I took in a GX2 on trade. This phone is approximately 1 year old and has never been rooted or modded to my knowledge. When I try to enable the wifi it displays Turning on.... and greys out but never turns the wifi on. Not sure if this is a hardware or a software problem and could use a little bit of help trying to figure this one out. I am not at all experienced with rooting or modding phones, I actually got this one to fiddle with and try to figure out modding.
I have tried powering the phone off and then back on, no dice. I have also done multiple (as in more than 10) full factory resets via the privacy menu factory data reset, and again no dice.
Phone details:

I did manage to root the phone and then take it back to 2.2.2 last night. Still no luck with the wifi and it says error now when I check the wifi on/off button under wireless and network settings. I did find someone who said they had what sounds like a similar problem with a different phone caused by a problem that developed with a corrupted 2.6.32.9 kernel. So Im thinking I may try to fix that since I really dont think I have much to lose at this point.
Not exactly sure what I did but everything is working again. After restarting 2.2.2 multiple times it started the wifi module but then when the battery died (my fault the power cable came undone in the night) it went weird so I went back to 2.3.4. Everything works fine (for now) so we shall see what happens.
I will probably be digging around in these forums looking for things I can learn and do with this phone. I really appreciate having a good place to start learning what this thing is capable of and how to go about modding. Thanks everyone.
Help me
Seems any time i flash an ICS or JB rom on my g2x the wifi stop working but resumes and work fine when i flash GB. My baseband is March 2012. Any help guys?

Hello,
I have been experiencing a bug where the phone acts as if there has been a long press of the search button (and the appropriate dialog comes up) when I have not touched the search button at all! (I am not pressing it by accident, it will do this while sitting on a table untouched). When it happens, the search button is not lit up (as if it were pressed), and none of the other buttons can be pressed, nor can anything on the screen, other than responding to the dialog. This can last two to four seconds (it's REALLY annoying). What's worse is that this can happen up to once a minute sometimes!
I've discovered that this happens only when I have 3g data turned on. When data is off, or when on wifi only, it does not occur.
Is anyone else having this problem, and (hopefully) has found a fix? I did do a search (both on Google and in here). I discovered a Google forum where people talk about experiencing the problem (a Google employee chimes in with questions) but no solution as of yet. I was hoping to find something about this in Xda, but as stated, couldn't find anything Though this person may be talking about the same problem:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1069765
Here is the link for the Google forum:
http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Google+Mobile/thread?tid=49e8ca84071d51a4&hl=en
Since it only happens when 3g data is turned on, could it be my radio image? Or something else? Any help or thoughts would be greatly appreciated! My current running specs below:
Nexus S
Android Version 2.3.3
Baseband version NO DGSXKD1
Kernel Version 2.6.35.7-g1 d030a7 [email protected] #1
Mod Version Cyanogenmod-7.0.3-NS
Build Number GRI40
Model number GT 19020A (originally bought from a Telus Store) currently running on Bell Mobility
Rooted, bootloader unlocked
I was about to post this exact thread! I am having the same issue with my NS i9020a running stock unrooted 2.3.4. I to have noticed a link between data connection type and the issue occuring. One theory i read said that static charge may be to blame?... but that didn't seem right to me....
Anyway... I would also love some more info on this subject of anyone has any input. I bought my phone off ebay less than a week ago, and if the issue is hardware i am going to have to file a claim with paypal...

This is exactly what I posted in a separate thread. However, I'm not sure about the 2G / 3G changing.
I'll experiment.
Which radio are you using - seems like this was at least temporarily related to my switch to KD1 ?

I reflashed radio KB3 and problem , at least for now is not happening. It was almost making the phone unusable this am earlier before changing radio
??!

How can I find what radio I am using? Also, How long have the two of you had your devices? Is this issue something that manifested after you changed something on your phone (thus indicating it is not hardware related) or has it always been there? Thx, and i hope we can get this sorted out.
Cheers

I've had about three or four weeks. Not sure unless this radio change theory is correct

Edit: I am assuming that this (NO DGSXXKD1) is the KD1 radio that you switched to and are theorizing may be the culprit...it is also something that all three of our devices have in common. I am eager to see if changing the radio permanently fixes your issue.
I'm on a Telus 9020a radio KB3 and i have the same problem.
Not sure at this point what the deal is! But changing from the upgraded radio KD1 back to KB3 has up to this point solved the issue. Maybe six or seven hours without the phantom search firing.

