No you don't need to sim unlock it. The only reason you would do that is if you wanted to use it on another network.

Ok and then root it and how to install 4ext?
Edit: can't find desire s on htcdev.com/bootloader which device I need to select?

Wouldn't it be a trip if someone were to get this RUU onto their DNA? Convince it that it's a Butterfly via firmware, and then magically S-off...
People do it with graphics cards all the time.

Nice find, hopefully a developer can use this as a base for a custom Rom.

In theory, couldn't you just pull the hboot and apply it to the DNA RUU? Just a thought. If it doesn't work you could always ruu back to stock.

I was already on 1.19 before I did S-OFF using the method in this thread.

Only this version/varian/Carrier ID of HTC Butterfly can get supercid + S-OFF:
+ HTC__044 wwe - international ver (thanks to a4tw team, beaups )
