Hey again, I'm posting here again because my mother is having more confusing issues with her (Stock Unrooted) S3, and I'm not having the same issues (Rooted S3). She has the Pearl Blue and I have the White, but I don't think that means anything... The issues she is having are:
- Some "echoing" in the call. Whenever someone calls her, they hear echoing whenever she talks. I've witnessed it too, and it happens whether it is just headset, speakerphone, or bluetooth. Ironically it is somewhat less with the bluetooth speaker. I was wondering what could have caused that.
-Issues sending MMS- My mother's friend really enjoys sending group MMS messages to my mother and a mutual friend. My mom though is having issues sending the MMS while she is connected to WiFi, and she has had to disconnect WiFi to send it out (she didn't realize it until this morning)...
-Issues with Car Bluetooth System- When my mom uses her car's bluetooth system, it has some very weird sounds. Everything is garbled and nothing can be understood. I did a search and someone described his as "Something from a B-Rate Alien Movie". I was wondering if anyone's had a fix, or should we go in to Best Buy and see if there should be a replacement option?
It's worth mentioning I have never had any of these issues, but I didn't keep my phone stock long enough to fully test it out... I'm just wondering if anyone's had similar complications, and if they fixed it, or had to replace.
Echo and by I can't help with, but I do believe there may have been an outage or something with sending mms. I had issues last night and so did a few others. I dont know if it has been resolved or not.

I've also had issues with MMS, and bluetooth connections seem to be the wonkiest things in existence, so it may not be a persisting problem, a reboot (if you haven't already done that) may fix it.

What version of android is running on the phone.
Go to "System Settings > About Phone"
And let us know the build number, kernel version and any other pertinent information.
I started having problems with my stock rom so I decided to just start trying out AOSP roms.

She would have to have mobile data on as well to send when WIFI is on. Was mobile data on or off? MMS won't send through WIFI alone.

Samsung had a history of varying audio issues with their devices, starting with at least the Charge. i thought most kinks have gradually been worked out and i had not heard of many with the S3. did the echo happen while talking to one person in particular or did it happen with different callers?
have you or your mom succesfully connected to another bluetooth device other than the car? did you have the same issue?
and wolfgrrl is correct. you need to have a mobile data signal in order to send or receive mms on vzw.

