[Q] Internal Memory Issue, Using Link2SD [Rooted] - HTC Pico (Explorer)

Please Read it all, It may be looking lengthy BUT I NEED YOUR HELP !!!
It's my first day on XDA, SORRY FOR NOT POSTING SCREENSHOT, but one can understand it easily (maybe!!!)
Hello Friends,
I am new here and don't know anything about Android Development.
I just started tweaking my HTC Explorer with the clean steps of rooting (everything seems to be quite perfect), i have rooted it successfully and I was not willing to use custom ROM so sticked to the stock one. :good:
After that:
1. Partitioned my freshly formatted 8GB sd to create a 1GB ext partition FAT32 for linking internal apps to it.
2. Put it (the sd) into my phone.
3. Installed Link2SD 2.3 from Google Play.
4. Opened it.
5. "Allowed" superuser permission.
6. Selected "FAT32/FAT16" from a menu asking for "Select the file system of your sdcard's second partition".
7. Rebooted my phone !!!
8. Configured Link2SD - Enabled 'Auto Link' and choose 'Automatic' in "Install Location".
9. Again Rebooted my phone !!!
10. Installed "Root Uninstaller"
11. Unistalled some craps such as "Asphalt 6 Adrenaline, UNO, Bollywood Hungama, Pro Cricket, Saavn, NDTV, NDTV Cricket, etc."
12. Installed the apps which i used previously before rooting such as "Xplore, MX Player, Poweramp, Smart Office, Lucky Patcher, etc. (nearly 16 apps).
13. After installing each apps I could see Link2SD notification like "Xplore has been linked to sd successfully".
14. Rebooted !!! (Again)
15. In a urge of installing more apps (games probably), Once again met with LOW INTERNAL MEMORY PROBLEM
16. Without thinking of anything else; Installed AppMgr III (App2SD).
17. Opened it and found a vast list of movable apps.
18. Selected all, moved to sd.
19. Got to see an increase in internal memory (60MB free).
20. Then I thought, if the apps are needed to be moved to sd again then what for i have partitioned my sd card giving valuable 1GB of space to it.
21. I thought, maybe i have done something wrong.
22. Opened Link2SD, i could see there, the apps are on sd. Example: Xplore [on sdcard], which previously was: Xplore [linked->sd].
23. My mind turned up, and
24. I uninstalled all the apps, excluding Link2SD and Superuser.
25. Reeeebbbbboooootttteeedddd !!!! Ooooohhhhh.
26. Rebooting the phone this time took some extra time and,
27. All of the uninstalled apps were Installed again
28. Uninstalled them all again.
29. Opened Link2SD,
30. Cleared "Dalvik cache"
31. Cleared "Second partition"
32. Cleared "All cache"
33. Closed Link2SD
34. Uninstalled Link2SD too.
35. Restarted my phone again (Yes its true)
36. Installed Link2SD.
37. Configured it now,- Enabled 'Auto Link' and choose 'External' in "Install Location.
38. Rebooted again..
39. Begin installing the previous apps and here the problem begins...:cyclops:
40. Installed 2-3 apps successfully,
41. Begin to install "Poweramp" (latest version), got a message by installer to choose from "Make more space by clearing some memory" or "Cancel".
42. What the hell was that ?? , I checked my internal memory, it was 98 MB free, 2nd partition of sdcard was ~900 MB free, sdcard itself was 2 GB free of 6.4GB.
43. Tried to install a game and it was successfully installed.
44. Tried to install "C4Droid" again the low memory problem reappears.
45. Cannot understand what to do...

