Skyrocket will NOT connect to PC, have tried everything - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 Skyrocket (SGH-I727 / AT&T) that I cannot get to connect to a PC after weeks of trying. I have tried to read through hundreds of threads regarding this issue and it seems others have had similar issues but nothing quite like this.
When I connect my phone to a PC, it does charge but Windows XP or Windows 7 will not recognize the phone. Anytime it is connected an error pops up stating "USB Device Not Recognized. One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned and Windows does not recognize it."
So to clarify, I have tried the following suggestions from others to troubleshoot and try to narrow down the issue:
1.) I have tried 4 separate USB cables, including the original OEM Samsung brand data cable that came with the phone.
2.) I have tried 3 separate PC's (2 with Windows 7, 1 with Windows XP).
3.) I have installed Samsung Kies on all 3 PCs, uninstalled and reinstalled the program as well as the Samsung Drivers on multiple occasions.
4.) I have done a factory/data reset on the phone twice to see if this was an issue caused by other apps I've downloaded in the past.
5.) I have tried to use USB Debugging/Developer option and then connect the phone to no avail.
6.) I have tried USB Mass Storage option before connecting the phone.
7.) I have tried to connect the phone to a PC in Samsung's default recovery mode and still showed it was not a recognizable device.
8.) I have tried a friend's galaxy S3 on all cables and PC's mentioned above and Kies immediately recognizes her phone.
9.) I have attempted to clean the physical microusb port with a small brush to make sure the contacts were clean and not being blocked by something.
10.)I have done a battery pull and about 20+ phone resets for all above mentioned attempts.
Based on all of these attempts without any success, it seems to me that this being a PHONE hardware issue is highly probable. I've ruled out just about every other scenario and I'm wondering at this point if my phone's Micro USB port is fried somehow.
Has anyone heard of this or is this a reasonable possibility?
I have tried just about everything I can so far, if anyone has any other suggestions or has any information that may confirm my suspicion, please let me know.
This all came about in the past week due to Jelly Bean being finally released by AT&T / Samsung for the Skyrocket and unfortunately, this update only seems to be available via Kies and a direct data cable to a PC. I have tried to go to Settings > About Phone > Software Update > Check for Updates (while connected to Wifi with a full battery) and the phone has told me 3 times over the past 3 days that my current Ice Cream Sandwich v4.0.4 Android is the most current software up to date. I'm guessing they're not planning on releasing Jelly Bean to the Skyrocket via OTA air updates....so now I'm stuck.

Bizarre issue you got there mate!

Wow, thank you so much. This is the first thing I've seen from anyone regarding a possible fix outside of direct USB connection. I sincerely appreciate it!

You should also try a different computer if you can. It works on my laptop but not my pc. I have no idea why and have tried everything I can think of. Also, use the usb ports on the back of the computer, not the front
Edit: sorry I didn't read your whole post.

Well after getting into the details on the post, it looks like this is created for a phone that already has a custom recovery such as CWM or TWRP installed. Since I do not have a USB port to use on this phone as of right now, is there any way to install a custom recovery on my phone without using USB?
I did download the stock 4.1.2 Jelly Bean firmware directly on the phone's default directory already and it's sitting there in a zip format. If I'm not able to root and/or install a custom recovery without using a USB cable, would it be possible to install the stock firmware using the default samsung recovery mode?

if there is ive never seen it, let us know how, that is how to install a rom/firmware w/out custom recovery and w/a dead usb port

Crap if he's bone stock then no if it were stock rooted he could use dd commands with terminal emulator.
Also nowhere in his description did he ever say he deleted the old drivers from device manager.
Also I'm wondering how you are installing these drivers.

Well I did find this older thread that will supposedly allow me to install CWM and root without using a USB cable or PC. I'm going to try this since you all have confirmed that I'm not able to install a stock firmware/rom using stock recovery.

I'm going to need to figure out how to root and get CWM on my phone just to install Stock Jelly Bean all without using a USB cable. Still no luck so far.

