I have just got my p6200 3g from malaysia. Couldnt be more satisfied. I feel like I just opened the only present I wanted on Christmas morning and its better than I hoped. Of course this came with an international gigantic 3 pronged charger adapter. I have (2) 2amp 5 volt adapters I was using for my dell streak 7. I tried them both and still get the red X. However when powered off, the device shows the battery charging animation. In settings menu it says battery state..discharging. I have ordered one from amazon due any day now, supposedly works with all versions of gtabs including 7.0+. Am I getting a trickle charge or is this due to not being a samsung charger? Im using the supplied samsung cable and outlet is capable of 2amps 5 volts.. please help! thank you!
the big 3 prong plug says 2.5 amp 250V? come on this thing cant need all that.. what does this batt need to charge??
##nevermind, I have the charger, just need the 2 prong USA adapter, hopefully I can find one. anyone have any ideas?
The red X is indeed due to not being a Samsung charger. Samsung tablets look for D+ and D- to be tied together and floating at around 1.2 volts or so. If they see anything else (such as the voltages that iPad chargers put on D+ and D-), they'll assume a USB connection and not charge.

To my knowledge, all Galaxy Tab variants use the same method of signaling a "dumb" charger. So any Samsung charger intended for a Tab should work - see my previous post for details.
thanks a lot dude. excellent.
Or get one of these

Plug it between the cable & any aftermarket usb charger, even the ipad ones, viola normal charging. Can even plug it into the computer for normal charging just a bit slower
hi,
i have the p6200 version of the galaxy tab plus, came with a usb cable and an outlet charger that connects to usb cable. when charging on outlet, it charges fine, but when i connect the tablet to my sony laptop, it says MTP instead of USB connection and there is a red X on the battery icon of my tablet, it's also not charging. how do i get my p6200 to charge on usb connected to my laptop? thanks!
I could be wrong, but i don't think it will charge via laptop usb.

It will and does. I've done it, it just charges MUCH slower and if you use it while plugged in too much it will drain at a slower rate than if you didn't have it plugged in. I was backing up my tab and the battery was at 50%, I plugged it into my computer and by the time the backup was done (nearly 16GB full) it was at 70% (took 2 hours)
Buy one of these: http://www.dealextreme.com/p/usb-data-charging-extension-cable-for-samsung-p1000-black-91141
Set it to charge mode, plug between cable and charger (be it a computer or an otherwise not supported USB charger) and it will charge

My Galaxy tab 2 (GT-P1000) will not charge while it is on. I get the same charging icon with the red X. I am using the original cord that came with the tablet. Only when I turn off the tablet will it charge on the cord. The USB still works fine for connection to Kies. I just can't charge it normally. Any suggestions.
Also, I have been unable to sync my tablet so that my music, video, and pictures are available through the "video" and "music" icons on the desktop. I can play the files individually, but haven't been able to add them to the right library for these media players. What am I doing wrong? LOL

I believe you are asking in the wrong forum. This is the Galaxy Tab 7.0plus (GT-P62XX) area. You should ask in the GT2 section or the original GT forum (the model number you posted is the first Galaxy Tab). The fact that you have the product naming mixed up tells me you may have reading comprehension problems
Anyway. You are not being descriptive enough of your issue with usb charging. Are you using the Tab's charger? If not, it will charge really slow if at all (you didn't read this thread at all, did you?).
Also, You can't (AFAIK) play files directly off your Tab connected to a computer via MTP. It would have to be mounted as an external drive for the computer to use it as such.
I've searched the internet and my GoogleFu seems to be failing me. I'd like to know if, for example, I go to the store and buy the charger (adapter + USB cable) that fits the Galaxy Tab2, will it charge the note 10.1?
I'd like to know two things, will it charge (not just detect the connection) and are all 30-pin -> USB cables the same. I've figured out (through trial and error) that the note 10.1 won't charge unless it is plugged into the power adapter it came with (it'll detect the connection, but won't charge).

I use the charger that came with Tab 10.1 without problems.
All Samsung Tablets use the same connection cables.
I have Galaxy Tab P1000 and the charger also works on my Note 10.1. It is the same, 5V, 2A.
Had the same issue with Tab 8.9. I have a 2012 Wrangler, with a built in USB port, also have a USB charger plugged into the power port. When I connect my 7.7, all I get is a red X over the battery icon. In the settings under status, it says "discharging".i have no issues with my Note2 using the same ports. Have tried different cables with the tab.
Any body have any ideas? The tab is stock, unrooted, running ICS.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 being a tablet needs a 2A charger to charge, most smartphones need only 1A some even less

My USB charger is a 2 Amp, but is dual port. Could have sworn the package said it was 2 amps per port, unless both ports were used, then would be 1amp per port. Then my other is 2.5 Micro USB, BUT has a USB port in it as well.
The P6800 is picky for what charger you use. I got several chargers and tabs and phones. 2 of those are very picky, the 7.7 and the HP-touchpad.
Just get a real Samsung car charger and you will be ok.
maybe the thing (tab) needs to be powered) OFF before it will charge in your car's USB charge port...
I know at home with the USB plugged into the laptop.. it will NOT charge,,,...unless I power it OFF.. then it will charge...