I can send MMS just fine, but I cannot receive them from other networks. Upsetting.
im having these issues to but mine has not been rooted. I can receive pictures all day long fine, i just cant send them with any reliability. Restarting when it says "sending" doesnt work to force it send for me. I was in a 3g town yesterday and didnt have much problem sending pics, back in home town today on EDGE and having issues yet again.
Anyone got any thoughts?
I have had the same issue. I was even unable to send a picture through gmail as an attachment yesterday while in a 3g area. today i can send one through my corporate e-mail but still no mms. I have rooted and removed the att junk with ti backup. I dont think i removed anything that would effect mms though. I have also tried a factory reset. It deleted all my apps and settings but i did not have to reroot. It also did not return any of the att programs. Any help with this issue would be great.
had the same issue...could not send PIcs at ALL. took it back, got a replacement and it sent one fine.... then i tried again and didnt work. WTF?
I am an att manager and I have a captivate and have sold tons of others. I spoke with galaxy s support last week and they are going to call me back Monday to let me know if they have a fix yet. Good to hear we have an insider on board
I seem to be on the same boat, however:
Can't send pictures to my dad (AT&T, iphone)
Or my mom (ACS; local Alaska carrier)
But send em' just fine to my girlfriend(AT&T via LongLines Cellular towers)
Boy does that make sense
I had the same issue with sending MMS but was able to figure out a work around. It appears it is something related to the message size. If I crop an image, and the message size stays under 80kb, it will send with no issues. Not sure what the magic number is where it stops sending but will post once I figure it out.
Non-rooted Captivate, had a similar problem receiving MMS for the first week (purchased July 18th). Specifically, I could not receive MMS from Verizon customers unless they were using a Blackberry. Verizon customers using LG and Samsung phones, I got nothing. Verizon customers using a Blackberry, MMS would come through to me fine. SMS worked fine to and from all carriers and I could send MMS to friends on all carriers (and they would receive them properly, regardless of their device).
Tested with 3 different Verizon customers in 2 parts of the U.S. (cross-country), with Samsung Intensity and LG Envy phones on their end ... none of them could send me MMS. My screen would wake up as if something were coming in ... but nothing would ever come through. Very frustrating. Went to an AT&T store, duplicated the tests on their demo unit with the store manager's SIM installed.
The Fix (for my issue, YMMV):
AT&T's billing system was correctly showing my device as a Samsung Captivate, but their network provisioning system was showing the device field as blank (which apparently defaults the behavior to "non-smartphone," for what it's worth). The tech submitted a ticket to correct that, as apparently everything had to be in order before the network folks would take a look at the problem. Turned out that simply correcting that field fixed my MMS issue (since it registered my phone in the "smartphone" category). Note that I was told that correcting that field usually takes them 5-7 days, since it's not considered critical, but she pushed it through more quickly.
Customer Support
I have to include this bit here, because the customer support I received was amazing and far beyond what I expected. I understand that I may have had better luck than most. Got to a higher level tech with no fuss, and she immediately took ownership and had excellent communication, emailing me and following up with multiple phone calls to keep me in the loop with what she was doing. I've been thinking about switching carriers, but AT&T finally releasing the Captivate (even with the GPS issue, etc.), coupled with this tech's absolutely superb customer-focused support, will keep me here for awhile longer (and I'm definitely going to send her a glowing email saying just that, which I hope she forwards to her supervisor).
All my MMS works but 1 just showed up as a play symbol. It was a wide picture.
I know this is probably something that can't be fixed without working with T-Mobile, but they can't seem to figure out what the problem is and I'm getting desperate
Whenever someone sends me a text I get duplicates of it over and over until I turn on WiFi calling, which seems to work fine. I have had this problem with two different G2x (I sent the first one back thinking it was a hardware issue). This also does not happen on my Nexus One (I moved the SIM card back over and the issue disappears).
I am thinking it has to be something to do with the communication between the G2x and my T-Mobile cell network. Any information anyone has about this that could help me help T-Mobile find the issue would be great.
Thanks.
You don't have another messaging app installed, do you?
First thing I did when I got the replacement was sync Google contacts and tell someone to text me and it started happening. I factory reset the original one I had 3 times and the problem persisted.
Are you running juicedefender? I get duplicates of some messages because juicedefender shuts off mobile data, so the network doesn't receive the notification that the MMS was received. It will try and resend every 5 minutes for a specified number of times until the message is received.
Nope, had no apps installed. Plus I get the duplicates sometimes less than 1 minute apart.
Thanks for the responses so far. This problem is really starting to get irritating.
I was getting a lot of duplicates. Seems to have spied for now. No clue what was doing it
Its really irritating because I love the phone, but I can't use it if I am constantly getting spammed by duplicate text messages.
yea i got 55 texts from 12 am to 11 a m from the same person 2 different texts and it kept going for a couple hours after too idk why i just got a new one today though but it's got a bad bleed so im just returning it and going to wait a week or two hope they solve it by then already sent lg a pic so
If your problems anything like mine a replacement won't fix the problem, unless I somehow got stupendously unlucky.
Anyone figure this out. I have the same problem. It is not every text message and not every person. It is pretty random. The same person can send me 4 texts 2 are normal, one repeated twice and one 24 times over a period of time, usually a couple hours.
Check any of the apps/widgets that have anything to do with calls/texts, even just showing a number of unread texts. If there are any that have the permission "Your Messages: Send SMS-received broadcast" uninstall it and see if the problem persists. I think I may have had an app called Organizer Widget that was blocking my phone from sending that broadcast.
I had your problem.
I was running on stock G2X, and I was receiving text after text after text.
I spent time on the phone with the T-Mo reps, and he concluded that:
"it's a server problem. You see, our messaging database isn't reading that your phone got the text, and thus it re-sends it in hopes that it receives it."
Basically, he is saying that the messaging server is tripping. But, this is not exactly true, because if it was the messaging server, then it would be universal. It is simply a G2X stock-rom problem.
I think it actually might have something to do with the baseband, but I am not sure if CyanogenMod updates it or fixes it when flashing.
I have a fix.
After I flashed myself some CyanogenMod, the problem was instantly fixed.
So, I think its a problem with the stock rom. Definitely. The CM rom works perfectly, no repeating messages. Also, the current nightlies are mighty stable.
I have this issue as well. It doesn't happen often but when it does it sends 10 or more duplicates.
I have handcrafted sms and launcher products which displays the number of texts on the dock. Running rooted stock.
It hasn't happened in a while, so I doubt it is related to the Apps.

