Android apps installment - General Topics

When comes to apps selection in google play, android is now catch up with apps store from ios. However when comes to apps installment, android still lagging behind. Small apps are not problems to install, but when comes to big apps like HD games it's big problem. For example like Real Racing 3. I saw this game in google play, i download it then start the app. The app demand to download the game data so i allowed it. The problem is while doing such task, my android device can't be used for another task. I really jealous when ios user can download every apps they need via itunes and then just sync with their devices to install it. Imagine if i have 2 android devices, and i want to install 1 app to those devices that i have to download twice to those devices. And yes, all my android devices are rooted so titanium backup is ready. But the problem is an app that can run in 1 device can't run in another device because some problem like different screen resolution or gpu or even brand.
I dont own any ios devices and i like android alot. Android devices history like horse power races. Each year all manufactures race to sell more powerfull phone to market, but somehow can't be utilized to maximum potent because of fragmentation.
Tl:dr : is there any way to install large app via pc
Sorry for bad english
Thx

You can install apps on your phone using your computer by going to play.google.com. I haven't tried it with large apps but it works really well for small apps. You simply find the app, press install/buy and select which device it should be installed on.
You must be logged on your Google account for this to work.

That method only send order to download to your phone and the task to download is still done by the phone not the pc

[Q] Market... Website or Classic?

Which method of downloading and searching for apps do you guys use most now since theres finally a first party website for apps. Do you still use the market place app OR the website?
I've found the website to be unreliable. It never shows my installed apps correctly. It won't show even half of what is installed but it will show apps that I uninstalled three months ago. I've tried downloading six different apps from the site, none ever downloaded. Plus, I rarely use my laptop anymore since I can do most of what I need to do on my Evo just as easily.
So... the app.

Not sure why it matters what we used but I am going to guess both for most people. On your computer lets use the web. On your phone lets use the app. Since I use both I can't vote.
Website (mostly)
Reason:
1. Easier searching and browsing
2. Much easy to understand what the app is doing
3. No big issue in terms of installing, it's real fast, once I click ok in browser, the phone start to download near immediately.
Website when i'm at the computer. So most of the time.

Plainjane is right, the site is really unreliable, but only if you check your instqlled apps. I prefer the market on my phone, but it is easier to use the website's push install (especially when you want to install a lot of apps in a short time)
Sent from my GT-I5700 using XDA Premium App
The list of installed app on the website for me is broken beyond broken (shows every app I have ever installed instead of which ones are currently installed)
But I do use the website more. As much as I love my vision, I like the bigger screen size on my monitor
i use the web market of cause because it is so esay to use and totaly somoth
ya like others, i don't have any big issues with the web market. i like it & its UI. i mix it up from time to time tho
removed
Market on the phone. Mostly when I install the app I want to use it immediately. When going to the website it takes about 5 minutes between the time I push the install button and the installation actually happening on my phone.

Google increases the app size limit for Android Market to 4GB.

Google increases
the app size limit
for Android Market
to 4GB
06 MARCH, 2012
Developers for Android have had to work
around the crippling 50MB file size limit for a long time now. To take care of this
problem, many developer devised an idea where you first download a small
application from the Android Market and upon launching it will download the rest
of the files from the developer's server.
This came with its own set of problems.
The user would not be aware of the total size of the app before downloading it.You were also often unable to refund an
up, because by the time the additional data got downloaded, the 15 minute refund period for the app would be over.
To take care of this situation, Google has now finally increased the total application size limit to 4GB for the Android Market.
But it's a bit different than the way things work on, say, the App Store, for example. The total apk size for the Android Market is still 50MB but now the developer can have two additional expansion files that
can be 2GB each in size. The developer can store these expansion files on Google's servers instead of their own and they will get downloaded along with the apk file. Also, the user will be made aware of the final size of the app beforedownloading it.
One of the advantages of having this system is that when the time comes to update the app, the user won't have to download the entire thing again. Although the developers are free to use the expansion files whichever way they like,Google is advising them to use one of the expansion files to host all the importantdata and the other for updating
purposes. This way, when the app needs to be updated, the developer can only modify the second expansion file and the user will only have to download it instead of the entire 4GB application all over again. Think of it as being similar to the delta updates available on iOS.Of course, the user won't have to worry about or even know about these things
and the process or purchasing or
updating will remain identical. All of this expansion files business will happen
behind the scenes.
The advantage of using this method instead of the aforementioned method
currently being employed by the
developers is that the Android Market
allows downloads to run in the
background and will even let you pause
and resume the download. You can use
Wi-Fi or 3G to download these large apps
but if you use Wi-Fi and you move out of
coverage the download will automatically
be paused.
Hopefully, the developers will take to this new way of distributing large apps, which should make the lives of the users a bit easier.

