I have 2 of TF101 plus a dock. Thinking about getting TF700 . Those who took the route - what are your impressions ?
I use the table 90% of the time as ebook reader - pdf and epub, using Mantano reader most of the time. Higher rez should make for a better ebook experience I hope, although I can not claim that I find TF101's screen lacking in clarity/sharpness department.
So far I dont feel that dropping $700 will fetch me much outside of small incremental gains over TF101

Biggest advantage is screen. Most apps don't push the 101 cpu anyway. But the screen is amazing and i loved tf101 screen too. For books it's probably iffy. I read a lot of comics and all I can say is wow. It's also a little thinner and lighter but i dont find it much easier to hold for reading. So if you're a gamer or you read comics or magazines its totally worth it.
if you read books a lot then i think you should get a 7 inch tablet like the nexus 7, it's light, easy to hold and you can hold it by 1 hand without getting tired. more importantly the nexus 7 has a very good screen display (1280x800)
For me I went from a TF101 to a TF201 and then to my current TF700T. From the TF101 you will notice a faster unit, better screen, thinner profile unit (both for the tablet as well as the dock keyboard), better battery length (at least for me). On the negative you will have one less USB port to use. I ended up getting a small USB hub to use and all of the things I used the USB ports on the TF101 would connect into the USB hub and work just fine, in fact all at the same time! Do not get the TF201 as an interim step simply because the GPS and in some instances the WiFi radios do not work or work in a restricted way. The TF700T that I have all of its radios work just fine.
I'm getting worse battery life but I'm experimenting with uninstalling and disabling apps and any background stuff (updates/sync/etc), I'm hopeful it will improve.
ergonomics, fit and finish, display resolution and readability, brightness, wifi range, storage (got 64GB with a 64GB card on the way), and the placement of controls and i/o connectors - hell yes, it's a primo upgrade from the Tf101.
Color balance on the screen is not good, too yellow, and battery life like I said is terrible compared to the TF101. I also don't like how the dock charges the battery, much prefer the TF101's method of keeping the tab at 100%.
Coming from a TF101 was a big jump for me. I decided to wait for the nicer screen. The screen and much more powerful CPU make watching movies a lot better.
I'm having to get use to the button and input placements, especially the power button. Coming from a TF101 dock to a TF201 dock, I was sad to lose a USB port. I still have my TF101, though I am trying to get rid of it, but once more apps are updated, and rooting/recovery becomes easy/one-click I will not use it again.
I'm coming straight from a rooted tf101 which I sold tablet/dock to a buddy of mine for $250. I mainly used my tablet for browsing the internet and watching movies. As you already know, the screen is much nicer and the engine in this thing is blazing. I get random lags here and there even after the newest update, but it can only get better especially after rooting and custom roms become more widely available. My tf101 couldn't even play 720p mkvs, but the tf700t handled the highest quality 1080p mkvs that I have without a hiccup. Colors are very vibrant imo. As far as internet browsing, some content takes slightly longer to render because of the hd screen I presume, but I know it will get better. It's lighter and more sleek than my bulky brown tf101. I also noticed I don't get as much battery drain while sleeping than I did with my tf101. As others have stated, I would rather my dock drain first leaving my tablet at 100% instead of both draining simultaneously.
The tf101 advantages were the 2 speakers and the two usb ports. I bought a small cheap rechargable speaker from walmart for $8 which was surprisingly useful called bomb speaker. I will also get a usb hub from amazon so those disadvantages are no deal breaker to me.
Just curious - what the hell are you guys connecting to your TF700 where one USB port isn't enough for normal use? I don't think I've even used both USB ports at the same time on my TF101, so 1 USB port didn't seem like a problem. I'm just curious what types of devices you guys connect where you need more than one USB port normally...
Thanks!

Not a big deal but I have a low profile usb thumb drive in my dock at all times, and would then want to attach a mouse. Now I have to pull it to use mouse

The screen alone is worth the money.
I was never able to read a lot on my TF101G I still used my ebook reader because it looked so pixaleted on the TF101G.
However with the TF700 that problem is gone and I just like it very much.

Ahh, I've been using a bluetooth mouse, which leaves the USB port free... Wasn't thinking about a mouse that required a USB port - then I could see two USB ports being useful....

I upgraded from the TF1010. The factors for me were the screen, the faster speed and the lighter weight. The TF101 was just starting to feel a little heavy for me, especially once I had it in a case. My TF101 was also starting to feel a little sluggish, so I decided to go for it. Couldn't be happier, the TF700 is really smooth and I haven't had any problems, with the exception of the battery life, I am one of those people that feel the Wifi is draining the battery pretty quickly.

