Hi everyone,
Have you people ever by accident slipped your android phone on the floor or anywhere and get it damaged? And did you ever bother to get it repaired?
Well, I droped my galaxy ace a million times and nothing happened!!, lol
Just give us your comments and let us know!
Just curious to hear from you people!
No.

Does it count if the phone is in its case, inside my bag, which is on the passenger seat, and i have to slam on the brakes cos some idiot can't drive, and my bag hits the car floor, with phone etc inside it...........then on those occaisions yes
I have already dropped my Moto Razr Maxx many times and it has always survived the fall, although no drops higher than 1-2 m height.
Sadly, yes. Good thing it was in a protective case, which has scuff marks now.
yes drop the phone on concrete while getting out of car..... chipped corners . screen still safe lucky
I've dropped my S3 once or twice, but I've always had a case and there was no damage.
I usually bring my phone when I sleep to hear music with ear phone..

Since that I never listening music again when sleep..
Have droped my tab 2 twice... !!
First time it hit the ground flat on the back...
Second time with the bottom left corner taking the jerk... !

Dropped my One X into a puddle of water under my car. When I went down to pick it up I accidentally kicked snow on top of it. Took me a while to find it because it wad dark and I could only use my hand to feel for it.
To my surprise there was nothing wrong with it when I got it into the house.

Remember!! You should always switch off the phone and let it dry for a few days( since you cannot remove the battery from one x) as water could
damage all the chips inside... maybe you were lucky once.
I dropped my LG optimus 2x multiple times, sometimes even without a case... Not even a nick or scratch.
Dropped my nexus 4 once so far with a bumper and just my luck the top right chrome trim is nicked and there is about 10px of bleeding in the upper right of the screen.
Thank the nexus gods its still very usable though, sometimes I don't even notice the damage as long as the screen isn't showing white.

Today, I dropped my one s...as it fell towards the pavement, i thought it was done, but without even thinking...like it was a primal reaction, I then kicked it (softly) at the last moment, which changed the direction towards the grass, where it softly landed unharmed.

I always drop my HTC Desire HD. It's like holding a soap
But I always make it land on my foot
I dropped my Motorola Atrix three times.
The first time, it dinged all 4 corners of the case - pretty weird, but it worked fine.
The second time, wifi and bluetooth stopped working - and never came back.
The third time, a 1" tall strip across the screen stopped working - just across where the SIM unlock PIN pad showed up! So I couldn't get into my phone anymore.
I ended up changing the PIN over adb to use only keys I could still reach... but that was a nightmare. RIP

dropped mine twice last night at work. heart stopped both times as I had only had the phone a few hours. However my hearts still beating not a single scratch/scuff on the phone, no battery fell out, not back cover come off. So maybe these poorly built plastic phones are not too bad afternall
Oh and dropped from my office desk onto a carpet floor, in case anyone wanted to know.
Nope. I'm super clumsy so I try to make sure that I keep my phone away from any dangerous things, such as the edge of my desk...

dropped it from my ear, while on the phone. I am 6ft...
was outside in the driveway, luckily i am coordinated and was able to stall it on my foot (thanks to jr high hacky sack) no harm done...
ohh yea, my heart did stop
I dropped mine the other night. Was in my hip case and went to pick up my daughter, she kicked it off me. Small scuff on the back battery cover almost got the phone frame but nope.. close call.

I dropped(more like pulled, my work chair got caught in the USB charging cable and it fell from my desk) my phone twice on launch day. No damage, no scratches, nada, nothing zippo. I was pleasantly surprised after reading all the QQ about the plastic casing.
Slim & Light > Fat and Heavy, imo!
A friend of mine dropped his from his desk, it got a few scratches but nothing too horrid. Butmy friend being a freak that he is went to bestbuy and complained that the scratches where on their when he received his phone so they exchanged his NS for a new one lol
3 drops here...all from table/desk height to the wood floor. All did face plants of the screen to the deck. Not a scratch.
It's amazing this thing still works..... These htc phones are built like tanks. Well everyone makes a lemon once in a while ... I mean ive dropped this thing 30 times atleast since ive owned it . ATLEAST as i said from no less than 3 ft and it works perfect.
Maybe it's the rom? I am running bulletproof xD
I've had mine since August 6th of last year - in all that time and being in the legitimate top % of time actively being used, i've dropped it exactly 1 time, and that was because a bucket fell off of a scaffold onto me.
It was in the trident case when it happened, and it's okay - that ate the force of the fall.
You sound like you need to put it on a lighter leash man, or something like that
You need at minimum a trident case, and you should probably get some kind of padded pouch to keep it in. (well, that's what I do, and most don't - but it might be worth you looking into)
I lol'd at the bulletproof comment. Glad it's serving you well ( the phone, and the ROM)
I drop mine more than [your provider's name] drops calls in rural Ethiopia. I mean the thing is like it's slippery as Hell, but every time, it hits the ground, the back comes off flying, the battery slips out, the keyboard slings open. I was just as bad with my old G1 and it worked for 3 years. Then one more drop to the asphalt and the radio lost about half its signal in all bands. Couldn't keep calls or data for more than a few seconds at a time. Anyway, I have been impressed by HTC for the two phones I've had.
On an aside, my father in law has a G1 still. Bronze. Got it the same day I got mine. Mine looks like R. Lee Ermey (or maybe Gary Bussey on a good day); his still looks like a very young George Clooney.
I don't know what it is, but I think it's the fact I'm always trying not to smudge the screen so I pick it up by the edges like a CD. Come to think of it, I drop CDs a lot too.
OMG, I dropped my phone today
Sitting in lecture, slipped right out of my pocket and hit the rough plaster floor behind the chair. Battery cover came off and battery was out.
The first time I have dropped a phone in nearly two years
God is crying today
Bottom corner of steel rim has a small scuff now about the size of a pencil eraser :'(
Man, if you all seen my phone, you would swear I bought it at the scratch and dent special.
At least twice a week I leave it on my lap and hop out the car and there goes my phone, the outer green edge on my camera lens is chipped to hell and back, all 4 corners are destroyed now to the 3 falls it took just today and this thing still runs like it came from the box yesterday.

