[APP] MSL Utility , the EASIEST way (kyocera, sanyo, zte) - Android Apps and Games

MSL Utility
I frequently see people asking how to get the MSL/SPC code for their phone, and there are several ways to get it, but this is probably the easiest way for owners of kyocera, sanyo, and zte phones. I have used this several times and can confirm it works perfectly. All you need to do is:
1. download the apk. from https://www.dropbox.com/s/uxzy7mr13ch3i9i/MSLUtility.apk
2. copy it to your sd card
3. install it on the phone
4. open the app. and touch "Read SPC"
-Please note I am not the creator of this app, only passing it along for others to use.

You must be using a different apk file. The MSL reader has nothing to do with wifi. I'll double check the download link...
edit: just downloaded, installed and ran it. Worked perfect. So I don't know what you did. See my screenshot taken minutes ago.

Ya I get that screen with WiFi on. But with it off it just crashes while bringing up the WiFi network select dialog box. edit: Sprint Huweiy Ascend is the phone i'm attempting this on.

Doesnt work ZTE Awe N800. Fatal error

MSL for ZTE AWE
If you get fatal error by using this tool, it's because of the OTA update from ZTE. To fix this, go to zteusa website and download the stock rom update.zip, put it in your sd card, using volume down and power button to enter recovery mode and flash stock rom. Then you can read the MSL.

Is there any new way to get SPC

msl utility
Will it work on nexus l700, the msl utility?

Has anyone tried to use the MSL app today/this weekend? It is not working for me. Is there another method that will work?
I have tried several different apps as well as a few methods on here like Logcat and Connectbot but nothing is working for me.

[Q] Anyway to install SWYPE

Is there anyway of using swype on this phone without going through the root process and loaded a custom ROM?
TIA
You can sign up for the beta at http://swypeinc.com, but since the phone is locked down to keep you from installing non-Market apps, you won't be able to install the file they send you. If you can get your hands on the .apk file for the installation, you can use Sideload Wonder Machine to install it without needing root access.
http://forum.androidcentral.com/htc-inspire-4g/60295-guide-installing-swype-beta-htc-inspire-4g.html
I don't know if it requires root, but I have root and I got mine. lol
Thanks, I will give it a shot
I tried every trick known to man .. lol ... the only way you are going to get swype if it is an ATT phone is to root the phone otherwise they have blocked the option.
I was able to install it via Side Wonder Machine. I must say, it's amazing.
Install APK's easily
This is the best way at least for me. Super easy and the software has many other uses.
(P.S. I stole this... it's from some android forum)
1. Download Droid Explorer for your system. http://de. codeplex. com/ (remove spaces from link)
2. Now, go to your phone. Settings> Applications> Development > USB Debugging.
3. Make sure you downloaded the drivers for the captivate then plug in your phone and select PC connect and mount the phone.
4. Now open Droid Explorer and connect the device. Right click and select batch install.
5. Now a screen should pop up and you should select the APKs you would like to install and it is self explanatory from there on out.
Go here
http://forum.androidcentral.com/htc-inspire-4g/60295-guide-installing-swype-beta-htc-inspire-4g.html
Register and follow the instructions.
This was posted in the other thread about keyboards for the inspire. It's exactly what I did and My phone is 100% stock. No root or anything.
Followed the AndroidCentral method last night and it worked great!

Thanks as well. I should be getting my Inspire tomorrow. I'm so used to swyping on my captivate this should make my life easier. Can't wait to sideload this on.
Does anyone know if its possible to use the swype from the motorola's? Like the atrix, droid x etc. I really like the theme of that one.
Nope, none of these worked
The Android Central method--i don't get past the ADB command, computer doesn't know what to do with that...
I can sideload fine and got the installer on my phone but it won't download the actual swype.apk. Instructions say to wait even though it's an error... Waited half hour and still no swype.apk appeared in downloads folder.
Took the swype.apk provided in this forum. Installed fine but out of date... which is fine. I'm happy to get officially from Swype. Tried the swype installer now I have swype (out-of-license) installed. Installer said you need to update license. Ok fine. Great! Tried and came up with error.
I love swype that I had on my captivate. I would pay for the app. Just not sure I'm willing to root my two day old phone just to get swype on it...