If you read a lot of Comics or magazines or illustrated books, I would give the exact opposite advice. I have a 7" and 10.1" device and comics/magazines are unbearable on the 7 incher after having used a 10 incher. Provided you're strong enough to hold up the 10 incher. LOL.
That said, if 90% of your application is eBooks and you have already outlaid for the TF101 dock, I personally would not even consider upgrading until the next device given the cost for what would only be a very small incremental improvement for your application.
ASUS still needs to get their firmware act together for the T3 devices and QA is still something I'd be wondering about.
I upgraded from the prime after selling it (originally was going to get the Acer a700, glad I passed on that debacle). It was definitely worth it although I do miss AOKP and Jermaine's other work.

I also primarily use mine as an ebook reader (using the Aldiko app), and also use a few different news ready apps (Currents, Appy Geek and Pulse primarily).
I don't see much of a difference in how crisp the text is in any of these apps, however on the TF101 the white background had very faint artifacts (you might see them as little dots, or a pattern of some sort) which the TF700 doesn't. The white background on the TF700 is just solid white to my eyes. That makes reading for a long time much easier on my eyes.
I never really noticed that 'artifacts' (Warehouse 13 anyone? ) on the TF101 until I tried (and returned) an iPad 3. The screen on the iPad is gorgeous, as one would expect, but IOS is not for me. If there is a difference between the iPad and the TF700 screens, it's not something that *I* can see. I know the iPad has a somewhat higher resolution, but it's not enough for me to tell the difference - and that's all that matters.
So, in short, go for it - you'll love it.
I actually wasn't planning on upgrading, but the charging port on my TF101 broke about a week ago and the RMA process was going to take a few weeks so I figured why not? Honestly if my TF101 hadn't broken I would have been fine with it for another few months at least, if not another year.
As mentioned above, battery life isn't as good. Screen is excellent. I do notice considerably less lag when typing, especially in a browser. Loading pages is a bit snappier. It's a nice upgrade, but not worth $500 IMO, unless you have to like I did.

Was Just wondering if the TF101 is worth getting after seeing a 16GB w/ Keyboard for only £297, and not refurb. NEW. Was just wondering if its worth paying a bit more for the newer versions, TF201/TF300/TF700? Also was wondering if it comes with Flash Player?
It is not. It is slow and old. That generation of tablets wasn't able to provide good web browsing experience in my opinion. Also TF101 wasn't state of the art - very poor speakers (although on headphones the sound is great), slow NAND (like all Asus tablet) resulting in IO problems (lags) and typical Tegra2 problems (decoding movies). Well, for games it is quite good still, I like it for that, but I just got Note 10.1 and its like night and day, I never thought a tablet may be that fast (browsing in Chrome is like on my i7 tablet - no keyboard lags, not stuttering when scrolling, excelent).
Get TF300 if you need the keyboard, avoid TF201 (it has many problems). Note 10.1 is too pricy, right? Consider Nexus 7 if you don't need such big screen.

How good a price is dependent on your locale. For me it's too much and would opt for a TF300 or TF700 depending on how much more you would have to pay. If you want a dock then you need to stick with a TF. You can try the Nexus 7 which has the latest and greatest in a smaller form factor and the price is substantially less at the moment. But then you have to give up some screen real estate. Which might not be an issue if you've never had a bigger device. After all, ignorance is bliss.
I have to agree with Magnesus. My time with TF101 has been, so-so. Thankfully I'll be leaving this gen behind and moving up to an Infinity or a Galaxy Note 10.1 (Still debating on that).
Hi All
My name is EraVulgaris and I am a NOOB to the nth degree.
I bought an Infinity about 10 days ago from BB and have been playing around with it and lurking on various boards trying to learn. Have gotten 2 OTA updates with it (build 10.4.4.23), downloaded Flash (11.1.115.27) from adobe site.
I have disabled some bloatware and still find it somewhat jerky and slow at times while remaining stock.I plan on using it for browsing, watching movies/TV, drawing and some games.
Browsers- FF Beta and Dolphin with jetpack.
So my question is before I step up and root- is this tablet a good "starter tablet"? It seems like it takes a lot of tweaking even after it has been rooted.- But what do I know lol.
I plan to stick with Android and I plan to root (I want to control some of the permissions if nothing else!) not unlock.
What tablet would you suggest to a friend who is just getting into this for the first time?
Thanks!

tf700 has some design issue, so if you want it to perform, you have to unlock and flash cleanrom, rooting is NOT enough to make it run well. Once it's running cleanrom/clemsyn kernel, it flies like a jet and very snappy. If you want to stay with 10" screen, the Samsung tab 2 is a good one.