I know there are a lot of threads regarding dropped phones, bricked ones, soaked ones, scratched ones, etc. And I'm going to add another one... (feel free to close)
This thread is to talk about any accidents you've had with your phones, good and bad outcomes alike.
I rarely drop my phones but today I left my phone on the kitchen counter (like 4ft high) and I reached to get my phone and it fell face first onto my tile, bounced up, hit the corner, hit another corner, fell facedown again and slid two feet...
I had a cheapo rock tpu case and I'm glad to report that it probably saved my phone! not a scratch or dent anywhere!
Well...
A couple of weeks ago I accidentally stuck my keys in the same pocket as my phone. Luckily, the phone didn't get a single scratch from the incident. There is a long thread about it somewhere on this forum.
Today, however, when I went to clean my phone I noticed a really, really tiny scratch on the screen. I cleaned it yesterday too and it wasn't there. This means it came about for no good reason except that last night was Friday the 13th methinks. Anyway, the scratch is super tiny, and you can only see it when the phone is off and you use the screen as a mirror to see the sun or some other light source. I think a wet-application screen protector will get rid of it.
I haven't dropped it yet though! *knock on wood*
I was going to drive to Walmart and just i had to shut my car's door..my HOX accidentally slipped on my pant's pocket landing
exactly to the edge of the floor where the car's door would meet...and..I just **** pulled the door to closed..bam..bam..my beloved HOx
just got sandwich between the edges..luckily the door did not shut closed completely as my Hox was there to stoped it:crying:
well what do you know..may Hox survived ..but got a tiny bit of scratch only visible when you tilt the phone and turn the display off.
Painted my sis in laws house this weekend. Had my phone on the mantle of the fireplace where I was painting above. Rollers spray paint all over the place. . . phone has little speckles all over the screen. Not to mention I went too far down and hit my phone with the roller on the right side of the screen. . . can see 2/3 of the screen right now.
Luckily it is latex paint so hopefully I can just scrape it off without scratching the screen. . .

I had bought my One X on May 10th and on the 14th I went swimming and forgot that it was in my pocket. I was...distracted by the scenery I went into panic mode when I started thinking if I had taken it out or not, and then I felt it in my pocket. Tried putting it in rice and all that, but it was submerged for to long. Luckily my warranty replacement hasn't had to many problems, and the problems I did have was fixed with CleanROM.

Everyone share your stories for close calls relating to the potential destruction of your phone. I'll begin.
Today I was on the second story of my home with my phone on the windowsill. There's a highway about 300 yards from this window, and from it I can hear the gentle ambiance of passing motorists. My phone was resting on the windowsill as I heard loud screeching followed by a thunderous crash. I opened my window to see the extent of the damage and my phone fell two stories to the ground below. Luckily it fell right onto a patch of grass, missing concrete by less than 2 feet. The feeling of dread quickly turned to relief as I picked up my face up non damaged phone.
Lets hear your horror stories!
2 stories fall with no damage? Even with grass that's a big fall. Consider yourself very lucky!

Thats why I felt inspired to post! Everywhere I look I see cracked screens, and I consider myself supernaturally lucky to never have damaged a phone from a fall (although one of my old clamshell's hinge broke once while opening it oddly enough). I want to hear about others who spat in the face of physics and got lucky.

Oddly enough I just switched from one of those bulky otterbox type protectors to a flimsy $2 rubber skin a week or so ago to conserve pocket space. I was mostly mad at myself, I usually handle my phone more carefully than a mother handles a newborn. I did drop my old droid 2 a couple times but never had more than a scratched screen protector.
Third day I had my GSIII I had it plugged into my home theater with an aux cord, listening to music. Was sitting on a shelf about 6 feet up, landscape mode, propped against a CD book. Don't know if the vibration from music shook it loose, but I turned my back and then heard a nice solid SMACK on my concrete floor. Phone slid off the shelf and landed face down...Not a scratch or crack on it. I was amazed.