I've had this issue on ALLLL my android phones I've owned . Even non Android phones and my unlocked iPhone. I have tried different similar cards as well.
I have noticed it happens the most when I receive messages from a Verizon user; followed by AT&T users. I never (not that I've noticed) had duplicates from Sprint or other T-Mobile users. Only Verizon and AT&T.
My point being I think it's a T-Mobile issue. Or a communication issue between providers.

I'm actually having this problem running CM7 Nightly 63, it's irritating as hell.
Dont know, but I'd like to know the problem too. I have chompsms installed but it shows duplicate in the stock messaging app too.
I really don't think it has anything to do with the phone...
Like I said earlier, all my phones have done it. Even my crappy clamshell Samsung back in the day. Or my unlocked iPhone.

I have the issue as well...although it seems to be only with certain contacts, however across every carrier. Averages 3-4 duplicates. Never had this problem before with any phone. SIM card went straight from my N1 to my G2X. Kind of an old SIM. Maybe I'll try a re-provision on a new SIM to see if that makes any difference.
Thank you @shaneledford, uninstalling organizer widget solved my problem... everything's back to normal

I've also had this problem with previous phones, though it tends to happen much more often when one of them is an Android phone. Only started happening with my phone before this one, though, but that was a Nokia non Android, so it's a fairly recent thing but not Android specific.

Hey all,
Been told that my phone has started sending duplicate SMS messages out without my knowledge, one person even received 6 of the same message even though the phone said it sent successfully the first time, my itemised bill backs this up so it seems to be genuinely sending things again and again.
I suspect it may be a signal issue and something isn't coming back to the phone to confirm it's been sent so it keeps retrying maybe without me knowing?
I am running the Modaco IR3 ROM and the latest radio (which I suspect may be the culprit), oh and using Go SMS Pro.
Has anyone else had something similar?
Thanks
Russ
ditto, but it only happens on occasion. I've also had a "message failed to send" on a few messages, even when they go through. I don't know if it's a phone or a network issue.
Well we're dealing with 2 different networks so that's not a common factor at least
Right. I guess I should have said I thought it was network-related. Are you connected to Wifi when it happens?
Yes, well at least when it was noticed over the weekend as they were messages I had sent while at home so connected via Wifi, hard to prove if it does/doesn't happen when wifi is off due to the randomness of the issue
I wonder if it's pushing it out over the cell tower and wifi at the same time? I was on Wifi as well...
I'll leave it off tonight and see if anyone gets any.
Are you using a custom ROM?
First things first: I'm new to Android & this phone (came over from iPhone about 2 weeks ago). So I apologize in advance if this is some old issue that's been talked over endlessly - I'm new to this Android stuff.
That said, I'm having tons of issues with my text messaging. First, I downloaded and tried the "SMS Messaging (AOSP)" app and it was giving me problems of not getting messages from people. This was android & ios users alike. So then I switched to Google's "Messenger" app and it seemed to work a lot better - I was getting picture messages, iMessages, everything in order and speedy. I have yet to do my texting thru Hangouts because I'd prefer not to, but if it'll solve my problem I guess I will.
Right now it's at the point where everything is out of whack, and sometimes just not sending/receiving at all. I think WiFi has something to do with it because if I'm sitting at home connected to the WiFi, it's almost non-functional, but if I switch the WiFi off, it seems to work a little bit better. Also, at this point it seems like texting from Android to Android is fine, but sending/receiving from someone on an iPhone is huge problems.
Is there a setting I need to change? A different app? Is this just something I have to live with til Android M? Help!
Thanks!

