Hello all,
I have had my TF700 corrupt two Sandisk 64GB Micro SD class 10 cards beyond repair. chkdisk and reformatting are useless as the drive becomes unrecognizable in multiple computers. 32GB cards work just fine. Is anyone else having similar issues?

If these are SDXC cards, I've had a similar issue. This was resolved by using the official SD Association formatter utility. I had two cards which showed as "Bad Disk" in MiniTool Partition Wizard but by using the formatter I got both back working.
You can download it here: https://www.sdcard.org/downloads/formatter_4/

I got the program and reformatted "Full". Started to copy some files and get an error that the disk cannot be read. I close windows explorer, click on the drive letter and no disk is found. Sigh...
Thank you for your response as I will use this utility in the future.
Last piece of advice: it is NOT the TF700, but MiniTool that *****s up your memory cards. We've had lots and lots of reports, but Mistar Muffin (the OP of the data2sd thread) apparently rejects to update his opening post and recommendations on the matter.
Use Gparted instead (comes on a bootable ISO to boot, so even under Windows you won't even have to install it), and away with your problems.

Marty,
I do not use data2sd, minitool or Gparted. I do use Browser2SD. Could that be it?

I had a card corrupted by MiniTool, but Mistar Muffin has updated his OP in the data2sd thread. It now mentions to use GParted, a much better utility.
The TF700T is not known to corrupt cards. I'm using a 64GB class 10 Sandisk microsd with data2sd and no issues for months.
For a faster browser, just use Firefox, instead of doing stock browser hacks. I've just always found Firefox gives me less issues than the stock browser with or without browser2ram.

No, and you didn't say anything to make me think you did: I replied to KingFisherUK to avoid someone else picking up MiniTool and having their microSD cards crap out on them as well.
It may depend on how you formatted it. Browser2ram -- which I think you mean -- is not exactly known to throw up severe errors, and if it is not installed correctly it will just plainly not work.
Still, I'd get the gParted ISO and try to recover your dead cards. I did the same with mine, and although it took a harrowing evening -- seriously, I will not repeat it if I can help it :S -- I did get it to work again...

To each his own, apparently, for I have found Firefox sluggish. Really sluggish. Stock browser on CROMI(-X) gives much better results on the web sites I visit regularly. And I actually do notice a speed increase with browser2ram. There are way too many variables at work here, I guess, to make a blanket recommendation that will fit all.
PS: the same goes for Chrome, Dolphin, Boat, and all the other browsers I have used (and sometimes loved) in the past.
Had also the described problems. These could be resolved through Windows chkdisc (important: the check may take very long - you may actually think that chkdisc does not respond any more - just be patient and wait!).
My failure was quite interesting and I got screwed for a new card even thought the old one is under warranty as its only about 6 mos old. The card still basically works but is unreliable and semi-dysfunctional. All the usual diagnostics indicate both corrupt files and file system/bad track 0, but somehow the ro bit for the entire disk (card) /dev/sdc got hard set, but not exactly. I could create files and directories on-device, copy from the card but not to the card with a PC, and could not delete anything nor format/partition the card. Its now one-way storage. 64 GB of my life locked on a flash card. I will destroy it myself. That way I know it got done.
I tried everything including GParted, the official SDCard Formatter (Windows), DOS, Linux dd and the advanced one (forgot the name) for sensitive data used by the DOD and FBI to recover erased data. I even tried Wii, Xbox, and some manufacture of the controller chip for the cards (forgot the name). All my data is still on the card despite my best effort to destroy it; the wire for the erase/format signals must have fractured under heat or over writing and I fear not RMA it because it has personal data including complete backups, IP sensitive business documents, photos, contacts, emails, and my last 3 years tax returns not to mention a music and video library. For a buck a gig I can rest easy that the chip won't make it to a dumpster or get lost in the mail, then found and my identity stolen or hacked. Even though it probably wouldn't happen, it could and that's enough to keep me up at night. Is just not worth the risk. I just replaced it with a Patriot some size/class/speed on sale and its working fine. My case could be a statistical insignificance, but after getting burned by Sandisk, I'm questioning whether their quality has dropped after they grabbed market share and some of their competitors might be where the quality is at now? Well see how the Patriot does in comparison. It shouldn't be too hard to beat 6 mos.
Read this. They've recently upgraded their firmware due to some data corruption problems on newer devices (like TF700T?).

