Need app for Birthdays and anniversaries - Samsung Galaxy SL i9003

I need an app for reminding me of upcoming birthdays and anniversaries. I need the following features :
1) Should allow to add birthdays and anniversaries for persons not in my contact list, for e.g. kids. I don't want to add them in contact list as they do not have telephone nos.
2) Should allow for import / export of say CSV files which I can edit on laptop and import into phone
3) Should give reminder one day earlier and on day of birthday or anniversary
I have tried number of apps but all have only access to contact list. Also did not find them very user friendly. Currently trying ZDClock but even that is not really what I want. Cannot edit file on laptop. If there is any app which also has a PC equivalent and both can be synched, nothing like it.
Would appreciate any suggestions.

Dude the normal calendar (sorry)app on android syncs with Google calendar itself,ya don't need any app as such

Perfect. I had tried this earlier but somehow the CSV import never worked. Now I found the solution and it seems to be what I need.

You may try this, i think it will solve your problem upto a certain limit:
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.unchained.bestwishes&feature=also_installed#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEwNCwiY29tLnVuY2hhaW5lZC5iZXN0d2lzaGVzIl0.

As suggested you can use Google calendar. Create a new calendar, import your csv, then go in calendar settings->notifications and select as default reminders Pop-up. This will automatically add an alarm to every event on this calendar (alarm=notification in notification bar or sound or both, change it in Calendar app).
The problem of that is that if you add a new event to this calendar from your phone, you have to manually add the alarm, because the calendar app provided by Samsung by default set no alarm on new events (it ignores Google Calendar's setting).
However if you create the event from Google Calendar web page it will automatically add the alarm, so when you import your CSV it automatically add the alarm to all your events.
The advantage is that you don't have to import/export any CSV.

6 identical numbers per contact - how can i get rid of them?

after flashing bunches of times, and for some stupid reason importing contacts from the sim each time and then having it sync with google, i have 6 or 7 identical numbers under each contact.
any ideas of how i can pare 'em down to just the one?
thanks!
Go to your gmail which is here http://gmail.com.
Login and then select contacts on the left side and edit away.
ps: maybe not a good idea to import sim all the time...the first time should be enough because it with auto sync to your gmail account.
that's kinda what i've resigned myself to. i guess i was just hoping that some dev had had a similar prob and had written a quick app...
oh well...
Im not sure if anyone would spend time writing an app that does that because not many people have that problem.
I guess you could use Outlook to import the contacts and see if it detectes the duplication. Or if you do some analysis on Gmail's export format, I suppose you could use regular expression to do the job as well. As zeezee said, it probably doesn't worth it to develop an app for this.
Had the same problem a while back, easiest way i found was to login to your gmail account, export all contacts as a .csv file. Open it in excel or any spreadsheet program and delete the numbers out of all but one column for each contact. After that save the file (might want to keep a copy of the original just in case), delete all your contacts from gmail, then import your edited .csv file. Let me know if you have any questions.
If you login into gmail, amd export you contacts as a cvs, then clear all you contacts and re import the csv, google will detect the dupes, and fix it for you
For best results log into Gmail and select contacts.
Check each one of the dupes and select merge contacts.
This way you won't lose any detail in case contact 1 has the email
and contact 3 has phone number and home address.
I have to do this after a day of flashing because my MyFaves numbers
always get added back into Contacts.

[Q] How to sync Windows (or iPhone) contacts to Tab?

Ok, I've given up trying to figure this out on my own, simply because the unfortunate keywords involved will show me Google results on just about anything other than what I need.
I want to sync my Windows contacts to Tab. Kies software does not see them. I don't have an Outlook, since Windows 7 64 bit has live mail instead. I've tried exporting contacts to VCF format, and then importing them through Kies but that didn't help either.
I also have an iPhone 3Gs that syncs to the same computer, using those same Windows contacts without a problem. Is there a way to get the contacts from iPhone?
I may be asking too much, but I'd also love to keep my contact photos that are neatly attached to many of my contacts.
This is really driving me crazy and any help would be appreciated.
Why not try exporting your contacts to CSV and then import the file into your Google address book (Contacts) online?

I don't really use Gmail. I have private server POP mail accounts and I keep my contacts on my iPhone, laptop and home PC.
Am I to get used to idea I'm gonna have to start using Google for e-mail, contacts, calendar etc.?
Use contact manager on your iphone to create a CSV and then email the file through the app to any email address you use, then on your tab log into that email account and save the CSV to your tab, then on the tab to into contacts and select import and it should find the file and loads them
that's how I did it

Export to VCF and import that into Google's Contacts. You don't need to really use gmail if you don't want to, but the gmail address book is the most convenient way of keeping track of your contacts. Plus you can then edit them from any PC with a web browser..
VCF (vCard) can embed images. I don't know if M$ Live Mail can write VCF with embedded images, though. But thats what you should try.
Just sync it with outlook contacts u can update with iphone and then pass to the tab. That's what in doing and when I change anything on the tab I just create a new sync so the.next sync with the.iphone will be clean and won't replace any contact.

