On messaging, the emoji is the stock iPhone one, which is great for texting people with the other device, but on any other app it has the "android" version which is nice but annoying at the same time since I don't really know which emoji it corresponds to. Also, I can only use emoji in messaging, but if I copy and paste it to other apps, it shows up fine (but as the android version). Is there any way to be able to use these across other apps? Or be able to see the iPhone emoji on other apps?
First picture is the messaging app options, second pic is how it shows up in other apps.

I don't really want to start a war of the texting world. But what are your preferences for texting apps and why?
Hand cent, GO, etc.
Thanks all. Just want friendly discussion.

AOKP has a stock ICS SMS app that has Emoji. I love it.

Although it has a large footprint like Handcent, GoSMS is terrific for a lot of reasons. First, it has two plugin downloads for emoticons/Emojis. It comes with standard happy/sad/confused faces, but one plugin adds elaborate faces, symbols and icons (probably close to 300) and are much more detailed. The second plugin adds something like large vector art.
And some may be asking "how can my recipient get these things in their messages if they are not supported--or if one of these items turns the message into an MMS?
Well that's the most nifty thing about it. It had a service that is linked to the app which routes it around their servers and straight to your recipient as a data-based MMS. In other words, even if you cannot typically send MMS because your APN is wrong or whatever, this app makes sure your texts get through...essentially it's an SMS-over-IP service. Plus, your recipient does not need to have it installed.
Lastly GoSMS can be infinitely skinned. I am not sure what Handcent can do, but I use images for the background of my conversations list and my actual conversion (which can be customized for each recipient). It also scans all other apps for any fonts it can use, and offers them to be used as part of the UI..

I prefer GoSMS. I don't like the stock sms client and originally used Handcent until it started force closing all the time. If this had not start happening, I would probably still use handcent. GoSMS is highly customizable which I like.
I'm using the inverted AOSP Stuff out of this forum from he_stheone64. Because it's look very smart and clean for me and it's much easier to handle than this htc sense stuff..
thats my opinion why I had chosen them.

Hi every one
I'm currently looking for a SMS app that let me see my list of conversation on the left and the conversation I selected on the right (something like the landscape mode SMS app for Galaxy SII). All I can find when looking for a tablet SMS app are apps that read SMS from a phone and display them on the tablet, but that's not what I'm looking for, as I want this app on my Paranoid Android Galaxy S. I hope what I mean is understandable enough, thanks in advance for anyone who answers.
So you want the SMS app to look like the tablet version of gmail?

Yes, I'm looking for something like that.
The sidekick 4g also has a stock mms app in that style. Somebody would need to recompile it for aosp though. Better off with the other one though cuz the sidekick used custom everything...

split view
samsung comes with a nice split view on galaxy tabs, unfortunately lost the view with switch to cm.
in the market is tablet sms by player thong, which only helps you with sms sent from this app.
on the left is the contact list. checked it, deleted it.
No other good sms app for phablets?
So I enjoy the stock messaging app and I also enjoy that I am able to customize the bubbles and back round for the app as well. So my question is if there is any way to download more bubbles or backgrounds for the messaging app without having to go to another app such as go sms?
How are you customizing the bubbles?
I can see why Apple would be suing, it looks lifted straight from the iPhone IMO.
Hit settings in the messaging app and at the top you can change the background and bubble layout

Thanks for the tip, blackguy. I don't know for certain but I highly doubt it's possible since the SMS app is an apk, just like anything else. Maybe a dev could hack it to include more color choices but it seems like a 3rd party app is the only way.
I'm with you though, I don't want to allow permissions to read my texts to some free, ad supported 3rd party app...

I agree with what blackguy told you. You must have 'messaging' open. Not the display that shows the bubbles themselves but the one that shows conversations. Then hit menu, settings, bubble style.
I wish we could change the colors of the bubbles.

I've seen a few apps in the Play Store (mostly just plugins for alternative SMS hosts like GoSMS) like Emoji Keyboard and Emoji Codec that I couldn't get to work. Then I attempted a method I found in the description of Emoji Keyboard's app information which involved replacing a file in system/fonts through root explorer. I know I did everything in the instructions but it didn't work for whatever reason.
I want to be able to send and receive emojis (at the very least, with someone using the same app as me) inter-Android and with iOS also if possible. Any possible app/method? I'm running CM10 8/16 build but will be updating to the 8/23 build that's coming.
And I'd prefer not to use What's App. Thanks in advance!

Open up native messaging app, hit menu and then settings. Scroll to bottom and there should be an option for "enable emojis"

It wasn't included in 8/16 CM10 but it's here now in 8/23 which is awesome BTW. Thank you. I was really looking for an app I could tell all the iPhone users and Droid users to get that would work for all of us (but not What's App). Anyway, thanks

Emojis that I send to iPhone 4/4S users go through. 3G and below can't see them for whatever reason
Likewise, emojis that I receive from iPhone 4/4S users show up on my Infuse

I think thats cause iphone and android made a universal emoji so that both can see it. I read an article about it a few months back when it was in the works..
Thanks making this post I had been using GO SMS just for emojis. My wife still has an iPhone.

My experience with CM10:
the only way to access emojis is through the messaging app. They can be sent through text messages by pressing the menu button and selecting “insert emojis" provided that you have emoji support enabled in messaging settings. (From my experience, only later builds of CM10 have emoji support. That's source code though and has nothing to do with our brilliant devs).
To get emojis into Facebook you need to use a copy-paste workaround.
1) Enter stock messaging app and go to a conversation.
2) Press the menu button
3) Select insert emojis
4) Select desired emojis
5) Press back button to return to the message.
6) Copy the emojis and paste them into Facebook
Most should work, some might not. It's hit or miss. Peace sign, thumbs up, hearts and many more are on the working list.

Just wish they would intergrate them more into other apps such as FB. That copy and paste method just takes up to much time. Olus i think they could revamp some of them as they are pretty stupid, maybe add the finger, We all know that we would like that one once in awhile. :good:

I more recently flashed an emoji keyboard from the BaNkS GApps thread which you enable in input settings. So I use the selector notification every time I input text. Looks like this.

If I recall correctly, there's some kind of mod with the fonts that I saw somewhere. You're going to have to Google it, but it has something to do with changing up the fonts of your phone, you'll probably need root access.
I know that GO keyboard and Go SMS support emojis but that's not for apps like Twitter, only for messaging iPhone users.
Let me know if I helped you out.
