[APP] Keyboards with swipe (google, swype, xperia) 2013-06-10 - RAZR i Themes and Apps

Here are a few keyboard packages that I have ported from ARM to x86, to make them work on the xt890.

Download: kbd_JB_1.0.1869.683049.zip - 10.82 MB (updated)
Google Play Store, version 1.0.1869.683049 from 2013-06-05.
Swipe input works with houdini ARM emulation; maybe it causes a higher battery usage, but I have not noticed.
Language and dictionary support much improved from previous JB 4.2.2 keyboard.
My favourite keyboard. I find swiping is faster on this keyboard than others, and it gets even better as you use it, thanks to the word prediction which learns as you use it. If your language is supported, I recommend it.
If you would like to reinstall the original Android 4.1.2 keyboard that ships with the Motorola JB EU retail firmware, download this zip file: kbd_JB412_xt890.zip
To remove the Android keyboard alltogether, and its associated data, download this zip file: kbd_JB_remover_v2.zip - 553.55 KB (updated)
Sony Xperia 5.6.A.0.28 keyboard with swipe
Download: kbd_xperia_5.6.A.0.28_x86.zip
Extracted from Xperia Z C6603 firmware 10.1.A.1.434.
Removed Chinese and japanese keyboards.
Swipe input works with houdini ARM emulation; maybe it causes a higher battery usage, but I have not noticed.
Bilingual support.
Comprehensive language support.
I love the appearance of it, and if you find yourself switching between 2 languages, you might find this keyboard very useful. Swiping does not seem as fast as the Android one.
To remove the Xperia keyboard alltogether, and its associated data, download this zip file: View attachment kbd_xperia_remover.zip
Swype EMEA stock keyboard
Download: kbd_swype_xt890.zip
This is the keyboard that ships with the Motorola RAZRi EU retail JB 4.1.2 firmware.
Native x86 support, so maybe more battery efficient than the others.
Comprehensive language support.
In my mind this is the original swipe keyboard, and it is great. However, I think it has now been overtaken by other keyboards, like the Android and the Xperia, which offer more features. It feels very accurate to me, but not as fast the Android keyboard, due to lack of features; speed is similar to the Xperia one.
To remove the Swype keyboard alltogether, and its associated data, download this zip file: View attachment kbd_swype_remover.zip
Typing speed test
I had a feeling I was swiping faster on the Android keyboard than the other keyboards. So I did a sort speed test, typing the first paragraph from the Wikipedia Android entry, verbatim:
Android is a Linux-based operating system[12] designed primarily for touchscreen mobile devices such as smartphones and tablet computers. Initially developed by Android, Inc., which Google backed financially and later bought in 2005,[13] Android was unveiled in 2007 along with the founding of the Open Handset Alliance: a consortium of hardware, software, and telecommunication companies devoted to advancing open standards for mobile devices.[14] The first Android-powered phone was sold in October 2008.[15]

6:12 Xperia keyboard

So there you have it: Google keyboard is the fastest for me, and I was not even using the word prediction feature, since I had just wiped the data.
Instructions
Place the zip file you want to apply on the phone
Reboot in recovery mode
Install the zip file from recovery
Reboot
If there is a problem with the keyboard you just installed, clear the data
All the recovery zip files take care of wiping the cache and dalvik-cache, so you don't have to.

t9-layout?
thanks for your work, arman68!
question: is it possible to change the sony-keyboard-layout to t9? I like the app-style, but I want to have the possibilty to use a t9-keyboard.
thanks!

Really ?!?!
Yes, the Xperia keyboard has a T9 layout as well:
Now, you can enjoy T9 typing, like it was the 1990s again

Thanks
thanks man, your work not only helps Motorola users but also other 4.1 users(i use xperia play!lol) too.

Did not check the Xperia keyboard, but the original android cannot swype on all languages like swype (e.g. Serbian)
Thanks mate!
I will check the xt890 version as the beta of swype seems to be somewhat laggy on the xt890.

Hi, many thanks for the keyboards.
Is there any way that the Xperia keyboard could be installed without root? The only way to root on JB that I know of involves unlocking the bootloader, which I won't do on this phone. (never have i seen so many bricks)

You need root.
Since this will void your warranty, the decision is up to you. My experience is that the phone is pretty much unbrickable.

