RSD Lite Not Reading Device - Motorola Photon Q 4G LTE

Okay, so I have used RSD Lite before with no problem. I need to flash my entire device back to stock before tomorrow, but the program is not reading my phone. Motorola Device Manager is installed, same setup I had last time I had to flash after soft bricking...I can't figure it out. Any help would be very appreciated. Thank you.

Have you entered AP Fastboot mode? Hold both volume button and power. You'll see bootmenu. And navigate using volume down and select AP Fastboot using volume up.

Yeah, totally know what to do, and what order to do it in, only RSD Lite will not acknowledge my device! Crazy, cause I just flashed stock image ASA 14 about 3 weeks ago, no problems.

Nevermind... hehe

Are you in Windows? I find Windows pretty annoying when it comes to certain drivers. You might have a look in Device Manager while your phone is plugged in(maybe check with the phone is fastboot mode too), and see if there are any Moto related drivers that have a yellow exclamation point. If so, perhaps reinstalling Device Manager will fix it? Good luck

Tried uninstalling and reinstalling Moto Device Manager 3 times...no. Tried RSD Lite versions 5.7 through 6.1...nothing. Is there an actual driver pack I can install that would have the appropriate drivers?

I do have a driver installer downloaded on my computer, but I don't know if it would help you. I will attach it here just in case.
I had this issue a month back, but Moto Device Manager ended up being the solution for me. I have RSD Lite 6.1.5, and it sill recognizes my device in fastboot mode.
edit: the site wouldn't let upload the files for some reason, so I used Dropbox. here is the driver installer I have, but i'm not sure, it might not have solved the issue for me. also, here is RSD Lite 6.1.5 in case you don't have it and wanna try it:

hope you get it working,,, i'm sure you will somehow..

Yeah, I'm sure somehow that I will...thanks for the files, I'll try that now. Oh, by the way, you should check out the Dev Host site (google it), they provide free file uploading and sharing for, well, developers (or anyone for that matter). Only 500 MBs worth of storage is provided for free, but that really is all I need. Anyway, I'll try your advice and let ya know.

damn, that sucks! did you ever check Device Manager in the Control Panel. i remember seeing a missing Moto driver there, but then again, that led me on a driver search, which led me to Moto Device Manager. did you completely uninstall it first before reinstalling it?
i dunno, just throwing out ideas here lol. otherwise, you might be able to just fastboot flash the necessary components from the FXZ file to get your setup back to stock. or else use a stock TWRP backup, then reflash stock recovery. hope you get it

Okay, now this is weird! I have my system back up and running, but I can only load it by starting the bootloader and choosing "normal startup"; otherwise my device boots into fastboot automatically every time I power down. Seems like I can't utilize stock recovery either when I flash it (otherwise I am using TWRP). My entire purpose behind unrooting and going back to stock was to update to JB as I participated in Moto's soak test. I am still stumped...?
System Up, Stock Recovery Down
Guess I'll try re-flashing the bootloader? or a version from a different/newer image?

hmm ok, that's good you made some progress, not sure what's up there. which file did you restore with RSD? i tried restoring the asa14 one last night and got an error immediately, but i'm not sure if i edited the xml properly.
so what i ended up doing was restoring this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=33942232&postcount=12. it will restore everything to the original factory firmware that came with the phone.... except for the system. but i had already restored the stock system with a TWRP backup posted by rangerbry, so it was ok. then i had to run the 2 OTA updates on the phone to get up to the most recent official release. it's a bit convoluted, but it's an option, hehe.

I think the problem is with the cdrom...my phone keeps booting into AP fastboot automatically like I said...and I was never able to get RSD Lite to recognize my device, so I only used fastboot and TWRP. RSD Lite is sadly not an option for me at this point...
Oh, the image that I previously restored with RSD was odexed and purely stock, ASA 14-15 Sprint. Now it wont read in RSD...

Stock recovery still not functioning, but phone doesn't auto load fastboot anymore. Still can only load system from bootloader. But also TWRP doesn't disappear after reboot. I flashed cdrom, but is what is the extension? Is it a .img, or is it supposed to be? In details it just said "file".