No. I got it certified pre-owned thru TMobile about 2 weeks ago. It works perfectly in every other way and when I unboxed it and unwrapped the cling wrap it looked like a brand new phone.
I really think it has something to do with WiFi because when I'm out all day and only connected thru LTE, I send and receive messages completely normally from iOS and Android devices. Never heard a complaint or "hey are you getting my messages" when I'm on LTE.
WTF.

Texts and MMS use your data plan, not WiFi.. How is your signal where you are having issues? Hangouts will send MMS via WiFi if going to someone else on hangouts.

Signal is just fine when these texts are giving me issues. I'm usually within 10 feet of the router and full signal. If I walk or drive a block away, I'll get texts immediately that I know were sent earlier. Same goes if I turn off WiFi on my phone.
This makes absolutely no sense.
I got my Pixel 3 unlocked from Google a couple of days ago. I really love the phone, but oddly, every time that I call my wife and I'm on speaker, it always takes 8-10 seconds for her to be able to hear me. This happens with no one else, as I've called multiple people on speaker. Google offered to RMA the device, but I'm not convinced that it's a hardware issue. If it's a software issue that will likely be fixed in the future, I will just keep this one. I'm not entirely sure what to make of it, but I don't really want to go through the RMA process just for it to continue happening. Has anyone else had similar experiences? From what I can see on Reddit and elsewhere, it appears to be a rather commonplace issue. I just can't justify waiting for another device to solve a wide spread problem. If it was a fluke issue, then a factory replacement wouldn't make me nervous. I think that I am just going to return the device for a full refund and wait for something else to come out. Sucks though, because I otherwise loved this phone.
I have noticed this as well. I try to talk over the speaker and the person on the other end can't hear me for a little bit. I might try to RMA the phone. How'd you go about talked to Google Support about the issue? A phone call, chat or email?

I was using the chat service, it worked fine. I haven't RMA'd the device. I went and got a new SIM card from AT&T and it seems better. I did tons of test calls to other people on different carriers and it only ever happened with my wife, who is in Verizon. For that reason, I don't think there is a hardware issue with my device, but I don't know what it might be.

I figured it out while I was messing with it yesterday. Turn off HD voice. "enhanced LTE" in the network settings menu and that fixes it. I am on AT&T and had great connectivity with same carrier subscribers, Sprint, and others. I tried calling multiple friends with Verizon and had the issue every time. So I just turned it off.
Update: it looks like December update fix my issue. Will update again if something happen

This speakerphone issue is happening to me using TMobile and also using Whatsapp calls.
I noticed this issue because the phone is also not connecting to my Honda Civic 2016 Bluetooth and tried using the speakers.
I'll wait for December 2018 update and make lot of test before I contact Google.
I'm using the regular Pixel 3 white.
I have the same issue,,,when I first get a call and answer it with speakerphone no one can hear me for a few seconds then if I toggle speaker off then back on it works okay??

Doesn't this remove the ability to use group chats?
I got my wife the Pixel 3 at launch and we're on the 3rd phone because of this issue and it's still happening. It only happens on speakerphone (not regular) and her speakers seem to be fine which makes me think it's software and not hardware.

I am wondering if anyone has tried turning off the wifi calling option? I havent tried that yet as it is the only thing I havent tried to see if my phone doesnt have problems when first answering a call with the phones speakerphone and people on the other end not being able to hear me for the first few seconds? I saw in a Google thread that there may be a problem with the handoff of wifi to actual LTE calling and it makes it difficult for the phones speaker to know where to apply the sound to? I dont have a sim in my phone currently so I am wondering anyone else tried this to see?

My wife has this issue with her new Pixel 3 - oddly not when calling me (I have an S8) but when calling 3 other confirmed people (who [co-incidentally] all have iphones?). Even talking to them over handset first which is obviously fine, when she switches to speaker mid-call they can't hear her.
We tried this but she still has the issue.