I can understand your problems but I ll suggest you the following
Backup all your apps using any backup app like titanium backup. Most important.
Stock ROM has only FAT32 support... if you flash a stock based custom ROM ( if you are in for the stock experience ) then I think you will be in for a better experience .I am suggesting you this cause it will be easier and less time consuming for you.
Custom ROMs and kernels have ext 2 , 3 ,4 support which will help you launch apps faster than a FAT32 partition and there will be less hassles as there are many many scripts like S2e , int2ext+ , mount2sd .
ICS ROMs also give a very good performance and are relatively bug free.
Link2sd to be frank is very buggy. The above mentioned scripts are wayy better.
I am suggesting you this
1) cause stock ROM needs to be modified appropriately to have a good gaming experience and since you are already rooted you can try all this. Try jaggyROM , Ateeqs ROM etc for a good stock based Custom ROM experience.
2) Its painful to the eyes to read so much and the colour doesnt help ( at least for me ).
3) Nevermind

After making this post in this evening,
I formatted my sdcard and merged the partitions, uninstalled the link2sd and rebooted my phone.
I recalled that the applications which were claiming Low Memory Issue like "Poweramp, MX Player, c4droid, etc. " were the one which I have patched by lucky patcher.
I confirmed it by trying to install all the apps which I have patched.
I was correct, all of them claimed low memory issue.
Then I reinstalled Lucky patcher (latest one) v2.9.6 and opened it.
As soon as I opened it, got a notification from lucky patcher which was saying something like "removing the unused ODEX ~ something blah blah "
And then again I tried to install all the patched apps... Thank God they all were installed correctly.
Now I am enjoying my rooted machine by sacrificing Link2sd rather using titanium backup to move all apps to sd.
Thanks God, thanks XDA and my friends.
My journey on XDA starts here....

dear developer,
thank u for posting ur valueble thread with time,dont worry the problem is very common i had too faced the same many tyms for getting successesive result so let me tell u if r using kitkat version or any android it may occur but it in kitkat it will occurs always becoz kitkat doesnt provide the read write permission automatically which we had before but this is a little hard job some tyms to gain the actual sd-ext2 access from link2sd sometyms it moves apps but after rebooting u will get it back or may not,and even some tyms u can have it linked with proper sd-ext2 space mount ,many times u will be able to get all ur linked apps from doing quick boot not reboot lil bit difference is that quick boot,boots the user interface only nott the whole system n everytym if u want to get back ur invisible apps u have to take quick reboot after every reboot system so its a problem in the process what we are doing there is something missing called as read write permissions so i m telling u how to get rid off from improper installation of sd-ext2 part mounting the above told story is all about the improper installation now check what u should do for proper linking apps to sd cards;;;
#u need to have root access obvious
#u have to install rom manager ,rom installer and rom toolbox rootbrowser
#but all the same things u will get in the only 1 app which is rom tool box but i recommend do all installs
#then explore ur browser i.e root browser make change to r/w from ro{read/write frm read only coz u dont have writing permission from the system}
#ok fine then install busybox installer from playstore and install busybox from it and after the successvice installation in the busybox installer app check scripts option make it to read write or say r/w from it to set to boot and run that script fine now u r almost finished ur gud job and reboot fon
but for unexpected error try to make same changes in the rom toolbox app scripters option set the script to boot with r/w and save/run
finished ur difficulty almost
#then install link2sd and it must ask superuser to access thn the app prompt u for describing the second partition just check it what typ of partition u made if u r using more than 4gb sd card make ext 4 that if it isnt worked try others ext2 3/4 ok
by checking ext4 in my case it would recommend to reboot and plz reboot ur fon as prompted ok
#then start using ur second partition as increased volume for apps and after linking u will get the symbol linked>to sd at the end of every linked app thts the sign of correct linking
if u dont get plz try the above things with ur common sense what u need to change or what u forgot before the only goal is to obtain that symbol linked to sd if u have got without this so y r u burning ur mind its perfect and if not check and change ur link2sd versions thats too important which link2sd works with ur fon and last but not the least its recommended to format again ur card n partition to make it error free also u r using link2sd so all apps will go to second partiton dont move apps to sd it will be increasing ur used space on 1st partition making unused second partition i.e unchanged which is a problm too so be perfect in ur work make backups u may or maynot need to install factory reset wipes data etc so be careful n keep patience dont stop any process in anychanges in root previleges it may brick fon but dont worry its a precaution only, most important only r/w permission n gud version of link2sd n rest u have already did before this fon n u r a developer thats ur job now try to help ur self have fun............
:good::good::good::good:
my fon=micromax unite 2 having kitkat android 4.4
working very cool....