Editing facebook contacts...

I am using fission 2.4.3 ROM and i like the way it looks and all but is there a way to edit the Facebook syncd contacts like the factory Global contact list settings? it says facebook contact information is no editable on this device... am i missing soemthing? before the root and rom i syncd my contacts and was able to add numbers, emails and drag them onto the home tabs for shortcuts..
Welcome to the CLOUD!
Doesn't seem like such a great idea now does it? LOL
Here is what you do, it will require having or making a Yahoo Mail account but it will solve your problem.
If you use Outlook (like I do) it will be way more complicated but only because you probably want to use Outlook as your master list.
Step One - Go to Yahoo mail and import your facebook contacts into your yahoo mail contacts. (they have a wizard that does this for you) Then export Yahoo Mail Contacts to a CSV file. (This will work for myspace and linkedIn as well!)
Step Two (Google) - Import that CSV file into Google contacts and have your phone sync if it doesn't automatically (sometimes it takes awhile to sync)
Step Three - Look in your phone contacts you will now see dupliacte contacts of all your facebook friends. One will be from Google and the other will be from facebook. Select the facebook contact and JOIN or LINK (depends on your rom) it to the other duplicate.
You will now be able to edit all the fields not filled in by Facebook and a have a single contact for that person. (If you look you will see in the contact which profiles are linked together. You will have one profile for each contact source that has been linked. (one for Google and one for Facebook)
If you have Fission running you need to go into EDIT contact before you will get the JOIN button in the menu.
I have found that it is best to do most of your editing in Google Mail and then syncing anything else (such as outlook) to that (I use Companion Link).
And while it is ok to add contacts into outlook and sync with Gmail it is better to check those contacts for correctness in Gmail.
If they are correct in Gmail they are correct on the phone. And should you ever have to factory wipe data you will be sure to get all your contacts back when you resign into GMail on your phone.

How to "best" use Calendar(s) and Contacts

I have some questions regarding how to "best" use the calendar(s) and Contacts.
I want everything in one Calendar, so I've currently settled to showing only my Exchange (Outlook) calendar on my phone. I set up Google's Sync program on my work PC to update my Outlook calendar and Google Calendar, so I can read/edit it on my PC at home. After a number of missed meetings (and angry boss) I set this to a one-way push from Outlook to Google. No more missing entries. This means I cannot edit my calendar on my PC at home. How do I best view/use/edit a single calendar on my phone, Exchange, and my home PC?
Contacts are confusing to me. I don't fully understand how to think of them. I have ~500 contacts from Outlook, most of which were pushed to GMail. When I first started to use the phone and log in to Facebook, etc. I was prompted to "link" contact IDs. After linking a few hundred I though I was OK, but none of the newer contact pictures on my phone have been synced with Outlook. How do I sync this information? I PRESUME that linking really keeps multiple entries for a person with some fields from each source? What really happening when I "link" and how can I "merge" them instead? I'm most interested in "pushing" new/updated pictures to my outlook contacts.
Thanks in advance,

Time zones
In outlook, as well as on the phone's calendar application, you have the option to specify the time zone for the calendar entry. Simple and straight forward.

I'm confused. Why don't you just setup your exchange account on the phone and keep it separate from your gmail calendar? This way you don't have to sync outlook calendar with gmail calendar and you can still view/edit on phone. Yes you won't be able to view/edit from home pc but I'm not sure why would you want to do that?
The contacts are only linked, they are not merged (even though they show up as merged on the phone) so the pictures from Facebook for example won't be updated on your outlook. If you were to remove your Facebook account in your phone, you will lose all the pictures and other info that came from Facebook. It is built this way for privacy reasons so Google doesn't steal Facebook contact data and vice versa.

This software (called Fonebook) should allow you to update Outlook contacts with corresponding pictures from Facebook.

When I'm home I want to view my Calendar on the big screen of my PC. 14" is MUCH better than 3.7"
Sometimes I want to edit a Calendar entry when I'm home (e.g. add an entry with a long text note) which is a pain to do on the handset.
My N900 had an App to copy contact pictures from Facebook, etc. onto the handset's contacts, which were then sync'ed to Outlook. Is there an app with similar functionality for Android?
Thanks
Is there new software that will sync my Outlook calendar to Google Cal without me getting chewed out by my Boss for missing meetings?

