So i was trying to send a picture message earlier (mms) and i noticed that the picture would not send. I went into my network settings and saw that data over mobile network was disabled. I enabled it and then the picture sent. However, i was connected to the internet via wifi. I've never had this problem before. Shouldn't mms messages be able to send if I'm connected to wifi even if data over mobile network is disabled?

you should select gsm/wcdma auto or the one that says gsm/wcdma preferred.
GSM only means you won't go faster than 2G when using cellular networks.
GSM = G/2G (edge)
WCDMA= 3G/4G

I've been told that the mms application on cm7 is not capable of sending mms over wifi and that u need the stock mms app to do it. There's a link in the weapon thread but its dead. Anyone have a stock mms apk file?

Yep, killed MMS over wifi.
But the thing is for me, I know 100% where I am sitting at home is a no cellular deadspot, and why I rely on wifi calling, but there is absolutely no way in hell that it's using mobile data in my situation.
Its like I can turn on AP mode, and than manually turn on wifi, and wifi calling still won't work, even though I am online with wifi and surfing.
Maybe it's built into the wifi calling app that a certain set of conditions must be met to be used correctly.
Ive used wifi calling everyday and night at home since July 2012 and do not have issues, but I leave mobile data on.
I dropped myself down to the 200MB package and I barely use 100MB/month, so that kimda shows as well that it's not actually using mobile data, but needs to be enabled.

All of a sudden my 3g network quit working! For some reason, I'm also unable to receive sms messages, though I AM able to make calls. The up arrow on the 3G indicator flashes constantly, obviously indicating I'm trying to access data, which I am, but the down arrow stays inactive except for a few random flashes (just once and then a few minutes of nothing again). I've tried toggling airplane mode, turning mobile network on/off, rebooting the phone and I even went as far as resetting, all to no avail. This is my home where I have NEVER had any troubles with 3g. Occasionally, the phone does recieve data for long enough to load a page or anything else but the majority is just getting network errors and failures to load. If anyone can help, it would be greatly appreciated.

Ok. Honestly, you need to be rooted.LOL. Seriously,it sounds like a network error. I would call customer service, and ask for technical support. If you are with Sprint, ask for technical support. They should be able to walk you through it. Do any of your friends have same phone and network? Check with them, and see if they are having the same issues. You stated that you did a factory data reset, can't remember if that requires reboot. Sure it does, though. Also, try doing a battery pull.

I think 2.3.6 comes with a built-in app called "Talk" as well. Though I've never used it, most video call apps are pretty much junk (compared to the degree of technology we have -can put a man on the moon but can't have a decent video call without choppy video and scratchy voice quality) but there are apps out there... just find one you like?

Not sure what else we expecting here.....
Video call using phone without WiFi/3G/4G? I'm not sure that's possible in any phone...
It would only make sense that video call has to use data (Wi-Fi) since you're streaming/sending 'live' video data. 4G is faster than 3G, which is faster than 2G (obviously), but none of which are fast enough to keep up with the data rate transfer for live video calling.

I just Google'd it 'cause I'm bored. iPhone 4S video calling connects over 3G, 4G, and Wi-Fi. They still suck though, I mean, no flash support? C'mon, damn near every website has some flash in it. Any update to this? GoSMS just doesnt work as well as I would expect. Slow to refresh, wants to download messages.... I heard that JB 4.2's messaging app could handle group MMS natively. Hard to believe Google would not support this. Every iPhone to Android user i've talked to has moaned incessantly about lack of solid group MMS. Is there a reason? I mean google can you you a spec of dirt on the other side of the earth but cant handle group MMS like iOS, BB, and freakin Windows Mobile? What gives
Okay. So I bought an unlocked g2x brand new from Amazon. Everything almost works as it should: calling, wifi, texting ....the thing is I cannot send or receive picture messaging.
I spent hours on the phone with T-Mobile (ironically bought an unlocked phone that was originally T-Mobile to use on T-Mobile network. Funny right?) and they say because the imei number is unlocked I am unable to do picture messaging without a data plan. I can't afford a data plan right now.
Anyways I'm hoping there is a way to change the imei number back to being T-Mobile specific. In other words: I want to lock my unlocked phone back to T-Mobile.
All I want is picture messaging. I shouldn't have to have a data plan to achieve this. Can anyone please help?
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda app-developers app
It shouldn't be your imei, it's your apn settings. Go to settings, wireless, network settings and make sure your apn is set for tmobile.
My phone is unlocked and I send pictures without a data plan. Just remember that you need to have mobile data enabled. It uses data technically, but it's incorporated with your texting plan.
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda app-developers app
You sir are a genius. That actually fixed my problem.
Now, I have data blocked on my phone so I shouldn't be able to use the data thing even if I tried. ...
I did activate that setting and upon successfully sending a text, the 4g logo does come up where my signal strength and battery are shown. Can you confirm this to be normal? I don't want any extra charges on my next bill....
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda app-developers app
Call them and make sure there's a data block on your phone. You won't get charged. And yes the 4G logo will show when sending an mms.

Sent from my LG-P999 using xda app-developers app
Ok after rereading, I see you said to edit my apn, which I assume is short for access point names. Should I edit the only one that is there which is "T-Mobile us, Epc.tmobile. com "
Or should I create a new one?
This is of course assuming that apn is access point names.
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda app-developers app
I did what you suggested, although I had to Create a new apn rather than edit the original because the original will not let me edit it....
After creating the new one, I suspect maybe a miss type in the settings. "Etc " is what I believe you said, but upon using that setting I could no longer send pics.
Once I changed it to "epc " I was able to do so.....
Anyways after creating the new apn as per your suggestion, I noticed that it was an exact mirror of my original apn.
But here's the kicker:
I was able to receive pics so long as my buddy selected to forward it rather than sending it directly (if that makes any sense) .
I then tried to have him compose a fresh message and select a pic to send....to no avail. I also had another friend attempt to do the same only to achieve the same results.
I am having zero issues sending pics.
And so long as data is enabled, I am able to do so.
Its the receiving pics that is giving me the issues.
I don't understand why I can receive forwarded pics....
If anyone can help I suppose I can send my cell number,(with great apprehension) ,via pm to someone who is willing to trouble shoot....

Root no, if a factory restore doesn't then I'd wipe data and install cyanogenmod and see if it works.