I'll give that a shot, although would be pointless. Can't use gps, data or phone if it's off. I haven't bought the OEM charger for it yet.
Thanks!

Hi,
I spent a lot of time searching for good charger (bought at least 4) different types, and got allways the same results the red X until few days ago. I tried my Samsung I9100 phone cable (micro USB) with an adpter (P1000) bought from eBay (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Micro-USB-3...Readers_USB_Host_Adapters&hash=item484f20b751) for almost nothing. The result was impressive, on on hour drive the device charges at a rate of 10% progress (without having the red X).
Some thing else that may interst some of questioning the charge from the laptop, I had the same fantastic result (but the adapter does not allow Sync).
Cheers

there are ways to get this done.. you'll just have to buy a new piece of hardware and they are way cheap.

I cannot charge my Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 with my powerbank . Help me .
Are you using the lead that came with the Powerbank, or the Samsung USB lead. I have a similar power pack but the Note only charges with the lead from the power pack as they have adapted the connection for Samsung tablets.
Probally down to ampage, the output needs to be 2amp i think but phones only need 1amp

I was using a Zagg Sparq which had a high-output USB port for tabets. The Note wouldn't indicate that it was charging (no lightning bolt through the battery indicator) but it in fact was. I got the Samsung battery pack and it works fine now and the Note charges a lot faster than it did with the Sparq. The Samsung has a daisy chain feature which is cool so if both the battery pack and device need to be charged it's smart enough to charge the device first before itself. It's a bit pricey though but it's 9,000 mAh and incredibly small and light. It also comes with a one foot USB cable for the Note and one for micro USB.

Any signal about the power bank when you using your power bank charging your devices?
Most power banks are wired for Apple devices - being the marketing lead - and you need a converter. I found one that works perfectly but I cannot locate it at the moment. I found this while looking though, just order one - may make it easier not to have to carry quite so many things: http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B009ZQKMDA

solution
The simple things first.
make sure your power bank is fully charged
Make sure it has a 2A output. Modern power banks have both 1 Amp and 2 Amp.
On other sites it is recommended to sever the green and white wire in the Samsung usb to Samsung connector cable. On the Samsung side the green and white wires are joined together (signal wires).
This will not do the job on a Samsung Note 10.1
What is needed is that the green and white wired joined together need to have a voltage on them of approximately 1.2 Volts. The Samsung Note 10.1 recognises this as a compatible charger.
The same can be said of a car charger.
So by using a 33Kohm resistor from the red wire (+5V) to the grren and white junction and a 10 Kohm resistor from the Black (0 Volt ) line to the same green and white junction you will produce a voltage of approx 1.2 Volts.
I have tried this. My prototype looks like a web made by a spider on **s. But I get a green charge icon - no more red cross. Finally.
Cheers
Same problem in Note 10+
But this is not Note 10 + forum .
Can't help myself for answering to this issue.
I to was having those issues on only charging with original adapter and original lead.
After updating with costum os, ressurection remix, i was flabbergasted when plugging the lead info my PC, it started charging.
From now on, original lead andere any charger will charge my note
So all is just a software issue
I bought a MHL Adapter (microUSB - HDMI) from DealExterme [1].
It works well, even without power, but when I put the original charger (2A), the S4 starts charging but can't even hold the charge. The charge will slowly dropping over time.
Is this normal?

Yeah this tends to happen when the phone is draining more battery then the charger is charging the phone.
Even with de 2A charger? This is a lot of power!
Not sure if that's what happens or the MHL adapter that doesn't pass the full 2A for the S4.
Someone who has the original Samsung MHL adapter can tell if the same thing happens?
I don't have this problem with the official oem samsung adapter.... Even in the manual it says to use a 2a charger from samsung to get power...

Great to know that!
Can you confirm that by using the official Samsung adapter + 2A charger the phone battery doesn't drop?
Other questions:
1. What's your S4? I9500 or I9505?
2. What's your firmware? Stock? Google Edition? Other?
3. What's your kernel? Stock?

