Screen keeps dying.. - T-Mobile LG G2x

my screen keeps dying. I'll turn the screen off for a while, 10-15mins and then ill try to turn it on but nothing happens when i press the power button. Could any of my settings be causing or affecting this behavior?

Sleep of death.
Alot of things can cause this, for me the ONLY time I hit SOD is if I have large apps opened, and let the phone fall asleep. Barely happens for me.
Whats your min/max CPU? Wireless on/off? Charging or not charging?

Its not charging. Wifi is on.
1015 Max and 216 min for CPU

I turned off wifi and wifi calling....that seemed to get it under control. Went into manage application settings and closed out a bunch background running apps that got accumulated. Going to turn on wifi n wifi calling now to test out.

I had this kind of problem when I set the screen off frequency too low in the profile. Any chance you have something similar going on?

Where do i find the screen off frequency I'm cm7 lol

Do you mean the "screen time out?" Its set to 30 seconds which is the lowest setting. However, ever since i stopped a bunch of useless apps from running in the background the problem has gone away. It was also happening in class while i was connected to the crappy university network. It consistently loses and regains connection. I think that may have played a role as well

No that's not what he meant.
I am assuming you are using that CPU Master apk I slid your way. When in that app see if your profiles are on and what the min/max is set at.
I don't use profiles, tend to find they cause more problems than good. The app is constantly having to monitor and check for "conditions" to be met so it can activate the profile, using CPU to do so, which results in more battery use.
Our devices are setup with governors and/or hardware scaling which do excatly that, adjust CPU frequency based on demand.
So you have to look at it in a logical sense.
Lets say opening a certain app at 1ghz takes 5 seconds. Than say you underclock the phone to say 816MHz and than open the app. Instead off the app increasing the CPU load and the governor polls the.frequency up to 1GHz for 5 seconds and than scaling frequency back down, the governor will poll up to 816MHz and spend, lets say 10 seconds to load that app up now at the slower speed, you basically forced the CPU to spend more time at the higher frequency (816) as it's capped at that speed, so you actually made the phone sit at the higher end of the frequency pool consuming more mV in the long run than if you would have just left it at 1GHz cap and let it consume the more mV but for a much shorter period of time.
This was how it was explained to me and via my own testing the % of time spent at 816MHz was much, much more than the % of time spent at 1GHz.
Logic man, lol, logic. There will be those who argue, you just have to expirement for yourself, you'll see.
Also, don't use swap files unless you have a class 10 MicroSD card, all it does is increase read times and slows down the phone.

Deep Sleeps Woes

Does anyone else have an issue with the phone NOT going into Deep Sleep after unplugging from charger? Phone deep sleeps after rebooting, but upon plugging in charger and then unplugging never sleeps again until a reboot. This isn't ROM specific and happens in all of them.
Have toy tried using better battery stats to find out what is causing the wakelock? I've had fewer issues with this phone and deep sleep than my previous i9100.

you need a custom kernel which supports changing the min freq.
Same here, Deep Sleep required reboot after unplugged. I am on Skyrocketeer with sky kernel.

Who here uses power saving mode?

Just wondering how many people actively use power saving mod on Verizon. Do you find it that you save battery life?
I actually does save battery life. It underclocks it to I think 1.1 ghz or something around there.

I use it and my battery drains like crazy but that could also be that I have little to no service at work where I use it most.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2
Well I should ask how much battery does it actually save you?
I tried it for a day or two. Then I rooted and flashed synergy 1.3 and I will never need it again. I didn't think it actually did that great of a job and I'd rather not limit my phone to get better battery life.
I use it and it seems to work. While at work I stream music on my walks during lunch a good half hour to 45 minutes on LTE. By the end of day I'm at about 60% when I get home. That includes checking Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and emails throughout.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
Haven't logged it, but my impression is my battery lasts noticeably longer with power saving on. On a typical day I end up with around 60% left after work if I had it on vs. maybe 40% with it off. There are exceptions though.

When u enable power saver it kills one of the cores which greatly effects performance...
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
Power saver drops the processor down to 1.35ghz and does save a bunch of battery. I used to have a problem with losing a little bit of snappiness in my launcher, but now that Imo's 12.2 kernel is up and running everywhere that performance drop becomes negligible. I do make sure to only have the CPU throttling running and sometimes the email / internet modifier. The other stuff is more of a pain than it's worth.
Does anyone use the option to analyze images and adjust screen tones?
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
Tried it on the factory touchwiz after the first day of not really messing with the phone and have 20% of battery left after 8 hours but quickly realized that I wasn't going to be happy with the phone underclocked as it were. I'm going to guess it clocks the phone down quite a bit more than you guys realize too.
Install CPU Spy on your phone and let it monitor where it sets the clock rates.

Incorrect. It reduces the maximum clock speed.
Power Saving Mode
If you read the description of what power save mode is, you will understand that it does almost nothing with little to no use but when you are playing a game it will restrict the processor from using too much power and the phone will change the color tone of white so the screen uses less power. So unless you are playing games all day with a white background (doodle jump) you shouldn't see a big battery saving.

