I think it has to do with the stock gallery. I remember having an issue when I was on clean ROM. Luckily I am now running liquid so I don't have that issue. I would suggest using a third party app. I did a quick search and saw a few gif viewers and one called gifboom that can make and send gifs. It can't hurt to try.

Thanks for responding. I ended up going back to stock, and lol I was able to send and receive gif messages. I rooted again and installed recovery, but I did not flash any roms. I remained on the stock rom(with root). I can still send and receive .gif messages. Its probably something that's being broken in stock roms, but because no one really uses it, no ones reported it. So unfortunately the devs aren't made aware. I'm working on my own rom anyway. I wont miss this problem lol

Stock evo mms.apk

I have seen a lot of people that need The stock messing for the evo whether it be for whatever reason so here it is for the people that need it http://www.2shared.com/file/xa3mCde3/_online.html

Thank you for the file. I'm not saying installing or flashing this file won't work. When I have tried to use the mms.apk from another rom or phone, many times I've gotten force closes for some unknown reasons. There has been a couple of times that it actually worked without problems. Another option could be is using a third party mms/sms app like handcent or chomp. I don't know if they piggy back the stock sms program to work or not. I've read they do but I don't know how truthful that statement is. Yes, alternative programs are much larger than stock, but I'm saying it just "might" work too. To anyone trying this, good luck and I hope it works out for you.
It piggy backs for picture mail

[Q] mms issue. People can't receive my pics

I am running the infused 1.5.3 rom and go sms. When I try to send a picture to my friend who has the exact phone I do and also my wife who has the iphone 4. They are both receiving this message
"Your phone is not compatible with this message type or size. Portions of this message will not be displayed."
Yet pics I send to my friend who has verizon go just fine. Is there some setting I'm missing? Thanks in advance.

Have you tried sending the message through the stock messaging app?

My friend with his infuse can send me pics and I can get pics from my wifes iphone 4 when she sends them as well but they can't get mine.

does your phone ask you if you would like to resize them when you try and send...if so are you selecting yes
are there any other changes that you have made like:
freezing thesms/mms app
using a different sms app
etc etc
and then the same goes for their end...
have they made any changes, do they receive pics from others and only not yours

I am using go sms and I've tried stock sms. I haven't froze any sms apps. It doesn't ask me to resize, just the usual compressing or resizing message it normally gives without prompting for a user response. My friends infuse is stock and not rooted and my wifes iphone 4 is jailbroken but nothing has changed anytime recently with it. The apps I have frozen is just media hub. Yes they can receive pics from others and send them as well.
Edit: I have media hub, maps, and news & weather frozen.
Actually it just reads "converting to multimedia message" no prompt for anything. Very frustrating as to why mainly verizon people are getting my pics and not others. Thats how it seems anyway.
As far as trying to send pics that I actually took with my phone then forget about it. Longest I've had it sit is about 15 minutes before I get pissed and just delete the send. Those stay stuck on "sending" and never go anywhere.

Anyone have any ideas? Maybe I'm missing some kind of setting after flashing infused

I use handcent...in the settings there is an option of "max mms message size limit"
I believe you want that to be 2mb...anything over that will not send to some phones.
that has been the only instance where some people did not receive my msgs.
Have you tried on wifi and network? I have not noticed the issue on att, but on sprint you could not send or receive mms while on wifi
those are the only things I can think of

I do currently have it set to 4g 5M for the photo size. I could give that a shot. Still odd that it would not send to my friends infuse I have tried wifi and att network and home I have the 3g microcell which is NOT worth the $200. I'm kinda pissed I bought it.
If you want full bars yet calls cut in and out and you want to resend each text about 4 times cause they will instantly fail (happens no where but when I'm connected to microcell) then pick one up lol
But yea the mms issue happens elsewhere as well.

I kept the size the same for now but unchecked preserve image size and now it seems the pics send. Yesterday it would be stuck on sending. I can only test with people at work. The ones with issues are asleep right now. Hopefully that or the 2m image size fixes the issue

[APP][ICS] AOSP MMS Confirmed Working!!!!!!!