I bricked the phone and got a new one. I found a lot of threads with bricks:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2218273
I'm trying every new/similar root that I find, when I get one I'll def flash this. Thanks

Real hardbrick? Are you sure it was not just a softbrick?
I have lost count of how many times I have bricked my phone, but no matter how desperate it seemed, it always turned out to be a softbrick and recoverable; that is part of android development. I find this phone is actually really difficult to hardbrick (unlike HTC phones). I will grant you, it is more difficult than others to recover, especially due to the lack of removable battery, but it is otherwise very resilient.

Am I the only one having FC with the Android AOSP Keyboard?
I tried to install the zip in recovery, tried to install apk files directly into the system folder, and i'm always having force close popup when trying to select aosp keyboard

Anyone else had any lag issues with the xperia keyboard?

Gesendet von meinem XT890 mit Tapatalk 2

Updated the first post with a revised Android JB Keyboard package, using the Google Keyboard version 1.0.1869.683049 from the Play Store.

I searched the settings of google-keyboard more then once, but couldn't find the solution to get the keys working like in the screenshot... what i mean is to get the questionmark by longpressing the m-key (for example). For me it looks like in the attachment.
Tried it with german (QWERTZ and QWERTY) and english layout
Any solutions out there?

Unlocked bootloader, tested Xperia keyboard, works perfectly, thank you so much!

I prefer swype.
At beginning it is most slow cause the dictionary is empty or have so few words but when you add and use it will be faster and very good.
But it is "your preference" in how to use

I think that Swype Keyboard, the newer version, it's better. But also the Android stock one, it's a really great app to write with

Perfect

You mean the famous update supposed to include "3D Buildings" and "Text to speech"?
That would be cool.
Installed.
Sorry, I don't like it compared to the official "2577" folder I had previously on my HD2.
This version is less complete. It does not include the useful "Quick Menu" for instance....
I think it's actually an old version. Isn't it?
Thanks for the heads up!

Don't know if its an older version or not, it seems to include more voicers, and I prefer the colour of it, dunno how you turn off the start up voice which it says u can...

The last version (once updated via CoPilot Central) was 8.0.0.557 which suggests that this .659 version is newer, not older I think.
Actually it's the old interface. The one I had cooked in when I bought my HD2.
Since Copilot has totally revamped the interface, including a better menu and also a convenient quick menu which is launched at start up.
the version posted in this thread misses many features. So it is maybe a new version for HD2, but i is old compared to the regular version available on ALK website.
No comparison.
You will find that the quick menu has only been removed as it conflicted with the Navigation Panel and other features on the HD2.
I use the Navi Panel, and before if you clicked HOME on it, it would open Copilot, but thats it. It would stop on the quick menu.
Now it loads up your home favourite, so you can just click go.
ALSO, it now works with Footprints, so you can click on the footprint coordinates and it will give you directions to it. Again, this didnt work before.
Finally, Device screen orientations now works. Before I had to set it, now it rotates to either portrait or landscape.
These are all things that didnt work for ME before.
So in all, there are a few fixes there. I also prefer the black menu, suits the HD2 more.
Thank you for these clarifications.
Never had any issue with the regular version
Text to Speech
Can anyone confirm if Text to Speech and Traffic now work with this version?
Actually, I noticed a bug with this update.
It switches on automatically the bluetooth (and of course doesn't turn it off when I leave Copilot).
Anyone else noticed it?
I spoke to ALK support and they said that the HD2 needs it's own specific update to make TTS and Traffic work.
I am hoping this is the update, but as I'm not due to drive anywhere over the next few days it would be great if someone could confirm it works.
I'll also ask ALK if this is the update they were talking about.
Many thank for the info JetMouse.
I heard that on the Iphone version the TTS was not very good, and also that you have to select a male voice to have it working (don't remember the name)...
Will try tomorrow.
Please, regarding the bluetooth, anyone also has the same problem as me (automatic switch on)?
Thanks
Just had a reply from ALK:
"This version should indeed allow you to use TTS and the Premium Services".
Will be interesting to see if it's any good!
Thanks for the update, tried it and didn't like it.
Was using the latest standard v620 one, TTS and Premium Live Services work great as it does on this current one, but I hate the black theme and I really miss the startup screen which asks me what to do.
Plus I found it to be buggy, tends to randomly crash during startup which the official standard one does not and I found the HD2 version to have very sluggish menu transitions while the standard blue themed one runs silky smooth.

