Galaxy S4 SPIGEN SGP Bounce Review - Galaxy S 4 Accessories

If you're looking for an ultra-thin TPU case for your brand new Galaxy S4, look no further. The SPIGEN SGP Bounce is the thinnest TPU case I've ever had. Although the somewhat sparkly back isn't for everyone, I believe it adds a little design flare that separates it from the sea of bland cases. It can be yours for only $10.99.
Stay tuned, we will be giving this case away this week!

Nice review. Do you have access to any other Spigen cases for the S4 other than this one and the Ultra Fit?
Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD

I'm confused...
Is the Bounce the same as the Ultra Capsule?

I purchased this case and received it today. I do not recommend it at all, I'll be returning mine as soon as I can get a different case.
Cons:
-- It's mentioned in the review above, but the case is loose on the S4, mine's so loose that the lip comes off the front face of the device fairly easily.
-- The seams around the case aren't smooth, feels cheap.
-- Slippery back, as slippery as the default plastic on the device.
Pros:
-- Slim, doesn't add much to the device.
-- Cutouts seem well positioned, including the IR blaster hole.
The pros don't really outweigh the con of the case not actually staying on the device.

We ordered at least two more SPIGEN cases, but they won't be in stock until the end of April or beginning of May.

The only difference I see is that the Ultra Capsule includes a screen protector and Jelly Bean Button(whatever that is). The site also states that the Ultra Capsule is shock absorbent, while the Amazon description for the Bounce does not. Oh, and the Ultra Capsule is $24.99 verses $10.99 for the Bounce.
We will review both cases.

Honestly, they're both about the same thickness. These two would be the thinnest cases so far.
The Bounce weighs 0.6 of an ounce and the Ultra Fit 0.5.

Correct. I have a Diztronic case on my desk that I'll be reviewing within the next few days, and I can say with certainty that the SPIGEN cases are thinner.

I have the white version of this case for when my phone arrives early next week. I hope it is not too loose like you've mentioned! Looks very nice as a case all in all.

The mic cutout on mine is right on center, no issues there.

UPDATE: I've had this case on my phone for one day (less than 24 hours). It has rubbed the silver paint off ~30% of the front rim of my phone. STAY AWAY from this case unless you want the silver paint on your phone rubbed off. If I can I'll post pics later. My brand new phone was pristine until this case. Bummer.

I knew that chrome dipped plastic lip would be a problem. If a TPU case is a problem already, I have a feeling any hard snap case will chew up the bezel pretty good.

The lip of the case which touches the phone feels very rough (I have a white one case on me).
I would not be surprised if the case is what caused that damage, shame on SPIGEN if so, I'm not gonna be using my case until this is sorted out.

Let us know how you like it when it arrives.
I like the extra corner protection. The case system seems like something from Aliens.
I had this case on my S3 for a few days before returning it, only because I didn't like the way the belt clip attached to the outer case. It's too hard to get it clipped in when the belt piece is still on your belt and you're trying to put the phone back in it. Also, I wasn't crazy about the clip piece being close to the screen. If this had a holster like Otterbox or a Seidio case I had for the S3, that would be much better IMO. Aside from the belt clip, the case itself is a solid Otterbox competitor, assuming build quality is the same for the S4 as it was for the S3.
I like the Trident Aegis case instead- just got one for my S4 and it offers the same protection without the bulky corners. I've had the Trident Aegis cases on my S2, S3 and now S4 and I must say its probably one of my favorite lines of cases.
Using the clip became 2nd nature after 2-3 days. I liked it because you could tell if the phone was on board without doing anything. What I didn't like is the ear opening cut off half the speaker and they didn't care.

I bought one for $30.99 on ebay. I have one on my s3 as well. I love the 360 belt clip and removable kickstand. Ordered mine on 5th, will be here on today.
Now I just need the phone.
Got this yesterday. Looks like a cross between an Otterbox Defender and an Element Case design. I really like it; pretty sure I like it more than an Otterbox Defender.
Pics:
Also, I discovered that the Kraken fits in the Arkon Galaxy Note 2 armband; I'm positive an Otterbox Defender case would fit also:
http://www.arkon.com/sports_armband/armband-galaxy-note.html
One of my previous Kraken cases use to drive me crazy when I wanted to put it on its back. Does the kickstand cause the case to rock when face up? Looks flush in the pics.
@Shady Gambino
looking at the pictures you posted and the pictures i posted;
why is there a bar that runs horizontally along the "SAMSUNG" text ?
i really hope the one i ordered doesnt have that bar.