I am so afraid to even have a close call...The S3 seems so fragile. I wish I could use it neked.
well in theory all cell phones are just as fragile. For the most part they all have the same delicate hardware inside that isn't meant to absord shock. Some of them may have a sturdier exterior than others but they're ruggedness may be in our head.

So my burning question: why on earth was your phone on a windowsill when the window was open? Were you asking for trouble? Death wish, perhaps?
The first day I had my GS III, I had it plugged in, in the kitchen, my dog came running through the house, and snagged the charger and sent the phone and charger flying, luckily the only thing that broke was the charger.

Done that a few times.
My favorite close call though has to be when I was standing next to a pool messing with my phone and it slipped out of my hands. It was over the water and out of instinct (no idea why this was my instinct) kicked the phone. The phone flew across the pool (10-15 ft) and a friend who was on the other side caught it. The case had come off the corner slightly but phone was working perfectly.

Hi all
I had my Nexus 5 since launch day, but in the last few months I have noticed two rather large areas of the middle of the screen are always oily or "smudged".
If I clean the screen by carefully applying sellotape and then lifting, all oil and smudges are removed, but even after cleaning my hands and using the screen lightly in the same two areas there is always a permanent smudge, and in those areas it feels different, as if the coating is removed.
I have not used any screen protectors or cleaners and I take great care of my Nexus.
It is annoying with the glare.
I haven't had a phone do this before..
I'm going to pop it back to the shop perhaps I just got a unlucky one, but I am wondering about buying a screen protector if this is an issue with the phone..
Anyone else experienced this?
Cheers

Well, I wouldn't say I'm as heavy a user as most on here!! I use it for about half an hour to an hour a day on average. My last phone never did this after 2 and a bit years of heavier usage and I wouldn't call it acceptable for the use I have done. Pretty poor if this is normal for nexus devices, although I couldn't find anything on this relating to the Nexus 5 (only 4, and that wasn't much) in my quick searches online.
I think there must have been a defect in mine which has just got worse over time as I treat this like my baby!
Here is a pic, you see the horizontal lines, almost like a "Z" shape, it appears this is where the coating has come off.

Test it add a single drop of water on the phone and move the water around by tilting the screen if the coating is still in that area it water should float and move easily without trace over the ear piece with tape for precaution do not submerge the screen or phone

There's no point. All phones with this oleophobic coating have this "problem".
2 ways to verify for certain if the oleophobic coating is gone. First, you can put a few drops of cooking oil on the screen, and try to smear it. If the coating is still there, the oil beads up instead of smearing. See here
Second, if you dare, write on the screen with a sharpie/permanent marker. If there's coating, the ink will bead up and can easily be wiped away. If not, ink will dry and can't be wiped unless you use alcohol.
I use an oleophobic screen protector like the one in the video.
I'm suffering with this problem too and I got my Nexus 5 in November. My galaxy s2 lasted 3 years with its coating and still to this day hasn't given me a spot like that.

Yeah screen protector is a different surface but once you remove it the issue is still there on the glass.

Oleophobic coatings do come off over time and with use. I never have this problem as I personally can't use a screen without a protector. Like to keep my things in pristine condition. A good glass screen protector will help you forget about your problem though.
I had his issue with my Nexus 4 after only 3 months of use, bought a screen protector to protect what coating I had left. I don't think it's down to a bad screen etc just the texture of some people's hands and the way they use it is different, my coating wore off top left right at the notification but, I'd obviously been consistently putting pressure there.

Mine wore down and I replenished it with this http://www.ebay.com/itm/Fusso-Smart...t=US_Cell_Phone_PDA_Cases&hash=item27de7c859e
Well it's a very poor quality screen if it does this that quickly. My old HTC Desire Z lasted years with no problem and the same use. Maybe I did just get unlucky it seems a few others have the same problem...
I had it replaced by carphone warehouse but their service was useless and it took almost a month to get it changed, the first screen they replaced was covered in scratches all over!! What a disgrace, so now it has had to be opened up twice - never great for a phone and especially such an expensive and new one.
I am now using an Anker glass screen cover which feels a bit better than the standard glass, has all the coatings, is the same hardness if not harder and comes with a warranty + if they screen goes I can just replace it for around £12 without having to send it off for someone to mess up and be without my phone.
I didn't want to use a screen protector but this Anker glass one is crystal clear and does not affect anything, and I'm very fussy.
Had this happen on my S2. I got a Zagg HD screen protector at Best Buy (because they will install it and if it's not perfect they'll open another one and redo it; plus I'm clumsy and attract dust in mid-application) and it worked great for 2 years and counting. I've been itching to go get one on this phone too but keep putting it off. This thread reminded me off what I have to look forward to if I don't.
I found that using a stylus seems to hasten the erosion of the layer, at least when comparing my S2 to my wife's as well as our tablets.

Having the same issue here.
Has anyone tried to see if Google will fix it under warranty?
I should hope they would fix it under warranty! Send it back. It's a disgrace for it to happen in such a short time period.
So I finally got around to calling and I was told there wasn't much they can do about it because the phone is still fully functional even with the coating wearing off. I was told to buy a screen protector...
I'm not sure how I feel about this.