It wouldn't work. Nothing will install in Android System Recovery <3e>. Everything I tried still came back with Signature Verification Failed.
I also tried lifting the "tongue" inside the usb port on the phone several times previously and that didn't work either. I must assume at this point the usb daughterboard or something inside is messed up.
Since stock recovery can't install any type of files and I can't connect the phone to a PC in any way and my phone is 100% stock without root or any custom recovery, I can only imagine I'm stuck in this situation. I have yet to see any solutions for getting root or installing CWM without having a USB connection that works. Unless I can do either of those things, it looks like I'm SOL for updating from ICS to JB.
If they had only made Jelly Bean an Over the Air update, none of this would be a problem really.

Too dangerous the ota bricks tons of people when they do it I can only assume at&t is tired of it and opts for kies only. Also you could buy a daughter board and replace it. It's a relatively easy fix.

So .... lesson learned here is that you CANNOT root a phone or install any custom recoveries such as CWM or TWRP without having a working USB connection. As a result, you CANNOT install any updates, stock firmwares and especially custom roms without the above.
Only option at this point is to order the replacement part for the USB port on the phone or to purchase a new phone (if it's outside of the warranty period).

There should be a link to a cwm.tar file (not the exact name) on this page. Flash it via odin and there you go.

Thats my problem I cant use my USB right now and I can only zip at the moment but barely can do that do to the Recovery messing up
Can't use USB right now...? I think you might be confusing transferring files to the USB card while the phone is booted, with flashing a TAR file via Odin.
Remember--when you're flashing via Odin, your battery is pulled, the phone is off, and then--while you do plug in your USB cable--it's only receiving power through that USB connection.
Use BDE's "How to customize.." guide here, and go directly to step 2. If you don't already have it, grab the "Red" Recovery from this thread (also linked to in BDE's guide); grab the TAR file listed there. Then go back to the guide and follow the instructions for Step 2.
That should get your recovery back to Red recovery, and I think from there I'd make sure everything else is working and the phone boots before doing anything else. Once it's up and running, then maybe give the kernel another shot.
EDIT: Thought of what else you might mean; if you're unable to get Odin to recognize when your phone is plugged in, hit up the Samsung website to get the Samsung USB drivers. Then, when you hold the volume down key as described in the guide, you should see one cell of Odin turn yellow, which tells you your phone has been recognized. Assuming you have a Windows PC, at least.

Yea I even put in another post about my USB issues and can't seem to find a solution. I may just purchase another phone. My girls works perfect and no connection problems but I may of damaged it or something but it only charges doesn't work other wise. ADB, USB file transfer, nothing.

So you're saying you can't even get the phone to work in Download mode? Will the phone actually boot up into Download mode?

Yea I get the yellow screen with the android saying downloading. I have tried 3 cables and 5 diff computers. I even went to cellular south and got a new cable. When I figured it was my phone was when my girls phone worked with the same equipment. Also sometimes when I plug it up to the PC doing download mode it will say USB Not Recognized and I have the drivers installed I even tried to select the specific driver but didnt know which one to do out the that folder of many LOL
Have you tried opening ODIN in Download Mode anyway just to see if it'll recognize the phone?

While I was getting pretty wordy with my answer, Add's more or less on the same track as me: Even with the USB not working when the phone's booted normally, does Odin recognize it even so, or is Odin what you've been trying and not getting to work?

The different computers you tried wouldn't really matter unless each one had the Samsung USB driver installed. Also, does your girlfriend have the same model phone as you? If not, it's not necessarily a fair test.
It does sound like you've tried using Odin, and it just hasn't worked (based on the bolded part). So, try this:
http://www.samsung.com/us/support/downloads/SCH-I500RKAXAR
Go to the above link. Underneath where it says "Download Center for SCH-I500RKAXAR", look for "Manuals | Software". Software should be a blue link; click on that.
You should see a list of four items you can download. Look all the way to the right, under the "File" column; there should be four little icons. Click on the first of the four, and Agree to their user agreement. Save the file somewhere easy to remember, and run that file. I'd suggest doing this on any home computer you might connect your Showcase to.
Then, try putting the phone in Download mode and connecting to Odin once again.
Does it work after that?
I dont know how or why but I was able to get odin to work on a XP machine and I flashed the odin files for pick and pack and the odin files for cwm recovery all and was able to get both the recovery and 2.2 but I have more problems LOL. My internal memory is 0. I factory wiped and wiped cache via red recovery but to no avail. Still getting 0
If you can get into your phone and do stuff in Android, I'd run a Titanium Backup of your apps and stuff. If not, you may be SOL.
I'd start by just finding a stock ROM for 2.1 or 2.2.1 and Odin'ing that over to the phone. Start completely clean, no custom ROMs. Then load up CWM Red again.

