Hello world. I picked the Razr HD up from verizon about a week ago and I gotta say it's fan-****ing-tastic.
Anyway I noticed that my internal storage wasn't anywhere near 16gb, in fact it's ~10gb. Anyone else run into this problem?
I know the operating system is supposed to take up some space and so does the bloatware but does it really take up an entire 6gb?
Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance. :highfive:

Under settings/storage it breaks down categories on how much room different types of files take up on the internal storage... So you can see what is taking up the most room. To answer your question, the most free space I have seen is between 11.8-12gb free total space. If you want to free up as much space as possible, or debloat, then I would suggest rooting and unlocking the bootloader. You can then fastboot/downgrade back to ICS and start fresh to clear all storage, format ext. sd also. Flash a custom recovery and install a rom like cm10/10.1 which takes up much less room then most roms or stock moto roms.

an21821 pretty much answered the question spot on.
But yes, the stock ROM for the razr hd is closer to 800 Megabytes, but if you really want to clean your device, I would suggest rooting and flashing a new ROM. This will void your warranty, but you can always reflash the stock ROM again to sorta "unvoid" the warranty. If you haven't already done rooted the phone, just send me a pm and I can help you out a bit more.

Hey everybody, i have a mytouch 3g for a couple months now and i'm noticing that the keyboard in landscape is sluggish sometimes. Maybe thats because i have too many apps or what not. But i was thinking (for a while now), maybe i should just root it to get apps to sd. But i'm afraid to brick it or damage it. I also have the standard 4 gig card it came with and i'm not sure about if its enough or about the whole partition thing. Plus, i don;t want to lose my contacts, and pictures, and videos, etc. What do you guys think?

contacts are stored on your google account in the cloud, pictures and videos can be backed up to the pc. Rooting with cyanogen or super d would be a good idea. the best guide in my opinion is on: theunlockr.com
But is the standard card that came with it good enough for root, and why do i need to partition it? I'm just scared about ruining the phone and not getting a new one under warranty. ?

don't worry about the sd card side of things for the moment. it's totally optional and the two extra partitions are for moving your apps to the sd card to free up space - shouldn't actually be an issue on a mt3g as it has more storage than the g21 anyway, and adding a swap partition to 'increase' the ram - only used on some roms, mainly hero ones, and not strictly necessary. i would recommend, folloing the many guides on here and theunlockr to get a custom recovery and flashing either WG or superD - don't worry about the talk of danger spl or upgrading your radio - again, that's just for g1 users.
you should see a massive speed increase without the need to partition your card. if you then feel the need to do it anyway, make sure you're using a fast one (ideally class 6, but class 4 will do at a push) and use the amon RA recovery (remember to flash the mt3g one on your phone and not the g1 one) - there's an option on there that will do it all for you.

Hi basic question regarding my internal sdcard.
Im having an issue and was told I should format my sdcard (I dont have an external sd).
I hooked my phone up via USB and opened it with windows explorer. I see my device and see "Internal Storage", which contains every folder within it. I dont see something specific for "sdcard" and Im unsure how to find it. Is the entire "Internal Storage" folder what Im looking for? Is that what I should completely back up on pc, format and then repopulate? Im nervous about bricking the phone so want to confirm this...
Thanks.
The internal memory is the sd card referred to. You will lose all of your data.

Thanks for the reply. So if I first copy every folder here onto my PC, format it and then put all those folders back, should I expect the phone to restart without any problem and everything fully intact?

thanks really appreciate this guidance.
i know it seems obvious, but doing it your first time is scary so its really helpful to get affirmation that my understanding of what may seem basic and obvious is correct
Haha I know that feeling, first time I tried to root a phone I almost bricked it probably one of my scariest moments. YouTube helps a lot, there's plenty of step by step guides on how to do pretty much everything to your phone.

OT: First time i modded a phone (a razr v3i) i did brick it. after a week of research (the v3i scene is a huge mess) i was able to both save it and do some weird stuff like changing imei for fun
as for the topic, luc.highwalker has covered it so you are safe lirong.