I used the androidcentral method. Worked fire me, no root. Just sign up for the beta on swype's website. Then go from there. I think I was stuck in the same part as you. Basically you just continue on with the process don't worry about the part that says wait or error.
You will get the updated installer direct from swype website.

I'm wondering if we cant just remove the "Tetherguard" app from the phone via Titanium. I'm not sure if this is what prevents us from tethering, or the app that phones home... but we might have some luck.
Other than that, can we use other apps that will bypass this?

Unfortunately that didnt work, I just tried.
I uninstalled teatherguard via Ti B/u tried to run my tether app, no luck. Tried to run the factory installed hotspot software and instead of getting denied it just wouldnt turn on. If I went into settings I could make changes and try to turn it on however it would just act as if it was loading and eventually do nothing.
At that time I went ahead and installed barnacle and no luck there either, again it wouldnt deny but it wouldnt boot up either.
Hmmmm
Okay so after playing with the app "WiFi Tether for Root Users, Muller, Lemons, Buxton" I finally got it to work. You will need the app downloaded and installed, go to settings, select profile and select "generic ICS" should be the 3rd option, then hit the menu bar again to select re install binary files.
After that turn on the hot spot and connect with your device!
Actually I'm using the HTC app for tethering!! I did this that a saw on a Vivid ROM thread, I think it was on Dark Raider's..... so I don' deserve any credit, I just want to help because I got my One X yesterday, rooted it and tried it and it works perfectly!!
You'll need SQ Lite Editor:
1) Dialer Storage
2) telephony.db
3) carriers
4) 12 Entitlement 310410
you shoud change the value under "apn" from "broadband" to "pta"
5) Please restart your device and you will get it!!
Enjoy my friends!!!
Thank you for that fix!!!!
I search hih and low for the entitlement check in all the databases. I would have never thought to look in telephony.

It's not for the timid.
find the telephony.db in /data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases copy it to /mnt/sdcard
edit it with the sqlite manager of your choice. I used the firefox extension.
Find line 12 and change it from broadband to pta.
copy it back to /data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases
reboot phone
You'll need root explorer or similar file manager with root access to get to the file and put it back
After that I just added the widget

You're welcome. I googled the file location that took a while. After that it was cake.
the maker of CWM also made a tethering app, it also claims that it's almost non-detectable by carriers since it does it with proxies and works with non-root https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.koushikdutta.tether
just another option. If you use ssdroid, this is another tethering method that does it with proxies and also is nondetectable that i am experimenting with http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=25818971

pretty sure you should use a root file explorer to remove it from system/apps because you have to remove the odex as well as the apk. not saying it will work but it might. since you already removed the apk with titanium you should use a root file explorer and remove the odex file that's probably still there and see if it fixes it. im trying it now and will report back.
I searched like crazy and I can't find what PTA stands for. I know APN stands for Access Point Name. I also found out that PTA is an APN that is only utilized by LTE provisioned accounts.

.....I don't know ....possibilities are endless but the curiosity is driving me nuts. Does anybody know?

Need Testers for Unlocker App

Hi,
I'm looking for a few testers, preferably people who I have interacted in the past via IRC/forums. I finally have my app at a point where I think it's ready for Google Play, but I need to make sure that it works in a variety of roms and environments and that have a non-tmobile sim ready for testing for successful locks/unlocks.
Note that this can potentially leave your phone with a borked efs partition, which is why I want to test the efs backup/restore functionality first. If you are on ICS/JB you will be safer since the bml3 partition is still untouched. If anything goes severely wrong you can use a one-click back to GB which will also restore the untouched /efs partition after which you can flash back to ICS/JB to have a working /efs partition again.
I need people who can test the app using different GB/ICS/JB roms and give me feedback on whether the following works for them:
Does backup and restore work properly? (check /sdcard/efs_backup.tar for the backup, make sure by copying the file to your computer and opening it in an archive program such as 7-zip)
Try wiping /efs, verifying that the /efs partition is borked. After restoring a backup made with the Unlocker app and a reboot, does voice/data/text work again?
Do you get more than one superuser request while using the app in a single app launch (Ex: You launch the app, while using the app does a superuser request pop up more than once while using the app?)
Do you get an unlock code when you press the Get Unlock Code button?
Does the unlock code get saved to /sdcard/unlockcode.txt?
Does hex unlock work properly? (please test with a non-tmobile sim card)
Does hex lock work properly? (please test with a non-tmobile sim card, after re-locking your phone you should no longer be able to use data/voice/text while you have the non-tmobile sim card inserted)
Can you successfully use your phone on the non-tmobile card after unlock, lock, and unlock again?
Again, I'm looking for people who already know their way around the phone for testing. If you've never used adb shell before please don't bother replying.
Thank you in advance for your time.

