Does anyone know how to install 4.2 camera on HD? - RAZR HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello all,
Does anyone know how to successfully install the 4.2 camera APK on the HD? This camera is AWFUL and am hopeful that the 4.2 software has some sort of a fix. Let me know. Tempted to sell this thing because of the camera.
Thanks!

I think this is a different one but worked for me. Works without build.prop changes as well. Just copy files to system/lib and system/app respectively. Rw-r-r permissions on apk. Enjoy

I can't find the /system/ folder... I've tried with the phone on normally, recovery and AP fastboot. I don't have any folders hidden. Ideas?
***EDIT: Disregard. I lost root access.***** Sigh

Worked like a charm I like the camera a lot and picasa sync works in gallery .

Can anyone explain how to install this. I know that the files need to be moved into system/apps and the permissions need to be changed but the download is a zip file. Can this be flashed through stock recovery or is there a different way? I unzipped the packed but don't see the camera apk.

-Take the android 4.2 camera .zip and download from here.
-flash via cwm
-reboot

Android 4.2 apps working with RR v1 JB (XXLS2)

Android 4.2 apps have started flowing in. Many are worth giving a try. Few assorted which I tried and working fine on RR V1 JB by eybee1970. Thanks to him for this great rom.
I will keep on updating this list as apps come in.
1. Android 4.2 Keyboard With Gesture Typing -- thanks to mrmako777 for sharing.
2. JB4.2 Camera - Patched (photosphere working) (Video recording gives FC)
3. Gmail 4.2 leaked (Swipe to Delete and Pinch Zoom) -- Thanks to mrmako777 for sharing (for apk, google is friend)
4. DeskClock apk -- Thanks to asdfzz for sharing
5. Android 4.2 Launcher APK -- thanks to TheDarkDefender for sharing
Thanks to deveshmanish for sharing following apps here
6.Google Earth
7.Email(not gmail)
8.Play Store
9.Voice Search for Play Store
10.Quick office v5.7.2
11.Play music
12.Play Magzine
13.Play books
and finally for CM10 and other AOSP/AOKP ROMS a chunk of 150+mb
14. All Google apps thanks to Garner for sharing it here
How to install
1. in case you have patience, and got hold of CWM flashable zip then you know how to flash
2. in case you are lazy like me or dont want to reboot and have root file explorer, just push the files to appropriate folder (if you cant figure out folders then better stay away, it can be hazardous also), change permissions and owner. (Yeh.. some time still i need to reboot, so much of pain to fingers )
How i push apks and libs to system (if 5 or less files, otherwise i prefer CWMflash method):
1. using root explorer extract needed file
2.move extracted files to /system
3. Go to /system, select individual file, long press and select permissions menu
4. change permissions to rw-r--r-- i.e. all rows in "read" column, "owner" row in "write" column and none in "execute" column, once permissions selected press ok
5. select same file, long press and select change owner from displayed menu. change owner and group as "root"
6. once all files are changed for permissions and owner, move them to appropriate /system/lib or /system/app folder. You should move libs first to /system/lib
7. if there more files then i prefer to use CWMflash method. attaching template that can come handy. you have to unzip template, place apks and libs in appropriate folders and zip it again them so that "system" folder is in root of zip file structure.
Edit: 02Nov- link to Camera/Gallery modified for patched file
Edit: 03Nov- link to Deskclock.apk and launcher added
Edit: 04Nov- link to few more
Edit: 05Nov- Link to complete GApps:good:
In case there is any release that i have missed, let me know. i can add it to list as one place to refer for G Note community.

You may have to try it out. I like RR v1 so much, don't want shift just to try new app
Its not that very tough. If you have file explorer with root browser, you may just push the files to appropriate folders and change permissions and owner. If required reboot
Hope that helps.

These have all worked really well for me, but since changing the device to nexus so the camera works, i can't seem to enter the play store.

You don't have to remove stock camera to installing this. I have both working in device. In case you removed it with purpose you can always pull it from ROM zip and push it to device.
Hope that helps.

