Anyone know why it is some links don't download. like if its a pdf it appears to but there's nothing there?
Is this with the stock browser? If so, then that has been a bug for a while.
no all browser don't download like if its from one of those paid media store sites.
and it looks like it downloads but the file size is too small.
same thing on the nexus 7. work fine on a PC
oh it seems to be solvable with download manager. "loaderdroid download manager" makes the claim. will try now.

Hi,
Call me a noob, but I DID try to search for it, but could not find anything that would suit me. I do sometimes download ROMs using 3g network(unlimited data plan) but when its too big, sometimes happens that it gets disconnected in midway and never resumes in the original download manager in browser. So I am looking for some download manager, that would allow me to pause/resume downloads, or perhaps resume from where it stopped by disconnection.
any Idias? I have tried some on android market, but could not find any useful
Free are prefered

No, currently I have in mind this: http://www.baadnwz.eu/search/label/stable The file has 277mb, and ALWAYS fails at 22%. I believe that some downloader would allow me to start again and continue after 22%, rather than start again as the build in downloader does
Byte tornado downloader or Synodroid from market is that, what you looking for, i hope
I'm currently using Xwind Downloader
https://market.android.com/details?id=cn.com.android.surefan&feature=search_result
It monitors the clipboard and also intercepts downloads from your browser, the interface and translation is still a little wonky but it works decently.
I currently access a website that has the ability to download selected files from the click of a hyperlink. (on the PC). You just click on the link and the files come down and a dialog box opens with the downloaded file asking, to open it or save it.
When I try to do the same on my phone the website appears to be accepting depressing the link, however nothing appears on my phone and I cannot find the file anywhere space on the phone. It may be downloading the file in the file structure but I cannot find it. My friend who has an iPhone does the same thing and the file opens up immediately on his phone just like you would on a PC.
I can open these files if they are sent to me in an e-mail but not by depressing this hyperlink on the website.
Anyone have any ideas?
ps: the phone is a stock Charge with the latest GB update.
Usually you'd see an arrow in the Status Bar when something is actually downloading. You can also check the Downloads app in your App Drawer, providing you have it.
It sounds to me like it's simply not downloading for some reason You could try another Browser to see if you have the same problem.
I tried using the dolphin browser but still no luck. I looked in the downloads folder and did not see it. The particular link on the website itself is a function that automatically begins a download stream to the your device. When using a PC, a dialog box opens up asking if you want to open the file or save it. I get no reaction when using my android phone. I know the function works on a mobile device since a friend of mine with an iPhone perform the same function and it downloaded to his phone.
Any other ideas?
What is the website you are trying to download from?
Anyway, try Opera Mobile first, NOT the MINI version, but "Opera Mobile".
Its the only browser who allowes me to download from any source I tried so far:

Wow, thanks very much for the help yukinok25. Looks like the Opera Mini browser, which I assume is similar to what's in the iPhone works perfectly. The website I am accessing this link is a secure server so I cannot tell you the website.

No problem, I don't wanna know.
Just glad you solved your issues.
Hi All,
I've done some cursory searches, and maybe I'm not using the right keywords, but I was wondering if others are experiencing this and if there's a setting somewhere I'm not seeing to maybe shut off this weird bug.
Here's the most recent example that illustrates this issue. I was browsing around on the xda-forums and there was an attached APK I wanted to download. So, on the computer I clicked on the QR Code and just had my stock (rooted, GB v2.3.6) phone detect the direct download to the apk from the link using barcode scanner. It correctly identifies the link and I click on open in browser. The stock browser loads automatically and begins to download the apk. Great. I hit the home button, pull down the notification, click on the downloaded file, it asks me to install the apk, I agree, it installs, I open it. Wonderful.
I then open my email and there's a link to a site. I click on it and then the browser proceeds to load the last loaded page, in this case a downloadable file. So it proceeds to download the file AGAIN and appending -N.apk (where N is the next available number) to the filename. Unless I restart the phone, it will continue to download the file again and again, increasing the value of N every time I attempt to load the browser again. Whether by clicking on a link, or just opening the browser directly from the app's icon. Any thoughts on this?! Am I just doing something wrong? I guess this is a feature you want to load the last page you had open the last time the browser was used, which is fine for web-pages, but I don't want it to keep downloading the same file over and over again every time I load the browser!
Any thoughts or suggestions, or even a link to where this is discussed and hopefully resolved would be of GREATEST appreciation!
Thanks!