Low memory

I'm running the **SMS* 3.02 by RSK team on my HTC Desire, the rom works great (I wanted the Amaze Cam) but I seem to run out of internal memory really quickly, ROM has only been on (again) for a week and I'm down to 25mb, all apps have been moved to SD.
I do have quite a few apps installed, but surely being on SD internal memory should be empty. The phone has a 16Gb SD card with a 2Gb ext partition created through recovery.
How to I get the memory back? I suspect it's going to be full in a day or 2, leading me to another full wipe
What i did to make more mem is using ''ram manager'' on the market and kill apps running in the background.
Thanks, I'm not sure how killing running apps is going to free phone storage space, though
I suspect I need to find a data2sd rom, ideally with the new cam
getting closer, I notice my Dalvik cache is ~170Mb, so taking up all that space. I installed 2 market apps to move it, the first, S2E just does nothing when IO tell it to move the cache. The second, a2sdgui, exits with the following message
"cannot start for one of these reasons
1. your phone is not rooted (it obviously is to be running custom roms?)
2. A2SD scripts could not be found o
3. No EXT partition found
Did you create a partition on your SD CARD? Does your custom rom support APP2SD (normally is natively included)?
Make sure.
Otherwise, I would suggest to try another rom to see what happen.

Don't assume that because you are running a custom ROM means your phone is rooted - the 2 have absolutely nothing to do with each other. Check that you have superuser installed, and if you do run terminal emulator and type the command su. If you're rooted you should get asked if you want to allow superuser privileges to the app. If it doesn't ask then either you've allowed (and remembered) the permission before or you're not rooted.
If an app's telling you you're not rooted then it's possibly right - always good to be sure.
Thanks, phone definitely rooted, and superuser installed (and titanium backup, which I've just used)
can't see mention of apps2sd on the rom page, though I was running a pretty old version.
Decided to do a full wipe, repartition the SD card and install a later version which has dalvik-cache to sd-ext, hopefully this will solve the problem of it filling.
Showing 174MB free right now, (+8.6Gb)
I take it if the cache does fill again I can just wipe it with no ill effects?
I wipe all my cache periodically with this:
https://market.android.com/details?...sMSwxLDEwMiwiY29tLmFhYy5jYWNoZW1hdGUuZGVtbyJd
I normally free up to 20 MB.

Using Link2SD Most effectively for Android Phones

In this article I will be describing the usage of Link2SD most effectively for android devices running 2.2 or higher or Custom ROMs.
[Note: Your Device MUST be Rooted and have Link2SD installed with a partitioned SD Card. If not Rooted, you may visit my page on Rooting and Partitioning using the link.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=37849627#post37849627
Rooting and Partitioning is Universal and can be done almost all the Android Devices using the same way but by using only the right update.zip meant for the particular Device.
Have you installed Link2SD after doing partition, but still are not able to free up enough space? The reason for this problem is that even after you link the application to SD, some portion of the app, remains on the Internal Memory. These files are called DEX files which occupy space in the Dalvik cache of the Internal Memory.
In this Guide I will be teaching you how to move most of the portion of the Application to the SD Card.