Currently there is no stock 2.3.4 for the i9020a. The no xxxxkb1 is a result of forcing the update from the t version. Since the a version uses didn't frequencies, I'm not sure about it's reliability. The ota has yet to be released and this tells me that our phone has something different
I see this issue also however I get it more when using gps. I have my phone vent mounted and I am suspecting heat might be the issue

Interesting, I don't know what was done to my phone before it was in my possession but when I received it it was running stock 2.3.3 and on first boot after setup i received a popup notifying me that there was a system update available. I selected install and it did its thing and now I have 2.3.4. Is there a way to revert the device back to the software it is supposed to have on it?

Hey guys, got the Sprint Nexus S 4g just this last Friday. Phantom search button presses and long presses started up soon after. Still going on now. Have not been able to narrow down culprit as far as 3G/4G/Wifi go. Running completely stock everything:

Just thought I'd add my stat to the growing list.

I'm on my phone so it's as little hard to link. In the general section there is a thread to a stock nandroid backup with the kb3 modem.

Finally got my device rooted and switch to the KB3 radio.... it's has been a few hours and I have yet to experience the search button bug. I'm crossing my fingers that you found the solution! Thx.

Ok. So it's now been almost 24 hours. No repetitive firing of the search button on my Nexus S since flashing back to the KB3 radio.
Beware anyone experiencing this should not flash to the KD1 radio. I have a 9020a device. I assume it is Canadian since it had ATT 3G bands prior to any mention of ATT devices.
I think they are all a bit different when it comes to hardware which baffles more when I read on a Google forum post about a T-Mobile device that was stock Ann's doing this.

Where to dowload KB3 radio image? (And advice)
Hey jrcompton,
Wow, that's great news! I tried a bunch of things, including going back to stock 2.3.3 via ROM manager (am now on 2.3.4, as I was prompted almost immediately for an OTA upgrade), and the bug still persists. It seemed after returning to stock that the issue didn't present itself until after installing certain apps (Dialer 1, Handcent, Extended Controls) but after removing them, am still seeing the bug. Was thinking that maybe it was these apps and uninstalling still let some trace and another factory reset might be necessary, but your results give me hope! As it is, on mobile data the bug can present itself several times in a minute! (Making the phone almost unusable).
All that being said, any chance you could share where I could download the KB3 radio? I did search and was only able to find a thread with mostly Tmobile users, and was thinking that the radio in that thread might not be the right one. I'm on Bell, so sounds like the radio that you're using would be right for me (since your phone uses AT&T bands).
Also, never flashed just a radio before, and am a little nervous. I know that there are a ton of threads with instructions, but I hope it's ok if I ask a couple questions. I'm assuming that I download the image, and put it in my ANDROID-SDK-TOOLS directory, then just (in command prompt from that same directory) type "fastboot flash radio *********.img (with the phone in bootloader, and connected via usb). And that I should NOT disconnect, power down, touch, or even look at phone during process, and make sure that PC doesn't power down, reboot, etc. If all of that is correct, do I need to wipe/factory reset or anything else beforehand or afterwards?
Thanks so much in advance, and so glad that you've at least had 24 hours bug free!
If this works for me as well, will post in the Google help forum thread as well.