Back when you first released this (if it is the same app) i used this to test on my phone. I believe i was using and GB rom and it worked perfectly. I can't vouch for any other roms or test right now, as i dont have another sim, but if i get one, I could probably test a few roms for you.
Please don't kill this thread with maybe's,coulds, ifs, and woulds...please show some respect and reply only if you "can" and "will" test.
Sorry FB if I'm stepping on your toes but its not right if your quest for testers gets filled with unheplful replies.
It's OK then. I won't have access to another sim until I go abroad in August.

Does backup and restore work properly? yes it did
1. Try wiping /efs, verifying that the /efs partition is borked. After restoring a backup made with the Unlocker app and a reboot, does voice/data/text work again? i never tested this function.
2. Do you get more than one superuser request while using the app in a single app launch? no i only got one request which was granted.
3. Do you get an unlock code when you press the Get Unlock Code button? yes but this unlock code wasn't unlocking my device, it seemed to be a issue with my device because i check and confirmed the code in hex editor so this should work with everyone else.
4. Does the unlock code get saved to /sdcard/unlockcode.txt? yes this indeed worked and i checked the file to make sure the code was there.
5. Does hex unlock work properly? this was the STUNNING PART! the hex editor was the only feature that unlocked my device! it saved my life because i only had 2 tries left and all i did was click "hex unlock" but the network never came up instantly i had to do an restart.
6.Does hex lock work properly? yes i relocked the device and placed Digicel sim in and it did not register
NB: i got an force close i think from the phone app not sure at which point in time but i dont think it was regarding to the unlocking app because it is perfect !
anything i left out please alert me.

It seems that every time I log into the developer console and check the stats it says the app gets updated :/.
I AM working on an update though, mostly UI stuff to make it more usable, but I've been having trouble getting my source code to compile. :/. Hopefully before the end of the summer

[GUIDE] HOW TO Enable Wi-Fi Tether on stock Kit Kat 4.4.2

I took the update because I boot looped my phone trying to upgrade to a rooted stock version of Kit Kat.
After going to stock I lost root and of course custom recovery. As many have noticed, there is no viable tether app that works with Kit Kat on this device. In doing a search it appears that this is the case with many devices that have gotten Kit Kat.
So I did a search and through several different threads I believe I have found the workaround.
I am new to doing "How-To's" so please forgive me if this is not as professional as others. I am not a developer but have some knowledge of working with various facets of Android. So, here goes:
1. Go to settings--> Tethering and networks ---> Mobile networks --> Access point names
2. Under Access point names, you should have T-Mobile LTE
3. Click menu ---> New APN
4. Name --> Whatever you want
5. APN ---> should say "Not Set" change to "Fast.T-Mobile.com"
6. APN Type--> type "default,supl,mms,dun"
7. APN Protocol --> Be sure it says "IPv4"
8. Menu--> Click save
9. Change APN to the newly created Access Point
10. Download : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.foxfi
11. Download the PC app (if needed)
12. (Optional) Download: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.foxfi.key
Follow instructions on setting up FoxFi which I will not cover here.
I am using this now to type this thread. It is a little buggy but I think that is FoxFi not necessarily this method of tether. I have to at times disable/re-enable the PC app if I lose connection.
I hope this helps folks out there.

Nothing wrong, works perfectly fine. This is an alternative means through a different app providing a means to tether without utilizing a set amount of data provided by carrier.