So rooting alone isn't enough? I didn't realize. I'll have to take a look around these boards. and see what problems remain after root.
I looked at the Samsung Note, but the Infinity screen won me over. The Infinity sound is crappy. Improved a little when I downloaded Volume+.
Is the Tab better than the Note? I am looking at the Nexus 10.

Nexus10 is a very good device, it won over the Samsung tab on everything, the only draw back for the Nexus is none removable sdcard. Beside this, Nexus10 is a clear winner for 10" tablet. Back to the infinity, it's probably is best fully loaded features tablet on the market, like keyboard dock with build-in battery, dual external sdcard, super high res screen, quad core cpu. The only draw back is it runs like ****, but if you unlocked and flash cleanrom/clemsyn kernel, it's the best overall device.
buhohitr says some good words!
I kind of think the TF700T for most may be somewhat frustrating.
A great tablet, yet it really is best for those that can wait for true FHD apps, or the persistent custom ROM types.
Not trying to sway any one away from the Infinity just be prepared to become a tweak monster with the Infinity.
One might say it was a bit ahead of it's time...

Yes, everyone has been really helpful with the feedback (I used the button and didn't say it!) .
I'm afraid I really would become a tweak monster what with my learning curve and my drill down personality once I commit.
Haven't even seen an N10. I guess I will factory reset the Infinity and head over to BB. Then call around to Staples and Walmart.
*Sigh* the Infinity sure is purty though!

Same here.
I am unrooted and unlocked running .23 and I see only a few issues.
The one thing I found increased speed is getting rid of the bloatware.
My Thinkpad laptop went dead after 10 years and I decided to go the tablet route.
After using this thing for a few months I am glad I bought the Infinity.
If you're not concerned about having extra storage or the extra feature of the asus keyboard you're better off with the nexus 10. For one you don't need to tweak it and its fastest and smoothest tablet I've come across in stock form and you don't have to worry about breaking warranty. And its more future proof right now and to me has better game support than the tf700.

Agreed. I find it much easier and smoother for a noob.
The Nexus 10 Smoother, maybe. More useful? Ah, not particularly. The lack of a MicroSD slot makes it rather pointless if you want to do more than browse a bit. I'll take a slightly slower tab over a fast one if it means I can use my (two!) 32GB MicroSD cards. I have a lot of music and films (ranging from 400mb to 18gb), as well as navigational maps for 6 countries a 500-2gb a piece. And my portfolio showcase, and my designing and documenting.
And no, a usb drive is not a proper alternative solution. That's an addition on the TF700. On the N10, it's the only option, and i'm not having a 1TB external harddrive dangling in the air or balancing on my knee whilst using it. Now I can put it on the keyboard.
None of my films and music are on my tab itself, yet it is still nearly full. I USE my tab, not merely have it as a fancy sidegadget.
And of course the rather inconvenient fact that the Nexus 10 isn't for sale in the Netherlands. Nor in Belgium. Which pretty much doesn't make it an option for me anyway.

Lol, my sentiments exactly.
I now have dual 64 GB UHS-1 micro SDCards installed - one in the micro slot and one using the micro --> SD adapter in the SD Slot on the dock.

Need help deciding what tablet to get I currently have an iPad 4 retina 64gb, and I like it but have come to the conclusion that I only like it because the apps are optimized for the tablet screen, have the note 2 and love it and want the same experience on a tablet instead of waiting around for a jailbreak to get somethings that I can do on an android tablet. I like to play video games and the moga or plug in an Xbox 360 controller is a plus for me widgets and all that fun stuff I like. The choice of tablets that I'm considering is the Asus transformer infinity with keyboard dock or the nexus 10 leaning more to the infinity because with the keyboard dock it can replace my laptop with splash top connecting to my Mac mini it is a laptop at all times. Things that concern me is screen resolution, and tablet optimized apps any help is much appreciated.