I have been looking for 2.1 Stock Rom for CS but I have not been able to. I have my apps backed up but unfortunately I can't install them in this Rom yet but I will keep trying to get it.
Ouchie! I just had a look throughout the Mes Dev thread, and the one post I saw for EB11 for Showcase had the link removed. Couldn't find any other reference for an actual stock 2.1 or 2.2.1 specifically for the showcase; the guys *may* tell you the Mesmerize ones work for Showcase, but DO NOT use them until one of them says so. I would guess not, but don't know for sure.
I'd see about hitting the IRC channel and asking for a clean stock ROM from there, and/or maybe getting some "in-person" advice that way. ...or hope Phidelt82 or Elijahblake come across this thread to get it to you/help you out otherwise. XD
LOL IKR but I have already asked them for a Stock 2.1 Rom for CS and I was pointed to someone but they haven't responded to me so idk. And thanks for some of the info and I am happy I was able to get the files b4 he removed his comments. I had them already saved on the computer.

Some individuals were trying to put together a 2.1 stock image but weren't able to get one working, the one they have is stock 2.2 and that is the only pure stock ROM they have, but there is no reason to go back to 2.1 unless you planned on using it and staying with it, so a clean flash to 2.2 should fix any issues you may be experiencing.

Root Problem SuperOneClick

Hello,
I've got a Skyrocket i727 and am stuck on the psneuter part when trying to root. I'm sorry for posting here since I'm sure the answers lie somewhere, but I've been researching since yesterday and haven't found it. I'm on a satellite internet connection that is pretttty slow.
Anyways, so I have the drivers installed, and then run SuperOneClick as Admin on windows 7. I click root and it runs until psneuter then appears to be stuck. It freezes there. When I close the black command screen that has opened it suggests I turn off debugging mode. When I try to close debugging mode it just stays at Waiting for Device...
So, what am I missing?
Thanks so much in advance.

Edit: for anyone else following this topic I found this info about cwm:

Is it possible to do this without having an external sd card?
Must have external SD. CWM is an aftermarket recovery that replaces your stock recovery. It allows you to flash roms, make nandroid backups restore nandroid backups ect.....

Defected sgs2 wont connect to pc, install custom rom ota?

Hey
i've been trying to find a custom rom that i can install onto my completely stock sgs2 lte without connecting to pc and flashing with odim. My phone is apparently defected and cannot connect to pc, trying to install custom rom might fix the issue. the phone is completely stock, not even rooted.
can someone direct a link to that rom?

the only way as far as I know is to hook it up to PC. Mine did the same thing. Wouldn't register on a PC. I tried various cables until I found one that would work. That's the best advice I can give you.

If your rom version support the zerg rush rooting method you can do it, install cwm and flash a rom from there.
I never had to flash anything using odin, tried using odin only once and even then I dont think it recognized my phone due to bad kies drivers(which I have fixed by now).
you do have the correct drivers installed right? More info in your first post would be an advantage to those trying to help

Also like the last guy I just thought about it could be your kies installed **** drivers, happened to me the first time, couldn't connect the phone to the pc but it worked great on the mac try completely uninstalling kies and the usb drivers and installing them from scratch.

the only way as far as I know is to hook it up to PC. Mine did the same thing. Wouldn't register on a PC. I tried various cables until I found one that would work. That's the best advice I can give you.

i have contacted samsung, they said its defected so send it in for repairs, since i dont have warranty they'd charge me up the ass. Its funny because they asked me why do i need to plug to pc, i simply said music, photo... shoulda been like TO MOD YOUR ****.
more or less, i have last resort to sell it on kijiji and buy another same model off kijiji, hoping its not defected. the sgs2 is a sweet phone, real talk lol

So it's pretty easy, use think to root your phone http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1321582
Then download rom manager and install CWM.
Then just flash everything you want with CWM without the need for a cable.

