[IDEA] [IN DEVELOPMENT] Easy Root (wasnt sure where to put it) - General Topics

So, I recently rooted my kindle fire, yay!
But, as a computer programmer I was thinking... could there be an easier way?
So I thought of this, what if I were to make a really nice GUI that is just a few simple button clicks to root something? I mean, how many of you would use it?
It would work something like this:
You select your device OS and its driver from a list your given.
You can select from some premade roots, like Basic Root (basic, no ROMs, no recovery), Medium Root (recovery program, no ROM's pre-installed) , Great Root (choose your own ROM's [from the XDA site!!], recovery program, superuser, etc.) or Custom Root (choose what you install, incase you want one of everything).
Then, it fetches your requested ROM's, and roots your device. No ugly console, simple fast and easy.
Also, it would eliminate human error. It would do the correct procedure every time, the first time. No more complaints, and great for the noobs!!
So, would YOU use it?!?!?

you should have a talk with Chainfire and Doomlord.
SuperOneClick is easy to use. you just have to press 1 button and its done but i guess it does not work for all devices.

kinda no. you could set up a public poll for preferred roms. the program/app will simply fetch it for you from the download link of a limited number of top roms.
@OP what exactly do you have in mind? A program for PC or a app on phone?

First off, THANK YOU ALL FOR POSTING HERE!!!
Second off, question time
It would be both PC and on the device. For the device version, you would select your device upon downloading, not in app. On the PC version, it would be all inclusive.
Both of them would download only ROM's that the developers (me and friend) support and/or use!
Not all the ROM's would be supported In-App, but you could use custom ones if you want.

Ah OK. Tbh, people should be able to vote for ROMS.

No they shouldn't. It's not like me and you have the same personalities. It causes fights too.

I think Adam Outler is working on a software which does everything. From installing necessary drivers to rooting the device. It's called Causal. I think its currenly of Note 2, but give that a try.

no..why would they fight. just make a public poll in respective forum and do not allow anybody to make posts in that thread.

instead of public poll just put in an option to choose rom.. (put in the link, the app/program downloads it and installs), or better still link to tapatalk!!
on ther note, someone made a device where u just plug in ur smartphone(android) and push button it will recognize and apply specific root procedure.... dont remember exactly what it was(someone from xda made it )

[RECOVERY] ClockWorkMod v5.5.0.4, v6.0.0.3 and v6.0.0.0 Touch (Alpha)

Hi everybody!
This is my first thread here on XDA. I would like to share this recovery with you. I compiled it from the (almost) newest CM9 sources.
Most of the functions work. You can make backups to internal and external SD card perfectly.
Known issues:
- You cannot install updates from external SD card, because it is mounted to /emmc, not /sdcard/external_sd. This is mainly because I use adb mostly for transferring files and it is more practical for me to push my files into /sdcard. However, it is not so hard to fix this.
Install:
- Put the attached file to your SD card and flash with CWM. I don't know if it works with CWM v4.0.0.2, it is fine with v5.5.0.4 I will upload the img if the zip doesn't work.
UPDATE:
I have successfully compiled CWM v6.0.0.0 Touch using http://builder.clockworkmod.com
However, I do not recommend it, because the default compilation environment set up by the site is not the most appropriate for our device (For example: It compiles for generic armeabi, not armeabi-v7a). But it works. You have to wait some seconds before it gets responsive for touch.
It is uploaded into attachments now.
UPDATE 1:
I fixed the home button (there was a typo in the source ) and the internal and external SD card swap. The new zip is attached. My versioning starts with v0, but it isn't marked. This is the v1 version.
UPDATE 2:
Touch version updated with internal and external SD card swap fix. The old versions are removed.
UPDATE 3:
I've just compiled v6.0.0.3 from sources. I haven't noticed any big changes compared to v5.5.0.4 yet. It seems very stable after some initial testing. Added to attachments.
Every custom modification to devices have risks. Flash this at your own risk!
Have fun and enjoy!

Problem is that some just write and write and write and most of what it does not make sense. The point is not just something to write and write, but write that makes sense. Write when you can help and when you will say something smart, not to write to each thread as soon as someone write something.
i am not gonna reply here anymore, i think there is no problem in commenting :|

Does anybody know where can I find sources for CWM touch? I'm trying it now with the online builder, but doubt that it will work.
It says ICS kernel is needed.
Update:
It works! The first post has been updated! Check out CWM Touch v6.0.0.0!