I agree with this. Did not like this HD2 version neither.
The interface of the latest standard one is indeed really better....
Also I found some bugs in this new HD2 version (for instance the "More Options" button, which does not work).
Update successfull,everything works fine .

To do this go into the More Settings and then click on Sound. You should see a tick box where you can now turn off the start up sound and even the button sounds.

- visiting Google.com, Google says that there is a security problem with my browser witch send automatically requests. Then I must type some characters and confirm that I'm not a robot !!!

Do you mean the word "Lock" when the screen rotates? That is in English for me.
Thanks wxrjack for making this. It's without doubt the best browser available in my opinion.
Any chance we could get an option for turning off exit app confirmation? When a URL is launched from inside an app, and i press back button to return to that app afterwards it gets in the way always asking.

Issue here with Flash or youtube, I'm not sure: I played a youtube vid on a site, and then hit back; the video sound kept playing. I hit home, and it kept going. Eventually I hooked up to my phone using the shell access in adb, and killed the browser process manually, only then did it stop.
Works absolutely fantastically!
No more music icon which is useless for us non-chinese users, thankyou very much for this wxrjack and the rest of the Miren team (if there are anymore).
One little question though, will this be able to update from within the browser like the chinese version can when a new update comes out?
I would also be happy to add swedish to the available languages, I don't need it myself as I'm a native english speaking swede but others might apreciate it.

Couple things..
1. When you click on an address it doesn't ask if you want to launch in Google Maps like the stock browser. Instead it goes to a web based version of google maps.
2. On a site like ESPN mobile when I click to watch a video it just goes to a page that say you do not have permission to open this page. This is probably not a flash video since it's on the mobile site. Works fine in the stock browser. The stock browser opens it in the android video player.
3. Finally, any chance for adding an on demand setting for flash.
Thanks!
cool, this has been my default browser since I first downloaded it. glad to see an official english version.

maybe you will like to see these:
TouchPal Keyboard Highlights:
** TouchPal Curve **
TouchPal Curve is the next generation of swiping technology. It brings prediction to sliding. In Swype, you have to slide the complete word, and you’ll easily get lost with long words. Using the Predictive Sliding technology in TouchPal Curve, you may pause in the middle of a word to get prediction. You can slide only a very small part to finish a long word.

You need to select touchpal curve from the settings menu within the keyboard app itself. then download language list (i chose english qwerty) and then you'll be able to select curve as an option.
Beta 1 to beta 2 was a few tweasks, this version there are many changes, skin support, accuracy etc, definitely an improvement for me and ive used them all
I'm eager to try this app, but before I install can you please explain why the program requires the following access...
Your location

Your personal information

Thank you.
Does the standard touchpal keyboard skins work with curve? Also, will this (5.0) automatically replace 4.8 or do we need to uninstall 4.8 first.
And I thought Swype was good, but Curve rocks! Love this bad boy!
Edit - Never mind, went ahead and installed it. It did take a bit to get going, I had to download the language pack before I could select Curve, but love it, especially since I can use keyboard skins!

I haven't seen an official changelog but just try it lol. May not be released internationally but it works great, option to have english or chinese input so just turn off the chinese options, all keys in english etc. Works great for me, better then the market version and many more options including skin support. Use titanium to backup so if you don't like it just revert back, no big deal.

there is not a changelog from 4.8 to 5.0, because the V4.8 never release in China.