[Q] Nexus S 4G won't boot past Google Screen!!

I tried rooting my phone, but when I flashed CWM my Nexus S stopped booting... it freezes on the Google screen in the intro. I can boot into Fastboot, and cwm, but I cant connect the Internal memory to the computer without it booting like it is supposed to. Does anybody know of anything I can do to fix my phone and bring it back to stock??
There are guides for returning to stock stickied in the Nexus S 4G Android Development forum.
Before you do that though, try flashing a different recovery, like the one linked to here or here.
Btw, which guide did you use? You're not the first person to have this problem, and it's really bugging me (though probably not as much as it's bugging you :-o).
Maximilian Mary: I tried to post the link, but since I'm a new member I have to wait 8 posts before I can post a URL.... :/
I will try a different recovery, but how would I flash a rom if I can connect my phone via usb mount?

I'm a little out of my depth here, but I think it's
fastboot flash system system.img.
You don't need to put the rom image on the sdcard. Just put it in the same folder as fastboot.
It was titled "How to Root Nexus S!"
And I will try to flash recovery and try that rom command, thank you )

There's a button for that.
I got the link. Thanks. I looks like you flashed a boot image that is incompatible with your phone. That guide was for the T-Mobile Nexus S. (Why they're screwing with the boot.img to begin with, I really don't understand.)
Download the attached file, and unzip it to the same folder as fastboot. The md5 sum is d4a9508f9321eb25df3383f00f571e8b. Then
Code:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
You'll probably also want to use one of the recoveries listed above to
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
, but leave system alone for now. Flash that only as a last resort.

same problem with me.
but in my case, the phone not only freeze after the google logo before boot. I tried several times to pull the battery and start the phone again, it took several times until the phone can boot normally again.
After that, my nexus s can work as usual. but it only takes 3-4 hour until it freeze/hangs or reboot automatically and show image of green robot lay down with red alert triangle...
sometimes I noticed all application force closed like gmail, gtalk, etc. (its a basic apps instead of 3rd party app)
History :
- root GB 2.37 using superoneclick
- upgrade OTA to ICS 4.04
- problem happens
- root using guide : nexusshacks.com
- unroot using guide : nexusshacks.com
- back to factory setting on GB 2.34
- upgrade OTA to ICS 4.04
- Still got that problem.....
I'm using Nexus S 4G Sprint, pls help me guys...
nexus s won't boot
I had the same problem and read elsewhere that heating the phone with a hairdryer solves the problem.
I must say, indeed it did.
I removed the battery and the SIM card, then heated up the phone (so it really feels warm) put back the battery and sim and simsalebim the phone started again. and is still working since (now already a few day's)
It seems that a component in the phone is heat sensitive, the question in my mind is when will this show again and do I need to consider buying a new phone.
But sofar it works
PS I also tried hard reset factory reset the lot, but in the end only heating up helped.
Good luck, David
I fixed this problem! but I had to wipe all user data by rooting it using nexusrootICS. It finally boots up and the phone works now... that's all I need.

[Q] I used Root uninstaller to remove bloatware, but the apps are still lingering.

I semi-bricked my Optimus One earlier today, but fixed it via KDZ and the India rom fix..
Re-rooted..
and used Root Uninstaller to remove the Bollywood bloatware like I did before..
only this time, all the apps I uninstalled, are still showing in my installed list, but with the "SD card" icon..
they're NOT on the card, I made sure of that..
but idk where to find them in the filesystem..
they're taking up space that I don't really have, y'know.
how would I go about remedying this?
(I'll post a screenshot later, when the site will let me.)

It's possible that your root didn't take or the system partition didn't get remounted RW. System Apps reside in /system/app . User apps reside in /data/app .
The root did take, I confirmed that.
and the files are not in those locations..