Hi buddy,
Thanks for developing for our device. I don't know how much this will help but you could have a chat with Chainfire or 'codeworxx'(Cyanogen MOD ROMs ). They have successfully made recoveries for many devices. Both of them post in Galaxy S2 & S3 Development section.
I'm not doubting your work but you could solve the bugs faster if they help / guide you from their experience.
Cheers !

See bro, First of all what I gonna write, will not pointing to u or to anybody in XDA.
What if we are forcing somebody to write..??:silly: You can check in Any section we have lots of comments / replies over same topics were strached & when we are in need & asking someone it doesn't mean we are spaming the threads. several times in "DEV section" or any section, we just asking DEVs to provide the "whatever we are in NEED". it doesn;t means we are making nonSense comments. so, there is need to understand the comments & requirement of the user.
please dont mind it. I am not pointing anyone..just making understand that what are we doing now a days.

Nice suggestion buddy..
About ClockworkMod Recovery 6
The recovery builder (Koushik Dutta) is now building version 6 of the recovery. The main changes are as follows:
Backups are much faster. 4-5x faster. (Bug fix due to excessive status updates of the UI and new backup technique)
Incremental backups are smaller. Way way smaller. Only 15-20MB each for each additional backup of a ROM. This is done using a new tool I wrote to dedupe the files between incremental backups to eliminate duplicates.
Source: https://plus.google.com/103583939320326217147/posts/cPF6gkmpM9m
Friend this is the latest version and only Galaxy Nexus is having this build, so we can expect some bugs...
@Adam thanks for the V6 build:good:, take your own time for fixing the Bug's ...
its not about communicating, its about posting useless posts which is not required. repeating thing which is already said doesnt makes any sense.
and about mod, he is handling many devices not only galaxy r so he cant provide his full attention here.
and about communicating we are on XDA not on facebook. if u r not going to post something helpful or useful information, than better dont post just for communicating. for communication there are sites like facebook and twitter not XDA

wkpark have made linux 3.x kernel for tegra2 SoC. but it is meant for g2x. i have contacted g2x devs and wkpark his self but those guys r not interested in our device.
if u r interested in kernels than look at his repos at github and if possible try to port it to galaxy r. we have ardatdat, who is only kernel dev in our community right now and great thing is he is also owner of sgr. if u need some help he will surely help u.

The download above is an apk....not a zip, let alone a cwm flashable zip...
Just download es file explorer from playstore(or other root explorer)
Enable root browsing under data
Copy the apk to /system/app

No problem...sorry if I was rude in my post above...
Anyways if its not a .zip then its impossible to flash with recovery...this doesn't mean all zips are flashable tho...what makes a zip flashable is an updater script located in meta-inf/google/android/ (I think that's the location...)

[ADVANCED USERS ONLY][PREVIEW] Evervolv Ubuntu Touch - 1 [2013.03.01]

Hey guys,
I thought I'd do ONE tutorial to guide you on how to get Ubuntu Touch running on your HTC Sensation. I will NOT offer any help other than this.
THIS IS ONLY FOR PEOPLE WITH KNOWLEDGE IN LINUX.
* I am stuck at step 8 I don't understand, pliz can u help mi????
Nope.
* WHY U MAD??
I'm not. I warned you that this was only for advanced users.
But first, the requirements;
>= 1.5 GB ext4 partition on your SD-card. (make sure it's the 2nd partition, ie mmcblk1p2).
SD-card reader on your computer.
Linux on your computer.
Ubuntu FS - (quantal-preinstalled-phablet-armhf.zip).
Basic knowledge of Linux.
So here's the guide.
1. Download the Ubuntu FS & Pyramid image (you can get the pyramid image here).
2. Backup your phone.
3. Wipe everything (Wipe data/factory reset + dalvik cache, and your ext4 partition).
4. Turn off your phone, insert the SD-card into your computer.
5. Transfer the Pyramid Image to your SD-card (Like you would do if you'd flash it normally).
6. Open a terminal, Unzip the Ubuntu FS.
7. Run the following command; sudo tar --numeric-owner -axf manhattan-quantal-armhf-tar-20130221-1.tar.gz
8. Run the following command; sudo rsync -aP binary/casper/filesystem.dir/ /INSERTPATHTOSDCARD/ubuntu/
9. Safely eject the SD-card and insert it into your phone.
10. Boot into recovery.
11. Flash the pyramid images (the .zip with Evervolv in it). With CMW or whatever.
12. Boot up
13. PROFIT???
14. Change the values in /usr/bin/ubuntu-session (Look for export GRID_UNIT_PX = 18 and change it to 12)
15. Reboot
16. PROFIT???
I take NO responsibility in bricked phones, bricked SD-cards, loss of data.. You get the point).
Please respect my decision not to help anything further than this. It is too time consuming!
Wow nice one!
Not asking for help, quite capable of doing it, but - whats it like? Usable or runs like a dog?
Thanks for sharing
You can see how it looks on ubuntu oficial site, looks grate! I will try this definitely!