If you look on the back, the top corners protrude, so the upper 2/3 of the case are in contact with a flat surface when you lay it flat. If you push down on the bottom, it will tilt, however.

Love my Kraken for the S3, wouldn't have anything else on an S4
ive used my kraken for ~4 days now and i love the protection it gives;
but man...
the beltclip was designed so god damn poorly;
its a real chore to get my phone snapped onto the damn thing.
Mine just arrived and I'm loving it. Better designed than the S3 case!

No. It is poly carbonate but has a small bit of texture and some louvers on the back (for heat maybe?). If you use the case without the back on it (Perseus) then it will have more of a silicone feel. Can't really compare this case to the Seidio Active because the Kraken is a Mil Spec case. Much more stout.
If anyone is interested I did a short video review of this case: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2288370

THIN case

Whats the thinnest case you have found for the S4? I've been looking at various cases, and they are all so thick ( I usually go naked.. ) but I would like to put something over it for drop protection ( so no, skins don't work ). And don't suggest any of the crap offered by SPIGEN, I'm done with that worthless company ( ALL support issues with them ).
ITSkins has the ghost and Zero.3, but neither is available STILL ( they where suppose to be on the 15th ) and you can't pre-order them either....
Everything else i find just says "Thin" or some other wonderful adj, I'd like a number and facts. Thin is subjective....

After everything I have read about Spigen, I am very hesitant to buy one of their products. The casemate looks pretty nice, but I don't like the openings on the top and bottom. I want a thin/light case, but I want a little bit of fall protection in it.
I've just got this one, loving it so far.

Serious recommendation: I was in the same boat, and didn't think I would find anything I liked. I happened to be browsing at BestBuy while my wife picked out case. I noticed some RocketFish branded cases that look really slim. Asked if I could try one on my phone and it fit like a glove, barely added any size to it, but definitely makes it feel like I'm not going to accidentally fling the phone across the roam just taking it out of my pocket.
I also have the Ringke Rearth ultra slim case - which was not only the thinnest I've seen, but also very cheap!
I keep the Spigen Neo-Hybrid case on my phone though - I had an S3 get nicked up at the bottom where the ultra thin rearth case didn't cover. Outside of the neo-hybrid I think the rearth cases are my favorites - considering I bought one for my S4 immediately and had one for my S3 I'd feel confident suggesting it.
I purchased both the Ringke Rearth Slim and the Spigen Neo Hybrid. While the Spigen looks nice it really does add a lot of width to the phone. The Ringke is easily the slimmest case that I have used for any phone. Not to mention it only cost $2. The matte black has also been great for adding grip. My only complaint is that the Ringke case is very difficult to remove.
I have a Spigen Ultrafit. Its pretty darn thin.
I like the matte finish.
Spigen Ultrafit
Edit: it is just thick enough the effectively recess the buttons to protect them from drops, plus it works with a tempered glass screen protector. AND...its only $10 shipped with Prime.

It would have to hit a very uneven surface...the corners are protected. You would have to drop in on gravel or a curb or something like a car door sill. If you drop in on tile or flat concrete it is impossible to hit the edge because of the gap created by the corners. I prefer minimal protection. My main concern is really protecting the corners back and front since those are what are going to hit 99% of the time. And the buttons...you can break the board connections (trust me I know, lol) if the phone lands on its buttons. I actually was thinking of going naked since the battery door can be replaced so easily and it is the entire back. Just a screen protector and a replaceable back. I have insurance. Also, I am a middle aged dad...I am not in the situations that you would drop a phone that often.
All that being said I will probably get another case at some point just because, lol.
I have the Body Glove phone case. Made of soft rubber for a nice all around grip. I purchased it at Walmart for $15. Link is for image of the case.

I had this case for my S3 and loved it......anyone know if there's a case just like this for the S4? I keep my phone in my pocket so I prefer the headphone jack and the charging port to be covered unless I'm using them.

I have the Ringke. It is very thin. I don't feel like it would do anything to prevent the screen from cracking. It would prevent scratches to the back though.
I now have a Chinese knock off neo hybrid. Add with the genuine. .. Pretty thin on the back but it does make the phone wider. I do feel like this will help obsorb shock in a fall.

Good case that doesn't add to much bulk?!