Yes, speeds are comparable. Only issue, and I believe this is with PDANet/FoxFi is you at times have to reset the connection on the computer. I am running Windows 7 BTW
Wait, is it not easier way to do this:
(if you have root)
1. download SQlite editor app from G.Play (pay for it few bucks)
2. search for com.android.providers.settings and open it
3. open "settings.db" then "global" and under "tether_dun_required" change 1 to 0,
save and turn on tethering without any limits.... Just after reboot you need to set 1 to 0 again to make it work...
I saw it somewhere around and that worked for me!
(Didn't have to change or create new APN.
(This is possible solution for NON-T-mobile users of D801 model, because I'm one..)
That is if you have root. As stated in the OP this is a workaround for those that have lost root via 4.4.2.

Will this affect the system tether app as well?

This solution IS for system tethering.
If you have rooted device, system tethering works like a charm with this.
Also, this works even if you are not T-mobile user, meaning, you SIM unlock device and you can tether with any SIM on any network in the world...
I guess those guys who updated OTA to 4.4.2 will have to wait root for D801. I saw there is a way to flash KitKat in recovery and immediately superuser.zip after that...
I'll personally go for that way.
Doesn't seem to work for me. Tried using my tablet connected to foxfi hotspot and got the usual T-Mobile error notice that hotspot isn't enabled when I opened the browser.
You can also setup a vpn to connect to and it won't redirect you to the upsell page if you get that issue
Ivanprskalo said:
Wait, is it not easier way to do this:
(if you have root)
1. download SQlite editor app from G.Play (pay for it few bucks)
2. search for com.android.providers.settings and open it
3. open "settings.db" then "global" and under "tether_dun_required" change 1 to 0,
save and turn on tethering without any limits.... Just after reboot you need to set 1 to 0 again to make it work...
I saw it somewhere around and that worked for me!
(Didn't have to change or create new APN.
(This is possible solution for NON-T-mobile users of D801 model, because I'm one..)

If this works, you have fixed the only issue that would desire me to install a custom rom
Edit: seems to be working so far, spent half an hour on the tablet and the tmobile app shows no increase in the hotspot data usage
Ok. Let me try and clarify. The step by step in the OP can be used on any ROM but is specifically useful for those like me that took the update to 4.4.2 and lost root.
When using FoxFi app it is recommended that you use USB tether mode. Also you need to hide your activity but I'm not going to cover that. I Will leave that to others.

Then one thing is left to be clarified:
Do I need to use that T-mobile APN? Because that won't work for me or every other user that haven't T-mobile SIM card, obviously...
So, do you think that is safe to assume that method from OP will work for me if I use my regular APN?
I can't speak to other carriers directly. But, the simplest way to tell; if you use the app and it does not "trip" your carrier hotspot app then you should be good.

Neither of these methods worked for me. FoxFi kept telling me that I didn't have an internet connection and editing my com.android.providers.settings database kept reverting to "1" after a reboot. After the latter method, I temporarily lost the functionality of my home button and root went away. I thought I was going to have to flash back to 4.2.2 for second. Thankfully after a few reboots and a restored file all was good.
Edit: OK, I finally got FoxFi working. I guess I didn't read the directions completely. But this didn't stop my tethering data usage from going up.
Make sure you have the settings in FoxFi set to hide internet usage. If you need my settings for that, let me know.

I have actually tried both methods and get them to work.
Now, I'm on 4.4.2 stock, I didn't took the OTA update - instead I've flashed that 1.4GB KK update trough TWRP, and then superuser.zip. It wasn't easy, especially because I didn't have TWRP installed at all and OTA was downloaded (kinda without my permission, in background, and then I got that notification....)
So, now, I'm on KK stock, rooted, but I'm not sure if I got recovery... and guess what, I don't care...
Both tethering methods work for me, bud since is easier I use system tether.
What I'm trying to say is: Don't take OTA guys if you have root, flash trough recovery your KK and you will keep root, you can tether, you keep your data and apps... It isn't the easiest way but it is the one with most satisfying result..

OK, read between the lines a bit and got took the steps I believe you're referring to. However, still no luck with tethering data. Would you mind sharing your settings for FoxFi?