... You mean; "These instructions are just like the ones for Desire"? Yes they are the same. But that's because you need to do the same for both devices. Shocking right???
You're obviously not reading thoroughly enough.
Could some please post a screen shot. Thank you!!!

Ultimate Dynamic Navbar now support MOTO X

MrBIMC said:
Thanks to @hidea MOTO X is supported in my app.
UDN now has 2 navbar-hiding methods(v0.17):
-Safe via xposed (works everywhere except x86 devices)
-Dangerous way(by modificating build.prop). <-- this doesn't work on lots of devices including MOTO X, but does work on x86.
If you interested in trying it out, check these links:
Community Edition on XDA
PRO version in Google Play
LITE version in Google Play
P.S. Note that as of moment when I posted this message latest PRO and LITE versions are not yet appeared in Google Play, it will take ~2 more hours before v0.17 appear there.
Community Edition v0.17 is already uploaded to it's thread.

Hello guys! I'm the developer of Ultimate Dynamic Navbar. That's awesome app, but curently it does not work on MOTO X
Theoretically I found the way to make it work with your device, but I need to test it
So I creating this thread.
Is here anyone interested in helping me?
To help you need have cwm(or similar installed) + superuser on device.

Ok, cool
Since this method is individual yet, we need to go private:
mail me: pavel.sikun(at)gmail.com
I'll tell you what to do there
P.S. I just tested this method on several nexus-devices and 1stgen kindle fire - it works well.

works great, disabled navbar completely and using pie controls now via GravityBox =)
cheers
I really want to try this... But I don't want to break my phone
I followed the instructions and the app kind of worked, but it didn't remove the existing navbar. It instead made a new one on top of it. I read the FAQ and didn't see anything on this.

You must meet all the requirements and then reboot. I'm assuming you forgot to install busybox?

Just risked it. Worked exactly as described.
I must be doing something wrong then. Carry on!

Guys, don't use dangerous method on moto x, cuz it may Brick the phone. Hide navbar through xposed module, that's safe.
P.S. BusyBox is required only for dangerous method. I forgot to remove checks after I added safe way.
I did the safe method. And it works fine. You just have to mess around with xposed and soft reboots for everything to work.
what is the easiest way to install busybox? i have framework and stuff running right and SU lists UDN as having root rights. so i think busybox is the only thing im missing?

Nevermind, I'll remove this message for this, who use xposed to hide navbar. BusyBox is needed only for dangerous method.
Update:
This app is working well now. I had to soft reboot exposed after enabling the module instead of reboot... After I had enabled exposed again. Noob problems.

This is a MODDED App which includes More Libs and Functions modified by me.
ALSO This will be actively developed and extracted directly from K910 by me... i will work on it for sometime and as long as i am interested in it.
Happy Photography. ENJOY.
Thanks BSD and good luck for ur new project..
Works great on Xperia S ! So much reduced noise, can't stop zooming the pictures Thank you !!!
Edit: I am using a 4.1.2 chinese stock based rom, so I think there won't be any trouble for other stock based roms on xs
Just installing now. Changing permission of all those libs! Lol.

Nice job.
Thanks!!! For this
i've tried on samsung galaxy nexus with android 4.4.2 and it works. many functions! thank you very much!
Is there a special reason, that it doenst work on every device or rom...because it doenst work for my lg e975.
im new to this but how do you set these permissions
Thx for this mod.
It works great on Huawei P6, but i have the same problem as with original versions. I have no option to set the resolution, so i can only use 8MP in 4:3 on my Backcamera. For Frontcamera i can set the picture size.
could you think to do a flashable zip? we can install apk without problem, but if a user change rom often, it's a bit annoying copying and setting permission every time for all those lib files XD

the reason for manual copy-paste is to avoid unforeseen FCs or bootloops which might arise device to device and rom to rom. i will develop CWM version along with Manual Copy-Paste version in the coming Release, ofcourse with a warning note