BUMP
Hi, I want some help with this same issue. I'm not sure what forum etiquette is here, whether you guys prefer a bump of an old thread or that I just start a new one??
Anyway my phone is wigging out so I wanted to wipe and flash but I can't figure out how to do this since no PC/cord combo will recognize my phone, though it still charges. I wanted to use ROM Manager to flash OTA, but I can't since I can't figure out how to get cwm installed ota. I've been digging around the forum and googling for a couple days now to no avail.
Version - 2.3.5
Baseband - I727UCKJ2
Kernel - 2.6.35.11
It was rooted but I never flashed any roms. It randomly shuts itself off and upon a battery pull will get stuck in Odin dl mode? If i do a batt pull after that it will go straight back to Odin dl mode or it get's stuck in a vibration loop. Sometimes if I plug it in it will start up with a dead battery though?
Any ideas?
Should I just make a new thread on this??
clean the usb port on the phone, then the usb shall connect, i had the same prob its fixed now
Install Odin and see if it "sees" the phone in d/l mode.

Bricked....Ugh

Ok so I've been rooted and unlocked for a while now, but stayed with the stock rom as when I tried out Synergy Nightlies it gave me some errors. So I went to try out CleanRom 2.1, people liked it and I didn't notice any flashing errors. So I flashed it through CWM 6.0.1 and it gave me the yellow exclamation mark saying I had unauthorized data on my phone. So I followed the sticky on how to unbrick my phone using the 2 boot loaders and the root66 stock image. My issue is that when running the root66 stock image through Odin it fails at _XmitData_Read, which seems to be somewhere in system.img.ext4. I've tried rebooting the computer, the phone, Odin, it just doesn't work. So when I reboot my phone after the failure I get Odin auto loading saying:
Odin Mode
Product Name: SCH-I535
Custom Binary Download: No
Current Binary: Samsung Official
System Status: Official
Qualcomm Secureboot: Enable
Then an image of a phone, 2 dots, a yellow exclamation, 2 dots and a computer are shown with the message "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies and try again.
Anyone able to help me?
can you still get to odin mode? also if you have kies installed on the computer erase it.

Kies isn't installed on the computer and yes I am still able to get into Odin Mode.
I'm under the impression that "unauthorized software" message comes from the locked bootloader (if I'm wrong about that someone plese correct me.)
Sounds like you're functional enough to be able to Odin back to stock and go from there - that's what I'd try. See the stickied thread in the Q&A forum.
I would run the FULL VRALF stock image through ODIN to return to stock. That is always the safest way out of a sticky situation.
Thanks guys, according to another post the version of EZ-Unlock I used most likely gave a false report and never actually unlocked my phone. The problem with going back to stock, which if what I'm trying to do, is that it fails.
Could be an USB issue - an intermittent connection would be most likely to cause problems while sending the system partition since that's the biggest. I've had problems using adb from time to time if I plug into one of the front-panel ports on my PC but no trouble with one on the back.
Maybe try switching ports or try a different cable ...
Actually what usb plug are you using on your computer? You should be using one in the back of your computer by the power supply. Seen the front jacks not work correctly for large transfers. Finally, try another usb cable.

Strange.... i was able to flash syergy on thefirst try. Never used odin during the whole process....
If youre rooted you need to make sure you have a custom recovery in place like cwm or twrp. Make sure you make a nand-backup.
I used casual to flash unsecure bootloader, with that and recovery in place you should be able to flash roms without any hitches....
I could never find a comprehensive guide on using odin so i never got around to testing it

So far I've tried 3 different USB cables and both a desktop, both front and back ports and a laptop, each one fails on the write of XmitData under system.img.ext4
I had a custom recovery installed and Odin is only being used to get me back to a stock rom, otherwise I did all my flashing under CWM 6.0.1 or twrp. I think the whole fake unlocked bootloader just hard bricked the software.
EDIT: Come to think of it I remember waking up to my phone in download mode. I think Verizon tried to install the update to my phone while I was sleeping. Granted it failed at the end, but I'm wondering if that did something to brick me now.
If you can get in download mode it can be saved. I woud re download the stock firmware or the 66, but personally i would go bone stock. You may just have a bad download.