If I leave my 16gb mem card in my phone without taking it out, it never corrupts. As soon as I start unmounting it and using it in my tablet and going back and forth, something is causing the card to corrupt.
Thank God I back everything up the the cloud or my hard drive at home or I'd be pretty pissed off.
Is this happening to anyone else? Any suggestions of what is causing this?

I've already replaced this card once. Either the manufacture is crap or something inside android on one of my devices is corrupting them. Maybe they aren't unmounting correctly.

Are these SD cards brand-name items purchased from a reputable vendor?
Or, are they cheap discount $5 cards purchased from a 3rd-party vendor via Amazon or Ebay?
If they're the cheap no-name $5 cards, they're probably piece-of-crap 2GB cards made to look like 16GB cards.
Try this out. It repaired my "damaged" SD car Sometimes the filesystem on the card gets corrupted. It can happen for example if the card was ejected while a file operation on it was in progress. When that happens you might have trouble accessing some of the files, loading times for some directories in file explorer may be very slow. You can attempt to fix it using the desktop windows' built-in chkdsk utility. Open up command prompt (start->run->cmd.exe) and type chkdsk /X /F <SD card drive letter> My SD card reader is X:\ drive, so i wold use the following command: chkdsk /X /F X: SD card reader is recommended, but probably not necessary because it should also work with WinMo's built-in USB mass storage function or wm5torage.
Under linux you can check/fix the card's filesysterm and in some cases undelete a file using fsck.vfat or dosfsck (single tool, two possible names). Refer to its help for more details.

I would make sure you get nothing less than a class 6 card. 1) its faster (6MB/s for class 6) and 2) the faster cards are usually better quality. Just my experience with sd cards and data integrity on them.
I have a feeling I may somehow be pulling the card before its ready. Sometimes it unmounts and disappears from the status bar on the tablet but doesn't give me the message that its safe to remove. Maybe I should wait longer. If that doesn't work ill upgrade to a class 10. I have a class 4 right now.

Wintec cards are name brand, but in the past I know I have heard about compatability issues with a few different HTC devices.
Class 6 is not always better nor always needed. It depends on the card. I have class2 sandisks that read and write faster than a kingston class6 card. Some companies over rate and some under rate. You may purchase 2 like sd card from the same company. One might be made in china and the other in taiwan. Companies may use different manufacturers which means not all cards are equal.
Also I have yet to see someone speak of it. My last phone was an HTC HD2. Very similiar specs to the Inspire. The HD2 was incapable of read/write speeds more than what a class2 card offered. So having a class6 or even a class10 made little or no difference.

My Atrix corrupted the first Wintec card as well now that I think of it. At least I think it did.
I think there's a very real possibility that im ejecting the card before its read. I may be ejecting it as soon as I see the card drop from the status bar but before it says safe to remove.

Officially no, but supposedly, microsdxc is compatible with microsdhc, so you may be able to use it.

I'm curious if anyone ever tried this. I'm an avid audiobook listener, and have a large collection. It would be a pain to swap cards, so I'd rather have a larger one if it would accept it. I know that Samsung has said this was a SDHC phone, but other "SDHC" phones have had success with the 64GB cards. Anyone have a clue on this?

That would be great, if I had unlimited data or constant access to wifi. I do not have the first, and at work, the wifi is locked with a password only the bosses get. I have a usb wifi adapter on my computer that will share my internet with my ad-hoc enabled devices, but alas, the charge does not have this capability either (unless my endless searching has missed something somewhere). So direct storage and access is my only chance (also, I have limited space on my computer, so storing and listening to them there is not feasible either.

well, you don't have to download all of the files at once - just one at a time. perhaps the night before you can sync the book you want to listen to your phone to have it ready the next day.

