LG possibly dumping Qi, switching to PMA - Nexus 4 Accessories

whelp, looks like our Qi chargers are about to drop in price...

WTF.
Another "standard"? The mobile industry sucks.

they should tell AT&T to shove it, they are a cellular provider. They don't make the phones or create accersories

I just bought 2 WCP-300 chargers from Verizon.

List of tested induction charger for Nexus 4

Hi all, i've bought this wireless charger to charge my Samsung Galaxy S3 (with the included coil, it works), AND my brand new LG Nexus 4, and for this smartphone, it doesn't work.
Here the link:
http://cgi.ebay.fr/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=160923480453
It claims to be QI compatible, but mine doesn't work with my Nexus 4... Anyone else tried this charger ?
wow, that thing adds wireless charging to a phone that doesn't have wireless charging. that's pretty cool. sorry it didn't work with the N4 tho

yes, it works because Samsung Galaxy S3 already have a special pinout just under the backside cover.
This pinout is intendented to be used with the official charging kit wich will become available in few weeks from Samsung.
But others manufacturers have not wait much longer to create their own kit for Galaxy S3
If delivery works fine, i will receive an other wireless QI charger tomorrow... A philips one... I will post here if it works.

Thanks for the post. I had actually been looking at this one on eBay. It's only $50usd shipped in the US ebay. I'm sorry you bought something and ended up waisting your money, but I appreciate you sharing your experience with others so we don't make the same mistake.

The Philips charger come with an additional "bumper case" that add the wireless charging capacity to Iphone 4 and 4S.
But i don't use that "bumper case", only the charger, and it works

The Oregon Scientific QW201 "Time & Wireless Charging Station" works to charge the phone.
http://www2.oregonscientific.com/ca...-prod-Time-and-Wireless-Charging-Station.html
It also has a few other neat features like remote thermometer. However I'm returning mine for a few reasons.
1. the atomic clock set didn't work
2. viewing angle extremely limited
3. bright blue charging indicator
I'd probably have kept it if not for #1.

anybody wants to try these? its rated for 1800 mAh batteries.... seeing that some chargers that are rated for 1000 mAh all worked, and that the nokia DT-900's that are rated for 300 mAh did not work, these could potentially work (?). Ive been following the other threads on qi chargers for quite some time and most of the ones that are not working either has :
1) contact type charging (i.e sleeve with metal contactor to the charging pad)
2) wireless charging/qi standard but with lower rating for battery capacity (i.e nokia for example, rated at 300 mAh)
from the looks of it, this doesnt look like its a contact type..so there might be a slight chance that this might work..here's one sold in amazon :

[Q] Powermat/Nexus 5 Chargin

I have a Powermat PMM-1PA that I bought when I got my Sprint HTC EVO 4G when they first came out. I am getting the Nexus 5 in 2 weeks when my contract is eligible for upgrade. I want to know if the Nexus will work with this Powermat. I cant seem to find out online anywhere if it will. I appreciate the help!
The power mats aren't Qi comparable.

None of them are or just my model? How do I tell?
Duracell Power Mats use a different standard. If you would like to use wireless charging then you will need a charger that is "Qi" compatible. Search Amazon, and there are a few threads (more than a few) on XDA. Some are inexpensive and some aren't. I prefer the Google charger for the N5, but there are many to choose from. Nokia makes some nice ones as well. Go to the accessories subsection, a nice thread there to get you started.

Att g3 wireless charges out the box

When I bought the G3 they (Best Buy) told me it charges right out the box. So what I do, I buy the Duracell wireless charger, put my phone on it and what do you know nothing happens. So I go to an ATT store and ask them why do we have a back plate with prones to charge but it doesn't charge they said that it should be charging and that maybe I had a defective charging station. So they looked further and found out I needed the wireless folio case. So it doesn't charge out the box. So they gave me 50% off the folio case for telling me it charges out the box. Now I have to wait 3-5 days to charge wireless. And now I cant even use my Spigen cases to charge my phone wirelessly!! Ma'an what a day.lol

At least they sold you the right charging mat. Only the AT&T version uses the power mat technology. All the other G3 versions out there use Qi charging. But none of the US versions come with the charging components in the case "out of the box." I guess the wireless companies want to force you to buy another case.
50% off of a circle folio is not bad at all. I need to purchase one as I just for a powermat from at&t for 10! Clearance package for the iPhone 4s but the powermat is the same. Now I just need to purchase the case to charge wirelessly.
No matter what, I can never stay away from android for long.