Yea, I'm currently downloading at the speed of slug the newest update from the forums, will probably just redownload at home, since it's going to take over an hour >.<
EDIT:
Does anyone have a link for an older EZ-Unlocker, that is known to work, so that I don't get this problem yet again.
FIXED!
Ok, so using the newest stock rom from the dev forum worked. Can someone please give me a link to an old EZ-Unlocker so I can flash without worrying about another massive brick in my palm. I'm guessing that running the original root66 stock rom through dropbox somehow corrupted it.

I personally suggest not using the app if you already had trouble. Just root your phone using the Debug Root method in Development, download the aboot.img from Adam Outlers thread HERE to your phone, and run the commands at the very bottom in Terminal Emulater app (from the market).
That way you know for sure your bootloader is unlocked. This is what I have done and never had an issue.
Edit: Glad you got your issue resolved!

I need help asap

So im in a huge dilemma right now. My phone cant even connect to ANY computer with a USB regardless of what cord I use. Each computer says "USB Device is not Recognized" i've done multiple wipes and reflashes and it didnt help. So then I installed mobile odin and flashed a completely stock TW image through the app (since I cant acces ODIN on PC) and that didnt help either. So now that i've done that, I cant even root, unlock, or do anything with the device because the USB connection with the computer WILL NOT WORK. I called vzw tech support and they had no idea to fix it so they are sending me a replacement right now. Little did I know that my flash counter is at #2 and i cant even reset because I cant root my device anymore. Does anyone have any idea what I could possibly do at this point? Should i send in this phone and hope vzw doesnt look at the flash counter and refuse to let me keep replacement?
Could you Odin flash a rooted stock image from mrRobinson's thread in the dev section? Then run Triangle Away to reset your flash counter.

Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers on your computer, also, have you tried a different cord?
Well with mobile odin I don't think your computer will ever recognize the device that must first be completely removed. Them make sure the device is selected as MTP

So since I am not able to access odin through my computer because my S3's charge port is malfunctioned, I had to use Mobile Odin and I downloaded the no wipe factory image but I forget to have "EverRoot" checked to keep root. So now I dont have root, and I cant access odin to reroot my phone therefore its basically a brick.

Yes, I have tried multiple cords and uninstalling the drivers and reinstalling them. My computer just doesnt recognize the device at all. I used my other family member's S3 and works just fine. So you know its a hardware problem.

try a usbjig
you can reset the counter with a usbjig maybe that's causeing the problem i think yoru only able to flash the phone so many tims without resetting that counter

assuming you have already tried everything pc-side, including all usb ports, i'd start to think the usb port on your phone is likely to be broken, did you notice any damage to the pins?

Yes that is the case. Which is why I am getting a replacement device which is on its way. But what Im trying to figure out is how I can reset my flash counter without root since I can root my device without a working USB plug to my pc

i'm afraid there's no way to root a device other than odin or a superboot, and both require a pc
i guess you didn't have a custom recovery any longer after reverting to stock, did you?

What do you mean by that? I had twrp before I flashed the no wipe stock image through mobile Odin. then I did a factory reset. One other thing it does a show an unlocked symbol on the Samsung boot logo. How do I get rid of that
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 4
i have no idea what the unlocked symbol means as my first and only android phone is an acer
what i meant is that flashing stock ROMs usually ends up with the custom recovery being overwritten with the stock one upon booting the ROM
if you still had twrp installed after flashing, you could have used that to root by installing an update zip with su binary and superuser app inside
EDIT: i made one when i lost root by setting wrong permissions to the su binary, i can tune it to work with a sgs3 and attach it here, just in case it comes out useful

Yeah I was thinking about doing that but the recovery was overwritten with a stock one...So i guess all my options are out. I wish framaroot worked with my S3.