Except for the fact that the Nexus 10 has a) availability issues and, more importantly, b) quality control issues that seem even worse than with the 700. You furthermore do not get the added battery life because of the powered dock, and less storage options. Why do you put forward the N10?
More on-topic, though: it really depends on preference, as Thats OK already said. I really do like the battery-powered dock and the extra oomph that gives -- I have a relatively long commute and irregular shifts, so it pleases me a lot not having to recharge every 12 hours, or whenever a wall socket is available somewhere. The screen resolution is fine -- I happily read technical (medical) books and articles, for which the radiographs, charts and stuff all come out really nicely, and even the private reading is a pleasure (text is crisp, contrast is good). The movies and documentaries or TED talks I regularly watch are great, too.
Nah. I'd pick the TF700 if it came out now if I had no other options. However... and we also discussed this last week -- you really should use the serch function, you know -- someone I forgot the name of mentioned that soon a bunch of new models of several brands will be announced soon, and it might be prudent to wait it out a bit. You might shoot yourself in the foot when buying into an aging system, no matter how well it performs. Then again, in tech, there's always something better just around the corner, and if you wait, you can wait forever.
Good luck deciding!
You should wait and see the new Samsung tablet line-up (new models should be announced soon) before buying anything, well at least this is what i would do.
Search with Google for Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 (this link is in italian, but you will get it - > http://www.everyeye.it/tech/notizia/ecco-la-line-up-dei-tablet-samsung-per-il-2013_148080) .
MWC is coming tomorrow and I am sure the right thing to do now is WAIT!!! Many new awesome products may be introduced during MWC, which may include tablets. I was hoping for a new Transformer tablet, but it seems that ASUS will introduce a new Padfone, which technically can still be considered a tablet.
While you may end up with a better tablet if you wait, that same logic would mean that you would never buy a tablet since there are *always* newer and better devices around the corner. Even if the "perfect" tablet gets announced tomorrow, you then need to wait another few months before actually getting your hands on it (if you are lucky) - and even then, how knows what will happen (could end up being a dud). You just can't tell the future!
My advice - go to Best Buy today, mess with a few different models for an hour or so and buy one NOW! We are not talking about purchasing a new house here - it's a tablet that costs ~$500 that will be worn-out and/or outdated in a year or two anyway. Satisfy the urge and go get what seems best - you won't regret it - any modern tablet is an extremely fun device to use!
It's easy for us to tell you to wait - we already have a tablet that we are thoroughly enjoying!
Just my opinion....

IMO 32 gb for the internal memory is plenty to hold your apps and some media. I put all the space-intensive stuff, music, pics, videos on external SD/micro cards anyway.
The dock, providing a good keyboard, extra battery, USB and extra SD card slot is one of the main selling points for this tablet.
If you want a dock, the TF700 is your best choice - no doubt about it.
If you don't need/want the dock you have quite a few other choices for a great tablet out there.

I thought about waiting myself. However, I wanted Tegra platform, and it looks like the earliest a Tegra 4 TF would release is in July. Side by side, I don't see a difference in the quality of the screen between an ipad 4 and a TF700. OTOH, the TF700 screen gets very very bright for outdoor usage.
As to storage, I've got a 32GB TF700, a 32GB microsd card installed, and the keyboard dock with a 16GB SD card in it; that's roughly 80GB of raw storage here and I can easily expand it. With the dock, battery life is phenominal. The tiny keyboard is taking some getting used to, but it's very handy. In fact, I haven't even turned my old dell laptop on since I got this. Just haven't needed it. I use a PS3 dualshock controller and a micro-hdmi cable for emulator gaming on the big screen. It's pretty cool. Haven't played any of these SNES games since I was a teenager.
The touchwiz launcher on your note 2 isn't available on a transformer. Asus has it's own launcher, but it's very nice. I suggest you try one out in Best Buy. They have a sale this week, the TF700 is $429, and the KB dock $99. That's like $120 off full price. Though, I think they change their sales on wed, so I'd decide quickly.
I don't regret buying the TF700 one bit. It's a good tablet/laptop replacement, and less than half the price of Asus's own ultrabook with a touchscreen. The only thing I'm really sacrificing is a full windows platform. In all the time I've had my old laptop though, I never really did anything on it that I couldn't do on this tablet, and this tablet does it for over 8 hours longer, lol.

Seriously, fck samsung and there crappy-soft-plastic build quality. Anyone who would consider a samsung product does not know anything about build quality. The ridiculously high resolution? Not worth it. Why push a higher pixel count than the retina display if you cant see pixels beyond retina display. All of the android tablets anounced for this yr do not improve on the infinity except for vizios tablet that uses a tegra 4, and who knows when that will actualy be released. The tegra 4 is expected to ship on devices late this year. Of tablets on the market a non-stock infinity handles them all with no issue. I can confirm this bc i work at a tech store and have tested them all against my infinity. No android tablet can replace a laptop like an infinity. Since buying mine 8 mos ago I havent once used my old laptop.