There's a patched camera apk on the miui forum that doesn't need an altered build.prop for the photospheres to work.
To get the viewer to work you need the updated GMs.apk

Hi guys, I flashed the patched v2 zip, running Rocket JB V1, and checked with root explorer that permissions was still only r--r- with something called sticky. Changed it to code 644 rw-r--r on lib files and apks. Camera works fine, but at the end of rendering panorama it still FCs. Video recorder also seems to be freezing up after a few seconds of recording. Any ideas?
Thanks!
UPDATE
Changed system language to US English, and sphere is working fine now. Video camera seems to be working ok if you don't try to touch focus.
i flashed they keyboard and its awesome then i flashed the camera app and did fix permissions but now the gallery app opens and says 0 images or videos and it fcs in like 5 sec ,, i checked my root DCIM folder for the images ,, all of them are there now plz help me what should i do to get my gallery app back but plz i dont wanna to full wipe !!!

In GPE ROM thread I posted this flashable zip
https://www.dropbox.com/s/xu0gyhi3v013i2c/MOTO_Cam_and_gallery.zip
This will copy Camera and Gallery apks with odex files to priv-app where are in Moto G from Motorola
I did not get any feedback if it works or not...
Make backup before flash...
If it will not work, you can try to extract both apk files from zip and place them into system/app folder, and change permissions to rw- r-- r--
If there will be any problems I can post also lib files from my Moto G...
Try it please

They just transferred a Lot of expensive R & D done for moto x to the lill Moto G...and its a good thing so far

Mainly it's just the camera but i also don't like using Hangouts for messaging.
I know i can install the normal one from the Play Store but it doesn't get themed correctly whenever i apply custom themes.
If someone did get the motorola camera working with it then i would probably switch.

The apks are zipped up. So unzipp it. And then do what you need.
Not sure how much information you need. These won't just install. They have to be copied to /system/app and then the permissions need to match the rest of files in the folder.
You'll need to be rooted blah blah blah. Just let me know if you need more info.

The HTC Camera isn't compatible with the GPe. GPe lacks the Sense framework which the HTC stock apps rely on. They ported some of the apps (Weather for DotView, DotView, etc) but most wont work. I wish it did, because HTC camera is 100x better than the Google one.

Thanks for letting us know !!! That blows. I guess I'll just keep my phone the way it is then. I'm not a selfie addict or anything but the only reason why I havent installed GPe on my M8 is the camera. The interface is awesome and super responsive. The google camera just sucks... really bad. I guess I'll stick to Sense based ROM with kitkat launcher installed.

You don't install system apps. Set the permissions of the apks to match the rest of the permissions in the folder and reboot. You should be good to go.
You can change the permissions with Root Explorer. Maybe other file browsing apps.

[APP] Razr M Camera

Basically the only complaint I've ever read remotely negative about the Moto X is the camera. I'm not sure if it's the stock camera app or the actual hardware that makes our camera a bit lackluster. I do remember really enjoying the stock Moto camera I had with my Razr M (ICS). I successfully backed it up and installed it onto my X. I will be using it for a bit to see if I can get some of the same quality photos I liked on the M. Figured I'd share the APK in case anybody else wanted to try this too. You may want to backup your stock Moto Camera app first. Enjoy!

Everybody's app preferences are different too. It may feel a little dated, but I remember trying out something like 6 camera apps.. At great length.. And this one always took the best HDR quality images on the M. Not sure how it'll do with the X but I'll be using it for a while to see.

Quick note, I specifically prefer the HDR mode on this cam above any other HDR I've personally used on an Android. So be sure to check that out. I feel like the color and shading is better than others.

Jersey, my problem with downloading files like that is explained in the pic attached, immediately when I clicked download your file from the page you linked, not one but two files downloaded at the same time, your cam apk file along with a setup.exe file. I circled in red the two files shown at the bottom right corner and also the properties from my downloaded folder. and along with that I pasted the screenshot from my razr M root system app folder of the razr m cam apk on my razr M, it's not even the same size file as your cam apk.. that puzzles me.. now it could be because I am running a different version of the cam you were running on your razr M... or it could mean yours has been modified. And not even sure what the setup.exe file that was downloaded with your file is.. they both were deleted from my pc right after I took these screens.

The file name should be the same. I'm not familiar with SendSpace. Was just looking for a free place to upload the file. Should have uploaded it to Drive in the first place. My backup was done through Astro File Manager so maybe that's where the naming came from. I have no idea. I did have a few different versions of the camera saved at one time but lost my Titanium Backups a while back so this is all I have left. I tried finding a version number but not sure how to find it. I could take a screenshot if that'd help.

you click on apps and check the app the camera app and it should tell you I'm on 4.1.2- 76 that's cause I'm running Android 4.1 .2 never upgraded to 4.4 because I didn't want to lose the ability to wifi tether
