[Q] Location of camera.apk - RAZR HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just got the Razr HD --- like what I see and feel.
I have root access and I have the paid version of Root Explorer.
Can someone tell me where camera.apk is on this phone and any other apk's related to it, specifically if there is one for video.
Many thanks!!

Does anyone know how to install 4.2 camera on HD?

Hello all,
Does anyone know how to successfully install the 4.2 camera APK on the HD? This camera is AWFUL and am hopeful that the 4.2 software has some sort of a fix. Let me know. Tempted to sell this thing because of the camera.
Thanks!

I think this is a different one but worked for me. Works without build.prop changes as well. Just copy files to system/lib and system/app respectively. Rw-r-r permissions on apk. Enjoy

I can't find the /system/ folder... I've tried with the phone on normally, recovery and AP fastboot. I don't have any folders hidden. Ideas?
***EDIT: Disregard. I lost root access.***** Sigh
Worked like a charm I like the camera a lot and picasa sync works in gallery .
Can anyone explain how to install this. I know that the files need to be moved into system/apps and the permissions need to be changed but the download is a zip file. Can this be flashed through stock recovery or is there a different way? I unzipped the packed but don't see the camera apk.
-Take the android 4.2 camera .zip and download from here.
-flash via cwm

In GPE ROM thread I posted this flashable zip
https://www.dropbox.com/s/xu0gyhi3v013i2c/MOTO_Cam_and_gallery.zip
This will copy Camera and Gallery apks with odex files to priv-app where are in Moto G from Motorola
I did not get any feedback if it works or not...
Make backup before flash...
If it will not work, you can try to extract both apk files from zip and place them into system/app folder, and change permissions to rw- r-- r--
If there will be any problems I can post also lib files from my Moto G...
Try it please

He misses FM too much!! LOL
Or maybe its the optimisations by Moto ..the ones they talked about in launch and how moto g outperforms a s4 in multiple basic things
They just transferred a Lot of expensive R & D done for moto x to the lill Moto G...and its a good thing so far

Mainly it's just the camera but i also don't like using Hangouts for messaging.
I know i can install the normal one from the Play Store but it doesn't get themed correctly whenever i apply custom themes.
If someone did get the motorola camera working with it then i would probably switch.
I've said to hell with it, and decided to test out CM11 on the Moto G, if i'm not happy with it, then i'll move to the GPE ROM

Here you go brotha. It's in system/app. I included the odex file in case you need that as well.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/kwc6llgn6krphbf/camera.zip
The apks are zipped up. So unzipp it. And then do what you need.
Not sure how much information you need. These won't just install. They have to be copied to /system/app and then the permissions need to match the rest of files in the folder.
You'll need to be rooted blah blah blah. Just let me know if you need more info.
thanks

If this is the HTC One M8 stock camera can I install it on my HTC One M8 Google Play Edition? If not does anyone know if I can and in that case point me to how? Googling that lead me here so I have tried googling it a bit (most results turn up stuff about stock android camera or the google camera)

The HTC Camera isn't compatible with the GPe. GPe lacks the Sense framework which the HTC stock apps rely on. They ported some of the apps (Weather for DotView, DotView, etc) but most wont work. I wish it did, because HTC camera is 100x better than the Google one.

Thanks for letting us know !!! That blows. I guess I'll just keep my phone the way it is then. I'm not a selfie addict or anything but the only reason why I havent installed GPe on my M8 is the camera. The interface is awesome and super responsive. The google camera just sucks... really bad. I guess I'll stick to Sense based ROM with kitkat launcher installed.

You don't install system apps. Set the permissions of the apks to match the rest of the permissions in the folder and reboot. You should be good to go.
You can change the permissions with Root Explorer. Maybe other file browsing apps.

I'm using the best ROM ever! RKDN_ROM_AVL-LOLLIPOP-V2
I unzipped the camera.zip, moved the camera apk file to the system/priv-app and overwritten the apk that was already in that directory. Didn't have to reboot the phone, it just worked instantly after the file replacement.

It was somehow missing from my system/app. I downloaded Eclipse build version 5 from elementalxdesigns.com extracted the AvatarPermissionsApp.apk (thank fully it wasn't debloated out) placed into system/app and change permissions to rw-r-r. I chose Eclipse ROM cause it was stock and easily accessible and I didn't really want to ask on here and wait to see if someone would post for me. I still have no idea what the app does.

I believe AvatarPermissionsApp.apk grants the Motorola spotlight player funky privileges so it can draw a full screen overlay etc.

[APP] Razr M Camera

Basically the only complaint I've ever read remotely negative about the Moto X is the camera. I'm not sure if it's the stock camera app or the actual hardware that makes our camera a bit lackluster. I do remember really enjoying the stock Moto camera I had with my Razr M (ICS). I successfully backed it up and installed it onto my X. I will be using it for a bit to see if I can get some of the same quality photos I liked on the M. Figured I'd share the APK in case anybody else wanted to try this too. You may want to backup your stock Moto Camera app first. Enjoy!

Everybody's app preferences are different too. It may feel a little dated, but I remember trying out something like 6 camera apps.. At great length.. And this one always took the best HDR quality images on the M. Not sure how it'll do with the X but I'll be using it for a while to see.

Quick note, I specifically prefer the HDR mode on this cam above any other HDR I've personally used on an Android. So be sure to check that out. I feel like the color and shading is better than others.

What I originally did was back it up with Titanium on the M. Then I restored it in the X. When I installed it in the X I was able to back it up as an APK through Astro. For some reason the M wouldn't allow me to back it up as an APK. as for that circles widget.. I loved it.. Would love to see it evolve if possible. Very cool widget.

Jersey, my problem with downloading files like that is explained in the pic attached, immediately when I clicked download your file from the page you linked, not one but two files downloaded at the same time, your cam apk file along with a setup.exe file. I circled in red the two files shown at the bottom right corner and also the properties from my downloaded folder. and along with that I pasted the screenshot from my razr M root system app folder of the razr m cam apk on my razr M, it's not even the same size file as your cam apk.. that puzzles me.. now it could be because I am running a different version of the cam you were running on your razr M... or it could mean yours has been modified. And not even sure what the setup.exe file that was downloaded with your file is.. they both were deleted from my pc right after I took these screens.

The file name should be the same. I'm not familiar with SendSpace. Was just looking for a free place to upload the file. Should have uploaded it to Drive in the first place. There was no setup.exe file so I don't have any idea what that is. Just the one apk for the camera was all I uploaded. I won't be using SendSpace again.

My backup was done through Astro File Manager so maybe that's where the naming came from. I have no idea. I did have a few different versions of the camera saved at one time but lost my Titanium Backups a while back so this is all I have left. I tried finding a version number but not sure how to find it. I could take a screenshot if that'd help.
