[Q] Donating Hardware (Sony Xperia Tablet S)... - General Questions and Answers

Sorry if I've missed something, but I've not been able to find a way to donate hardware... So here goes...
I have a new (bought it about a week ago) Sony Xperia Tablet S that (so far) cannot be rooted. Was wondering if there was a way to donate it to a dev-type interested in figuring it out. I've spent the last week pouring over this and I'm done (furious is closer to the mark, but I digress)... I should have checked xda-developers before purchasing a tab in the first place. That's not a mistake I'll make again (AMOF, I think I'll avoid the SONY name like the plague from now on).
If anyone here in the States is committed to working on it, I think it would be more productive going to a good cause rather than directly into the trash can. Other than the fact that I can't root it, remove dubious-looking software, and/or build my own ROM for it, it works as Sony seems to think I want and need it to.
Let me know. Thanks.
Specifics:
Model: SGPT12
Android Version: 4.1.1
Kernel Version: 3.1.10 [email protected])) #1 SMP PREEMPT Fri Mar 29 00:53:54 JST 2013
Build #: TJS2016610(US)
(Don't know if it makes any difference, but the back shows a model # of SGPT1211)

Yes I agree I will NEVER buy a Sony tablet again, they are crap.

Root bounty?

Ok....
I got myself the DOPO (Double Power) MD-740 ICS tablet. I've scoured the web for ANYTHING in regards to this tablet, unfortunately I've had zero luck in finding and information. There are two things I'd like done with this--
One: get root.
Two: have the ability to use a USB gamepad with a couple of paid emulation apps I have.
If any devs are willing to work on these tasks I'll personally pay $50 if this can be accomplished. Since this tablet is relatively new, I'm sure there will be some others willing to chip in a little to make the task a bit more worthwhile...
It's running on 4.0.3, model # full AOSP on Rk29sdk
kernel 3.0.8+ root!xingyu-desktop#153
Build number RK2918_android4.0.3-SDK_v2.10_20120205
Anyone interested?

[Q] MID Tablet M9000/F900 (AllWinner A10??)

Greetings,
While I been a tech for 20years supporting the WinTel systems, I am a noob to Android and ROM programming. I needed to be portable, and being unemployed didn't leave many cost-options available. I picked up a China knockoff called the MID M9000 (http://www.ebay.com/itm/330779120701?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649).
What I can confirm on it is that it does run a Cortex A8 (I guess that means it is a AllWinner A10??) running Android ICS 4.04. A look under About Tablet shows Model Number F900, Baseband Version 1.4rc3 Kernel 3.0.8 [email protected] #2 Fir Jul 27 10:27:12 CST 2012 Build Number 20120716-F900.I have some flakiness with the screen, the performance seems poor with alot of waits and do I want to kill the app. I have gone through with Android Assistance and Advanced Task Manager to kill off any background apps, loads, etc. Still no luck.
Funny thing someone dumped in my lap a cheapy Sylvania SYNET7WIC 7" Smartbook with Windows CE 7 this past week. I searched and found you could bootload MODROID (Android 2.2 mod) ROM and I get more responsiveness on that WM8650 CPU than I am getting from this Cortex A8. So I am hoping it is just a bad build, and like the SYNET7WIC be happily surprised with a Mod for my Cortex A8 to improve it as well.
I tried over at CM, but there seems to be no discussion about MID tablets. I found the Christian Troy AllWinner A10 thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1821398) but as I am not a DEV, I can't post to that thread to ask for help. All feedback or assistance is welcome, especially pointing to the right ROM and other parts I should use (I believe I have the right instructions) on how to do my first reimage to Jelly Bean. Thanks!
This seems to be a F900 tab

I think this is a f900 generic chinese tab and a replica of this one http://temtop.en.alibaba.com/produc...13_1_5GHz_Cortex_A8_800_X_480_9_Inch_MID.html
I have the same tab and I was finding it hard to get a stable ROM to replace my factory ROM which had much more serious issues. I used this one on my tab and its been running much better now.
http://www.azhuo.net/en/products_F9...Capacitive_Android_4.0_Tablet_PC_Upgrade.html
Please note I still face issues with slowness and I need to reboot my tab everytime I play a resource intensive app/ game. I think its more to do with the hardware than with the firmware.

