Adding iCal file to JB phone possible? Not Google Calendar. - General Questions and Answers

My university provides an online calendar with export function. This is a link leading to an ical file which is updated from time to time.
In iOS it is possible to add this ical file but not in Android 2.3.
Now I got a Glaxy Nexus, with Android 4.2.2.
Can you tell me how to add this ical file there?
Specifically I mean adding it to the phone not adding the file to Google Calendar, which is possible.

The calendar on your phone and your Google calendar are one in the same. Unless you are not syncing your phone calendar. If you want to add that calendar without touching you Google calendar you could try this app. It will allow you to import your file.It is not free but IMO is the best Calendar app out there. https://play.google.com/store/apps/...?t=W251bGwsMSwyLDYsIm1pa2Fkby5iaXpjYWxwcm8iXQ..

It is not the same.
Google checks for updates in ical files only from time to time, could also be a few hours.
The problem is, the file is not meant for download. On iOS I can add it as an additional calendar and it is checked perfectely.
Is there a function for Android too, without downloading the file. It stays on the universitys server.
Busines Calendar only lets me import local files, not online files.

[Q] How to sync Windows (or iPhone) contacts to Tab?

Ok, I've given up trying to figure this out on my own, simply because the unfortunate keywords involved will show me Google results on just about anything other than what I need.
I want to sync my Windows contacts to Tab. Kies software does not see them. I don't have an Outlook, since Windows 7 64 bit has live mail instead. I've tried exporting contacts to VCF format, and then importing them through Kies but that didn't help either.
I also have an iPhone 3Gs that syncs to the same computer, using those same Windows contacts without a problem. Is there a way to get the contacts from iPhone?
I may be asking too much, but I'd also love to keep my contact photos that are neatly attached to many of my contacts.
This is really driving me crazy and any help would be appreciated.
Why not try exporting your contacts to CSV and then import the file into your Google address book (Contacts) online?

I don't really use Gmail. I have private server POP mail accounts and I keep my contacts on my iPhone, laptop and home PC.
Am I to get used to idea I'm gonna have to start using Google for e-mail, contacts, calendar etc.?
Use contact manager on your iphone to create a CSV and then email the file through the app to any email address you use, then on your tab log into that email account and save the CSV to your tab, then on the tab to into contacts and select import and it should find the file and loads them
that's how I did it

Export to VCF and import that into Google's Contacts. You don't need to really use gmail if you don't want to, but the gmail address book is the most convenient way of keeping track of your contacts. Plus you can then edit them from any PC with a web browser..
VCF (vCard) can embed images. I don't know if M$ Live Mail can write VCF with embedded images, though. But thats what you should try.
Just sync it with outlook contacts u can update with iphone and then pass to the tab. That's what in doing and when I change anything on the tab I just create a new sync so the.next sync with the.iphone will be clean and won't replace any contact.

how to import nbu file to gmail calendar?

hi
i bought galaxy s2 and i wants to import the calendar to gmail
i had the n73 of nokia and i export the file of the calendar
the file name is "2011-06-15 Nokia N73.nbu"
i try to import this file to calendar but i get error notice
"csv" or "lac" file only you can import
how can i import nbu file to gmail?
this is possible?
tanks
I do not think this is possible without converting the nbu files to cvs.
You could, however, use NbuExplorer (it's freeware) to do just that and then import the resulting cvs files into gmail.
Also, I cannot post outside links as I am stamped as a "new user", but just google it and you should find it.
i download nbuexplorer
when i export the item of the calendar
i get 3 folder
event,appointment,anniversary
in each folder i have many files of "vcs" (that include the information that i need)
and gmail can not import them
gmail also impory only one file
how can i zip the 3 folder to one cvs file?
thanks
Unfortunatelly I cannot assist you with that, I've never exported nbu files, as my last Nokia didn't even have an integrated calendar that was even remotely useful. Pretty old phone though. I'm sure there must be a help file for NbuExplorer or something of the likes?
i still have the n73 phone
maybe i can sync the calendar with application ?
Google Sync might do the trick, if it is available for your Nokia phone. I've used it before to sync my contacts from my Blackberry to my android phone. I'm not sure about calendar functionality though.
Edit: actually, yes, it seems to support exactly that. You need a google account, but as you have an android phone, I suppose you already do ;-).
Check this site out: http://www.google.com/mobile/sync/
I've always read it was not possible, if someone has a soft to do that mp me please

[Q] New Xoom user...import Outlook Contacts

hello-
I tried the search function for the Xoom for this question but no dice:
http://motorola-xoom-tablet-help.blogspot.com/2011/03/how-to-sync-xoom-with-outlook-via.html
I used the above link to try to import contacts from Outlook into my Xoom. In the instructions, it says to make a comma separated values file, which I did, and import into my Xoom, which I did.
On the third step, it says the following: 3. On your Xoom tablet, log into the Google account and select Gmail > Conacts and import the CSV file to transfer contacts.
So I opened my gmail account (the envelope with the M partially in it), but I don't see a Gmail ->Contacts selection anywhere, so I'm a bit lost.
Anyway, I have the outlook CSV excel file on my Xoom. How do I get these contacts on my Xoom, or should I be doing this a different way?
Thanks!
The way I did it was log on to googlemail via Windows XP. I clicked onto contacts in Google Mail and then under "More Actions" there is an "Import" option. I imported my CSV file from there
And then I synced my device.
I hope this helps

Ah, you did it on the main computer. I was doing it on Xoom....or at least trying to. I'll give that a try when I get home. Thanks!
I use My Phone Explorer.
With it I get my Outlook contacts and Calendar in my Xoom.

Need app for Birthdays and anniversaries

I need an app for reminding me of upcoming birthdays and anniversaries. I need the following features :
1) Should allow to add birthdays and anniversaries for persons not in my contact list, for e.g. kids. I don't want to add them in contact list as they do not have telephone nos.
2) Should allow for import / export of say CSV files which I can edit on laptop and import into phone
3) Should give reminder one day earlier and on day of birthday or anniversary
I have tried number of apps but all have only access to contact list. Also did not find them very user friendly. Currently trying ZDClock but even that is not really what I want. Cannot edit file on laptop. If there is any app which also has a PC equivalent and both can be synched, nothing like it.
Would appreciate any suggestions.
Dude the normal calendar (sorry)app on android syncs with Google calendar itself,ya don't need any app as such

Perfect. I had tried this earlier but somehow the CSV import never worked. Now I found the solution and it seems to be what I need.

You may try this, i think it will solve your problem upto a certain limit:
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.unchained.bestwishes&feature=also_installed#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEwNCwiY29tLnVuY2hhaW5lZC5iZXN0d2lzaGVzIl0.
As suggested you can use Google calendar. Create a new calendar, import your csv, then go in calendar settings->notifications and select as default reminders Pop-up. This will automatically add an alarm to every event on this calendar (alarm=notification in notification bar or sound or both, change it in Calendar app).
The problem of that is that if you add a new event to this calendar from your phone, you have to manually add the alarm, because the calendar app provided by Samsung by default set no alarm on new events (it ignores Google Calendar's setting).
However if you create the event from Google Calendar web page it will automatically add the alarm, so when you import your CSV it automatically add the alarm to all your events.
The advantage is that you don't have to import/export any CSV.

Sync Calendar

It is possible to sync a calendar, that do not support have a ics format or something like that on the URL, it's looks like a database that they uploaded to the site.
Is there some program that you can use to manipulate the URL so you can sync it with your phone ?
It's a Oneplus One
Thanks.
