Usb OTG - Galaxy Note 8.0 (Tablet) Accessories

Just tried out my generic usb otg I bought off of amazon for my note 2 and it works flawlessly.
If anyone needs the link I can post it up. It was pretty inexpensive.

Thanks for the tip. After reading this I popped mine in and it automatically recognized it. Another reason to love this little device lol.

some phones don't have power-out on their micro usb ports, and don't support OTG cables as a result. if you're referring to the note (2 or 8.0), then carry on.
an OTG cable really is a worthwhile accessory for the 8.0, though. it's as good as having a second micro sd slot. more storage options is never a bad thing.

Given that the Note 8.0 lacks nfc, I consider otg to be the most convenient method of transferring files between my note 2 and the tablet.

Have you tried using "WiFi Direct" to transfer files between the two devices? It's lightning fast! Faster than the USB/OTG.

Thanks I was debating on whether or not to get this, found it on Amazon:

I bought a USB OTG cable locally here in South Africa for the equivalent of $2. Its works perfectly and its able to power my WD 2TB 2.5" drive no problems. Also powers my WD 500gb 2.5"

Have not tried NTFS myself but can't think of a reason it wouldn't work if NTFS is supported by Android.

Thanks for the reply man. Hmmm..bought a OTG cable yesterday and tried to connect my 1TB HDD.The HDD powered up just fine..but i can't find the HDD in ES File Manager. Any ideas? I tried searching the net but found only references on android being able to natively read only FAT HDDs, hence my first question.

8.9 Usb adapter + 2,5mm HDD

I have one of those cheapo China USB adapters.
It works fine recognizing my storage when i hook up a pendrive but now i tried it with an external 2,5mm HDD and it didn't get recognized. im guessing the tab doesn't provide the HDD with enough power for it to run.
here my question: is it just my cheapo china usb adapter? does someone have the official samsung one and could try it out and see if external drive (without power chords) are supported?
would be awesome!
No, it won't work, there's simply not enough amps to power that.
I suggest getting a powered USB hub then making a battery pack for it (I'll get around to taking a picture of mine - I use it with my N900 and 8.9 with USB HDDs, DVD drives and USB data cards.)
yeah i imagined sth like that.
i have a usb hub but i was hoping to just use the drive by itself.
would be interesting to see your battery pack hack! please post some pictures!
Looking forward to seeing this battery pack
I have tried it a couple of times but the battery pack i made did not last very long
Why would you need a hub? Most come with a dual USB cable. Plug the main one into the tab adapter and the other one into a battery pack with USB. Should be a touch less cumbersome and you don't need to build anything, unless you really want to.

Skyrocket MHL / JIG / OTG Cables ?

Hello team
Just been searching through and ive seen a few good hand of people discussing the adapter working well for the Samsung Galaxy SII Skyrocket by AT&T . Was really hoping some people could point me to an excellent cable that works. I saw so many online, i just wasnt sure which one would work correctly , or most importantly work well
Would like links for MHL and a OTG cable if possible. Thanks in advanced for help
Phone currently running SKY ICS
A little bit of searching and i found these. Any thoughts/

Its designed to work for any of the GALAXY based phones by Samsung. Thats what i was told at least. And it worked great with mine if you saw the above video i posted :silly:
I appreciate you posting this. Was just researching on the OTG as well. Ordering mine from Amazon now. Already had the mhl for 6 months. Was worried that the otg cable would not power a thumb drive. Now I know. Thanks!
Yup sure does, i tried both FAT32 and NTFS Flash drives... Next up is external HDD
Now i need a transformer or a Tab 2
For a USB powered external hdd you need a powered USB hub. If you plug in the hdd directly into the otg cable it does not work.
If your hdd has its own power supply then it works directly.
The phone battery is not enough to power the hdd.

Ok. Its just that unlike Samsung galaxy s3 (onwards) the nexus 5 cannot power mechanical drives through its USB host port. I expect you'd need a powered USB hub to power and use a mechanical drive.

Hardware as far as I know. The S3 was the first that could do this without external power. Not all devices follow suit. Mechanical parts require a lot of power compared to flash

Is your drive in NTSF format? Android only recognizes FAT32. Try a drive formatted as FAT32 and see what happens.
I am using my 1TB WD harddrive(ntfs).
It works fine with StickMount. I never needed external power source.
But it eats the battery extremely fast at almost 1%-2% per minute.
But the USB-Y cable should work fine for powering usb hard drive.

SD Storage solution

While not as good as having an SD slot - this could be of some help. I'm sure you wouldn't leave it hanging all the time and most likely have to remove it to charge if your not using wireless charging.

I promise I'm not griefing but rather curious.... I am extremely satisfied with the 100 gigs of storage you get with OneDrive when you buy the Note 5. Any of my large files I have put in the cloud or if they are videos I either upload them to social media or put them on my PC for editing and don't forsee an issue with the 32 gigs of onboard storage. I guess I'm just wondering what sort of data an SD device like this accounts for due to a lack of expandable memory.