There are basically two types of apps. First those which phone memory only, i.e. can’t be moved to external storage without using third party applications. Such as WhatsApp, widgets, Anti-Viruses etc. To move these apps, Simply Select the app and Create Link. Then tick all the three options of Link Apk file, Link Dalvik-Cache files and Link Lib files. Now these apps will be moved to the partitioned storage without affecting their working. (Only a small portion may remain on the Internal memory which cannot be moved and is necessary for the proper working of app.)
The second category is of the apps which can be moved to SD. But Sometimes the problem with these applications is that not the whole part of the Application is stored on the SD card. Some portion remains on the internal storage which maybe annoying because even after Linking these apps nothing happens, instead they occupy even more space on the internal memory.
Now let us begin with the procedure.
1. Install Link2SD.
2. Open Link to SD. Filter the apps which are on Phone Memory only.
3. Select them all and Link them to SD using Create Link. Remember to tick all the 3 options- Link apk files, Link Dalvik (DEX) files & Link Lib files before creating the Link. This should free a lot of space.
4. Now Filter the apps on SD cards. Sort them in the order of Dex Size
5. You will find the culprit apps accused of stealing your precious internal storage.
6. The Dex Size indicates the size the app has been occupying on the internal storage.
7. Now Multi-Select the apps (5-10 at a time, because the whole apps will be moved to internal memory first before being transferred to the SD Card.), Select Actions -> Create Link. Select only Link Dalvik-cache files.
8. First the applications will be moved to SD, then Linked. It will take a minute or so.
9. After they are linked, It will take some time before it shows free internal storage.
10. Similarly do the same for all the other apps which acquire considerable amount of space.
By this method, you will get a lot of free space.
Want to free up even more?
Almost all the devices come with pre-installed Bloat ware, i.e. programs that are hardly use but occupy unnecessary space on the phone memory. Moving them to SD is a good option.
IMPORTANT: Do not uninstall or move system apps which are important for proper functioning of the system. You may end up damaging your device. It is recommended to make a backup of Current ROM using CWM.
The following system apps have been removed by me which do not cause any instability to the system but free up a lot of space.
1. Quickoffice
2. Email
3 Google Maps
If you use these apps, you may consider another option, i.e. converting these apps to user apps. This won’t affect in the functioning of the programs.
1. Select the app in Link2SD.
2. From options, select convert to user app.
3. Now the app will be moved to SD card but will occupy space on internal Memory.
4. Follow the above instructions of Link Dalvik-Cache and moving to SD using App2SD.
5. You are done! You must have freed a lot of space. Now you may start installing New Apps without giving a thought about your internal storage!
You can also free some more space( if occupied) by the following Methods:
1. Clearing the App Cache using App2SD or Link2SD.
2. Clearing the Dalvik-Cache using Link2SD. Link2SD->Options->more->Clear Dalvik Cache.
HIT THANKS IF MY POST HELPED YOU
Remember: Some apps may stop functioning or may Force Close. To fix this problem Re-install the app using Link2SD. :good::highfive:

I've noticed that moving via apps2sd uses internal for dex and libs, they have to be linked in order to save space.
Go to linked, multiselect and choose create links.I have to do this lately after every reboot as it leaves some files unlinked and some uninstalled alltogether!.
I got problem after move installed apps when i create link for it. The apps cannot open and when i remove link, the apps still can't open.
Please find the solution for it.

Link those huge data files? Yes you can. Use directory bind / folder mount.
Paradox ST21i
Thanks. I followed the steps but unfortunately the apps still occupy space on the internal memory. e.g. I have 3 apps -
1. Google Play services
2. Titanium backup
3. Maps
After creating a link, these apps still show up on internal memory using 12.25 MB, 12.92MB and 8.28 MB memory respectively. No effect at all. I have followed the exact steps. If i move them to SD card, it frees up some space but i believe that is not what is recommended?
Need someone's help to fix it. I have searched internet and they all talk about the same steps but does not seems to work. My phone is samsung ace S5830.

apk stays on phone memory
I've observed if I link only the Dex files, the apks stay on the internal memory instead of sd card. I could find them in /data/apk folder. Is this normal, or am I doing something wrong? :fingers-crossed: :silly:
I have rooted my Micromax A 57 and installed custom ROM, the system is working fine, but the only issue is that, I am unable to download apps from Playstore as my cache memory shows only 15% free, I tried link2sd with extended partition, but am unable to clear the cache, before rooting it was something 90% free.
Can some one help me out
Thanks & Regards
Nilesh
Yes it works
it freed my phone from 68 to 258
awesome
Truly awesome idea zaeem
Moving the dex files work.
And if using backup sw, kindly uncheck the auto link option from link2sd. As manually moving frees more space