Sorry if this has been asked before, but I've been pretty regular on the forums and searched a few times now and not found anything. When I had the HTC Desire which had limited internal memory, with S Off the partitions could be changed to suit what rom you were using, so space wasn't wasted which originally was used for the huge stock rom.
The main reason I sold my first htc one s almost a year ago was that I used up the 9gb of available space very fast. I've always had just a 16gb sd card in the rest of my phones and never ran out of space so far. I waited until the HTC One S got s off before I considered getting it again. Now I got a $100 used One S which I'm really happy with, rooted and S off and it's working great, but it looks like there is no possibility of ever getting that wasted space in the memory card so I can fit more music and pictures/videos on here.
Can someone confirm that there is no way, or chance at some time being a way to do this? I'm going to stick with the One S anyway because I love it otherwise, maybe I will have to get a usb otg cable and small flash drive and store extra music that way?
Thanks.
Theoretically, it can be done but it has not (yet) been done.
It is a dangerous thing to experiment with; you can realistically only play around with that if you have the means to revive a brick. Also, in case of the One-S it doesn't make as much sense as on the Desire. (I have a Bravo-PVT-1 as well.)
The Desire had waaay too little space for apps and app data. Moving relatively little space from system and cache to data made a lot of difference and was a huge benefit.
The One-S has enough space for apps and app data. The extra space we could theoretically move from system and data to sdcard would be well under 2G. Much less of a benefit.
9.6G is not much but neither is 11G, so not much of an incentive. But no, I can not confirm that there is no way never ever.
-Jobo
That's too bad. For me personally there is way more space than I will ever need for apps. Not sure but I assume even the sense based Roms like the viper Rom I've got now use less space than stock.
I think this phone needs the repartitioning more than the desire did.
Sent from my HTC One S using xda app-developers app
Maybe you can try this.
It's not really partitioning, but can give you more space.
Alright. I have done hours and hours of research trying to figure all this out and I just keep hitting walls. I recently bought a yeahpad R7 with android 4.1.1 and it was advertised to have 4GB of internal memory. I went ahead and bought a class 10 8GB tf card that I was going to use with it for a little more extra storage. Well, when I got the tablet I learned that I have system storage with about 1GB and Nand flash storage of 1.16GB of total memory. I was pretty upset that it wasn't the advertised 4gb... not really close. I did my research and found out that I can root it and make the tablet think that the tf card is my flash storage which would give me more memory, so I downloaded some explorer apps from the market, added in the coding in the vold.fstab file and it wouldn't allow changes. I learned that I need to make my external sd card writable in permissions, so I rewrote that coding, and again, wouldn't let me save the file. I then learn that I need to root my whole system so that it would allow changes by using superuser...? I'm getting so lost and confused but I hate to give up! I've searched this forum and can't find anything. I don't want to ask potentially dumb questions, but to me, this one is a real head scratcher. Any help is appreciated.
Mods, if this is the wrong section, please move me around! Thanks!
any ideas?
ok, i just figured out that i need to use usb debugging mode. I'm still doing some reading on that, apparently I skipped that step when learning about rooting and just when into the coding, leading me to wonder why I can't save anything... Or maybe i'm still missing something.
My goal is to have this done before this friday because I'm going out of town for three days, then i'm home for a week then leaving for a week. I just want that extra space and feedom on my tablet. thanks again!
I just tried 3 different one click root programs, none of them would work. Oneclickroot seemed to be the best and most descriptive. It told me that they do not support my version yet. Again, i have android 4.1.1. That version isn't that new, is it? Superoneclick just froze and 1clickroot was just unable to root. This is driving me crazy
Seriously, any help would be nice. Either this has everyone stumped and nobody knows or nobody cares to help.
My fiance had to get a warranty exchange on her Sony Xperia Purple. The phone they gave her was a Samsung On5. Get old phone had 16 gb and her On5 only has 8 gb. I was trying to transfer her apps to her ST card so it would give her some more space so she can download her apps she had on get old phone. She uses the phone a lot to write, look things up and so on. She has terminal breast cancer and is bed most of the time so that's pretty much all she has to do that's not watching tv. Anyways I fought with T-Mobile for a month asking why they wanted to give her a phone with less space and that's not of equal value and shape. They said it's because after the past few years the phone lost its value and the On5 is what is around the same price now since they don't make get phone anymore. I think it's crap because she should have at least had the same 16 gb. Anyways, she doesn't so now I'm trying to figure out why it won't let me transfer the app to the sd card. So when I go into the application its highlighted and I'm able to click transfer to SD card. When I hit transfer it goes to around 80-90% then says unable to to transfer because there's not enough space. Which I just put a 32 gb SD card in there and formatted the card. It doesn't have not thing on the card. I'm able to transfer pictures on the card and music just. But I went ahead and erased those so I could have enough space. The apps that are aloud to be transferred ate highlighted and give you the option. Three other apps that you can't transfer don't even have an option for you to move to SD card. Can some one please let me know what I need and can do so I can free some space up for her and she can enjoy the phone. I can't just let go buy a different phone. Even though I wish I could. Thank you so very much!! [emoji16] [emoji20]

Firstly, I'm sorry about your wife man.
Secondly, You should edit the post and remove your IMEI & Serial Number. Those aren't of any help and posting them here can be a huge security risk for you. Replace it instead with your android version and such.
And, thirdly.....you have T-Mobile's version of the On5, which means its running 6.0. Marshmallow has a feature called "adoptable storage" where you can basically "merge" your external SD card with the internal storage. If Samsung didnt move or mess with it, it should be somewhere in settings>storage. Try that out and let me know if it works.
Keep in mind that it'll format your SD card though. And it'll also become unusable outside your wife's device.

Thank you Freewander10 for your response. I believe I changed the the info on the original like you recommended. So I went into the settings them storage and it says internal storage 7.66 GB used of 8.00 GB. Then below that it says SD Card 128 KB used of 31.24 GB. I don't see anything that says adoptive storage. I am so sorry for the annoyance of all of this. I'm just trying to get it where she can free up some space. I am terrible at this lol. But I can learn. Anyways, I'm still trying to find somehow to do this. I was trying to post a video and a picture but it said both were too big. So I apologize about that. I just don't understand why it slows that its able to be transferred, I have the space but it still won't because not enough space. Lol please forgive my slowness. I really do appreciate your help. Sorry for any frustration.

It's still showing in your reply and I'm not sure how to change that. I went to settings then storage. There was no adoptive storage. I'm not sure what to do. Its so stressful. I really do appreciate your help. I hope I have not caused any frustration or even annoyance lol. I am really terrible at knowing the details about phones but I do learn. Thank you for your help again. If you think of anything please let me know. She has no space on the device but has a full empty but formatted SD card. I hope I have not made myself look too ignorant lol. Thank you so much!

Its no problem at all bro. I'm happy to help.
And thanks for pointing out your info was still in my response :silly:
I've made the necessary edits.
Now, I did a bit of googling and found out that Samsung deliberately disabled the adoptable storage feature on the On5. Why? I have no idea.
But all hope isn't lost. You can still enable it/something similar. But you'll have to get your hands a bit dirty.
Most threads/sites I've been to recommended an app called "root essentials".... And as the name suggests, it requires root. Seeing this is Samsung, I doubt any/most of the one click root apps will be of any use, but I found a thread for your wife's device that outlines another method to get root access. There's also information in there on how to enable adoptable storage (via root essentials). Check it out and let me know I you make any progress. And try not to blow up the device
