Samsung and any other companies always give the android kernel source, it is a must as stated in the linux kernel license.
This is not what CM needs.
Sent from my GT-I9300
i9505 uses Qualcomm so CM devs won't have a problem with it.
The i9500 on the other hand will need sources for the Exynos Octa which Samsung will probably never release. Kernel source isn't enough.
Most CM maintainers are not interested in this device and ha e no plans on working on it. So while kernel source is great. People are better off picking up develolment themselves.

Check the news of the release here : http://www.sammobile.com/2013/02/15/samsung-released-the-source-code-of-the-gt-i9100/
As the Tab Plus uses the exact same SOC as the S2 , I even saw you can boot the S2 kernel on the exymos 4 Tabs , this should be some good news for the dev's.
UPDATE:: WE HAVE THE SOURCES!!
Sony just released the complete source code for their new mtk6589 android the Sony Xperia C...Get downloading and let the development of custom roms, kernels and much much more begin..link below
http://developer.sonymobile.com/dow...es/open-source-archive-for-build-16-0-a-0-36/
Hopefully more and more manufacturers will follow suite and provide theirs too..Anyways this is a big win.
Finally, thanks to all of you who took their time to support us and help us get this.
Dear XDA members,
MediaTek is a leading manufacturer when it comes to mobile processors just like Qualcomm. They are responsible for bringing quad core CPU's like the MTK6589 among others. We have been waiting for a very long time for MediaTek to release their Kernel Sources so that we may tweak, mod and further development of the roms in our devices. The sources will allow us to port custom roms and kernels like Cyanogen ,Paranoid , AOSP, MIUI and AOKP among many others. This will be a major game changer for this processor as they prepare to launch the 8-core MTK processor.
My request to all those who see this(developer or not) is to take a second to vote, spread the word on any other forum and maybe this time they will hear us. Support our cause
It is about time this happened.
Thank you all for your time.
Be sure to vote in the Poll and feel free to leave a comment.:fingers-crossed:
i guess instead of voting here its better to sign petition over here

Its fully functional, Jelly Bean 4.2.1 build.
If they can build then why we xda dev can't build custom roms (KitKat 4.4) for A3000??

Hi,
Is there any tutorial how to build mtk kernel ?
I am struglling with it, and have errors in compilation.
Thanks,
Ranchu
The 4.3 upgrade just started rolling out for the S3 and now we also have the kernel sources : http://opensource.samsung.com/reception/receptionSub.do?method=search&searchValue=I9300
The “update12″ file is the one you’re looking for, with version XXUGMJ9.
What does this mean to the average user? Will this be integrated into something like CM or would I need to flash this separately? Sorry if this is a dumb question.

This is only for i9300 - this source has no bearing on i747 other than to confirm that it may eventually be released to i747
i9300 is the international version and has a different chipset than the i747 (or other US variants).
Latest rumor mill points to 11/13 as official release date for AT&T 4.3 btw

This forum is the for international Exynos based S3 and Note2.
d2att is a completely different device and story.
The S3 kernel source applies to I9300, I9305, N7100, N7105 and all t0lte.
Not 100% but about 98%

This forum is for qcom and exynos Samsung S3 + Note 2 actually.
And he's clearly saying that it doesn't apply to the I747.

Which kernel. The discussion was about sources.
If one takes the source and compiles it for the lte variant of the s3, it works.

If your device was already having custom kernels of older sources... Yes.

Hello everyone !
As everyone knows that we have android 6.0.1 and 7.0.x available for Jflte devices i was wondering if maybe a jflte developer could build a rom that is TouchWiz
based on CM/LOS and have android 6.0.1/7.1.x like the rom we got earlier [MIUI 8 based on CM with android 6.0.1] by @mikussj3 .....
i don't know if it's possible to build it or port it that's why i started this thread
I hope i'm in the right section of the forum..
Thanks in advance
TouchWiz can't be based on Lineage.
And porting the TouchWiz stuff to Lineage requires a lot of work. Something that developers don't really want to do or don't have time to do it.
I may be wrong, but I haven't seen a single Lineage/CM ROM that has the TouchWiz framework.
And android 6, 7 TouchWiz ROMs can't be ported to jflte devices because ROM ports I believe have to come from a phone with similar processor type and architecture.
The only S4 that runs Android 6 TouchWiz ROMs is the klte (GT-I9506), which has a Snapdragon 800 processor. So it's similar to the S5, and that made ports possible or easier.

Guys it's not impossible to port android 6.0.1 TouchWiz to GS4 i9505 its just hard to do so. There will be a lot of code changes and stuff like that.

And even then, if some developer ports MM TW, it will be very buggy, and by the time the bugs got fixed, everybody will move on to newer devices.
Think about this way: if that would be possible, a port would already be done.

The Samsung tab s6 lite is an older model with lineage and other roms available, will the S7 FE get any open source ROMs in future?

Probably not until there is a stable recovery...
And I noticed ads about Tab S8 so yeah I'm very doubtful as developers like to get on newer devices.
However I still hope one day we will see recovery and roms

Yeah, it'll be interesting to see where the state of 3rd party development goes with samsung's latest devices in the coming years

Interested to buy this tablet too since S8 series just released and so the prices decreased for 7 series but i'm on hold because there are no custom roms available atm.
Do not want use the stock samsung rom, want a vanilla aosp rom and install packages i like to make it as light and fast and possible.
Hope lineageOS devs will consider to port LOS on this device too like they did with S6 series.
