[Q] Updating the firmware - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

I am 2.20 rooted, supercid, and s-off'd and I want to update to the newest radio. How do I go about that? And should I?

Again, another one who is rooted AND s-off, obviously didnt do any reading. I just don't understand, if you can execute the first test, why not the next steps?

Smh, I can't stand these nerds who reply without a answer. You respond to post with a question to make you feel what? Have y'all ever thought that someone just doesn't understand and want tall to put it in simpler terms. Noob proof as you would call it. I go to the q & a to ask a question and expect to get answer. I ain't reading 20-300 posts in one thread. I even asked should I update it. I can't stand when people answer only one part of the question. I appreciate the reply from the first dude. I've been in there and don't know what to flash. And if I should.

First off, we all learned by reading. Too simplify it, it depends on what ROM you have. If are on a ROM based off of sense, then choose that. If not choose aosp. Simple. Obviously you want AT&T, right? Don't make it harder than it already is.
Sent from my Carbon-ize Evita using xda-developers app

What he said. Sense radios for Sense ROMs, aosp radios for aosp ROMs. It's a matter of trial and error for what works best in your area, and which radio gives you a combination of good performance and good battery life. If you're with AT&T you don't necessarily need to use the AT&T radios. I'm with Telstra in Australia but I'm using the AT&T 3.18 radio and it works beautifully for me. In saying all that, is there anything wrong with your current radio? What is triggering you to think you need to change it?

Lol!! Sorry Gary for sending u here! Didn't think u would get flamed in q&a...guess if u were gonna get flamed might as well have posted in development! Jk. But OK I own n use a evo 4g lte. And we have firmware bits from the ota's. With things cut out like hboot recovery tp.img etc. It was also like this for my evo 3d. Since the one x n evo lte r almost the same phone I figured that the one x would also have a firmware thread. I saw the radio thread n that's cool but ota's have more than just radios in them from my limited understanding there r system wide improvements in otas. I did a mytouch 4g slide and u had to pull hboot n recovery yourself from the ruu then flash firmware. Is this a option? Aren't these things supposed to make your phone better. Just would like a better understanding from someone who has been here for a year. At&t BTW. Thanks for any help!
Sent from my EVO using xda app-developers app

I am on at&t. I updated to the latest radio and did not see an improvement. As a matter of fact it was worse. I had to change settings to turn off lte auto. Would drop signal when connecting to different towers. If you plan on staying in one place it may improve your signal but if you have a 1.85 radio tower, it will make it worse until you change settings. My advice is if it's not broke, don't fix it.

My boy told me to update to the newest firmware and it said in a thread all these radios and I didn't want to flash just any cuz I don't want to brick my phone. I already bricked a xperia tl, doing something that I didn't know what I was flashing, so I asked a question in THE Q&A!!!! I'm pretty sure 8/10 questions in the q&a have already been answered. And I didn't get flamed. That's just how these people are.
Sent from my One X using xda app-developers app

I would just like to state that no one is flaming or being harsh. But this forum gets same questions asked over and over and over again. Which is why a frequently asked question thread has been posted. Now the community expects you to read that, and then of you STILL don't understand, then people we help. But if your first post is "how to root" no one is going to tale your seriously.
Why do you think there is a minimum post count? To get you used to searching and finding answers of the same question.

This is the ruu/firmware that I'm used to doing with all HTC phones I've had. This phone may b different n that's OK. There are more things in the ruu than just a radio. I obviously wouldn't want hboot n recovery to b flashed but the rest yea. Just prefer to b up to date as possible. Could it b possible that people have problems with new radios because they don't have the rest of the firmware that came with the radio??

No because all you're updating is a "driver" which would be independent of other hardware or drivers. A driver is only dependent on the hardware installed and not on other drivers.
It is possible however that certain roms perform better with certain "drivers".

Some people have had problems with wifi because the new base isn't fully compatible with older firmware. Flashing the new wifi firmware solves the issue. What's going on exactly, I don't know, but I had the issue and running the 3.18 ruu fixed it.
There's no harm in being fully up to date; you just need to be s-off before doing it.