Link2SD Method & Problem Fixes
I've tried this method twice. I've got it working somewhat.
For the guy who said it took up his space, you've got to go into Link2SD & set the path correctly to your EXT4 2nd SD card partition. For example mine was '/storage/sdext2' for the EXT4 partiton and '/storage/extSDCard' for the fat32/exfat or whatever.
It will move some apps, but my problem is this. When I try to move "System Apps" or even some regular apps like SoundForge that said unmovable for some reason. It would disappear on reboot. I did the "Create/re-create bootup scripts" the "quick reboot user interface" all that. Out of almost 200 apps it said only 42 were moveable...they'll all show up but the whole purpose is to remove bloatware & stuff too that you may still want to use sometime via ur SD cards 2nd EXT4 partition.
After flashing a new ROM on my Note 2 SGH-T889 I was told to erase my partitions & re-partition. I've tried that still with no luck. I still can't move apps like "SoundForge" listed as unmovable without it disappearing on Reboot.
I've set SuperSU to allow su/root on boot. It mounts the ext4 correctly, still can't for the life of me get it working fully. I'm using the Ditto DN3 Hybrid S5/Note 3 ROM.
Do you guys know if maybe I have to install another Kernel or something for this to work?
I haven't found a solution to get the apps to stop disappearing on Reboot yet. Any help would be great on that note!!!
Thanks guys, & good luck!

In my case, unlinking internal data (or just linking internal data) solved the issue.

[Q] no internal space after installing rom

Need help and can't post in the thread required because i'm new. I installed explorerman's rom xenon system http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2048312 which installs great but after install and rebooting several times I still have an internal storage issue. I have a 32gig SD partitioned with a 4gig ext3 partition, when the rom boots I get an error about internal storage then I get an error about the m2sd app saying the script is either missing or out of date. I follow the instructions and update through m2sd then, after a few minutes reboot the phone. Next it still say's the internal memory is full, 1mb free and m2sd still showing errors with no data moved to the sd-ext. I tried a 4gig sd card with a 1 gig ext3 partition but still the same problem.
I am doing as said and wiping dalvik cache etc. I have a backup of the ONLY rom that works which is based on android 4.03 but I want the original setup back on the phone so any help needed and please, no stupid comments or immature comments as I have seen from some posts here. i'm not a child but at the same time I am not a tech-head, thanks.

I wouldn't know how to, I just trust the developer and since the rom does everything I wouldn't know where to look. the last time I tried editing a rom zip, it wouldn't install because it didn't match the original signature of the zip file. Also, because I am a new forum user, I can't contact the developer directly for some help.
Make 1 gb partition(Enough)! As the script uses 100mb of internal for every 500mb sd-ext....so making 3gb is useless.
Plus while configuring the app disable safe mode and see if that helps

Will try that, thankyou
Nope, didn't work, wiped the SD card and made a 1gig ext3 partition, also disabled safe-mode as suggested, still loads EVERYTHING to internal memory with 1mb left, it also comes up with a busybox error and a script error on first boot. I went into M2SD and set apps, data and delvik to use the sd-ext partiotn and waited, nothing, so rebooted the phone, nothing. All with the same message of 'The current status does not match your settings for this option' under Applications, Data and Delvik Cache, also 'Could not set the sdcard readahead' which is set to 512 as default.

try this
use INT2EXT
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1716124
download the zip file and open it file manager using mobile (root explorer..)(set r/w permission) then find init.d folder inside INT2EXT script copy and put it into
system->etc-> init.d
paste it..
then reboot
Seems like a nand burn flash mimicm9 and see internal memory and tell without any scripts

Why you don't install cm10.1 beta 3. Its great and cool and stable to. Based on 4.2.2. Android os install link2sd and make both partition of fat32 by mini tool and don I have this problems when install the ROM you have then after I do this I have 8 GB SD card 1 GB fat 32 partition and other for data. Alls going good smooth stable. And a have 43 app installed on my pico and remaining internal memory showing 87 mb my good suggestion is to change ROM .
And give a time to the developers of (explorerman's rom xenon system) to make the ROM best
sent from my HTC explorer having ROM cm10.1 beta 3.
using xda app the best developers site for android