Hey Sophos1 (or anyone else who might know),
My Nexus is now running the following:
Android Version: 2.3.4
Baseband Version: NO DGSXXKD1
Kernel Version: 2.6.35.7-ge382d80 [email protected] #1
Build number: GRJ22
Model number GT 19020A (originally bought from a Telus Store) currently running on Bell Mobility
Would the KB3 radio that you downloaded for your phone work for mine? Also, just for confirmation, will I be ok following the steps that I listed above? Lastly, what's the worst that can happen if I flash the incorrect radio? Would I still have the opportunity to flash the correct radio (or reflash stock including the correct radio) via fastboot?
Thanks so much guys!

basilcallly tells to apply a signed ROM . But can you please advise which ROM would solve my wi-fi issue. and how to apply that?
Thanks in advance
I also had similar issue when I flashed the original recovery to remove the rooting and clock work mod...
Now if u have the original recovery installed...flash the OTA updates through it and if you don't have the OTA you need to flash the original ROM
After the flashing ur wifi will work normal
hello,
actually I am so new to the stuf. I havent applied any updates to the device, but I guesss it has been s-off ed and applied a different ROM before it has been sold to my friend in USA. Now, which exact ROM would you suggest me to flash and actually where I can find it and read the how to ?.
Thanks
after stock and root i was on Revolution 3.6.1 and now i am using S3N5EaY v 1.4.0 -> agree .. its very smooth - fast and looks great. but still the most important thing is : battery life.. so before i had to charge 2 times a day on hard-use.
theres no need anymore at the moment ;-)

Ello m8,
It appears your in the same boat as me, i have the wifi error too, it doesn't even turn on to be able to see networks, let alone connect to them so it's quite horrible.
What i've done:
Flashed pretty much every rom i possibly could. (old ones, new ones, no effect)
Changed the recovery to 4ext (which works great but didn't help)
Changed kernels (a lot)
Changed Radios and RIL files (a lot)
Flashed an official RUU (no effect at all)
Went back to S-ON as described in the tutorial on the main xda sensation guide, then S-OFF'd again.
I'm now back on P3D v 8 and it's running lovely but alas, still no wifi.
I've changed the back cover (the yellow connectors at the top have something to do with the wifi) Don't mess around with these as you may break something, changing the case had no effect, apparently the wifi still connects without the back cover on the phone.
I am literally at my wits end with this and i got my phone for free from my work and i was only supposed to have had it for a while (4 months) so if i say it's broke, they may take it back and i've lost the phone completely, if that wasn't the case then i would have sent it back after i'd tried everything software wise i could think of.
I'm not saying that you are in the same situation exactly but if you are then it looks bleak and i would say anything next to removing the wifi chip and replacing it would mean the wifi will never work, plus tutorials for replacing the wifi on a sensation are scarce to say the least (torque screwdrivers at the ready)
If i get it working i'll let you know how, please do the same if you get any joy.
Oh i almost forgot, another thread on another site they mention using an app called wefi, i didn't have any luck but you might.
Good luck matey Hope you have more than i did.
Hi,
I am having the same issue.
Have been running android revolution HD 3.6.5. by mike1986 and previous versions of it (2, 3) and no issues with the WiFi, as one day it just started (yesterday to be precise). I did not install anything or played with settings that could mess with the wi-fi. One day ago was working ok and the next not.
Tried the Wefi app but it did not help either.
feeling hopeless...

Looks like this error is more common than it would first have appeared, read my post a few up for what i've tried, i even feel like dropping it if it's something inside so as to knock it back into place, but i haven't yet Lol that's desperation.
I've got an appointment with HTC soon and i'm getting it changed, if anyone gets this sorted then let me know as i'd rather keep my phone.

Hi,
I also tried all you tried and no results.
Changed the case with a friends phone but did not help either.
After a lot of reading through the forums did a logcat to see what the hack the phone is saying about this error and it seems it cannot load the driver.
If it helps smb to go deeper can post it.
Gave a thought or two about knocking it against the wall or throw it from the window but after-all, i think i can live for some time without wifi, my GPRS speed is not bad and maybe soon will be having 3G and during work time can use internet pass-through.
Worst case scenario, will sell it and get EDGE the new quad-core monster HTC will be releasing next year Q1 or early Q2.