ICS Keyboard ported to work with android 1.6 and up

I have ported the IceCream Sandwich keyboard to work with most of the android devices. No root required, it will require 2.2 or higher to use speech recognition.
Link below. I am a new registered user so I can't post link, some please put the below url in a link in the next reply

App Descriptions
====================================================
ICS Keyboard is the best port of IceCream Sandwich Keyboard on the market!
ICS Keyboard - The keyboard from Android 4.0 IceCream Sandwich
This is the keyboard from Android 4.0 (codename ice cream sandwich). I back ported it to work with all android deivces 1.6 and up. Everything is working except Speech Recognition will require android 2.2 or higher.
This essentially the same IceCream Keyboard you will find in Android 4.0 but I made a few minor adjustments to it to make it work a little better. It's also a better version than some other similar IceCream Sandwich Keyboards you will find on the market, such as the port created by johntanmi or NICK ZHANG.
It's even better than the standard IceCream Sandwich keyboard:
- Compatible with most android devices
- Features that are incompatible with older phones were removed to make the keyboard faster
- Bigger Keys!
- Reduced app size by exporting non-English languages as separate downloads
- More user friendly
Enjoy!
Tips:
- Long press "Enter" key to bring up smiley alternatives
- Long press on "/" key in URL mode to bring up domains
Please report your bugs via email . If you report bugs in a Market comment I CAN'T help you.
Supported languages layout: English, French , Hebrew, Arabic, German, Czech, Bulgarian, Catalan, Spanish, Esperanto, Danish, Italian, Finnish, Georgian, Russian, Ukrainian, Latvian, Swedish,Latin, Dutch, Portuguese, Slovakian, Slovenian, Greek,Serbian, Hungarian, Swiss
Included dictionaries:
English,French,Italian,German,Spanish.

Great job, and the voice input works on this one!
A few common problems I've noticed with other ports:
1) Does the bottom row show completely on MDPI devices?
2) Locking caps lock, then pressing shift again doesn't toggle it to lower case, but typing produces lower case letters.
3) Space bar doesn't have a key preview, so when typing the feedback is broken when space doesn't popup preview when other keys do. (A Google problem, but still would be nice to get fixed).
Looks and works awesome thanks for this. only one thing smilies is not working for me otherwise definitely a better keyboard than others on the market .

The only other ICS port that works with MDPI phones right now is this one:

I have LG Optimus V, tried Johntanmi's & Nick Zhang's (at least latest version as of today), both cut off bottom space bar row in portrait mode, this one shows whole keyboard.
The update fixed the bottom bar on my desire. Thank you. Love the keyboard.
Tried version 1.2 of this keyboard and it beats all the others I've tried (johntami, nick zhang, binary bulge).
- Works on my LG Optimus V's screen (no half cut off space bar row)
- Caps-lock on & off bug free
- Supports themes
- Auto capitalizes 'i'
- Low memory footprint (6.4 MB service vs 18 MB for other ICS KBs)
- It has an app icon!
Just one minor thing I noticed, the stone themes are a bit too spaced out vertically and gets cut off at the bottom. Keep up the good work!
There's no donate or paid version of this, what's the catch? ad-supported? sharing private info? Noticed that compared to other ICS keyboards, this one requires permission:
Network communication
full Internet access
Allows an application to create network sockets.
What is that for?

Internet access is for the new version check and notification. When you open the app, the app will detects and notify you if your current version is outdated.
It won't send any personal information to anywhere.

Thanks for the quick response, I think it'd be less suspicious to drop that feature & permission request. Probably would speed up loading the app & use less memory too. Android Market already handles notifiying & updates and the user can control all of that at one place, including allowing background data.
vllwp, thanks for this port! Just noticed a few quirks:
1) I have sound on keypress enabled, and for some reason it sounds more quiet than every other keyboard I have (including the other ICS keyboards).
2) When I long press the smiley button, it selects whatever is on the upper left of where my finger actually is. So, it is currently not possible for me to select any of the 3 rightmost smileys which are :'( :-$ and . By the way, I find these smileys very ugly. Is there a way we can edit the selection?
Can somebody post the apk. PLease thanks+
Can u add options for "no fullscreen in landscape mode"?

+1 for this request to drop the network access permission, that's what's stopping me from trying it, cheers

[APP][2.1+][Optimized 4.0+] WordLookup - Not your average dictionary tool!