I'm at a loss then. I've never experienced the issue you are facing. You rebooted after removing those apps? Are you using some kind of *2SD script?
Yup, I rebooted.
no, I'm not using any scripts or anything..
The only thing I have my phone doing that it "shouldn't" is the root.
am I going to have to re-flash it, and try to remove them again?
Also, the apps in question are not in the list when I go through Root Uninstaller again.
I'm guessing there's something better than RU, but I just don't know what it is yet xD

Possibly as a last resort. Do you have a custom recovery installed? If so, try wiping cache and Dalvik cache and then reboot. The reboot will take a few minutes as Android will need to rebuild the caches.

What version of Android is on your device? 2.2 is Froyo which is old baseband. 2.3 is GingerBread which is new baseband.
Download my tool. Make sure USB Debugging is enabled on the device. Complete instructions are in the download archive. It's up to you tho.
I have used Root Uninstaller for 11/2 years on my Optimus V. The Uninstaller doesn't work that well.
I just use it because it auto saves all downloaded apk's, every version. I have to manually delete any saved versions.
Great when an update to an app is borked, or too slow of a data connection to re-install Titanium Backup after a ROM flash (I go to folder on SD card and move TB apk to root of SD card, then install).
Try using Link2SD
It has worked flawlessly to delete any unwanted pre-installed apps from ROM developers and Google Apps.

fastboot is a little weird. Boot device into fastboot mode, but not connected to PC. Then connect to PC after getting into fastboot mode.
I think I've seen something like that before. I think it's when the APK is gone but the cache, dalvik etc for the app is still there.
If you haven't yet done anything hardcore to your phone. EG: Reflashing.
And can still boot into your ROM then you might wanna give Clean Master a go.
It's here:

It's got a Residual Files cleaner which might get rid of the files that are causing your problems

Yeah, the driver from LG.
Go Here.
Scroll down to Manuals & Download, Software Update tab and then "Install the USB DRIVER"
Just get the driver, don't worry about the LG Mobile Support Tool. That's for updating the stock ROM.
Officially but there are no official updates since GB.

Bricked MAXX, Need Help

Hello,
I have been crack flashing for a long time, but when I got the Droid Maxx from verizon I was disappointed at the lack of an unlocked bootloader. I had been running safestrap and was getting the phone ready to return for a refund so I can get the developer edition.
So, it looks like using safestrap I completely wiped the system partition. I can get the phone to boot to flashboot mode or to the safestrap flash screen but that is all.
Using RSDlite I attempted to flash 12.9.0, but get the return message "Failed flashing process. 2/17 flash partition "gpt.bin" -> Phone returned FAIL. On the phone it said:
"downgraded security version
update gpt_main version failed
preflash validation failed for GPT."
So it looks like the issue might be because I am flashing the FXZ file for 12.15.15, but I cannot find the FXZ file for it.
I also tried using House of Moto. Attached is a screen shot of what I get.
So basically it looks like I have no ROM whatsoever. Is there a way out of this so I can return the phone for a refund?
Thanks in advance!
I realized that I had not set things up correctly for House of Moto, I ran it, and boot.img, system.img, and motoboot.img are not loading because they are from the previous image and it will not allow a downgrade.
So, I guess I need to get the factory image of the latest update, or perhaps get those *.img files from someone with a working phone and drop them in to folder before flashing.
Anyone have the factory image after the OTA? Or perhaps the missing files I need (if dropping them will actually work, of course)?

I am having the same problem only I am on the Droid Ultra and not the Maxx, I too need the files for the latest OTA because the two older files are supposedly out dated for me, i get a bunch of failures. What sucks is some files were clearly restored because it erased Safestrap and now i have stock recovery but it didn't restore the OS or anything so i cannot boot up into anything but fastboot....hopefully someone uploads the latest ota to the site or even the forums....good luck to you. i need it as well.