Firstly, I don't have an S4, but I do have a Note 2 which also comes with a 2A charger. In my experience when using an MHL adapter the phone will only charge very slowly at best. If you are making it work hard, the battery will slowly drain. If I understand correctly, this is because of a limitation regarding how much power a normal USB port can supply.
When your phone is connected to a wall charger, go into settings and 'more' and tap 'battery'. At the top it should tell you it's charging, and that the type is A/C. Now plug in your MHL adapter, and plug the charger into the MHL adapter and go back into the same settings page - on my Note 2 (and also my HTC Sensation), this page now shows 'USB' instead of A/C. If the same is true with the S4 (and I'm pretty sure it will be), this is the source of the problem. It wouldn't matter if the charger was 1A, 2A or even more, the phone will only draw so much from what it thinks is a USB port. It's a pain, but there you go.
When you connect your phone to a TV via MHL, try lowering the screen brightness on the phone to minimum manually. If you have a quick search, there's also an app on here that should allow you to power of the S4's screen completely and still allow you to output a picture to the TV. Sorry, I don't have the link to hand.
Its the cable. The MHL cable is just a poor cable, if it says USB like Ouzo says then you would need to short the data pins on it or use a charge only cable (the charge only cable may not even work though).

I get the part that my MHL adapter might be delivering energy in "USB mode" instead of "AC mode".
My big question is: by the report of "big samm", it seems that the original Samsung MHL adapter does not suffer from this problem. Ie: it delivers energy in "AC mode". Is this true? I can trust and spend $ 40 on it?
If anyone can confirm, I appreciate!
I would just go for a real one from samsung so that way you won't have any problems with the battery charging because it's designed to charge + play

The problem is that I still don't have a confirmation whether in fact the original MHL Adapter solves this problem and the investment is very high (4x the price I paid for the alternate adapter).
I dont know if it's really "designed to charge + play."

The app is Screen Standby. It freezes and closes when the wizard asks to verify root + busybox. Ignoring this part of the wizard it works but when it make phone screen black all my touches start to have a delay of 8s. Any movement on the screen takes 8 seconds to be played on TV. Totally buggy.

Ah, ok, I control my phone with a Bluetooth keyboard with built in mouse (works very well for many things, but not games designed for touch input, though there is an app to help with this in the Play store), I didn't realise you'd still want to touch the screen.
Maybe someone with a genuine Samsung MHL adapter can tell us what the battery screen shows when theirs
is in use with the Samsung charger attached. Also, you could ask nztechfreak, he knows all about such things....
Ok i just checked the manual again and it says " Use only Samsung approved chargers (over1a) there you go...

This is simply beyond ridiculous.
First, let me clarify for couple people that barged in here. This problem has nothing to do with official/unofficial stuff.
I have genuine Samsung Galaxy S4, I have genuine samsung mhl 2.0 adapter, and I have genuine wall charger (2000 mA) as well as the usb cable. You can't go more official than that.
And EVEN with all that, the battery is being drained quickly, despite the mhl adapter being connected with the wall charger. This is simply beyond belief. OBVIOUSLY the phone will be on high usage when the mhl adapter is being connected, because it's the whole point, so did Samsung actually took care of the bigger battery drainage at this point, in connection with charging current? Nope.
You cannot go couple hours before the phone is dead, despite being "in charge mode". The customer uses official samsung stuff, it connects the charging cable, and yet the phone is not charging (just the drainage is slower).
If I met this Samsung CEO that is the first one on the stage to present the cashing cow everytime new galaxy is being presented (well if that's the case he is the first one to ask about his product ain't that correct?), I would ask him about this and would keep nagging this problem to him until his ears would bleed, and he would promise it will be fixed in the next update of mhl 2.0 adapter.
And just to make it clear, the problem is not with the battery drainage, but with the current being suplied from the mhl adapter. If it was 2000 mA, as it is when you connect the phone directly to the wall charger, there would be no problem. Instead it is 500 mA, as it is when you connect the phone to USB port, and because of that, the phone is dead in the manner of hours, despite "charging" (pun intended).
Amazing.
i tested i9505 with his original wall charger.
Original charger with original usb cable consumption is 1200mah
Original charger with other usb cable consumption is 460 mah
So first is important to use original usb cable.
Then i tested compatible mhl cable with original charger, its consumption is 300mah.
So the problem is the slow charging even with kernel with fast charging.
I ordered original mhl adapter, i will test it when come and post result
I'm late to the show, but will report my experience as well.
Last month on stock TW MDK using all genuine Samsung including a MHL 2.0 adapter, I also experienced battery depletion and a hot phone. I failed to check the Status to see whether it was charging at APC or USB rate.
I attributed it to the screen being on and the phone streaming movie data across the cell network.
Just now, I plugged the MHL 2.0 adapter in, then the charger, but not into HDMI. It shows USB for two seconds then it says AC on the phone Status. Same thing a couple times in a row. Plugging the charger directly into the phone goes immediately to AC charging.