SMH, I dont get people. Why do they respond without an answer? Really, Why? It was never YOUR problem, none of yall. Its mine, SO I come to XDA to find an answer not to have debates and arguments. If anyone one can just say flash this one ........ then post so I can end this thread, otherwise your wasting your time by wasting mine. I have to come here to see if I got answer but i get something totally irrelevant to my question. Im not going to respond to anymore comments other than the answer I am looking for. I rooted and flashed cuz I want to be different than everyone else. Strive53 put me up on flashing. If he doesnt know the answer then he'll tell me ask on XDA and thats what I did. Instead of researching for hours trying to find the answer, WHY NOT ASK?? I dont care if someone asked before, because alot of you dont give str8 answers. read the recent posts and youll understand. Only one of you wanted more info from me about my phone.

The problem with your question is there IS NO STRAIGHT answer, every phone reacts differently to different software/firmware combinations. Flash some radios and see which one works best. If you're radio is working fine right now, don't flash any radios. THE END.
The problem with doing things ignorantly, as you have now seen, is that you don't even understand the complexity of your question and as a result can't understand the answers.

Says AT&T 1.85 right there on the page. At least I think it does. Its kinda fuzzy and hard to read.

I was with Tmobile and had the G2x and I have to say so far I loved that phone. I left Tmobile because there coverage sucks where I live at so I switched to AT&T to the Atrix and that phone was ok. Well my dumb azz dropped in water, so I used my G2x since I had it unlocked until I found someone to trade my G2x for the Inspire.

Exactly man! Believe me when I say it I was a huge noob when it came to this phone (i.e. see my noob debacle in flashing radios in the thread I created when I first became a member) since then and by applying a reading level above the 4th grade, I've been able to educate myself and eliminating the need for pointless threads that have been created and locked and created and locked and created and locked over and over and over again, you kinda see how that gets annoying from time to time

[Q] HTC Inspire Root

Hi all,
first of all I just wanna admit that I am an inept in rooting androids. My friends told me to root my HTC Inspire to CM or some such like that.
I'm not sure if this is a new thread for you guys, but it is for me. I've come to this decision based on the fact that my htc inspire is becoming like crap, hopless, and without a doubt, sh!t can. AT&T won't give a damn anymore about the software updates, so I've decided to take care of business myself.
I've been doing some research regarding rooting the android and I've come across this. I'm still not sure how the whole process works.
Anyone care to help a helpless/hopless brother out?
Thanks
Well the AAHK is the tool you need to root. But before you try it, I would suggest spending some time reading this forum and learning exactly what rooting and custom ROMs are all about. Understand the process, what can go wrong, and how to fix it if it does. Everything you need to know has already been discussed here and it's expected that you search for the answers you need.
Once you're ready to root, read the OP of the thread that you linked to. Then read it again. Download the tool and read the "effin manual" that is included. Do exactly what it says in the manual. The steps are simple but very specific. If you don't prep the computer properly you're going to run into problems.

The Hack Kit is awesome and works beautifully, but you have to understand what you are doing. If you fail to read and understand de process and what is required to achive the root access then you will probably get jammed.
The question is why your cell sucking?? if you are experiencing freezes or lagsm then be carefull that you don´t actually have a hardware issue. If your cells sucks just because you got tired of it then go ahead and you will have a lot of new feautres to add and to install to it.
Read carefully and follow instructions. If you are stuck then hit the IRC channel...

The Ace Hack Kit is definitely the easiest way to root. I can tell you when I first got an Android phone I read up as suggested here and was able to root successfully and progress from there over the past year and a half. Cheers.
To the. Op there is like a million threads on the how to root inspire phone. I can post back like 10 threads asking the same thing. Like the members say read and research and read more and more ... read the hack kit like 20xs so you understand it. Everything you ask like rooting roms how to flash roms making back ups. Radios and rils are all or been posted so research would hate to see a new member get *****ed at for not reading or watching that video when you sign up.

I rooted my phone 3 days ago and took out most of the bloat ware. From my experience thus far, the knowledge here is right on. I spent 5 days reading and using the search button like a mad man. I found all my answers, so far.
Download the Advanced Ace Hack Kit, inside there is a manual, it's called Effen Manual, read it. I read it three times and the instructions were spot on. It took literally just under 6 minutes. Just read the manual and use the search button it works. I haven't had to ask any questions yet.

It's truly a very enjoyable experience to learn what your phone is capable of once you've released it from the cuffs of ATT. I bought my Inspire on the day it came out for ATT in Feb 2011. After rooting and getting all of the benefits, I still haven't found a reason to buy a new phone..

