So i'm hoping that someone with more technical experience can answer this for me. When you do a dirty flash (specifically OTA updates for the sake of this discussion) what is the technical reason for broken sensors? Like GPS or bluetooth not working, poor wifi etc... I'm assuming that it's some settings file somewhere, any further details or knowledge (or am I completely wrong) would be awesome!
I don't have any particular problem currently, just a question i've wanted answered for a while now.

Aparently there is a misunderstanding as to what is a bug and what is not.
Please do not state there is a bug directly, ask if anyone else is experiencing the same issue. If more people are then we can call it a bug, if not, then it has to be something you are doing.
These phones are just like computers, You can have 2 very identical units, but the way a person uses it will effect the way the device works. Alot of times, bugs reside in what the user does and not with the applications themselves.
I too have found interesting settings in a program that I had been using for awhile and thought, oh that sounds cool, let me check that.
This changes the whole experience.
So please, for the sake of developement and troubleshooting, When posting a possible bug, please include any registry modifications and what applications you have installed. Also, post any settings and version numbers for the applications you are having issues with. This helps the people trying to help you out with troubleshooting and locating these so called bugs.
Thank you for your time.
Hi there, the question in topic is self describing. I need to dump entire communication going through those channels. Because I'm not entirely sure about how this works I'm asking here for a direction or solution either way I'm asking for help. From what I understand there's RIL which is still on much higher level than directly accessing those channels. So do I have to dive in kernel? If so - where to look. Will it be driver or what? Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks!
Shameless self bump.
Hi all,
This thread pertains to the inbuilt Internet Calling feature on Gingerbread. By default, it uses g.711 but I use an audio broadcast unit which requires g.722.
Is anyone able to help me, with finding out where the prefs are for the default SIP client, and how to enable g.722 as Mon codec de preference?
Many thanks
Perhaps I should post this in Dev...
Well, according to the rules, I'm not allowed to post a development based question in the dev forum. Apparently "If it's not about a ROM, it's not allowed in the development area" - perhaps the 'Dev' area should be renamed 'ROMs', and a separate Development Area should be opened?! That way, serious questions won't get overlooked and moved down so quick with the masses of repeated questions from new members.
Anyway - thats my rant...
Here's my actual question - reposted:
Hi folks
OK, this isn't ROM related as such, but it is definitely development related, hence posting here. I'm not a programmer, but I know my way around config files etc. usually. What I'm trying to find out, is this:
Can I adjust the 'built-in' VoIP Client to use a different codec? There's no options available in software, but the config for the client must be somewhere - question is, WHERE would it be? If anyone can point me in the right direction, I'll report my findings
There's a few VoIP things I want to customise, but using the native client, rather than a third party app.
I'm not after a spoon-fed solution - just the clues where to look so I can sort it out.
Many thanks
Just unzip any ROM and look inside,
That would spare you own phone and you can check every single file.
Btw, apk are zip files as well...
I've had a look around, but still haven't found the right things.
I guess the 'Internet Calling' function is part of the main 'phone' app, but I can't find any settings or config files for this.
It should be such a simple change to make; but I'm stuck at the first hurdle!!
If you're experiencing WiFi drop problems, may I suggest you have a look at application: "FXR WiFi fix and rescue", available on Play Store and free, no root required btw. It solved my problem at least.
Hi there,
as a new user on XDA-Developers I am not allowed to post in the development forums (yet)! Grrrr!
Anyway I would like to share interesting discovery about an application that has been able to fix (for me at least) the WiFi problem that's quite extensively discussed on the "Galaxy S Plus I9001 Android Development" thread, started by all-glorious-and-deserving BroodROM author: Broodplank1337.
As many users on that thread I've been experiencing the problem about WiFi connection lasting a few seconds to a few minutes, and then dropping. The only cure to this problem was to deactivate WiFi, then reactivate it. I sometimes had to retry up to 2-3 times for the WiFi connection to work again, but only for a few dozens of seconds / few minutes.
-> the application that fixed my problem is "FXR WiFi fix and rescue". I tried a few other but only that one solved the problem for me. I was surprised that it didn't even request root access rights...
On the aforementioned forum I could find several other fixes made by Broodplank and others, involving reflashing of Kernel and/or modem firmware. I didn't want to start flashing the Kernel again on the cellphone as some users had reported failure and I didn't want to risk bricking the phone.