good news particularly for Unity developers.
Sounds good, should make the game downloading experience better.
Yup.....TX
could this be for the Google play tablet that is rumoured ? Google increasing the limit to add more games in market before the launch for Google play tablet so that when it comes out Google can be assured that people will have games to play on it. It seems that Google did this for Google play tablet only.
It shall stop the pirated apps also

Just read an article about Mika Mobile stopping Android development.
One of their complaints was that even through the app limit has been upped to 4GB, it still means 50MB apps but now Google will host the downloads. So it is an improvement but still not perfect.
Personally I'm quite happy with the limits since it should prevent bloatware.

Google Play Store

Hi
how does one run Google Play Store from running whenever the F*&&@# it wants.
it only needs to run, when I want it to
This app is intrusive and a memory/process hog.
thx!!
haha yeah.. totally accept that.
its soo annoying.. and the same with maps too
If you want to prevent any app from running when you dont want them to, just install from google play "autostarts" its free, and there you choose which apps you want to prevent fron running
Sent from my SGH-I777 using xda premium
the autostarts, I'm looking at isn't free. that's fine.
i don't have a problem disabling auto start programs.
the problem is apps relaunching themselves, just like Google Play, which runs whenever it thinks it needs to.
background data/storage change/app update/diaper change/my girlfriends has a hang nail...etc
this app along with others are ridiculously intrusive.
i control my phone, not google or some app developer.

Gemini app manager is free and controls autostart properties for app.
If you use it you will see apps such as the play store are set to run when wifi state changes, when you delete an app etc, you can change these settings so it won't start in such situations.
It helps quite a bit.

Thanks! it is usefull for me! ^_^
Tried Genimi, it can be a little hard to navigate its UI but it has a lot of options. Unfortunately Google Play will undo about half of the autorun conditions you set the next time you launch it manually.
yes, i'm also using Gemini app manager, but as spunker88, mentions, google play will reapply it's settings, when it's launched manually.
once again software, doing what it wants...
i want know the google play apps install apk file download from android market ?
it runs in the background and barely uses any memory. it stays running so it can notify you if updates are available as well as to open and load quickly. its not really intruding..
i prefer to update manually
I don't recommend it but I suppose if it's really bugging you you could always try freezing Play Store when you're not using it. You could use App Quarantine and create a widget to freeze/defrost it with 1 click. Not sure if it's going to even work or how this will affect your phone so don't blame me if you screw up your phone.
no freezing...I'll kill it as needed...thx
This is another universal curse of Android.. And sometimes this crap calls itself a service etc to tryto skirt task managers.... This permission needs to be banned from android...
These apps are so small the newer phones don't even leave the developers the standard lame excuse of "quick loading"...
It's my bloody phone.. I'll give permission...
If your app doesn't work right or load quick on a dual core 1.5ghz chipset with 1gig of ram.. YOU DID IT WRONG..

if you actually notice the store hogging ram on a dual core 1.5ghz/1gb ram phone, you are insane.