I always buy a case before I buy my device (I'm just weird like that lol)... so I'm looking for a good protective case that doesn't add to much bulk to my S5. Preferably is raised a littl (to protect against screen cracking if it falls), and also camera and LED flash are protected as well on the back.
Thanks in advance to any suggestions!
I highly recommend the Urban Armor Gear cases. I had one on the S3/S4 and they are great. Protected it from many drops and adds very little bulk compared the amount of protection. Mine for the S5 should be here any minute now (on truck for delivery).
I use Body Glove. It's slim and protects all corners. Also, it doesn't interfere with the fingerprint scanner nor HRM.
Had otterbox, too bulky. Then found Spivey NEO Hybrid case for nexus 5, amazing case, slim yet very protective (dropped nexus yet only little scratch on case but not on phone). Now use Spigen Neo for this phone, check it out.
While you're checking out the Spigen web site, also take a look at their Slim Armor and Tough Armor cases.
I've got a Tough Armor case on the way through the glacial US postal service. Hopefully, it'll show up tomorrow like the tracking information indicates.
SO far I have narrowed it down to these 4 cases, but not sure on the color yet!! But if anyone has any more recommendations to make my decision tougher, I'm all for it!! Looking for the best case that won't add to much bulk, but will protect my screen/device from falls, and also not interfere with the fingerprint scanner as well!

I've tried all of these at 1 point or another... the thinnest and best protection is and will always be a tight TPU.

So I have the UAG case. But I am finding that NFC doesn't work as reliably and the finger sensor is very hard to swipe correctly with the case because of the lip around the case/phone. So I may be returning it.

I have the Spigen slim armor on my phone and love it. I hate thick cases and usually find the thinnest I can. I went on a chance and love this one. IT is a very tight fit and adds minimal bulk. My wife bought an incipio and now wants my case as it is a lot less bulkier.
Take a look at the otterbox commuter series.

I had the NeoHybrid for the S4. I loved it for the first month, but after that the paint started wearing off tremendously on the edges. It was an official Spigen directly from them, so I was not too thrilled with that. They don't seem to dye the plastic, they paint it. At that time, they were also charging around $29+ for the case.
Something to consider, as I doubt they changed this for the S5. I might give their Tough Armor a try, as it doesn't have the edges of the NeoHybrid, so the breakdown shouldn't be as severe.

Got the Spigen Tough Armor today

Got the Spigen Tough Armor today for the Note 4. I have no phone to put it in yet but I wanted to share some pics and first impressions. My oldest son has autism so the kick stand will come in handy when he is doing his learning games while we are in ASD meetings or whatever. The outer case is plastic with an inner cushion shell. Seems well built except for the kickstand. It fell off in the actual package before I even opened it. After reading this is a common problem I snapped it back in place but the two hinges that hold it to the outer shell do not lock it in place. Its actually the inner shell that keeps it from falling out. Now the opposite end of the kickstand does snap in place so it wont just keep swinging around as you are using it. Still I would prefer it to be a bit thicker as it seems a bit on the flimsy side to me.
I am fairly confident that if I were to drop the phone on a hard surface it would survive without a scratch thanks to the case. Paid about 20 bucks on Amazon. eager to get the phone in it to see how the fit is.

I think I read that the phone has to be in the case for the Kickstand to work better.

To keep the stand from falling out yes. No doubt it will work better with a phone in it.
nice i ordered the same one earlier today how tough is the plastic shell? is it like the otter box? i have an otter box on my s3 right now and it has done well protecting it. does the plastic shell bend easy or is it hard?

Not as tough as otter box in my opinion. It flexes pretty easy without the phone in it. I would not sit on the phone even with this case. Too me the outer shell is just to add some rigidity to the overall case and keep the inner cushion tight against the phone.
you're looking for an UAG case if you want something that compares

i have the commuter series : http://www.otterbox.com/Samsung-Galaxy-S3-Commuter-Series/77-21092,default,pd.html?start=2&cgid=samsung-galaxy-s3-cases
so it would be this one for the note 4 but its not out yet http://www.otterbox.com/Galaxy-Note-4-Commuter-Series-Case/sam4-galaxy-note-4-set,default,pd.html
but this should do for now. should be enough to protect it.
I ordered Spigen [Perfect-Fit] Galaxy Note 4 Case.
But they sent me the Spigen [Tough Armor].
Been using mine for 3 days now. So far so good

Can you post more pics of this cafe on phone?
Sent from the TermiNOTEr 2! ?
I got mine in the mail today also. Ehh I like the case, but my only complaint is that the corner of the case seems to dig into to my hand which make things uncomfortable, does seem a little bit slippery to, but the main thing is the digging in the hand is no bueno for me lol. So im going to return it.
I have the Slim Armor version coming in soon! , but my favorite case so far is the Ringke FUSION Clear, I will Ringke SLIM Case soon to try out
do you notice any reception degradation from using a metal case?