I'm in the same boat, but not quite as bad. I've got the mini, and it boots into the normal mode, but not all things work - touchless controls crash every time I try to open it, and my calendars won't sync. My recovery is gone, when I try to boot into it, I get an android logo with it's chest open with a red triangle.
I tried using RSD Lite and fastboot with the original stock image files, but the result are the same. I'm going to hold out for someone to post an image with the OTA included or another workaround. Amazing how we got the same problems at roughly the same time after the OTA.

if yours boots into the OS maybe you can still root it, after you root it you can then modify system apps, getting rid of touchless control and then reinstall it, may fix the force close. also if you manage to gain root you could install safestrap. the android with the triangle is the stock recovery, i forget what buttons or button combination you have to hit to make the menu appear but that is the stock recovery by what you're describing
So I just got back from the Verizon store, I went in to see if they could flash the files I need. They told me they couldn't but gave me a number at motorola to see if they would e-mail the files to me.
Unfortunately that didn't work. Motorola said I could send the phone in for a repair, and that was my only option.
I think I'll take the second option and wait until someone posts the files and flash them with RSD Lite.
I just hope that happens soon, as I am wanting to return the phone and get the developer edition. I have until Saturday to return it and I doubt they will give me a refund with it in this state.

Here's the issue, I can't boot into write-protected off mode. When I tried running HouseOfMoto, I flashed stock recovery for pre-OTA; since I received the OTA, I can't install PwnMyMoto, which is what gave me the write-protection off mode in the first place. Now when I go from the bootloader into recovery, I get the dead android + red triangle, what you call stock recovery.
I have root level access, but it's all but useless since the system is write protected. In other words, no Safestrap. I'll have to live with what I've got until someone finds time and reason to upload the post-OTA image or something newer.
Edit: Fixed it, maybe it will work for you guys. Check the PwnMyMoto thread for the source, I can't post it due to being new.

If you used 1.1 and have a problem with recovery coming back, run the following command:
adb shell su -c "dd if=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/boot of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/recovery"

With my issue I cannot even get to the point where I can use ADB. I am pretty much stuck with fastboot commands. I can get the bootloader and stock recovery, but nothing more.
Is there something that I can edit in the update file that would allow the version downgrade test to pass? I've played around with the XML file, but I am not having much luck.

Your only current options are to wait for a newer FXZ or have Motorola perform a repair on it.

[Help!] XT926 Mega Bricked

Everything is screwed for me. I can't even RSD back to stock. I can access TWRP, but can't wipe System or Data. Fastboot is just there and won't actually push anything. I already have a Moto X now, and I was talking about this issue about a week ago on the Android Development subcat, but I thought I would give it one last go on here to see if I can at least make it a backup.

Maybe if you could give some more detail about what exactly you can and can't get the phone to do, what screens can be accessed, and what you did that lead to this condition, we could offer some advice.
Also, no offence to the devs, but twrp is the devil lol. Most issues I have had in the past have led back to it in one way or another, so I never use it. (Just my opinion)

I can get to the Fastboot screen, I can access TWRP, and I can get the phone to bootloop at the boot animation screen.
I can't push anything through ADB or Fastboot, I cannot mount data or system in TWRP or otherwise. RSD comes back failed every time with every single stock build I use.
Literally two weeks ago, I was in bed, watching TV, with the phone charging. I unlock it to see if I had any notifications, and it kept saying that Nova launcher FC'd. So logically, I rebooted my phone and that's when it started boot looping.
I did nothing to the phone for a couple of hours, it was on the official CM 10.2 11/9 build. I had that ROM running fine for at least 24 hours before it went FUBAR.

Nope, my status us unlocked: 3. But when I get home, I'll try the mfastboot instead if fastboot.

Well that sux.
Your problem is different than what I made this for but I was hoping it would work for you.
What did it do, fail all the way through?
When I tested it on my phone it reported flashing the partitions ok. There was actually extra text displayed while it was doing it that I didn't put into the script, that's how I knew it was working.

im running out of suggestions
if you havent tried to put stock recovery back on yet, how about we try that and see what happens.
if you dont know how to do it through adb, just grab the 1.34 utility from the dev forum, it will push it through fastboot.
something is obviously wrong with twrp, maybe we can fix that first.
I tried flashing even the stock Recovery manually and through the 1.34 utility. Always comes up failed.
Did you try the manual steps that I posted in my links?
i hope that works, but im doubtful.
the utility essentially flashes exactly as you would manually.
he doesnt have a partition issue, im guessing something is wack with the permissions.
if twrp somehow screwed up the permissions to read only, i believe even the partition file cant overwrite it. i could be wrong.
So I think it has something to do with the Permissions of one or more of the partitions. I just noticed it keeps saying Permissions Denied when I try to fastboot or mfastboot.