Did all that, I always do a complete clean of the phone before I try anything but still not working. I think, because it was a T Mobile HTC Explorer rather than a generic one that there is something hard coded into it. I see through the forums so many people having no problems at all but they have generic phones rather than unlocked phones from service providers. I am not a programmer so this is just guess work and from experience, I can't even restore the phone using an RUU because it will only accept a T-Mob one. If there a way to replace the entire software on the phone then I would but it's programmed into the chips at factory level (low level) since the phone was produced by HTC for T-Mobile. If the phone had been bought directly from HTC then there would be less problems. So far, I haven't found a single rom that doesn't have some kind of problem with this phone.
Thanks for all the suggestions but I'm guessing it's time to 'pick a window' for it and just save up for a more modern phone than trying to keep this HTC Pensioner going.

[Q] HISENSE HS-U970 Custom rom 4.3

I have a HISENSE HS-U970
Phone look good, but here is the problem out of the 4GB internal storage , there is only 200mb available to install app's , the phone ROM is a mess they have created 3 partition out of the 4GB, and only allow app to be installed on the primary partition which has only 200mb of storage out of the 1GB ,the other partition are reserved for music and photo files. What a way to ruin a phone.....
You cannot move apps to SD card. So severe limitation
I have been scouring the internetfor days for a custom rom which will remove these limitations and allow me to install apps to SD card just like other devices. But i have found none so far
Does someone know a custom rom that i could install to actually enjoy using this phone? i am close to smashing it with a hammer
I am never buying any android Chinese based phone ever..
Appreciate any reply
I remember the days you could ask a questions in this forum and get some answers, these days most posts goes unanswered very sad days.
If your rooted Foldermount would serve you well. A lot of people use Link2sd which I tried but didn't work for me.

Link2sd
i think the best solution for your problem is as follows:
(u should have root to perform these steps)
1.download and install Link2sd from google play (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.buak.Link2SD&hl=en)
2.go to the app you want to move to your sd card (u can use the search button)
3.tap "Move to SD card" if that fails and its a system app u can tap actions then select "Convert to user app" then tap "move to sd card"
For CWM and custom ROMs for this device go to this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2588130
btw i have the same phone and its great

Just install an app called Framaroot, and choose one of the options, if one fails, choose the other one.(that's how I rooted my Hisense U970, so it will most probably work for you).
PS: Sorry for the late reply

Dalvik cache-too much space

Hello. I have honor 4c. At the beginning I had android 5 rooted phone but there wasnt any problem. After updating to marshmallow and rerooting I have problem with storage. When I wipe dalvik cache and reboot phone, recreated dalvik cache have 800MB. After few days I have internal storage totally full(100%). I dont understand. Everything is OK, dalvik cache takes the same storage but during one night I have full storage.... When I whake up there is notification that the storage is full. Can anyone help me? I dont want to delete that regularly as it takes more time to load all apps.

<<<<< phone mast be rooted>>>>>>
1- sd card class 10 (for beter read & write)

3-using apps2sd all in one to creat mount script of the 2nd partition
4-move apps to sd card

How to remove space from your android
requirements
Require to have any version of mm
Requires Root and root explorer
Tutorial
Vamos to go to our file application and we will clean our phone as seen on the first image.
Despired to do the above checks how much you have internally in my case I had 84? after doing that, so that you see if it works.
- we will go to root explorer and look for the system folder and open the build. Pro and this, until the end we will add the following line as
dalvik.vm.dex2oat-filter = interpret-only
Save Changes
We went back to the root and looked for the data folder and opened
We go to dalvík cache and we first open the arm folder and delete that
System @ [email protected]
System @ [email protected]
-open the folder arm64 and delete the same thing
- in this part comes the most important we go back to the root and we open data and then the app folder
- in this folder you will find all our apps installed, we open one by one and we will delete the folder bat(oat)
After removing all the bat(oat) files from all our apps, we left the super-Root Explorer and checked our space and we'll have more room.
Every time you install an app, you only enter the root explorer and delete the bat folder of this application to continue to free