So is that with or without power saving mode? because if thats the case I tend to get that without 0_0. I guess the main reason I asked was because when I first got the phone I was easily able to hit 4 hours of on screen time and now im down to 3 hours =/ thats still plenty battery but I was thinking that maybe id get the extra hour back with power saving mode. Ive tried to keep it back on lately but i still get roughly the same amount of battery life.

[Q] Screen absolutely killing battery

Hi, so ever since ICS, or at least SCv7 (not sure if it did it stock, I switched right away), my screen has bee completely killing my battery
I still get perfectly fine life with the screen off, but it just drops right down with it on even not doing anything to heavy. Definitely a problem not normal.
Anyone have any ideas? Is this happening to anyone else?
P.S. Thanks for the new Q and A section by the way.

What are your screen settings at (levels, auto on/off, etc)? Screen is by far the biggest drain on battery. Check my Battery Guide, last Page for an app mentioned to lower brightness more than the stock settings will allow for- maybe that would help in certain instances. I haven't tried it myself, but will be doing so over the weekend, and if beneficial I will update the OP with it.
My SGS3 is the same as my A2 being that the screen gobbled up battery like crazy. So, I suppose you're not alone, at least with what I've experienced.
Not sure if any of this is helpful, but thought I'd share my thoughts...

I keep it on auto or low all the time. this is definitely a real problem, because it was nowhere near as bad on GB. now I know they fixed the cell standby issue, but I can literally see the battery go right on down when I turn it on. 3-4 hours on would kill it.
Maybe try with auto off for a while, see if you notice any difference.

Looking at your battery's discharge rate graph, looks pretty normal. There's no drastic drops in battery, it's fairly linear in discharge, and even if the screen is using most of that. However, there could be other culprits. What about sync, or haptic, or any of the other things I outlined in my guide? WiFi is off, from what I saw, but might not just be the screen. Have you tried editing build prop for "deeper" deep sleep or edits to other things? I'm going to update my OP with a few more things I thought of for improving overall battery life this weekend. Maybe some of the new ones will help...

I'm sure that the display is eatin more than GB ....
i didn't see display going >50% in GB ..... now on ICS its like always >=70%
i have 2nd system as MIUI from "rdavisct" when i switch to it & come back to ICS
then my battery calibration scrambles ... i did switchin yesterday & it showed me
30% far early than expected
Same problem here..my screen draining 57%
Why don't you try the app betterbatterystats it's here in xda:

This may help to see the real problem of the fast battery drain you said, also you can install the app rootDim from the playstore to custom your screen brightness.

KToonsez Kernel Settings

Thought it would would be nice to have a thread dedicated to KToonsez kernel settings and adjustments. This can be the place to share tips of what works best for you. To organize this a bit, list the following....
Is it built for speed, stability, or battery saving?
Min-max CPU freq.
CPU volts if you changed them.
Gov and settings.
Anything else you want to add??
FYI. Scrolling though alot of pictures all in one page on the web or the Vellamo HTML 5 benchmark is the best way to test stability IMO.
Also be careful of running your benchmarks at 2106mhz. They may increase the CPU temp higher than you think. I hit atleast 140 degrees Fahrenheit on the Elephant stress test!! I'm not sure what temp the CPU can really take before it destroys itself.

Fairly smooth and quick.
Wheatley Gov + stock Gov settings.
96-2106
2106 @ 1325mv
96 @ 800mv
Touch Boost @ stock
This setup seems to keep the CPU from burning up and still puts out the power.
In the taskbar I am running Micro CPU Monitor, Temp Monitor(CPU), and Cool Tool APPS. All this is keeping good track of everything my CPU is doing regardless of what app I am currently using. Its all right there at the top of the screen. Load, Frequency, and Temp.

your welcome
Following this thread because it does seem like interesting information that's not easily available anywhere else.
One important thing I see people aren't listing is what ROM they are using, especially if it's AOSP-based or TW-based.
I was running KT747 10/31 release on the first JB TW leak and was getting a lot of strange behavior, even with the stock settings.
I'll be trying it again on the latest release once I get my device dialed in (Clean ROM 4.5) and create a backup.

[Q] The Battery

Does anyone have any ideas of how to suck less juice out of the battery? I'm on EP5 with tweaked ROM.
Also noticed that when the phone gives notifications, the screen lights up and displays the pattern screen. Some times it does not shut off. I have CPU spy and the phone hardly ever goes deep sleep. usually stays at 100mhz.
If I could fix this one problem, I'd be happy with the phone.

If I could fix this one problem, I'd be happy with the phone.

depends on what kind of life you are getting/expecting?
with Juice Defender, I can go all day (just about, really 16 hours with moderate use). without JD, I get about 12-14 hours with moderate/light use. this is with WiFi, mobile data, and bluetooth on all the time (JD does disable mobile data when wifi is connected, but still "holds" a connection). I know this is the case b/c when I leave the phone unplugged at night (8 hours), my phone will drain about 23% with mobile data on and wifi connected. with me manually turning mobile data off, it will drain ~7%.
regarding screen wakes, what kind of notifications are causing the screen to turn on? for mine, the only time the screen turns on is when I have a call or battery is fully charged/hits the 15/5% triggers.
do you have BLN enabled?