Noobs take note, this is how it's done.
Saved and Texan by the grace of God, Redneck by choice.
Here's another tip, before you start another thread when you can't get it to work in Windows. Follow the instructions for the Ubuntu method.
OmI'm another one that used the ace hack kit for the first time a week ago. I researched for probably a good month before I even downloaded it and read the effin manual. By the time I got to that point, I already knew what I was getting into for he the most part. I ran into a couple hiccups along the way, but the effin manual literally had all the answers I needed. I just either didn't read carefully enough or somehow overlooked some details. After rooting, I waited and researched for about another week before I decided to flash the ics from in the development section. Did that successfully without a hitch also. And remember, this is my very first time rooting a phone.
What I'm just trying to say is that all the info is definitely out there/here. Just be patient, read and don't rush it.
its all in the hack kit. read the effen manual and then read it again then it will go smooth as butter. dont try to rush and dont be afraid. you will be pleased with the results.

Anyone downgrade P6200 from ICS to HC 3.2?

I want to flash the Open Austria ICS ROM on my P6200 but I'm just a bit worried about reverting back to stock HC 3.2 if it doesn't work properly for some reason.
Has anyone here successfully gone from ICS to HC 3.2?
I know with my SGS2 going from ICS back to GB I had to flash a .pit file (Took ages to figure out) so I'd like to get my ducks in a row before attempting anything

@robyr, yes, I did search but could not find anything. Your sarcasm is definitely not appreciated, if you can't point me or anyone else in the right direction (Either by linking me to an answer to my question or answering it in the thread) rather not reply to the thread as you're of no help at all. Guess your post count is +1 though huh?

First effing result on Google. Am I just superman or something? Don't even give me that "Oh, I searched I just can't find any thing!!!!!" crap.
Its a deflection because you got called out.
The first "effing" result is for the P3113 NOT the P6200. Futhermore it has nothing to do with what I'm asking about in my thread as the guy wants to know if he can install HC on his tablet that ships with ICS to which the answer is he can't. Can you see the second result in you LMGTFY link? It points to this thread. Imagine how many people this thread would help in future?
Superman? Definitely not. Troll? Yes.
If you have nothing worthwhile to contribute to a thread why do you post in it? The report button is there, use it if you feel the thread should be deleted and let the mods handle it.

I did it using Odin3, just dump the HC stock ROM back in to replace ICS, and then I installed the CWM (Garyd9) and restored the backup. I have P6210 though. No any problem.

For one thing, most personal Google search results are going to be at least a little bit different. Expecting them to be exactly the same or to have the same order is silly based on the way Google has been personalizing/tailoring results to individuals for years now. BTW, this site also has its own search engine.
For another, I have to agree that you did not try very hard if you could not find this information on your own. Please put some effort into it. This forum is becoming a disaster lately because of how many different threads and posts contain the same or similar questions/answers/content. Please do your best to not contribute to this problem. Thank you.

Exactly. The fact that people keep posting the same exact post in pretty much ANY thread on ICS or otherwise just serves to muddle our indexing of the forum anyway. I for one am tired of seeing ZERO effort in trying to learn before doing. No one owes this service to you, and if you can't even take the time to research why should anyone help you modify a device that is perfectly good. It's not as if these people are going to give back to our community by way of development or knowledge, since they can't even take the time to do the due diligence on the procedures to reduce bricking THEIR devices in the pursuit of the "cool new thing."
People like this are also the first in line to ***** and moan when they break something after not reading and researching.
Well i like to tell u all that wen i downgreaded back to HC 3.2 my p6200 dosent want to accept any other firmware and its stuck in download mode cant even vet to recovery i will try another software tonight hope it will work pray for me people cause that problem is making me very depreaset

Damn, that sucks. I upgraded mine to ICS yesterday and everything's running smoothly, just hope nothing happens to it till ICS is out in my country as it's going to be a mission sending it in for repairs if I can't revert back to HC.
Does your tab get detected by Odin and are you using v1.85? Maybe flash it with ICS again then see if you can go into recovery and do a wipe then flash HC?
I tried to flash back ICS but still no hope it got stuck on the triangle dowload mode i will be getting my tab back hopfuly tonight and am gonna try himedell the problem is that it gets stuck on a certen part with odin then the tab just dies i realy need an expert thanx for cheering me up pray for me please people.