Just want to make a slight correction, minus the keyboard dock, the Sony Xperia Tablet Z has much better hardware specs than the tf700 (Snapdragon S4 Pro, 2 GB RAM, even 4G LTE). Since it is going to be released in May in the US, it will be a mistake not to consider it.
Dang must be a local best buy sale, mines still at $499. Though about the xperia but really like the idea if the dock. With the Ubuntu coming out it could make the tf700 VERY interesting.
If I get it I will be getting a dock. Was just wondering if it's better to get the 64 or just have a microSD and SD in the dock and call it good.

The problem is that you can't get a keyboard dock with the Sony, which is one of the TF700's main selling points!
I cannot understand why other manufacturers aren't offering an optional keyboard dock - I simply wont even consider a tablet without a keyboard dock -ever. It just makes the device that much more useful...

Absolutely not - a bluetooth keyboard is not even close to a true keyboard dock. A true keyboard dock is integrated with the device - it becomes part of the device. It includes an a battery to charge the device, a USB port, a SD memory card slot, customized buttons on the keyboard, a trackpad with two mouse buttons and even doubles as a stand for the tablet (which even charges the tablet!).
On the other hand, a bluetooth keyboard is just another separate accessory that you have to lug around, actually requires batteries instead of providing a battery, has no expansion slots and is, in general, a pain in the a$$ to work with (I know, I've tried).
So, as you can see - while they do make bluetooth keyboards that would work, they do not provide anywhere near the level of integration or functionality of a true keyboard dock. It's not even close.

Not really...
I've tried a couple I have the RockSoul BT keyboard it's a hassle and disconnects periodically.
For me a keyboard isn't a necessity.
Now a blue tooth mouse... :good:

I load all my large files like media and videos on SD/micro cards, basically use the internal for apps and such only. 32gb is plenty for me in that regard...
64gb micro in the tablet, 64gb SD in the dock + optional USB stick.... I don't think I'll ever run out of storage on this baby!

Guys I'm in a bit of a dilemma. I wanted to buy a 10" used tablet for sometime now and I'm confused again now. I was extremely close to getting a Transformer TF101 as it was affordable and fit my needs but I'm a little worried about getting a tablet with an older screen res. Now, I don't care for performance and software upgrades that much but I feel a screen resolution upgrade is sufficient for me to situp and take notice.
I've heard a lot about the newer phones having pointlessly high PPI numbers. But can anyone tell me if the extra PPI on the newer large 10" tablets - TF700T, A700, etc make a massive difference and justify its price? I'm basically looking for input from people who have used a 10" 1280x800 tablet and then upgraded to a 10" 1920x1200 tablet
Eg.
Iconia A500/A510>A700
TF101/TF201>TF700T
Nexus 7>Nexus 10
My main tablet usage will be movies, reading ebooks and occasional web browsing. I suppose it should also be mentioned that I can barely afford the A700 let alone the TF700, but if the difference is large enough then I will consider spending more and getting a FHD tablet.
During Christmas my grandmother got a tf300 and I got a tf700. I can tell you the screen on the tf700 seems much clearer then the screen on the tf300. As for the Nexus 7, It is full res like the Nexus 10 so you wont notice any difference there other than the big screen. I havent used any other tablets though.

My mum owns a Galaxy Tab 2 (1280x800), and I own a TF700 (1920x1200).
The difference in clarity, crispness, contrast and sharpness is staggering. The G2 display looks horrendously blurry and vague next to the TF700 one.
I very much prefer the HD res over the lower one.

Agreed. Even with the lag issues, that screen easily makes it worth it. I havent used my grandma's tf700 much but you can tell the difference easily.