On your desktop, click on the PDANet icon in the task tray. Click settings, Hide Tether usage, Level 1
That's it. Should work. Again, you may have to disconnect/reconnect from time to time via the tray icon.

It was stated that this will revert after a restart.... Simple either don't restart or adjust the value after you restart

So just to verify. For rooted folks the sqlite method works? I can't get my connected device to access the net but I am also in a T-Mobile black hole for the next two weeks with only edge when I am lucky

(Q) How to root Mediapad X2?

I used lots of methods trying to root Huawei Mediapd X2 but got no lucks.
Anybody gets successful?
I happened to see there is an article published recently on this an some comments say they succeeded. I didn't try it myself, as I am not sure the Super-Root.apk used in the article is safe or not.
(Please replace the <dot> to . in the URL as I don't have permission to put links.. Sorry for the inconvenience..)

I did some more search and found the file Super-Root.apk is actually Framaroot version 1.4.1 (you can tell that from the MD5 checksum.) There is new version available and you can try it from

tozhangkai...the first link just goes to an endless circle of surveys (have seen that before for other files...i do not know if people really are able to get files from that link..but appears you have)
Framaroot...1.4.1 is an old one from October last year..the latest is 1.93 and that does not even run anyway (immediately has a message saying basically that this exploit does not work for the system)..anyway both do not work
EDIT
i also tried srs one click root..went through several reboots,,,and said at the end the rooting was a success and that superuser apk was installed..but it wasn't
may have a go at it again later..(it came up with a message to accept and i missed it and it timed out on me)

That is why I am looking at rooting it through the system image itself (see my other posts on this and where I posted the link for complete firmware..on the mediapad x2 announced thread) but will flash only if highly confident as doing this for the first time for any phone (that is, rooting myself through system image)..need someone with the skills here to step in

Yeah, patience is not a virtue I possess in my normal life, but because of the people giving of their free time and effort I've never found it hard to wait for this stuff.

Unlock is required before trying any root method.
use below URL to apply for unlock code:
http://www.emui.com/plugin.php?id=unlock&mod=unlock&action=apply
It's a Chinese web page, but easy to guess.
If the web page doesn't work, take a snapshot of the phone box with IMEI and SN number, send to [email protected] requesting for unlock code.
They'll reply in 2~4 weeks, too slow. An email with 16 number unlock code.
Use fastboot unlock OEM to unlock the bootloader.
Root and 3rd party recovery is only possible after the unlock.
For now, you cannot unlock even if you get the code
I unlocked bootloader , but the root can not be done any program .
I did unlock and someone showed that the root genius can root the phone via adb command.
The bad news is that I can't install the adb driver somehow
Root genius can not handle it . I can not install any CWM recovery. Maybe someone has any advice ?

Haven't tried flashing anything yet (can't unlock bootloader) but I wanted to point out that KingoRoot, VRoot (a.k.a iRoot) and Super-Root all do NOT work. They all fail (with varying behavior and/or error messages). Running the B013 OTA update.
Did the B013 ota update worked for u?

Just send Huawei an Email with your IMEI #, Model Number, Serial Number and Product Number telling them you keep getting an error when trying to unlock your phone from their website. That's what I did. Of course you need to be unlocked before you can do any of the following.
-Make sure you have the drivers installed for the phone
-Plug the USB cable into the computer and into the phone
-Turn phone off and while turning it back on hold volume down and phone will enter download mode
-Download Android Platform tools from my Dropbox I made it easier for everyone. (The super_bootb013.apk file is included)
https://www.dropbox.com/sh/7dgdl6r2nftz5mt/AABvdjdt4a4zRNAsSE1QR2Oaa?dl=0
-Right click on the Android Platform Tools folder while holding in Shift and select Open Command Window Here
-When the command prompt opens type in fastboot flash boot super_boot.b013.img
-After it finishes, type in fastboot reboot. The phone will boot normally.
-Then you have two options. Download SuperSU from the Google Play Store, install it, open up and update the binary if it prompts you.
or
-Included in my Android Platform Tools folder is the Superuser.apk file. Just install that manually, then open it and update the binaries. When you reboot you will be rooted. This works on B013 only.
-I also installed the Chinese TWRP and even though I can't read Chinese, I have no problems getting around in it.