Been emailing the dev back and fourth for a week or so and he JUST put it on the market not 20 minutes ago.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.concentriclivers.mms.com.android.mms
ENJOY!!!
(You have to delete your old mms, or rename it to mms.apk.bak, or you will recieve texts twice!)
Everything else seems to work perfectly.
UPDATE 4/8: MMS fixed. FC on self picture click check market for the update. Dev is touring europe for a few weeks so there probably wont be any other updates for a bit :[
If you guys really appreciate this I reccomend donating to the dev, his paypal email is in the description in the store. For all the people who had the FC issue when deleting thread or the new MMS app where the silly attachment and send button were switched and it drove you crazy.

Awesome!
Or what you can do is in the Applications menu, disable the old MMS. It's like freezing it. Just built into the OS. I think I'm starting to like ICS more and more...

Might need to edit the apk's XML's to match the stock messaging app to fix that. Don't have my computer right now, so I can't do it myself, but when I was messing around on an Epic, that's what we have to do to prevent that.

Saw this in your other thread, thanks for the info. It'd be better with working mms.
still same thing..
i NEED mms, but other than that works great here
So far everything has worked great for me.. haven't had a single FC. I also have it as a system app.

If so the solution may be to make a system app. will try now.
Edit, nope no change for me.
Great find man already popped it into the system/app and it runs great no fc but is there a way to make the new message icon come up on the lockscreen like the old mms did?

This is from the app's description in the play store:
* Removed some stuff about "date sent", which was causing crashes. Samsung's lame SMS app doesn't have this field in the database. I could potentially add it though. But it is not a critical feature so I just disabled it.
* There's stuff about DRM (Digital Rights Management) in the code. I presume this is for copy protected MMSs? Does anyone even use MMSs? Anyway I haven't tested anything to do with MMSs or DRM and there's a good chance the app will crash if it has to deal with any of that stuff.

MMS Issues - CM9/AOKP/OS Also Senseless

I have an issue with MMS messages on CM9/AOKP/OS and have not been able to find an answer.
So the issue is back and forth. If i send a pic via mms sometimes the recipient receives a blank message (no pic). Sometimes when i receive an MMS it is also blank.
This has happened on every nightly and every kernal combo i tried.
This also happens on senseless roms (HNS 3.3) so maybe its the stock mms app. I just want to make sure its a tmobile issue and not my phone. If i use another mms app it works but not the receiving part. And with other mms apps i cannot attach pics from picasa directly...
Ive attached a screen so you see what i mean..
i have the same problem using the stock messaging app and on tmobile, im using HNS 3.3 and the pictures send fine but i cant receive, just shows the same thing as you.. i've always used gosms though and i can send and receive pictures without a problem
Yeah it's a known issue on Virtuous, so I use handcent and it solves the issue.

MMS on official LP

so looks like VZW has left out or over looked (not like they didnt take their time on this update) to include the required MmsService.apk
Without this some, if not a lot of third party SMS apps will not send MMS, Google's hangout and Google's messenger app for example.
By installing this, flash it, extract it, or just install the APK. (if you dont have root this is the only way) This WILL fix the issue

I bet VZW issues a small OTA to fix this...
I am using it on Tmo - Installed it as an APK and tried sending MMS with Hangouts, native HTC app and Textra all with no success

Believe me...I do too, however with the stock sms app if a group message come in, clicking the notification take you to the individual sms thread for the person that sent the text, not the group chat, which in of itself was enough to drive me crazy.

From my understanding LP on vzw took away the ability to edit the apns which I would imagine you had to change to get all the tmo stuff working.

Oddly enough I had to set up nothing on 4.4.4, it just worked once I have it on HSPA mode instead of LTE/CDMA
I'm stock and rooted while my wife's is stock. We both upgraded to Lollipop and was/is using Textra before the upgrade and continue to use it without an issue. I've sent and received MMS without hiccups.
Are we odd ones out or is there some bug that I'm not experiencing and could possibly find a fix on my phone to share with everyone?