Hope this info is useful and gets found by some people (I wished I could post it as a reply to the aforementioned thread, would have allowed a more concise answer, grrrr).
Hey,
Thank you very much for pointing out this app, If it really helps I will definitely add it to RC5. of course I'm very curious what the app does since it doesn't even need root access.
Tested the app and It seems to really fix the reception! I have 2 bars now on the 2nd floor and normally i would have 0 bars! (so it keeps disconnecting all the time)
Thank you very much!
Great!
Great!
You know what, if it was 8 years ago I would be like you, releasing custom ROMs etc or doing similar stuff. However in the meantime came wife and children... I don't have no time at all for hacking at home anymore!
On the professional side I'm doing similar job, only that it's not on smartphones (it's in digital TV market). I have good embedded Linux experience including bootloader stuff etc, but rather poor Android-specific knowledge (at the moment).
So there you have it: your devoted new user cyclistefou is an experienced professional embedded Linux hacker, thankful and admirative for your efforts on broodrom, wishing to help and certainly able to regarding knowledge, but having almost NO time at all. Today I'm doing a special effort to contact you as you deserve it with so much work in BroodROM.
-> in summary, please remember me, as a guy who has no time in general but still wishing to support and help... when I get post access to dev forums it will be easier for me to post useful info when I have it...
Thanks for your efforts. Too bad the SGS+ device HW is good but IMHO the SW is terrible. If there was not BroodROM I would be back to my trusty HTC Desire in no time!
Wifi disconnection issue solution.!!
i khow this problem. Thats the bug in the new firmware. But there is a solution. In your wifi router there is lan setting option where ull find Lease Time. Set it to two weeks. Lease was set to "forever" actually, I changed it to one day, rebooted both and now it seems to work fine, I've tried downloading bigger files and playing some games online, it didn't drop at all! I twill not disconnect again.
Thanks for your answers, hopefully it'll stay like this...
hi all!
please note: i am nothing near a professional user or even coder! i rooted my phone and i install custom roms on it, and thats about it. in addition to that i am concerned about my privacy. for me it started with the LBE Privacy Guard from the play store, it was quite nice until it stopped working, and made my phone stuck in a boot loop...
i have read and searched a lot of stuff before i decided to write this. but i havent found an easy and understandable how to. maybe that is because there no easy way to this. please go easy on me if there is already a thread for this...
i just installed openpdroid on my samsung galaxy s+ (i9001) and that is just because user bululu has made a patch for the rom i am using (cm10.1 from user davidteri) - thanks to both of them! i installed the patch with cwm (clockworkmod) and afterwards i was wondering there is no privacy setting in my menu or anything that would let me set up permissions. but from all the stuff i was reading before i figured i will need some kind of gui (not sure this is the right word - that goes for most of the stuff, but please correct me where u can, i will try and learn) so i installed 'pdroid manager' from the play store. that would finally let me set permissions for the apps! so far, so good. i am now using openpdroid...
should be all good at this point u might think, but this is where my questions begin ^^ f.ex:
is this the best solution atm? are there more solutions? what are the differences? what can u recommend?
furthermore i try to figure out how to encrypt email on android. most things i read point to k9 mail and using agp (or apg? is this the same?). i did some research on that topic an it seems to be the 'android privacy guard'. more questions here too...
it seems to be out of development, since the last changes are from 25.12.2010. is there a newer alternative for that or something i missed? or maybe it is still the thing to use or it is quite finished in its current state?!? but i dont wanna clog my device with old or unsupported software until i am 99% sure on what to do...
so basically i am asking if there is a nice and user friendly (with images) 'how to' for this kind of stuff i was just missing or is it just impossible (at the current state) to do such thing? if both answers are 'no' i'd like to start something like that, of course with your help that is...
because it seems the info i found is not coherent, its all bits and pieces one needs to bring together (in the right order and with compatible software). at least thats what it feels like for me as non-professional user and linux noob. i have no problem with puzzling stuff together but i also would like to help others who would like to do increase their security and get different opinions on whats the best way to do some things...
so if any of u got an opinion to any of the above please let me know! and help or links would be greatly appreciated! lets see if we can bring some things together and make our devices, our communication and our data more secure! and please note: this should not be device specific, my device and rom was just for information and for better understanding my starting point. this should be as broadly defined and open minded as possible. so everybody could partake and make use of it...
thanks for reading!
kind regards