Are you sure you have the snapdragon fastboot? Can't hurt to reinstall it.

Also have you tried flashing it manually? (fastboot flash system system.img, etc.)

he defiantly has the right fastboot, its in the utility that has been downloaded thousands of times.
if its write protected some how, its not going to flash no matter how you try it.
what i was wondering is if recovery can fix permissions that deep, not sure he said he tried that.
What do you mean with recovery?

go into twrp, advanced (i think thats the right section) and look for a line that says "fix permissions" and do it.

Installed TWRP on StraightTalk SCH-S968C Samsung Galaxy S III - now no OS! - resolved

I have a rooted StraightTalk SCH-S968C Samsung Galaxy S III (with the stock AOSP ROM) that I just screwed up. I had used EZ-Recovery to flash TWRP 2.2.0 to the phone. Now TWRP says there is no OS! I can only boot into TWRP - nothing else. It won't even let me power-down the phone. Is there some way I can recover from this, or do I now have a very expensive electronic brick (that runs TWRP)? I have adb installed on my laptop and I know it works, so that's one possible route to recovery. Any help would be much appreciated!

I'm pretty sure it's possible to return it completely to stock with the COMBINATION_S968CUDUAMH1_S968CTFNAMH1_1304014_REV09_user_low_ship.tar.md5 file through Odin. I just to happen to have the file right here.. small warning though, it's 1.2 gigs.

That's the file I am offering to host on my Website, since nobody seems to be able to download it from Dropbox. I'm having trouble downloading it from Mega... Since the file is over 1 GB, Mega insisted I needed to download their extension, but it's not compatible with Firefox 22. I tried Chrome, and Mega says that Chrome on my laptop is "a bit outdated"... sheesh! I'll try and update it.
(added later) - I found a Dropbox link for the file and it's downloading now.
If you want to FTP the file to my Website, let me know by PM and I'll give you the username and password.
I tried using fastboot to install CWM Recovery, but fastboot is eternally "waiting for device" even though it's there (adb can see it).
Aug. 7 - Got the file I needed, but didn't use it since Windows7 would not recognize the phone even after I installed the drivers. (I think it was an issue with automatic updates being disabled...) In the meantime... I tried the button-combo for the bootloader (which I swore I tried the day before and it didn't work), and the phone booted into the bootloader! From there, I pressed "Volume down" to cancel & reboot the phone, and it went into the stock system - it was all still there! First thing I did was immediately use EZ-Recovery to flash CWM 5.8.4.5. - Issue resolved!
Deleted.

In that thread go down to method 2 of getting a custom recovery. I downloaded cwm touch from the link there and then installed it with android terminal emulator using the codes that it says to type in. I tried to look up that stock rom but I didnt find it. Its on the forum somewhere in a thread about how to root the straight talk s3 and how first you need to download and flash the h1 baseband stock rom

Let me know if you need some help, tell me where you're at and what you've got going on with what you have.

I have combined 2 s3's to make one good one. This is the proper thread for the model of the chipset. The phone has been worked on buy someone who only thought they were a genious. I've found traces and from surfing the forums I'm pretty sure I know what they did even. I'm gonna grab these stock images and flash back to stock. I just wanted to put a word in now to see how dead this thread is. BTW just for the record easy safe root is achievable with safroot for Att g s 4. I've confirmed that. Root is no issue. Modem drivers are jacked up. I want what I have now with WiFi in tact and custom recovery. Just wanted to get the word in in case I hit a wall with recovery as I am now before the flash to stock.
