Back to "stock" ROM kernel? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

Can I go back to the kernel that came with my ROM? I'm running Liquid 4/20 nightly with KT kernel currently and want to go back to "stock". Any way to do this without reflashing?

You will have to reboot into recovery and wipe data. It will take you back to when you first flash the ROM.

Thanks for the response.. What all will be lost with data wipe? Will I still have downloaded apps?

The user wants the stock kernel which came with the ROM. He has to flash the Kernel or flash the ROM once again after wiping the data.

Yes this is exactly what I'm asking about. If I don't have the kernel and I reflash the ROM after the data wipe, what will I have lost when the phone reboots? Maybe a better question is what will I need to restore as I've done a full backup.

When you dont wipe anything and flash the rom, you won't loose anything as far as i know. This method is known as dirty flashing. This may sometimes causes unintended issues.
If you wipe cache, dalvik-cache, boot, system and data and flash the rom, you will loose all the apps installed, messages, contacts etc. This is full wipe, clean install.

Thanks a lot for the response. I'm just getting into all the amazing customization options and I've become a flash addict lol. I'm seeing the full benefit of nandroid now... Definitely your best friend.

[Q] EaglesBlood's 2.3.7 GingerBread For G2X NO DATA!!!!

Is anyone having this issue? I cant find a fix for it, this is really a great rom if not the BEST!!!
Have you tried a hard reboot? Do you have apn's listed?
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda premium
I'm pretty sure that CM7 2.3.7 has the data fix, but try the DragonG2X kernel, which has the APN fix that the cyanogen team came up with, should hopefully fix your problems. If it doesn't, try a clean install with a full wipe and the kernel, if that doesn't work, you might need a new sim card (small chance of that one making a difference), and if that doesn't work, you have no chance.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1229932
Yes I have tried doing a hard reboot, flashing the rom again and wiping everything and it still has no data. Also i have flashed an older rom and it still has the problem, and I know its not the sim card or my phone because with other roms it works perfectly, its a shame because i really liked that rom.
no i dont have apn's listed
Try the kernel mentioned above.
And put your phone number in settings<call settlings<additional settings
I've seen that fix the apn issue for some.

Sorry for the question but how can I flash a rom? Via clockworkmod, installing from SD card?
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda premium
I think you mean kernel right? If so, yes, thru cwm like a rom. Wipe cache and dalvik before flashing it the fix permissions before reboot.
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda premium
Yes that's what I meant hahaha, OK will try it!!!

Try this, flash the tmobile recovery first, then boot into the phone. Wipe from settings, privacy, wipe the sdcard box or whatever... let it do its thing, until it reboots after the part when android flys up, pull the battery, then flash clockwork recovery, wipe everything again, then flash what you need, wipe data, pull battery, flash stock tmobile recovery, then hold down volume down and power until it wipes it's own, let it load, then flash back the recovery of your choise if needed... everything should work after this. I notice that if I don't do these steps, my use up memory after flashing any rom is pass 260, but when I do these steps, its at around 160mb

We're pretty much running the same stuff. I'm on a stock ROM with bhundven's subtly modified kernel. I'm using version beta 2d, currently, but I've not experienced any lag - scrolling or otherwise - with any of the versions I've run.
Are you running anything that's possibly eating a lot of CPU and/or RAM?
Go to the home screen
Hold the "Home" button down until the "Recent" window pops up
Press the Task Manager button
Is there anything running?
My free ram is 152 average
I thinky this was cause nandroid backup... :-\

Yeah, if you did a backup then maybe a restore, it's possible something restored that is causing the issue. If you start clean, make sure you do a factory data reset before the install, then wipe the cache partition and the Davlik cache after the install. Once you have the ROM on, flash the kernel, then debloat. Double-check after that to see if Voodoo lagfix is enabled. Once that is done, see how it's working.

Good question. I know it saves user data and apps, I think, but I've never done a restore so I'm not 100% sure. I want to say yes, but I need someone with knowledge and experience with Nandroid restores to chime in here.
I'll try it when i get home ;-)

I tried restore in CWM,
after that,
it's still lagging :/
Can you please provide more information then, as best are you can?
Did you flash any tweaks, themes, anything else?
If the phone is lagging still, even after the restore, then you might as well load a new rom. Do it from a clean wipe.
nope,,
I JUST RESTORE MY PHONE USING THIS http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1358498
BECAUSE I USED THE NANDROID RESTORE IN CWM AND IT DIDN'T WORK AND BOOT LOOPED MY PHONE

Removing Kernel

Is there anyway to remove the Dragon kernel on Weapons 3.0 without restoring a Android or wiping my phone?
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
I doubt anyone has cared to try it, I think that most people use Titanium BU for apps and system data and just restore that after a wipe or just do a nandroid.
Otherwise, try it and see what happens. Just remember we are not responsible for anything that happens to your phone. Best course is Titanium and a fresh install, particularly since I get the feeling you didn't do a nandroid.

Backup, Backup, Backup. The first thing I do when i get a Rom set with my apps is make a Backup. This is a lot easier than starting from scratch. Backup, Backup, Backup.
Yea, I forgot to backup before I flashed the kernel and for sum reason after I flashed the kernel I had weird random reboots that I didn't have before the kernel.... But its ok, I just restored a nandroid I already had from a few days after I flashed Weapons to my phone.... But thanks for the advice

Just flashed this and guess what? Carrier IQ is gone.
Or at least CIQ detector can no longer see it.
Probably gone, I don't think AT&T needs that kind of publicity.
Hows the modem?
nice work cdshepherd! So I'm currently rooted, KK1, with CWM (along with UOT Kitchen systemUI.apk and framework-res.apk mods). So with the zip you created, we can just flash via CWM, wipe, and we're good to go with UCLA3? (i.e., no need to flash back to 2.3.5 stock and re-root, correct?)

Speed tests are good. Getting two bars of LTE in my house now instead of one.
My house is on the edge of LTE coverage and would average 10Mbp/s down.
I'm getting 16Mbp/s now. Not sure if the update had anything to do with it, but on the surface it looks that way.
I get 40+Mbp/s at work, so I'll see if there's an improvement when I go in tomorrow.

Read the op for the ROM you are flashing. It will tell you what is recommended. You can always try to flash it without wiping and if doesn't work right, do a full wipe and flash again.
