Hi all.
I've been noticing something when I click youtube links on my GS3: It never opens the YouTube app. It always goes to the youtube mobile webpage.
I also noticed that when I reset the app preferences on the phone through the Settings and tried to re-open a YouTube link, the option for the YouTube app was not available in the list of “Complete action using”.
When I tried googling for a good hour or so last night, I didn’t find much help beyond the things I already mentioned above. I’ve uninstalled, reinstalled and updated the YouTube app as recently as this morning (Eastern Time), but to no avail. And the few threads on this on xda didn’t really offer much insight so far. Would any of you happen to know about this? Is this a thing that can be fixed? Thanks in advance.

Try seeing if you can scroll the "complete action using" box to display additional choices.
I seem to recall that it's not real obvious that the box scrolls if there are more then choices then will display at one time. YouTube is likely to be last.
Just a wild guess on my part...
@AJavaGuy
I did attempt that. It was a no-go.
I'll only bump this once. Maybe it's just a thing that got disabled or something...

First off, two things. Thanks to the folks who replied last night about my two-step Google auth issue. You were spot on.
Second, these forums are great and thanks to those who built them up. The "instant search" of your subject line is amazing. I've canceled two posts just based on that.
So, I've got one I can't seem to sort. I'm a big Amazon guy, for general shopping, MP3s, and EC2. I've attempted to install two or three different Amazon apps (basic, MP3, etc) and when I click one of the apps in the Market, I'm getting a "Sorry, details page for the requested item could not be found." Any ideas?
To be honest, I have searched on a few other items, but not the error message. I'll do that now, but thanks in advance if you have any insight.
Just an FYI, I searched on the error message (shortened) and can't seem to find much, and I also have been able to install other apps successfully (non-Google/native).
Try installing from the web at market.android.com I will say that the basic Amazon app will not install on Honeycomb (shows as not avail, not sure why)

Just a follow up, it seems some other folks are getting this error message on various app installs.
But to naturefreak85, I will try your recommendation and let you know. Thanks!
Thanks, Nature. I was able to install the MP3 app from the web (and it works)...the general Amazon app tells me it's already installed, but I sure as hell can't find it.
I'm on my way...thanks.

Ok so some friendly advice. If your tablet can see some apps and not others that are definitely in the market, it more than likely means the apps aren't compatible for some reason, so incompatible that Google's decided to make it so they can't be installed into tablets from the market. Sure you can sideload and they may work, but just understand that if you get a ton of FCs on the device from unrelated stuff down the road you realize that the culprit could be these forced apps. So, be careful or at least record whatever you sideload so that if you get lot of FCs you can backtrack and remove the possible problem apps. I'm reading where people are having slowdowns and fcs and I'm fairly certain it's because these people have installed incompatible apps designed for pre 3.0 Android that are now playing havoc in their Honeycomb system.

I had to use the amazon appstore to install amazon.com. It's not bad to install the second market especially for their free app a day.
Update As it turns out there is an Apple lawsuit that forced HTC to implement the App Associations in US ROMs. This breaks a lot of link functionality in Android, but there is a workaround if you are rooted. HTC had to put an app that intercepts all taps, and redirect you to the app you've chosen in settings. Its as simple as moving/deleting the offending HTCLinkifyDispatcher.apk
Anyone else run into an issue with YouTube links? It seems that all weblinks are handled by the chosen browser, be it Chrome or "Internet".
The behavior on my Galaxy Nexus was that I would tap a YouTube link from an app, or webpage and it would present me with the option to load it in a browser OR the YouTube app.
On the HTC One S (T-Mobile), no matter what I do, I cannot get it to present the option to take me to the native YouTube app (which is a better experience). I've changed the streaming settings around, cleared all app defaults and I still get taken to m.youtube.com rather than having an option to tap the YouTube app.
This is totally frustrating, and I hope I am not missing something obvious! I assume this is related to Sense 4.0 "app associations". Any way around this?

I've noticed the same thing, but haven't really understood or made the connection that you have. And I also haven't tried finding a work around. I assume you're correct that it's a sense "feature" (ha), but don't know of a solution. Sorry to not be of more assistance. :/

Had the same Sense feature.....annoying
So I assume there is no workarounds for this short of throwing a new rom on here
OK good! At least now I know I'm not the only one. I'm still looking for a work around. This does seem like a Sense 4 issue.
Well that's not all... If you have another email client installed aside from Gmail and click an email link, it automatically opens Gmail rather than prompting you to make a choice. I find that very annoying.