Dude I got the same problem and I did the same procedure so far but same results as well.
I am just wondering if you got any better results for this issue.
Thanks
Same problem, bad results...
I had the same problem. Both my Bluetooth and WiFi would get stuck on "turning on" but never did, I flashed so many ROMs and Kernels, Tried RUU's from Europe,Asia, and USA and nothing worked. SO I CALLED HTC...thankfully I was still under warranty (It's a 12 month warranty) and shipped my phone away after flashing the latest official T-Mobile RUU, Un-Rooting, and going back to S-ON. It's been a week...I called and they said THE MOTHERBOARD needed to be replaced, which I think is the "default fix" if they can't solve the issue. So hopefully in a week I'll have my phone back...Best of Luck...don't mean to be a Debby Downer but I tried EVERYTHING. Give em a call, it won't hurt to try.
So I have this problem my LG G2X mobile network states disconnected and under apn if I make a new one it never shows even after a reboot, always black, so where do I get the firmware for the basebands mine reads M6600A-scautnz-2.0.9720t 1 [jul 15 2011 10:00:00] mp;trulge_08.09.02r_mdm is this the right one and if not where can I get it..... phone works great besides this....

Well I went back to the stock rom and everything is working fine.......
This is the problem I'm getting now that I flashed 2 completely seperate ROMS. Any ideas other than going back to stock?
Which rom was the op on? It depends on what rom you were on, for us to help I'm sure fat boy is galnet miui!?!?? Try holding power and volume up this might help reset the apns and get your data back

It's not even that now, meaning GalNet MIUI. I'm currently running the latest Kang Banger ROM and it's doing the same exact thing. My mobile network state is disconnected and I can't send or recieve MMS, but I can sometimes go online and text and call fine. This is really annoying now. When and where do I press those buttons?
You can just hold them from whatever screen you're on just power and volume up it'll turn off and then boot on its own.

Yup that definitely works, just annoying I have to do it so often because any little thing seems to drop connection.
Hello, this is my first post so be gentile.
I play for the Back Alley Barbers, and so being on the road all the time i really rely on my phone.
Here is what i have done so far:
Flashed stock Rom V.906
Rooted device (xt862)
Flashed xt883 radio.img
pushed the new modded-hybrid-xt862-xt860 build.prop
Phone specs:
Sys ver.57.1.60.xt883.chinaTelecom.en.CN
android Ver. 2.3.4
baseband Ver. n_16.18.16s
Kernel Ver. [email protected]#1
Build # SLNCT-57.1.60
Now my problem is this. I can start my phone up and everything works fine.
Boot is good all that. I start of in 3G fair amount of bars.
Although sometimes in the top right corner it will flash the sim card with the exclamation point on it.
then i get a error message.
Once i push the Force close button. The bars come back and the pone is back to normal.
However this will happen a few times, and sometime it wont get the bars back.
And the reboot process will happen 3 or 4 times. with no bars to speak of.
So if anyone can give me tips or hints on what to do. Or maybe send a hack or update my way would be awesome. I'll make sure i get you some free swag! I mean come on who doesn't want killer free s&%t from a kick ass band?!
I will be feverishly checking this for replies. Thanks in advance!
Moved to General Q&A.
Hi,
This is my first post.
My partner had a Desire S and it's got an odd problem.
First things first, it's stock and not rooted.
It's been working fine and then wifi started to give errors.
When switched on it said 'turning on' and then went to state error.
Switching wifi off, then back on fixed it.
This happened once a week or so for a month. Then it got worse.....
Wifi just wouldn't switch on. Either permanently 'turning on' or 'error' state.
So I downloaded the RRU for ICS and put that on, it was originally running gingerbread . Same problem.
Hardware issue I thought.
And now it's got worse.
Now the phone is rebooting every 5 to 10 mins. Unless it's connected to power.
I tried it with aeroplane mode so wifi was disabled and that doesn't help. Battery has been pulled many times.
Any thoughts before it gets thrown out of the window?
Thanks in advance for your help!

As you have already RUUed to the latest version, which most of the time fixes software issues, I believe its a hardware problem.
You can try to RUU again if that helps.
On the hardware side, it seems the phone is having a hard time communicatin on the wifi modem, you might want to take off the camera cover and check from there. If not, might need to replace wifi chip.
Or better yet, send it to HTC for repairs.