Yes, outlook changes all of the entries according to changing time zones.
I want to enter my 9:30 return flight (when I'm booking, before travel) as 9:30. Outlook assumes I'll enter it as 6:30 since I'm in PDT and the airport is in EDT. I'm trying to use entries that are all local time. If I have connecting flights I need to pre-compute different offsets. Too easy to mess up and miss a flight.
I been trying different scenarios to see why your appointments are getting shifted but everything is working for me the way it should as long as I specify the time zone for the appointment and not accept the default time zone that Outlook or Google calendar suggests (they default to current time zone). Do you do that on your end or do you just enter start/end time for the appointment without along with the rest of the appointment details without changing the time zone?

[Q] Remove contacts birthdays from calender / showing twice in calendar

Hello,
just bought the Mate 7 and set it up. Synchronized the phone with the software "myPhone"Explorer".
I'm not using Google Calender -> no sync etc.
I notice now, that all the birthdays of my contacts are shown in the calender.
As I use also Outlook, i already do have all birthdays listed in my calender.
So, now I have shown every birthday twice in my Mate 7 which I (of course) don't like.
Does anyone have had the same issue and knows if it's possible to disable an option of showing every contacts birthday automatic in the calendar?
Regards,
Bacelo
Hello,
try to mate open google calendar , then "settings", and further "calendars" . Uncheck the " birthday " For me helped.

Hi Grafet,
thank you for your answer.
Just not to get you wrong: you mean the Online Google Calender (https://www.google.com/calendar/) or?
If so, showing birthday is disabled there.
I searched everywhere in the calendar settings of the Mate 7, but couldn't find any option not showing any contact birthdays.
*weird*
Regards, Bacelo
Hello,
I have exactly the same issue till 6 month.
And I couldn't find a way to disable this option.
I think it comes from the contact app.
Anyone can help us ????
Hello,
I guess I just figured it out...
It's the definitely a thing of a combo of calendar- & contact-app like an included function to automatically show the birthdays of the contacts in the calendar (which isn't actually that bad).
But, like me, synchronizing with "MS Outlook" via the software "myPhoneExplorer", I got in trouble because I also have the birthdays in Outlook as an real calendar entry.
So final what I did to get it fixed:
- deleted all birthday calendar entrys in the Mate 7 (which was pulled over from Outlook)
- then, in the software myPhoneExplorer -> settings -> synchronizing -> events & tasks -> enhanced/extended -> filters
- there are two filter fields and in the second I entered: Geburtstag;Birthday
It may differ a bit as I have the sync software in German.
You also might change "Geburtstag;Birthday" to whatever your category naming in Outlook is for the group of birthdays (if you have set that up).
In addition, you can also use the name filter of the first filter field (in my case "Geburtstag von").
*voila* :cyclops:
-> So what it does now, the software filters and skips all Outlook calendar entries of the category you configured (f.e. "Geburtstag" / "Birthday" etc.)

Bacelo

Hello,
I agree with your method. It corrects the fact that we show them twice.
My problem is that I have birthdays stored in my contacts but, for some of them, I don't want to display them in my calendar.
And if I understood your method well, you erased your birthdays from your outlook calendar. I need them in outlook.
Thank you for your solution but I'll try to find another one but as you said, I think it's a native function that is not customizable.

Nope, I did NOT erase anything from outlook calender.
1.) I did erase/delete all the birthday entries in the ANDROID Mate 7 calender (which had been inserted on the very first sync with outlook).
2.) Then, finally only all the CONTACT birthday entries in the Android calender (auto include function?!) showed up
3.) Finally I did set up the filter function in myPhoneExplorer software to EXLUDE Outlooks Birthday calender entries during syncs.
What it does now when synchronizing is to sync everything EXCEPT Outlooks birthday CALENDER entries.
Hope this helps.

Bacelo
I'm facing a strange behavior. I'm using myphone explorer as well to synchronize with Lotus Notes. For some reason the latest calendar entries from Notes have been synchronized into the Huawei birthday calendar.
I didn't even realized that this calendar exists, however if really like to know how to disable it or at least how to prevent MPE to synch with it.
Any ideas?

you can set up some "Ausnahmen" / exceptions as a filter.
This can be done for
- contacts
- calendars & events
So all you need to do is configure a exception filter in MPE in your profile -> menu -> settings (or just hit "F2" in MPE) -> synchronizing -> "Termine & Events" -> Erweitert
- See the right column "Filter" -> the possible entry fields
- in my example, I entered in the first field "Geburtstag von" and in the second one "Geburtstag;Birthday"
So check, how the birthday entries look like in you Lotes Notes and set up MPE filters respectively.

Bacelo