YES you absolutely can run the SanDisk 64GB class 10 micro SDXC card in your HD2. The phone does read the full 64GB and can access it all. You do have to reformat it first as it is in exFAT which can't be read. It needs to be formatted in FAT32. The kicker with that if you try to format in your PC, MS has deemed that FAT32 is 32 GB max and if you use the inbuilt format in any version of Windows, it will only format it in exFAT or NTFS. I also tried using a program called SDFormatter but it would not allow me to format in FAT32 either. I ended up using EaseUS Partion Master Home Edition, which is a free program. It worked a charm, and was very fast as well, Then I xxcopy'ed my SD card contents onto the new 64GB card and installed it in my phone. Both my WM 6.5.5 and my SD Android 2.2 are working perfectly, though the Android may be just a bit slower now and then. Both my 32GB and my 64GB are class 10s. I use XXcopy to keep a backup of my SD card on my computer, just in case. I update the backup every couple weeks or if I have updated anything significantly (which seems to be all the time with Android apps). I am running Core Cell Evo v4.1 and CoreDroid v.08. Here are the links to Partition Master http://www.partition-tool.com/download.htm and XXcopy http://www.xxcopy.com/xcpydnld.htm

Sorry I was in an HD2 forum trying to post this, and the XDA system told me there were similar messages I should check out first. I was in a rush and it never occurred to me it would look for messages in other forums. I assumed it searched for similar messages in the same forum. My bad, expected the XDA system to be smarter than that. Ditto for deleting a message. I'd gladly delete the SOB but after wasting 1/2 hour I didn't have trying to figure out how the hell you to delete a message, I just gave up. If any moderators see this and want to delete my messages here in this forum, PLEASE feel free.
I ordered a new Sandisk 64GB SDcard but after reading many threads on the topic here, I have a question about the format. From what I've read, in order to have the card recognized by CWM and other custom recoveries, it needs to be in Fat32 format rather than exFAT. Many people have suggested that you can use a Windows based 3rd party software to properly format the card, but I don't have a SDcard reader on my PC so I'm not sure what my options are at this point. I tried searching the forums about posts from people in a similar situation (i.e no card reader on PC) but was unable to find anything. Any suggestions or ideas on what I can do to retain the full 64gb capacity and still be compatible with CWM without having access to a SDcard reader? Thanks very much.

Will need to find a PC to format it. It comes ExFat and not only recoveries won't see it but roms/kernels may not see it either. The program is guiformat. Can Google and find it easily. The site is little confusing. Click on the picture of the app and it will give you the download.

Yea. Only difference between 32 and 64 is don't need a special program for 32. Windows can do it natively. Good luck.
I realize this question may sound ridiculous, but I figured there was no harm in asking.
Is there any chance I could stick the 64gb card in my old Droid X, connect it to my PC, and then use the program you suggested to format it to FAT32? I guess I was hoping the phone could act like a SDcard reader of sorts for my PC. Thanks again.

Won't work from phone but go to radio shack and get cheapest one of these you can find. May be able to get with 1GB card. Take pic and show them what you want. Sorry I been busy and didn't think about it. Good call Droid. $12 max.
So I purchased a SDcard reader, hooked it up to my PC, and formatted it with the guiformat program that was recommended earlier in the thread. I set the allocation size to 65536 and left the Quick Format option checked. However, after it finished, both Windows and the S3 only show it as a 32gb card (approximately 27 GB total storage space). Is there another formatting program for Windows or any other ideas you could recommend so I can get the correct storage size (64gb)? Thanks again.