This is accurate. For a limited time there is an offer of 50% off of an accessory with a LG G3 purchase...the folio case is included. Hopefully some business in the Asian Pacific Rim will develop a replacement back housing for our AT&T G3 variants so that powermat will work without a flip case.

That's interesting. I've tried three corporate stores in Chicago, and none had them. On the website, they're listed as "online only." I also tried doing the live chat to see if they could tell me where the cases might be in stock, and was told they're available online only. Clearly that's not true, but I wish there were a way to find out what stores have them.
The ones at the corporate store are the one whites. I don't believe they have the contacts for nfc or wireless charging. The one online is the Grey model. It states pma ready.

Wow, I'm here in Massachusetts. The corporate closest to my house had the PMA QC cases and the powermats.. I assumed that all corporate stores would be similar.
I'm gonna have to make a trip to the store and see if I can find one then.

I didn't get mine from corporate store. The corprate store called
ATT.com and ordered it for me. Then gave me a store discount of $30. I'm in TN and they don't have the cases know where in the area. Can only but them online.

No you need a PMA charger the LG one is qi.
Replacing back
I have a question... Could one just buy a replacement back off of eBay for a carrier that supports qi charging...like say t-mobile, and switch it with the att battery cover? Or are there internal components required as well?

Anyone else annoyed about the lack of included wireless charging?

I'd probably never use it, but to sell a $40 nickel and dime add on for something that would probably cost less than $2 in material costs on a $900 phone kind of rubs me the wrong way.
Ok. I'll move on.

I am with you... I actually considered not getting the edge and that was a big reason. I guess I'll just divert money away from holiday gifts so I can buy the additional kit. Smh

On top of that they don't even make it available until who knows when.
I noticed the note 4 and the edge have similar back/batteries. I would if a note 4 qi receiver would work on the Edge?

That's what I was wondering -
I saw this (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/351204499918?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649) and thought that if the internals are the same then it might also be used - at significantly less cost than the official version.
Can anyone take a photo of the Note Edge with the back cover removed for comparison?
If no one else does, I will get a picture this afternoon when mine comes in....
Disregard my earlier request - found pics online.
Appears the short answer is no.
EDGE: http://assets.hardwarezone.com/img/2014/09/Samsung_Galaxy_Note_Edge_Rear_Removed.jpg
NOTE4: http://assets.hardwarezone.com/img/2014/10/Samsung_Galaxy_Note_4_Review_Back.jpg
eBay - Note4 receiver:
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/351204499918?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649
Looks like the top row of connectors are vertically oriented on the Note4 but horizontal on the Note Edge.
The "L" shape for the connectors to the side of the battery are an "L" shape for the edge and reversed for the Note4 "_|"
Furthermore, the spacing from the battery looks a little different.
Depending on the actual charging receiver maybe one could bend it around to suit but it's not something I'd be keen to do personally.
As an aside, looking at the official wireless receiver/back - is the coil just under the metal plate or does it have a larger, hidden surface area? Some Qi hacks I've seen put the coil at the bottom of the phone - which makes it look like you need to carefully position your phone on the plate for the charge to kick in. (i.e. Hanging off the side of the plate so the charger / receiver are aligned)
Maybe there'll be a low cost alternative like the Note4 receiver (eBay link) in a few weeks. Until then, I guess I'm fine with charging via MicroUSB.
Give it a few more days. There will be one soon. LoL
Found
Check this link out. Just ordered one and when it arrives I will update further. Just could not do without wireless after having it on my Note 3 for so long!

I have never seen a phone include a wireless charger before. I doubt it will be something that phones will come with, unless you cant remove the battery back.
It would just up the cost of the device more and a ton of people dont even know you can charge wiresless with a kitl

Many phones support wireless charging, but none include it.
Docomo had a promotion to include a free wireless charger for pre-orders. Also, they're the only carrier that sells the gold/platinum model, which is sweet; but that's besides the point. Love this wireless charging feature. Going to see how well an aftermarket one works, as I would like one for my office.