UPDATE FOR TF700 USERS!!! AND THE 4.2.1 UPDATE http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2204100
Father-in-law has a Galaxy Tab with 1280something longest edge, and the TF700 screen's sharpness is so much higher that I've probaby been spoiled for life. I do a lot of (technical) e-book reading as well, and graphs and (photographic) illustrations are so much clearer on the 700 compared to the rest... I'll never go back voluntarily.
Nothing beats having someone peek over to see what you're reading and then opening up some forensic pathology e-book, prefereably somewhere in the midst of brain removal during autopsy. Sternum removal does the trick brilliantly, as well. I actually bookmarked some passages that most people seem to find utterly offensive.
Yes, I am *that* kind of guy. ROFLOL!
EDIT: Oh, and er... FullHD cinematics on the train commute... Gotta love that!
Thank you so much for the feedback guys. You'll be surprised how little information there is on the worthyness of FHD screens on 10" tablets. That said, do you guys really that clarity is worth it? My budget is a depressing 200$ and with that I was more than satisfied if I could get a TF101 but in a techno world like this, I'd hate to be left behind with a low res screen when newer tablets are out with more detailed screens.
Basically I can get used TF101s and Iconia A500s for 200$ easy (I don't mind Tegra 2). But if the detail is worth it, I'll try collecting 350$s+ and getting an Iconia A700 and if more were possible then maybe a TF700 or Nexus 10.

Have you considered the Kindle Fire HD ?
$269.00 USD really sharp screen 1920x1200 resolution at 254 ppi ...way better sound output than the Infinity.
It's 8.9 yet I don't see a huge difference in the screens when watching TV on it. (wife has one)
I had the Acer A700...loved it.
Returned it to Amazon after 30 days because overheating (normal use not modified) damaged it.

Yeah I've looked at the Kindle Fire HD 8.9 and Nook HD+, they have pretty good hardware specs but they both have some shortcoming or the other. For starters, both of these tabs are locked down. The Fire HD has slightly better dev support (CM10.1), but it costs more and doesn't have expandable storage. While the Nook has an SD card slot and is cheaper but doesn't have great dev support and also looks a bit retarded. I've been researching the A700 too. Heard about its issues and apparently most of its been fixed in its JB update.
I guess I'll just have to wait for FHD tablets to become more affordable or settle for a Nook/Fire HD

The only problem I see with those two would be that each uses its own app store, unless its been change, which will limit you on many apps. But by my guess with cyanogen it will install Play Store but I am not sure. I would research that. If you can get play store on it then it would be the one to go for. As you said though the downside it no expandable storage, but when a friend had a kindle I think the biggest downside was you were forced to use amazon app store. Plus storage can always be freed up and such, once you want a movie once you more then likely will not watch it again.

If you're in a country that sells the Nexus 10, you should definitely have a look at that.
It's much cheaper than the infinity and has an even better screen.
It all depends on how important you think screen quality is.
I like super bright and crisp displays, but it you prefer absolute smoothness, you shouldn't look into the tf700, unless you're into rooting, unlocking, etc.

They're both fully locked down but they can be rooted and from there the Play Store can be installed solving the apps problem. But I would still like a vanilla Android experience and I don't see that happening until both these tablets have a stable CM10.1 which is still wip. No biggie about storage but I'd hate to be restricted to just 16gb especially with 4k around the corner.
omg I just realised what a horrible consumer I am. I have no money but yet want the best and most future proof product for myself hahaha.

No, I'm from India and the Nexus 10 isn't available here and even if it were it would be at a premium thanks to our governments fantastic custom duties.
Hmmm I'm not that into screens and was all set to get a TF101 but now with HD screens being the new feature to go with tablets, I wanted to know if the detail between the screens was large enough between them for me to justify spending double for them (200$ for TF101 used, 400$ for TF700T used).

And how about a TF201 used?
Primes have good displays but are now more than 1,5 years "old" so I guess you'll be able to find that as some sort of compromise.
Mind that you will need to unlock it, because if not, it's a slow device (just like the tf700 before unlocking )
^ And don't forget the WiFi and GPS issues on the TF201....

Well, that would be 50$ over the TF101 and all it has is more horsepower and battery life (which I do not care so much for). And as shadowlea said, it would come with Wifi & GPS problems in tow.

In all honesty, I have the 201 too, and unless you're really on the edge of your wifi range, it shouldn't be much of an issue.
As for GPS, who cares about gps on a tablet? I have mine turned off by default

To be honest, I had (and recently sold) a TF101 + keyboard dock and when running the right OS version, it was an almost-perfect device! It was built well and performed well. I had more problems with my TF700 (of course, CleanROM helped there) than I did with my TF101.
TF201 had wifi and gps reception issues as has already been mentioned as well - something to consider. wifi is pretty integral to the normal use of these products - you don't want poor-performing wifi to reduce the overall performance and usability of the entire device.
Like I said, TF101 was a great device and you can get them cheap - I will still consider one...
