Heres the deal
Flashed MIUI, and im getting an unmountable/unavailable SD card problem. Cant mount to my PC either.
I tried using the RUU to go back to stock, getting errors. Tried factory resetting via CWM, but its giving my SD card mount problems as well. Tried factory resetting via phone settings. Phone just reboots.
Im stuck here, and I have no idea what to do.
You need to relock bootloader to flash the RUU.

Yes do that. Also I had issues with some Ruus not working with some drivers, kept gettin error 150 or maybe 140... Anyway I changed adb drivers and it worked. Don't get frustrated just yet.. We'll get u back
Also what about partition sd card in CWM? Don't know if it's there, should be. If not, install twrp and partition sd card from there.

OP is apparently too busy bickering with HS students in his cross posted thread, to actually take our help and fix his phone (or to tell us that it worked):

Well I've been having this problem for a while, my phone goes into a bootloop whenever I restart it. It shows the white HTC screen, goes black, then the white HTC screen...over and over again.
The only way I have found to get it to boot up normally is when I connect a USB cable to it
But if I remove the cable and reboot, I get the same problem again.
Any ideas? Has anyone had this happen before??
That may be a Hardware issue. They easiest way I can think of is to RUU back to Stock, and Reformat the SD Card. If it still does it, then it may be a Hardware related issue.

I've had that happen a couple times but it was because it was something I did/flashed, I agree with prboy, ruu back and format memory card (save your stuff to the computer first)- I've forgotten to save first a couple times

I'll definitely try that, I don't know if this shed anymore light on it but my sdcard doesn't mount through my phone anymore either...happened around the same time as the restarting thing
But I'll tr and see what happens, if not I'll just take it in to sprint, I know it can't be something I flashed, I've been on stock for a while because of my utility

I would start by Formatting the SD Card. Then if that doesn't resolve issue. Format the SD Card again, and then RUU. If at that point the issue is still present, it's time to take it in to Sprint. Out of curiosity, are you using a custom Kernel ? Reason I ask is that I've run across something slightly similar after Flashing an Experimental Kernel Dirty. Meaning I did not wipe Cache, or Dalvik before Flashing. Mind you this was a very long time ago, in my HERO days. But I seem to remember it acting sort of like the symptoms you described.

Nope, no custom anything. 100% stock 2.2 with temproot, but since I can't reboot its really permroot lol

Then I would defiantly try what I stated above. See if it can resolve the issue.

Getting the same issues. I've tried ruu through both the exe and pg06 img. Tried factory reset with no luck, in the stock recovery ive wiped everything with no luck also. It's read by fastboot and i can issue commands, flashing through fastboot just gives me a sig verification failure. I've tried every method i've found and none have worked. Happened after downgrading to 2.2. I got temproot and went to permroot to go into this. I used htcdev to unlock the bootloader and it was successful. I cant access my sdcard since flashing the 2.2 ruu reverted it to stock and i cant get into the system to disk drive it. It boots for about 3 seconds then reboots. If any of the mmcblk... commands were mistyped or something was done wrong, how would i go about checking or fixing them if thats even possible? Any help or leads would be amazing.

I had temp root and in between gaining perm root this happened. Root does me no good if I'm boot looped and can't even adb. I'm trying to get the phone to boot. Or read through adb. I can't fast boot any of the partitions either so I'm basically stuck in limbo

Must have missed that somehow. My bad . But on to the issue at hand. I'm wondering if maybe your SD Card went wonky. I would remove the SD Card, format it. Load the PG06IMG back onto the Card, reinstall. Then try to flash it. Of course backup your card to the PC first.

Tried this with same result. flashing through hboot works for the 2.2 ruu, but im still stuck in the bootloop.
I also tried flashing a custom recovery via hboot, but the pgo6img loads then doesnt ask me if i want to update or not. I have literally no idea where to go or what to check.

I was just about to say that, if the name of the file isn't correct, the bootloader won't pick it up.
Yeah i know, i was just too lazy to type it out. I know what im doing as far as general modding and flashing, and I actually managed to fix it. I'm not positive how but I used the unroot back to stock guide for the stock locked bootloader. After flashing it through hboot I tried the 2.3.4 RUU. Still bootlooped but I was at stock with locked bootloader. I then used htcdev to reunlock the bootloader and I was then able to flash partitions through fastboot. I flashed cwm and was able to adb through it. I basically just reran through the rooting phase and gained temproot. From here I redid the steps to engineer hboot and finally received s-off. After this it booted normally. I might be leaving steps out but if anyone needs specifics, just pm me and maybe I can figure it out again for you.

Was running RootBox, s-off, etc, and everything was working. Suddenly phone froze and rebooted. But ever since it won't get past the htc startup screen. It just keeps rebooting from there. I've RUU'd back to stock but it still does the same thing. I flashed a recovery and rebooted to recovery from fastboot but it won't get to it. Any ideas?
EDIT: after RUU back to stock, bootloader still will say s-off, not sure if it changed that in the past