I tried using a few different programs to format the card to FAT32 but every time it still showed up as a 32gb card. There's another thread detailing all the issues with exfat 64gb cards here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1698672
I encountered the same "hiccup" as you pertaining to the 32 gb issue.
I ended up using a program called EaseUS Partition Master to finally get all back to normal. I wiped my sdxc partition, it did come back with some message that something didn't complete ???, but then I formatted as fat 32, primary partition, and got the entire 64gb back and so far... ( fingers crossed ),.. all seems to be working well.
With the card formatted as exfat, as soon as I got around 8 gb of music, photos, etc.. the card simply would loose its' file structure and just start acting weird. All files would still show up if I pulled the card and put in an sdxc reader on the PC... but my Galaxy S3 never would recover them properly.
This has got to be some kind of "bug" in the phone as you'll see in the other thread this problem is quite common.
For what it's worth.. I seemed to have much better luck transferring large chunks of data with the card in the reader opposed to hooked up while in the phone. ( speeds kept dropping via the phone cable )
Good luck!
Thanks for the info. I actually tried the EaseUS Partition program you referred to, but it still remained at 32gb. I ended up returning the card to Newegg and will just get a 32gb to replace it as I'd rather not have to repeat this process. Thanks again for the useful info. I sincerely appreciate it.
Sure... I vaguely remember I had to try to format as NTFS first for some reason before I got it to properly format with entire 64gb fat 32. I spent countless hours trying to work out all the bugs with this card and exfat. Samsung states the Galaxy S3 phone is compatible with it... but there is definitely an issue with file structure once you start loading it up.
Quick update:
I ended up returning my Sandisk 64GB and replaced it with a G.Skill 32GB (Class 10) that was on sale for $22 from Newegg. Surprisingly, it came already formatted as FAT32 so I didn't have to mess around with it to get it working with CWM and custom kernels. Seems to be working great so far, and is plenty fast, so I'm pretty happy with the end result. I guess it might have been nice to have an extra ~30GB, but I mainly stream all my music/video anyways, so I'll have a tough time even filling up this new card.
Thanks again to everyone who gave me their advice and input on trying to get my first SDcard formatted correctly. Even though I wasn't ultimately successful, I sincerely appreciate everyone's time & effort.

Hey guys, would appreciate if someone could give me some help on an issue I'm having with a 32 gig SD card (SanDisk Class 10 bought at Best Buy so it's definitely legit). Anyway it worked great for a long time, however, recently I tried to use the Gremlin Remover on my phone, it crashed and burned in the middle of the process as I've heard can often happen with Gremlin Remover. I did a restart, and after that problems began to appear with my SD card. Almost all the data on it disappeared and it started to constantly mount and dismount from the phone. I thought it might have just been the failed Gremlin Remover run, so I reformatted it in Windows, put Gremlin Remover, black hole system wipe, and my ROM back on and did a complete wipe and restore of the phone, card seemed to be working okay, but then the next day it started dismounting and saying it had been unexpectedly disconnected again. Now I can't get the phone to recognize it at all so I can't connect it to Windows to get it formatted. The strange thing is that my tablet (Asus Transformer TF300) can mount the card and read the data on it. However I can't reformat from the Asus since it won't mount as USB storage in Windows. Is it probable that the card is completely fried? Or does it maybe just need a good reformat? If a reformat would fix it, how would I go about doing it? Is it possible to reformat through terminal commands? Or some other way? Anyway thanks in advance for any help.
I too have a Sandisk class 10 uSD card that just recently failed on me. It started losing files one night, then it stopped mounting. Now it just shows up as a 30-something MB drive that I can't format. I have tried many methods of restoring it to no avail.
Maybe try to format it using external sd card reader? microsd to sd?
I think there's a known issue with these cards. I bought one of these a couple wks ago from a deal posted on slickdeals.
I haven't had any problems with mine but after the purchase I started reading comments in the thread about how these cards are known for mount/dismount trouble and high failure rates. I believe in still under my return period with Amazon so I've been debating exchanging it for a different brand like Samsung. Sorry, I'm at work posting on my phone so I can't post a link.

This has already been tried, without any luck. I tried to format via Disk Utility on Mac OS, numerous drives tools under Windows, and gdisk under Ubuntu, and nothing will revive it. Zed's dead.

I too saw a number of reviews that noted the same type of failure, so I may end up giving another brand (like Samsung, as you suggested) my business. Sandisk does not seem to want to take any responsibility for my uSD card failing after only 8 months of normal use.

Same thing happened to me when I tried to format. Been meaning to thank you guys for all the comments, good to know it's not just me. Anyone have luck with RMA's?
Hello, from the "Galaxy Tab Pro 12.2, 10.1, 8.4 General" forum, there is a thread titled "128 Gb microsd card released". Has anybody used the 128GB card successfully on the PRO 12.2?