I do not know about you, but I would give CM9 a shot, most things are working. I tried to flash over to Touch Wiz ICS and the battery life for me personaly was not so good. I was faced with a partial wakelock that I could not solve. No such problems with Aorth's CM9. Give it a go. If you have already flashed to TouchWiz ICS, you should at least downgrade back to honeycomb first before trying CM9. I know that they do not talk about the emmc bug on this device a lot, but always better to be careful.

How true, XDA Dev in the beginning (when it really was all about the O2 XDA & Imate devices) was a place you went and asked questions, and often dumb questions, but someone politely answered you.
Now the place seems overrun with officious types, who seem to live here, and have become purists to the point that only questions never before asked are entertained.
It would be better if those on short-fuses simply refrained from answering if all they can offer is sarcasm.
I personally always search Google with my problem, and if some routes come to XDAdev I read them but am no longer comfortable posting here, because of the style police.
I presume @chickenbeefZA is based in ZA. A far more welcoming community are the MyBroadband Forums. I've rarely seen any snobby behaviour there & you will usually be helped, not harassed.

I actually like TouchWiz on the Galaxy Tabs, hate it on phones though :<
Don't seem to have any problems with the official ICS ROM so will just stick with it.
Will keep the ICS -> HC -> CM9 in mind if I do flash CM9.
Thanks.

Exactly! I actually do frequent MyBB (Username there is Silverlight ) and the community is quite friendly and helpful. The Android community is not as big as the one on XDA of course and it may take a day or two to get an answer to your question but all that matters is that you do eventually get an answer without having to entertain trolls.

I am sorry

So guys I have been very cranky as of late. I want to say that I am sorry.
There is way to much going on in here that is not making us devs feel very good about helping, and it is making some people very cranky. That is no excuse, so I want to applogize for being a real PIA in last week.
Now, to all those that keep posting new threads for anything they feel like, like I just did here , we will report you from now on, with out any reply to your threads until you get the picture, no more arguing about it, no more posting links to the rules.
Now I do have some good news, this leak is not all bad we have found an insecure bootloader in it. it is labeled as an NS bootloader, go look it up. I am doing a whole crapload of research right now, so I am not ready to share much, just that we have found something, just not sure exactly what the use is yet. This NS BL is how they unlocked the OG Atrix. Keep your fingers, toes, whatever else crossed that I can figure out how to flash it.
Here is a screenprint of the files in the ATT leak, if you notice the file name mbmloader_ns.bin, that is a "non-secure" bootloader "loader":

+1 for the ns bootloader !
Dun worry abt anything else Jim, you just keep doing what you feel right.
just too many frustrations on either side.. the long ICS wait made everyone anxious, which turned into excitement when we finally got it and the bricks got a few pissed off and many worried.. I guess everyone needs to relax now and stop making unnecessary posts and if u have anything worth sharing regarding this then just PM the devs.

Thanks Jim. Nice post. I was beginning to worry about the xda Atrix 2 scene here haha. As long as cool heads prevail i have no doubt all efforts will come to fruition. The Atrix 2 is a real sleeper and a bargain for most of us here as well a nice piece of hardware. It would be a crime not to crack the bootloader code.
mbmloader_ns.bin?

Edit: I'll test if you need, just let me know if I can help!

Since you've found this Jim, I've had one question that's been pondering me since being on this ICS leak. Under developer options there is a development devise id. MOTO has promised time and time again that they are going to give the option to unlock the bootloader (which we all have heard too often and now is the boy who cried wolf) but they have again stated this with future phones being possible. Do you think this development device id could tie into that and be something like what HTC is doing? I may be grabbing at straws but why is this id even here??

That id is there, because this is an engineering release, not a standard leak... we were not meant to get this, and it did not have any "silver bullet" like several thought. I spoke to the mobile design group at my client today and they have confirmation that the fxz thing is just a part of the no going between major releases thing that android has ALWAYS had.
We will most likely need that dev id when and if we unlock the BL with the NS version. More research still is needed and I am early in my hunt, so once I have more I will share.

Those are only 1 link in the chain, so we will still need to do a math crack against the BL files, and that can be used for 1 link in the chain, but with out more links in the root CA, it is really pretty useless.

