user has read this README file and knows what he is doing。

EDIT: Just did a google search and can't find those apks anywhere. Anyone know where I could get the MIUI apps?

Flashoholics!!

Just trying to be helpful here, here is a faster way to get from stock one-click to JB goodness.....
After you flash to stock with antonx kernel reboot into recovery and flash bhundvens blastoff kernel, reboot recovery, now you should be in blue 5.0.2.8....flash the newest cm9, it will reboot automatically into recovery for you to flash a second time, but don't, instead flash a JB Rom, (I flashed chaos from dao) once it rebooted into recovery...jellybean recovery, I flashed the Rom plus gapps. Rom booted just fine.
So.....save a little time from completely flashing the whole rom, waiting for it to boot and rebooting into recovery just to do it again till you get where you want.....cheers
hopefully it saves you some time
************************just like everyone else says "I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE IF YOU BRICK YOUR PHONE"*****************
just one-click back and start over hee hee!!!!
If you're saying flashing a kernel with CWM 5.x and then flashing a JB ROM is faster, we all know that already.
You are not flashing the kernel first technically. What you are doing is converting the file system.
However I thought all the JB roms had the mtd conversion script included. If they dont I would ask the person that ported them to update it with that script. There should never be a reason to flash to ics then jb.

[Q] How to install custom recovery after root?

first things first. I'm a noob. HAHA. but i'm willing to learn.
I recently rooted my phone by using chainfire's CF-AUTO-ROOT and it has stock recovery on it. Now, I want to install a custom recovery, specifically cwm recovery. How will be able to do this? Do I have to unroot then root again? a step by step info will be appreciated. thanks

I also would like to install cm 10.2. is it stable? I tried searching and I found pac rom and if i'm not mistaken 3 custom roms are installed into 1 rom.
I also would like to ask if it is really necessary to wipe all data before installing a new rom? and if so, would apps like titanium backup pro would be able to backup every single app or information that is in my tab/
Yeah u have to wipe cache and dalvik cache. 10.2 nighties r stable. No issues with me.

Your thread is changing direction but I can't resist commenting anyway. If your tablet is rooted, stock I don't think you will see big benefits to a custom ROM. For other tablets I use like the Kindle, Nook and N7 custom roms can make a huge difference. I'm running CM 10.? Or variants of that on those devices. My most used tablet is this 2.7 with stock ROM. If you must try another ROM, I'd suggest a sick based ROM that is deodexed with sound or visual enhancements. Also, changing to a noon, Touchwiz launcher will make big differences. GOOD LUCK!
P.S. quess what a ROMaholic might be.

[Q] Need ICS that will work with Infuse ...

Hate to be a pest but I cannot get ICS to install.
Tried this one: gapps-ics-20120429-signed.zip
but when I update with it, my phone reverts back to Gingerbread.
I followed the video that clears data and cache,
flashes, reboots, pulls battery out, clears again,
and flashes the rom a second time.
Just cannot get ICS to work with the above ROM zip file.
Can you point me to a webpage that has the ROM and procedure?
Thanks much.

You need to install both the ROM and the Gapps package.

I found 2 ROMs on that webpage:
DOWNLOAD
-New and Future Builds:
http://www.mediafire.com/?fjkxprrz50izph7
INFINITUM
-Old Build
http://www.mediafire.com/?49tmm9mp7wsgmr9

I assume its best to use the New Build?
Also, when I flash the Gapps package, should it be done while flashing the above ICS ROM?
Thanks