I messed up bad. :crying: I have some idea what I'm doing but I just made a terrible mistake. I was running Viperxl with exernalx kernel and I wanted to try cyanogenmod 10.1. I had a back up of the factory version that was rooted and a back up of viperxl/externalx. I tried flashing the cyanogenmod rom and it was stuck in the loading screen. So I rebooted back into recovery then tried to flash the rooted factory backup I had. Same thing. It was stuck in the loading screen. Here's where I went wrong. I rebooted back into bootloader and tried factory reset without really knowing what it did. Now I have no back up. When I try to mount the sd card my computer says it has to format it first. And to format it, my computer has to clear it. And luckily I didn't just go for that. Any idea of what to do next? I'm stuck lol. Thanks for the help
Edit: Ok it's not really an sd card. All I can describe is it says drive G: and it has 10gb of internal storage(but it it has 16gb total it just says it will wipe about 10gb storage, can someone explain?) that I would have to all wipe out to format. I thought you would just call it an internal sd card but I don't think that's right. I just don't want to wipe anything important

Yeah I learned that the hard way lol. I usually check before doing stuff like that but... no excuse, I just went stupid. I thought it would be bad to format the disk since it wipes everything off? Is the important software on the other drive and not the 10gb sd card? Noob question but I just want to make sure before I make this irreversible
Edit: Ok I put more thought into this and I don't think you would call it an sd card. Just internal storage. But I see you have the same phone so I hope your advice is good. I just need to be reassured before doing anything else

I can't mount the sd card though since I factory reset it. Unless I format it on my computer and doing that will wipe everything off. And I'm not sure how that will turn out. You should read read read before doing stuff like this... It's easy to brick these phones. When I root and modify phones I'm prepared for something to screw up. But I personally spent days learning what to do before I started..

Thanks for the quick reply! That's what I thought. I just scared myself away from doing anything else. I don't always f up but when I do, I f up real bad lol. Most profound way to learn imo. No you absolutely cannot use elemental kernel with aosp based ROMs. It's only for use with sense ROMs. It probably says that in the OP of the kernel thread. You really need to do some reading.

Didn't see this till now. Is it that easy? I thought it took something more technical and risky than this. I read into this for two days straight before doing anything and everything went smooth. And I did back it up. Not sure what went wrong there when trying to flash it because it worked earlier. There's just a few things I'm not too familiar with like the factory reset. And for some reason I tried it assuming it just reset it back to how it came out of the factory. It's all a learning process
I guess you leaned the hard way huh, just remember never to factory reset in bootloader again, only in recovery. And do some more reading, your question about elemental kernel would have answered itself if you took the time to read properly.

Ok that makes sense. Idk why I didnt just check the kernel thread. I was just being lazy. Well.. you're definitely right. I got plenty of reading to do. I just always over analyze things and search stuff too specific which makes asking these questions on threads easier
There's nothing wrong with asking questions. But usually the same question has been asked and answered before, so be sure to search effectively first, it's part of xda rules.
Sent from my Evita
Yeah I understand that lol. I thought about that before asking. I was mostly just wondering if it was ok to wipe the memory to format it. And I explained everything just to check and make sure there was nothing else that could be done. Which I probably could've found the answers myself but it's a bit overwhelming making these mistakes without knowing what to do. Just want to cry out for help. Things always look so much easier retrospectively lol. And they usually are too
All in all I think you did the right thing, you have the right information we need to tackle the problem. You'll find xda to be a great place, it's full of like minded people that are willing to lend a hand when the **** hits the fan.

No! Never factory reset in bootloader on a modified phone! It corrupts the sd card. You need to learn more before you start giving advice, giving advice when you don't know what you're doing is dangerous, you'll damage someone's phone. Plus, he already stated that changing ROMs didn't work. He needs to run an RUU.

You're completely mixed up. Factory resetting from bootloader will corrupt his sd card. You only ever factory reset in recovery. Never, ever factory reset in bootloader. He never said he had problems accessing recovery, he said he needs a backup to restore via recovery. RUU will work perfectly fine, his only problem is that the battery icon is always showing 77%

He never said he had problems accessing recovery, he said he needs a backup to restore via recovery. RUU will work perfectly fine, his only problem is that the battery icon is always showing 77%

I was confused with the thread from the guy who installed a wrong OTA Update, any who, Bootloader factory reset was always a fast way for me to do it, and didn't have any errors. Thanks, though.

Do you have this phone? Factory reset in bootloader on an unlocked One XL results in a corrupt sd card.

Ok, well like I said before, do some more learning before giving out advice. I'm not trying to be mean, but giving advice when you don't know enough could have catastrophic results. For example: if this guy had followed your advice to factory reset in bootloader he would have lost all of the data on his sd card. I doubt you want to be responsible for that.

i flashed RUU_EVITA_UL_JB_45_S_Cingular_US_3.18.502.6_Radio_0.24p.32.09.06_10.130.32.34_release_signed_With_Partial rom, MIUI rom, tried factory reset using recovery, but had no luck.
this phone comes to me with deat boot (qhsusb_dload), i erase all flash memory and resurrect bootloader, imei, recovery, etc after.
now phone fully worked, but shows only 77%, shows charging with usb connect, but really did not charge, and wan't startup when battery low. think battery calibration losed after erase.
so if you can make backup on working phone - please give me.
sorry for bad english, my native language is russian
I'd love to, but I only have a small data allowance so I can't upload a file that big. I hope someone else sees this and can help you out though.

factory resetting from bootloader will load his recovery, and, I've tried RUU as well, and I don't think they will work unless you can access your phone, which I don't know if he can, I think I got mixed up with another thread.

I think you are mixed up about a great many things, and should not be dispensing advice.
What on earth does doing a factory reset in hboot have to do with getting into recovery? All it will do is bork up the SD.