10-4 that..... If you need any help running randoms you got my processor support.....
No hard feelings here Jim, and thank you for your continued research and hard work on this device.
I never owned the OG atrix but my limited understanding to unlock that device is there is an SBF file (system boot file) that was first flashed using RSD and then you boot into fastboot and i'll just quote:
___________________________________________________
Type the following command:
fastboot oem unlock
You will now receive a warning along with a unique device ID
Type the following commands using your unique device ID in place of the ####:
fastboot oem unlock ####
fastboot reboot
________________________________________________
Now what I wasn't sure about, was this SBF file provided by Motorola or did a hacker/dev create the SBF file?
And does it seem like the process is similar for this device?
My apologies if my questions are way off, I have a round about understanding of all this, but not a deep knowledge like some of you.
EDIT: one more question, do we even have the ability to flash SBF files at this point? (heard them referred to as "pudding files")
I read that replacement og atrix's were locking down of this capability

Your thread tuning into a flame war, was really the big reason why I posted this, that and all the other crap I dealt people in the last week, with all the ICS mess. I never meant for your thread to end up like it did, I made my first posts before you even had the poll up... LOL... I prolly should have waited unitll it was up to see what it was really all about, and yeah it would have been nice to know, but I think the timing was just bad.
Sorry about all that again.
That unlock stuff you posted is all from the Xoom, unlock method since it was a google experience device.. I know i have one and I had it unlocked before I ever got it into my house (in the parking lot when I bought it).
That will not work for us, since our BL has no unlock feature. We will have to figure out how to flash the NS bootloader and what efuses we need to trip to make it work.

I gotta say, your post title sucks. You have come and posted in the Atrix2 forum, where you have people who own and use and develop for this phone, and we all have a little pride in our choice here.
It sounds to me like you should do some searching on here. There are ways to OC your phone if you so choose, but I would guess you have a rouge app right off the top of my head, and I would start there, before trying any OC, maybe even CM10 or MM might also help before trying to OC.
Oh and questions belong in Q&A.
Now next time you post please think about what you are posting and who you are asking for help... in otherwords, a little attitude adjustment will get you way more respect and help... but saying right off the bat first thing, that this phone sucks, makes people want to reply with "Well then go get another phone, like maybe an iphone".... so keep that in mind.
you could always search, cause most of the performance related topics are already covered in here, and then maybe ask someone for help in the Q&A section before creating a new thread in the wrong section.

i see this phone is good in hardware and finishing, and the stock rom's / kernels can utilize the hardware power and manage memory in very good ways

Agreed, this phone rocks, your post sucks. As it hurts my eyes seeing it waste space on our forum. Learn some manners and have some respect for us who actually like this phone and could care less what anyone thinks. And again if your on this forum you should at least have the knowledge to know the difference between general topics on the device or Q&A (questions and answers) on the device... Just saying. I motion to have this thread deleted/locked by our newfound moderator(s). It's an insult to the great work that the dev team has done for this device to come in and post such an inane, pointless, substance starved thread about why this phone "sucks". Perhaps if you feel as such, you should refrain from pointing any fingers, because there's always three fingers pointing back at YOU. Realize this: you bought the phone, and had every opportunity to act upon your due diligence (or lack thereof) to research the device, its capabilities, its limitations, etc. When you make statements (and posts/threads, and so on) here in the community where people have spent countless hours working on it to make it what is has become that are as crappy as you have, it won't bode well for you at all. Try getting any support on a ROM that you flashed and subsequently deem "sucky", and see where that gets you. Have a shred of decent decorum around the forum.
/end rant
Amen and well said. +1
I think it's quite opposite, this phone doesn't suck, it blows other phones out the water, performance wise.

Okay, you didn't mean to irk anyone, fair enough. But, what you should have done was at least had taken some time to really see what all this phone is capable of, before sluffing it off and saying it "sucks". I don't know how long you've had it, but seems like if you would make such a statement about the phone, you clearly hadn't taken the time to see its potential. You have to understand also, people have devoted countless hours to making this phone what it is, and claiming that it just "sucks" is certainly going to rub many people the wrong way. I personally will disagree with you with that claim, as would many others, and I have the SGSIII, as well as the Atrix 2. Both of which are great phones...