Hit menu>new window
That will prompt your gmail attachment to open in that new window.
I use an app called Download Them All and never get that problem. It will download attachments, files from the net, etc. Good little app.

I'm not sure that resolves the issue. Since the initial attempt to open a browser window was in fact to load up a downloadable file (the original APK). Every time I open the browser app, it attempts to reload the last loaded page (or in this case, the file) and so it redownloads the file. In order for me to click on Menu>New Window, I would still have to load the browser app and it's at that stage it redownloads the file.
When the download has started.. manage windows. Close the window.

Yeah...I tried that...you'd think it would work, right? For some reason, the browser doesn't respect that....
Only thing I can recommend at this point is to use a different browser... or user lol jk!

Did you try the Download Them All app?
It eliminates the browser from opening at all.
Also, check the settings for the browser and see if there is an option to disable cookies being saved. Clear your cache, etc. That should stop the issue for this particular item at least.

Thanks, I installed it but haven't really tested it yet. Not sure how this is supposed to fix the issue though since the app doesn't load BEFORE the file is downloaded, it's on the list of apps to select once you click on an already downloaded file and it asks you where you want to save it - which is a nice feature, but doesn't prevent the file from downloading in the first place.....
Thoughts?
Sorry for my bad english but I try to explain my problem. I have a Motorola Xoom and when a Try to download some file from many host like Uploaded, Bitshare, Rapidgator, etc. the dowload doesn't start. Is it a problem of only my tablet or all xooms have the same problem.
I have ICS official.
Thanks
Define "doesn't start". No pop up at all in bottom-right corner?
Because I can download with no problems, on stock browser.
I have had issues with the Stock Browser on certain sites (cannot remember which ones mind you).
The two issues had been the download button doing nothing or the download starts and stops almost immediately.
My solution was to use Opera Mobile which, so far, has worked with every site.
Yes pop up

Yes, download pop up at all in bottom-right corner but immediately says download complete o download incorrect. Can you try download this file? If it's starts cancel it because a friend hasthe Galaxy Tab and has the same problem.
Here's the link: uploaded.to/file/7chqnxo3
Thanks
True Blood?
Yeah, I can't download it either. Just says download complete. Eos3 nightlies 129, stock browser.
As Yuccaman says, I have encountered the stock browser to not like the download links on certain sites. My guess is this is one of them.
I'm unsure of any work-around apart from trying alternative browsers.
Every time I want to download a .pptx file through Google Chrome it says file download completed, but when I try to open it through quickoffice, it says file corrupted. If I download the file through dolphin browser it works fine. Anyone else having this problem? Also, on a side note, anyone else finding the new download screen with the loading bar that takes up the whole screen on Chrome unbelievably annoying? Thanks in advance!

Yeah Chrome is exceptionally well at downloading corrupted files and has been for a while. Especially with anything android related. I generally use Opera Classic browser for downloads, Dolphin browser is pretty good too.

And specific fixed that you know of? I'd rather not have to completely switch browsers. In fact, just last month, Chrome was working fine for me. Ever since the update that made the download screen into the loading bar
(Pic 1). I've been having problems (Pic 2).

Unfortunately no I don't know of a fix, next update hopefully. I've had issues using Chrome for downloads only quite a few times. Like any time that I've downloaded any ROM with Chrome it's corrupted. I definitely prefer Chrome as well and still use it daily. I really only use Opera Classic for downloads. If you download a lot you could check out Opera Mini, it's a lite weight version of classic.