The ability to select text and sharing it seems to be rare in apps for pre-Honeycomb Android versions, so this may be a problem. This app will have limited functionality in those Android versions.
Hey xda developpers,
Here's my shot at my second ad-free app, WordLookup !

What is it?
Many of you have probably heard of the popular Google Dictionary extension for Google Chrome, which allows you to double click any word on a web page to view its definition. I have found this feature indispensable to my web browsing.
Of course, it's not possible to implement something like this in Android just yet, but this app tries to imitate its functionality. There's no need to open another dictionary app to find definitions anymore!
WordLookup allows you to view word definitions easily as you browse the web, and when using apps. It does require an Internet connection to work, however.
Simply hold&select the word you wish to look up, share it with WordLookup and a small notification popup will show a few definitions for the word! It's that simple!
Here's how to use it:
1- Hold and select the word you'd like to get the definitions.
2- Select the Share button in the menu/Action Bar.
3- Share text to WordLookup.
4- The definitions should show up in a bit as a popup(Toast) notification.
Supported Apps:
-ICS Android Browser
-Google Chrome
-ICS Gmail and Email app
-Pulse
-Many,many others. More will be added in this list.
Right now, this app is only tested on Android 4.0 - Ice Cream Sandwich, as many apps on earlier versions of Android do not support sharing text, your mileage may vary, though. Some parts of the program are still very rough, as this is still a beta.
Upcoming features includes offline dictionaries, and more!
Technical stuff in a nutshell:
This app gets the shared text via an intent and uses the Knicker library to fetch definitions from Wordnik (thanks to their nifty API). It then sends the definitions to a custom Toast pop-up, which is displayed on the bottom of the screen.

Dammnn, finally i dont need to copy paste the word anymore into some dictionnary web site
This looks like an awesome idea. Would it be possible to auto detect non-English words and auto-translate selected words using Google Translate? Thanks!

That is coming in a future version! Right now, it's mostly a proof-of-concept. Is the app working fine on your phone, however?
Can anyone with a Gingerbread, or previous version of Android confirm if this app works in these versions?
Thanks

Just released a new version on Google Play that should fix these crashes, as well as implementing the native Toast look, and other fixes. Let me know if it works well now!
Question, is it better to use a Toast notification, like now, or switch to a dialog box, which offers more optimization at the expense of more obtrusiveness?

It already exists! And thanks for the feedback there.
This is a cool idea, but it doesn't really function on my GB TB because the option to share text is limited (as you stated). Still, I'll be following this to see where it goes and I'll definitely give it a spin once I upgrade!
Keep up the work c:
-And a suggestion-
Do you think it would be possible to create an offline version as well and have the word lookups routed through a database in your app instead of online?
I know I'm connected to the internet via wifi and it won't connect... HTC thunderbolt on sfk almost sense 4.0/gingerbread. I could share it and everything though

Hey Meso,
Unfortunately, the limitations on GB seems to be a hard one and cannot be fixed unless the app developer(in the case of the browser, Google) updates it to add sharing, or possibly added into a ROM or something.
And an offline version are upcoming as well, once some flaws with the app gets nailed out. I'm also thinking of using Bing's traslation service to deliver translations in a future version, as well.

Hey,
That's weird, but I may know why, will try to fix it in the next update. I am rather busy these days so you will have to be patient
Meanwhile, try to go on wordnik.com via your phone. It may have been blocked for some reason. Let me know if it works or not.
Just released 0.1.2beta which includes a few buxfixes and also allows me to better identify problems(let me know if you still encounter the problem, Atamagaokashii)
Just released 0.1.5beta:
Changelog:
-Added a loading screen while definition is loading
-optimizations

Much better! Love it! I've been waiting for something like this for awhile. Is it possible in the next update to be able to choose or have options for where it.pulls a definition from?

I'll definitively look into it! The Wordnik API does support pulling from Wikitionary, Webster, etc. It's possible to set this from an option. Glad this app is useful for you!
Really nice icechen1, thank you! :good:

Since I didn't find anything, I developped my own app called CopySearch. I can't post link, but there is a thread presenting it on xda.
At the end, our 2 apps are totally different, which is fun:
same user needs + 2 different developpers = 2 apps that have nothing in common
keep going!