Recently purchased a similar tablet from http://www.agptek.com/New-Android-4.0-MID-7-inch-Capacitive-TouchScreen-Tablet-458-96-1.html. I flashed Unofficial CyanogenMod 10 for many AllWinner A10 tablets with the MOMO9 compatibility zip; as the MOMO9 specs are identical to my tablet. Running very smooth, alot faster and more stable than the original ICS 4.0.3.
Where did yuo download the rom flash from? How has it been working for you? Are you still running it on 4.0.3, or are you on 4.0.4 now? I just got a Mid M9000 and kinda regretting it now, but if I can flash it, to a better rom, that would be awesome.
Thanks
Tim
MaiPan
Howdy,
Actually I scored instead MaiPan MX913 img file at Maipad dot net . I was reading some reviews because this is a a single core device, and they are now pushing out quad core tablets now, because any attempt with this chipset to do Jelly Bean results in the touch screen stop responding (I have tried three or four already). I think also the problem is how 'low end' the single core is, and is why they are dumping these like crazy.
I have actually seen quite a few posts that some still don't get good ICS response no matter the img file, and so regress back to Froyo with alot of positive results. I dunno if there is a patch with the Froyo to compensate for the changes to Adobe Flash and now the Java scripting changes, if your still not happy with the results from MaiPan.
I was going to sell mine on ebay, but now I might give it a try with the December img at MaiPan and seems to be pretty snappy, but won't replace my laptop where I can open several web pages at the same time I think. I will let you know how the latest image works as I am intending to test this weekend.

Don't waste your time... I downloaded the 12.1 version of the MX913 (not DC), and now have no touch screen response...
Think I'll try the A10 AllWinner and see if that works.
Thanks

Now I have tablet that boots up with NO touch screen... since I tried the MX913 firmware, I've lost screen responsiveness. I suggest to everyone NOT to buy any tablets from NoMoreRack.com. Their customer service sucks and their tablets are all cheap crap... I think I learned my lesson!

Which one saved it? I really don't want to **** around another month with nomorerack.com to send this unit back and get another POS... So, if you could let me know tonight or tomorrow which firmware you used, that would be awesome.
Thanks

Wow. Yes. Maybe. Here is my sad story with a rare happy ending:
I ordered a MID9000 from No More Racks--BIG MISTAKE!--When, a couple of months later, it finally arrived (to my surprise), I set it up and was delighted to find that it actually worked. Up until.....5 weeks later, I left it on the charger overnight and that killed it. It appears these units are susceptible to overcharging. It would not boot past the "android" screen. Well, being an android noob, I was clueless. I finally discovered the Kocaso site that had downloads for the image files. It is here (but seeing I'm a new user I cannot post the link). However, the software that they recommend for installing the firmware did not work on my Windows 7 unit. Further search brought me here (but seeing I'm a new user I cannot post the link but it is on the Tablet Mods site), which clearly explained how to download and use LiveSuit to install firmware from a PC to an android tablet. And so. Back to the mymidpad firmware page! If you check the m9000 firmware, there are 4 possibilities. It says to check your serial number on the back to determine which one to use. Woe is me--my m9000 had no serial number. What the heck did I have? And so, I tried all 4 possibilities. NONE of them worked. They all installed OK, but the touchscreen would not respond. At that point, I was ready to throw the machine in the garbage. But one last chance: I tried to install one of the images given for the M9100 (M9100f), and to my shock, it worked like a charm and my machine is working better than ever. Go figure! I suspect that my M9000 actually is a M9100, at least in part. Who knows. I'm happy, for the time being. The moral is: be careful you don't overcharge these units!
my problem is that the touch stopped working ...
hey I have the same problem and I can not fix !!!! I have the same model. please help !!!!