The Samsung Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 doesn't currently support the 128 Gb micro sd card. I have tried on several occasions, utilizing software and with also making system changes to no avail. Have you been able to successfully get this to work youself? Please let us know if you have any ideas.

An idea: Have you made sure you formatted FAT32 and set the card as Primary partition?

I'll test this out and see what happens. Thanks for your suggestion!

That's how I was able to get my 64GB to work in all my other devices. Primary partition is one of those things I never thought about..I always just left it as the default "Logical". Figured it out when trying to use my card with the M.O.J.O.
If it works for you, let us know..I'm ready to run to Best Buy and buy one if it does.
2 or more people have reported that it worked with their tap pro 8.4 although it says it only supports 64g

Yes. That is why I asked if anybody has tried it on the Pro 12.2
Just received mine, it worked straight out of the retail packaging. Shows 119 GB free on the Note Pro. Looking at it on a PC, it was formatted FAT32 and had a primary partition on it.
Thanks for this. I know what I'm spending my overtime monies on.

☆☆☆Yes! Mine is showing 119 Gb free on the Note Pro as well!☆☆☆
1. You must format at FAT32.
2. You must set it as the Primary Partition.

So its working right out of the box?
Sounds like it, but if not you can use MiniTool Partition Wizard.
Can someone check if you can use NTFS? Can't copy HD movies larger than 4 GB with FAT32.

I sincerely doubt it will work with anything other than FAT32...Most devices don't. There may be a workaround, but I've not tested it...nor do I really need to as I don't have any large files to worry with.

Cant you just use a compressor and get the video just under 4gb? Ive done that before with full hd movies to pretty good success.

I haven't seen or heard of an Android device that handles NTFS. There might be, but usually problems with large SD cards that can't be read get fixed when they are changed from NTFS to FAT32.
Good to hear that 128gig card will work.
However, it must be a mistake of the software included in the tablet that it recognizes the card as FAT32. First reason is that the specification of FAT32 fs itself says that it supports up to 32gigs. That btw was the reason of initial problems with running 64gig, the only drivers around were propertiary drivers owned by Microsoft, until Samsung decided to include exfat drivers in all of their products (and also made it open source, which allowed developing concurrent fuse driver that offered support for other devices/aosp based roms on samsung, without need of touching the kernel).
If it is 128gig then IT IS NOT FAT32!!! Dont think that is is some variation also, coz Sandisk is a serious company and releasing card, which is formatted in fs that haven't been seen anywhere else, sounds impossible. I think it has to be exFAT (linux fs like ext4 will not be seen in windows by default, so it's not a good choice for default fs too if thinking on earning money on average users, who dont know what even linux is.
Mistake may result from the fact that 128gig cards were not available at all when the firmware was developed, and the programmer assummed somewhere, that the border is still 64gig, so the exfat drivers from kernel works well in general and sd is supported, but the procedures displaying its info go crazy coz the size is bigger than possible, some code fail in a way that was not expected and return wrong info.
If ur rooted, type in terminal:
su -c cat /proc/mounts
and look for type of fs related to your 128gig sd. Info given back by kernel may be more reliable that the one given by an high-level app.
Also, can anyone check what does windows say about fs on the card?
I guess it will say exFAT - and this will be a proper fs which you shall format your sd to, even if the samsung settings shows otherwise.
As i am planning to buy n12.2, would be glad if anyone checks it.

Actually it was his windows desktop computer that shows the sd card as fat32. This was released for mobile devices (many of which don't support exfat). SanDisk must have realized this and formatted accordingly. You can format any size storage in fat32. Just windows (USED to) limit it to 32 storage mediums. Even windows 8 can do it with a built in tool now.

Wonder if it is the windows who limited fat32 or is it a standard specification which were violated by sandisk.
Good it works.
And i understand that there IS 4gb filesize limit?
There is a 4GB limit, yes. And yes, in order for this to work in our tablet it must be formatted as FAT32 and set as a Primary partition. If upon purchase it is NOT formatted correctly, there are pieces of software available that can format large disks appropriately. My personal favorite is MiniTool Partition Wizard because it is free.