When the stand is extended, does it feel like it puts alot of strain on it? The stand seems a bit flimsy to me
I got mine today as well. I agree the kickstand is a bit flimsy. Also, the lip around the edge does not cover the gap left by the lack of coverage from my Spigen screen protector. Rather annoying.
I have the same case.. For some reason I find it difficult to get the kickstand out. Takes a lot of messing with to extend it... maybe its because I don't really have long fingernails.
oops
Does this not fully encase the phone like the otterbox defender which also has screen protection

My Otterbox Defender experience is based on the HTC Evo 4G LTE and the Samsung Galaxy S3. I do not have the Galaxy Note 4 yet. It is scheduled to arrive latter today. I will update after it arrives.
The Spigen Tough Armor does not cover the front of the phone. It just covers the back, sides, top and bottom. The front is left unprotected. Think of the Tough Armor as the silicon outer shell of the Otterbox Defender. The Tough Armor also has the hard plastic piece that give the whole case a more rigidity.
It is not anywhere near as bulky as the Defender. I have not done nor to I plan on intentionally doing a drop test, but it does not "feel" as if I have the same level of protection.

Samsung Galaxy Note 7 Bumper Cases

EvolutiveLabs is currently experimenting with a design for a RhinoShield case (presumably a backless bumper case).
A RhinoShield case will be made for the new Samsung Galaxy Note 7. We are experimenting on a new design for this device. If you are interested in knowing more, please do subscribe to this list and we will keep you updated once we have more information.
The current release date is September. Pre-Order will start later this August.
Anyone that's interested in being notified on the latest news/pre-order/etc.. can sign-up here:

Looks like a decent case. I'll be looking forward to it.
Do any other backless bumper cases exist? I never found one for the Note 5 and would like to for the 7. The back on a bumper case is pointless and just adds thickness.

I ordered an Aluminum Backless Bumper from eBay a couple days ago. There's a few color options, but, I selected the black, should look nice with the Black Onyx model:

Looks sweet. Though, I'd like at least like a thin back with the honeycomb pattern they advertise for some minor protection, since it's all glass on the back, too.
Im afraid of this cause what if it lands flat on jts back? No protection at all.
I thought the whole point of a bumper was to be raised on the front and back so it can land on flat surfaces on either side and not damage the front or back. That's what makes it a bumper and not a regular case.

Please do. Thanks
Thinking about taking a razor blade to the back of one of these Ringke cases I got for $1 to see if I can make my own bumper case. If no one will make a real bumper, maybe we can at least find the fake bumper case that can be easily converted into a real bumper case.

I'll probably do likewise, the Poetic Affinity case comes to mind.
The EvoLutive Labs/RhinoShield bumper for the HTC 10 adds too much width in the grip.
Some complained about the stiffness of the buttons as well.
I have no problem w/the latter, but,I did find the added width was too much & mine ended up in the land of misfit phone accessories after 1-2 days of use, which was a bummer @ $30..............
This was my favorite case for the note 5, can't wait to try this out especially since they didn't make one for the SD Edge
Good news! The Ringke Fusion, Fusion Mirror, and Frame are all two different types of plastic glued together, so with some bending and a razor blade to start the cut, you can separate them and throw away the back pretty cleanly. I don't have my Note 7 yet to see if it still keeps the camera off the table, and I'm not sure how much I stretched it pulling them apart, but it looks to be exactly what I wanted. Picture attached. These were $1 or $2 with coupon on Amazon a week or two ago. The fourth one I have from Ringke, the Air, is all TPU with no clear line to cut through, so I'm not even going to attempt making that one backless.

Well the question now will be...how well it will hold the phone..since it's just tpu..
I would imagine taking it out of your pockets will dislodge it from your make-shift bumper case

You are correct. The Fusion and Fusion Mirror were too flimsy on their own. The Frame case, however, with its plastic reinforcement wrapping around the TPU, is pretty decent. If you're going to modify a case to turn it into a backless bumper, I recommend only the Ringke Frame of those.

Have you tried it with the frame or just guessing? I'm very curious if this will work because I don't like cases, I prefer bumpers.

I'm with you. It looks good for sure. But because of the lack of back support, I'll have to pass.
Although looking forward to seeing the pics.
The Frame does work and is sturdy. I'll take a photo soon. Not sure what the advantage of back support is. We don't have front support. We have the lip sticking out on both sides to protect both equally.