Coming over from the Rezound forum, been running into this with Sense and their new setting in settings called App Associations. haven't found a workaround yet.
I am having the same issue with you tube, maps, yelp, TripAdvisor my phone will not prompt me to "complete action using" at all, it takes me straight to the mobile site instead of the app.
I'm having the same problem with youtube . . . Extremely frustrating . . . I hope there's a workaround or a patch in the works
Check the App associations in Settings for the email and maps stuff. The YouTube one I think is so HTC doesn't violate the Apple lawsuit situation.

Apparently in Sense 4.0, whether by accident or by design (I seriously hope it's the former...), HTC broke associating links with apps. I thought this issue was big enough to warrant its own thread.
The main use for this was clicking YouTube links to open in the YouTube app.

Instead, ALL HTML links open in the browser. I am willing to bet Play Store app linksdo the same.
Anyone else really frustrated with this? Is there a way to fix this short of installing a custom ROM
Edit: I want to reiterate that clearing browser defaults doesn't help

Play store links do open in the browser. I've only been back on Android for a couple days after a 5 month iPhone stint so I didn't think anything of it at the time, but now that you bring this up I am retroactively annoyed.
Thought it was just me. Switching launchers doesn't help either. At the very least we should get to choose how links are handled.
I am annoyed by this as well. Hopefully an update will fix this and at least give us the old option list back. At least the youtube page works most of the time.
I need to stop coming to general section...I am seeing more and more bugs...which I never cared but after reading them suddenly I feel a burn in my pocket lol
What gets me mad is youtube links not opening the app. Not only sense 4, but my last phone (Vivid 4.0 Sense 3.6) had the same issue

Wasn't there a legal battle against apple where apple sued HTC for opening appropriate based on the nature of text for example opening the dialer when one clicks in the phone number on a website?
Apple won this case right?
Does this have to do something with this?

Don't think so because clicking a phone number on a web page just brought up the dialer for me
Have you tried "clear defaults" for the stock browser inside the app settings menu? I know I started getting prompted for links through Friendstream and was able to default to Chrome once I did this.

I tried clearing defaults for both Chrome and the stock browser (Internet). It still just defaults to whichever I had last had set as default.
what if you 'press + hold' the link does it give you a coice on what to open it with?
Hi guys,
I recently was able to exchange my Prime for the Infinity and for the most part I am extremely happy. The WiFi and GPS are both fantastic and the screen is beautiful!
One thing I've noticed is that when I go back to an app that I was previously using it will reload. When I do this on my Android phone this doesn't happen. For instance, if I watch a video on YouTube and then open Facebook, read an email, send a couple of texts... on my phone when I go back to YouTube it will still be paused right where I left it. On my Infinity it reloads and starts from the beginning commercials and all. The same goes for web pages, games, etc.
I'm just curious to see if other people are experiencing this same issue......

The screen is bigger so it might need more ram to store multitasking apps and push the pixels. I'm no expert though, don't take what I say as truth.

Hmm - I don't have that issue. It really depends on the way the app is coded, I believe (could be wrong though).
But, using youtube as an example, I started playing a video, paused it, opened up my new email (from the status bar) - read a few emails. Opened my note-taking app, loked around in there, and then switched back to youtube (via the running tasks icon on the status bar) and it was right where I left it.
Also depends on how much memory the apps use - if you are using a super-power-hungry app, it *could* close what's open in the background in order to take more resources for itself.
Last thing - have you made any changes to build.prop settings or Settings->Developer Settings? They could affect the ability to multitask as well...
Hope that helps.

Watch the youtube video below and read the description.
[moto g] blank page when browsing with chrome: http://youtu.be/boTjYNHQwpo
Anyone else affected with this issue? Is there any workaround that doesn't involve using alternative browsers?
Please share your wisdom, mates.

It has happened on mine a few times. I've found that doing a "Force Stop" on the Chrome process (through "Apps" in the main Android settings screen) fixes it and you retain the same open tabs when you re-open it. It's not an ideal solution, but it works.
I did some googling on this a week or so ago when I first noticed it (my phone is relatively new) and it seems this problem has been sporadic with other devices over the past couple years. My phone downloaded a new version of Chrome a day or so ago, but I haven't used Chrome enough since then to know whether or not the new update fixed it or not.
I have the same problem but what i do to fix this is to remove chrome from the recent app list and then launch it again, when it opens it works again maybe the application its too large or to demanding for a gig of ram
This problem only starts after their update a few weeks ago. The update the other day didn't fixed it.