It's a core Google app. If you want to stop it, root your phone, get a custom ROM, and don't flash Gapps. The phone is set to use Google Play for stuff like this, and barely uses any memory at all.
Stop complaining, and calm down. There are just some things you can't turn off on a phone...you know...kinda like on a computer.
PS: You can set apps to NOT auto-update in the app store settings.
I want running my android tablet ( the tablet running android 4.03 )
... I feel the same of the author of the topic..
If i want an app to run, i'll launch it.
Those answer are all blablabla.. i don't want app in background that i don't use. END.
For me it can drain even 0,001% of battery\ram but it's not the point.
Tried both gemini and autostarts.. as today..
Playstore old worked, the new one reset all settings and always on.
Maps work, but if u launch it , it will reset something, and u have to terminate the app from settings,apps..ecc.
With root must be a way to bypass those stupid apps from get permissions ecc..

[Q] What apps/services can I disable to save memory?

Hi,
Shield is not the smartphone, so many services/apps can be disable in order to rise the performance. I already disabled:
Browser (I use Chrome)
Calendar
Calendar Storage
Currents
Drive
Earth
Email
Exchange Services
Google Contact Sync
Google Play Books
Google Play Magazines
Google Play Movies
Google Play Music
Google Search
Google+
Hangouts
Hulu Plus
Youtube
Now my free memory is from 800 to 1300MB. What else can I disable?
There is any app that will close the apps when you run games? (right now I use Advances Task Killer, there is something better?).
Thanks
ps. one more question, do you typically shut down your console or just put it in sleep mode? Can I put sleeping console to it's case? Or it'll overheating?
Some good questions! I always power my device down fully. I'm not sure that it will make any heat when sleeping though.
I also would like like to know about "unnecessary" processes...
No idea why Nvidia using the stock android with all it's app for the phones. Shield isn't a phone.
We need some light version of Android with more free memory.
I disabled all the apps/services described above without any problems.
I can say I understand where Nvidia is coming from on this one. I use my Google+ account to sign into all the games, so I need that service. I also use the device to watch movies while on the road (via HDMI cable), so the Hulu+ useful to me. It appears to me that Nvidia pulled all the hardcore phone items like the "phone" service, but left in the things different people might use like calendaring and mail depending on how they choose to use the device. I personally have an iPad for calendaring and mail, so I disabled those in this device, but I can see how someone else might use them. My thought would be to create a sticky documenting what each service or item is used for and if it's safe to disable, then folks can choose for themselves. Just my 2 cents.
Forget about trying to free memory in android. It doesn't give any advantage. Is not like windows.

[How to] install apps on your Android Wear

How to install apps on your Android Wear smartwatch
>> By David [email protected]
1. Find your apps
Google has kindly put up a gallery of Android Wear apps on Google Play – most of these apps have been updated to provide something else on your wrist besides simple notifications. A growing number of them (including @here) have been built specifically for watches rather than phones, but are still installed through your mobile.
You can find the same selection from the Android Wear app on your smartphone: choose 'Browse suggested apps' from the front page of the app.
2. If you've ever installed apps on your phone then you can install apps on your smartwatch – the process is exactly the same for Android Wear apps whether you're using Google Play on the web or the Play app on your phone. Tap through the confirmation screens (and any payment information dialogs) to start downloading your chosen app. Apps specifically built for Android Wear will be transferred over automatically and won't show up as icons in the list of apps on your smartphone.
3. If you want to run an app from your watch, with the new Lollipop 5.1 update there is a new list of apps to choose from before you hit the old actions list - just tap any app to start using it. The menu is the first list that comes up when you swipe to the left before contacts.
Most apps also come with a voice command you can use as an alternative way of launching them (check the app descriptions for details).
4. Watch navigation and Launching from your phone, Setting up notifications>>Setting up default apps
Good tut
Thanks for the tutorial. Very easy to follow.
How to install apps on your Android wear
Soon I'm planning to hit a purchase to android wear smartwatch & the informative content that you have posted will be helpful for me in future.. Thanks a lot for the same.
Useful information. But will it work, if I am using a modified version of Android. Like I am thinking about having a Block Modular Smart watch.

Can I just say what a relief to find someone who actually knows what they're talking about on the internet? You definitely know how to bring an issue to light and make it important. More people need to read this and understand this side of the story. I can't believe you're not more popular because you definitely have the gift.