[Q] help with identification of xooms

I have two Xoom tablets my wife's and my own. They are both running android 4.1.2. We are considering rooting and moving to new versions.
Her's looks like this at "about".
Model= Xoom
Version= 4.1.2
Kernal= 2.6.39.4-g4e32b694. Android [email protected]) #1 SMP preempt Mon sept 10 14:01:08 per 2012
Build= JZ054K
Hers was originally a Chinese build from Amazon. I gedified it a while back and it updated to 4.1.2. It's WiFi only.
Mine is verizon 3g and Wifi and looks like this,
Model=Xoom
Version= 4.1.2
Equip ID=IHDP56LU2
Baseband=CDMA_N_03.1A 71pltedc_u_09.1F.00
Kernal= same as hers
Build=JZ054M
I don't have a Verizon contract for it.
I have lots of windows and Novell experience, and I did gedify her Xoom about a year ago. We're not in a big hurry to upgrade them, but we plan on keeping them as our tablets, and we know they will eventually get out dated if we don't do something.
Any info or advice you could offer about these two devices would be greatly appreciated, Thank You.
Hello,
I would suggest to open your zoom. You don't have to fully remove the rear case.
Normally you will see the model (eg. MZ604...) somewhere on a label Inside.
Usefull link :
I cannot post any link, so please search for "open xoom" in Google and chose the first proposal "ifixit.com"
Hope it helps !

[Q] Samsung Note 10.1 SCH-I925 (Verizon) Kitkat

First of all I am a newbie to this I have only used my Android devices out of box from factory/Carrier.
I would like to update my SCH-I925 to Kitkat so it can run some apps that require higher than 4.1. It appears Verizon is not going to push any so since I am out of warranty I am willing to do what it takes without bricking my device. From my searching it looks like I need to do a few things to get to the point such as Backup, Root, Change Rom. I do ok with PC's but this is new territory for me. Could someone point me in the right direction for current information for my device and android version. Whenever I think I found something it seems to be dated or expecting you to be at a certain point already. If there are Apps free or Paid I am apposed to paying a few dollars to someone who made the job easier and safer. If it makes since I would not mind baking mine up and restoring it as is just to prove I can do it before I go further. I have listed by device information Bellow let me know if you need other info
Tablet
Model: SCH-I925
Android Version: 4.1.2
Baseband Version: I925VRAMk1
Build: JZ054K.I925VRAMk1
Hardware Ver: I925.03
Carrier: Verizon LTE
PC
Windows 8.1 64 bit
Is there support for this device
Getting the impression this device could be lost cause. Am I better off selling it since it works and getting a new device with Version such as Samsung 10.1 Tab 4. I like my tablet but need to get to at least 4.2. Other option would be to find another tablet that is not LTE and use my phone as hot spot though I would prefer not to

Samsung s6 firmware?

Hi Everyone
Please bare with me as this is my first post on the site as it was recommended to me. Also bare with me even more as I don't know much about Android firmware.
Ill try to give you guys as much information as possible, I purchased a Samsung S6, or what I believed to be an S6. Im not so sure!
Its showing as running Android 5.0 but it seems to be lacking functions that makes me believe its not a legit phone. Could I try and put a different version of android on it to see if it will run? As I have lost lots of money
Heres what it says in the about settings to help you decide if I can do anything..
Android Version 5.0
Model Number SM-G920F
Baseband Version G920FXXU1AOBN
Kernel Version 3.10.54 [email protected] #1
Build Number LRX22G.G920FXXU1AOBN
Custom Built Version SEPG_SM_G920F_5.0.2_0008
Hope this makes sense to you guys
Is there anything I can do to salvage the phone?
Thanks very much

I'm sorry to tell you this but that is a fake Galaxy S6. Demand your money back and post where you got the phone from to let other's know where not to buy from as well as letting everyone know what a scammer this guy is.
From the info it looks the same as the issue in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s6/help/sim-unlock-destroyed-software-t3123505
To confirm a fake though, go into Download mode (with the phone off, hold volume-down + home button + power button). If Chinese text shows up then unfortunately it is a fake.
There are many youtube video's showing how to spot S6 fakes. There's even a video of a Chinese guy who's the manager of a counterfeit factory in Shenzhen producing the newest version of a fake who is trying to market the fakes to distributors. He goes on to show how their fake S6 is the best fake S6 around showing off all the features that the inferior fakes do not have like the "fingerprint sensor" (which is just a capacitive button so accepts any finger input) etc. They even cloned the Briefing app when you swipe left on the homescreen and many other things.
EDIT:
I couldn't find the original video but found another video of the same guy here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p8X1LLZkL1c claiming their model is "99% like the original". He's so proud of his fake the way he shows it off.
EDIT:
Huh, it runs on a Mediatek 6592 Octa-core CPU. I guess it's a "decent" phone if you bought it at the distributor price knowing that it's a counterfeit instead of buying it at retail price. Their S6 link is down but their iPhone 6 fakes selling for around USD$150. A fake S6 for $150 doesn't sound so bad.
