This isn't specific to the One XL but im hoping someone here has some advice.
My wife (she's on an iPhone) and I don't have a texting plan, and instead use Google Voice. Recently we noticed that we don't receive SMS through Gvoice very quickly, so we moved to using Google + messenger (formerly Huddle) to text each other. Usually it's fine and I get a notification, but we've noticed there is sometimes a delay there, as well. As on Google Voice, sometimes I don't receive a message until I wake up my phone. Is there a way to use either of these (or anything else) that will force my phone to get messages immediately? It's as if Android doesn't want to auto-sync all the time, even though I'm not using any battery saving settings and have auto-sync turned on.
I'm using ViperXL and the Bulletproof kernel, but this started happening under CM10.

I have linked my Google Voice to my Sprint line, but now every text message I receive goes to the Google Voice app, as well as the Text app on the Nexus S. Is there some way to DISABLE texts to the Google Voice app? I'm not a fan of the interface.
Everything is going to your Google voice inbox so you have to Unselect notifications in your Google voice app and may sure text messages is select it.

Im having this EXACT problem.
I enabled Google Voice Intigration for my Sprint number. Everything was working normally for a day or two. Txt messages were going to the normal messaging app.
But now txt messages ONLY go to the Google Voice app. Messing with notifications does nothing. My normal messaging app no longer receives the txt's at all.
Is there anyway to fix this? I can live with using the Google Voice app, but id much rather use the normal app.
EDIT: FIXED IT!!! ZOMG!
I didnt have this checked on my Google Voice settings (for some reason it is unchecked by default!)

I don't have that option in my settings. When I sign out of voice on my phone, I miss all calls and don't get texts. Very weird.

You don't get two messages now? When I changed it I get one message from Google voice and one from stock.

Works perfect for me.
Go into the Google Voice app on the phone, and turn off all the notifications.
Then goto settings in voice.google.com and enable the one setting that i have circled in the screenshot above.
This problem frustrated me for HOURS yesterday until i found that one setting.

another thing to look out for: I've noticed several times, usually when reinstalling the Google Voice app, it will disable receiving sms messages to my cell.
If you're not receiving texts for any reason, I'd check your google voice settings (on the web: google.com/voice) then, on the website go to Settings > Phones > Edit > Text Settings (check).
EDIT wait.. did u modify the original post? Or am i crazy..
Maybe this is another thing entirely. I get texts while using google voice but only with google voice.
However, I want my phone to receive MMS/SMS the way it normally (used to) so I can still use handcent.
This whole thing pisses me off to no end. NONE of the settigs are working right. I'm now missing ALL calls and texts. Totally disabled GV on phone and web and still nothing...

So you *want* to recv all texts thru handcent, but you're not? If that's the case, it sounds like the forward sms setting isn't checked (my post above).

I just want to point out that NONE of this worked for me. The ONLY way I was able to make it so that I was getting text notifications and receiving phone calls was to completely disassociate my number with GV and sign out of the GV app on my phone.
No matter what combo of settings I tried, I would miss every single phone call (phone would never ring), not be notified of voicemails (even though email and text were chosen as notifications), and my texts would all go to the GV app but it would never notify me even if I had the settings right on the website and the phone.
I have also tried all of the mentions above, with no success. I actually sent texts to myself from my computer, and tested a ton of combinations of settings.
The main thing I've learned is that it is impossible (so far) to receive a text to the STOCK app, and NOT to Google Voice.
I changed settings on GV from my phone app, as well as on my GV on the computer.

Yes if you ported your number all your texts go through Google voice now.
You PORTED your number. Any calls or texts go through Google voice now and are handled by Google. Your texts and voicemails are saved in the Voice cloud.
If you don't want to use Voice as your messaging app just turn off notifications.
Its really not that complicated.

Have any of you heard of this?
Yesterday my phone decides it's NOT going to send SMS through the stock messaging app. I don't get an error, it appears as though it sends, but my recipient never receives it.....most of the time. Sometimes they go thru, sometimes they don't. It seems to mostly NOT go thru.
If the SMS does NOT go through, I can never see it in Google Voice.
If I use the Google Voice SMS app on my phone, recipient receives 100% of their SMS, same with Web interface.
If I disable my Google Voice account via the web and sign out via my phone, my recipient receives 100% of their SMS using the stock app.
I have all the settings nailed. Google Voice is set to sync, background data enabled, etc.... It was, has been working flawlessly up until yesterday with nothing on the phone changing.
I have wiped, reflashed, tried different ROMs, etc....
Today I called Sprint, they re-provisioned things, then basically said since it's a third party app they can't help. I want to beat my head against a wall here.
Anyone have any idea of what the problem could be?
I can't offer any help but I can tell you I saw the exact same problem all day on the 16th and 17th. I've since switched the Google Voice app to use it's own notifications and turned off the text notifications. For the time being, I'm not even using the stock messaging app.
I remember Sprint having an SMS problem a few months ago one afternoon, but it wasn't specific to GV. Maybe something in their GV integration system is a little wacky right now. People said they got about half of the messages I was sending before I switched to the GV app full time.
Good to know I'm not the only one. Looks like a couple of other people have the same problem over in the Google help forums. I de-integrated my account for almost two days, I'm getting ready to re-integrate it now, we shall see what happens. The support for these phones is god awful. If this doesn't resolve it I'm driving to the nearest corporate store and returning it through their window.
LOL! I'm hoping it doesn't come to that, but if you do decide to "return" it, you may want to attach a brick or something. This phone feels way to light to do any damage without a little extra help.

Here's a little update. Not really a good one, but whatever...
All of the text messages I had tried to send though the stock messaging app must have made it to Sprint at least because they all just dumped en mass upon their intended recipients. I got a pile of very confused responses.
Maybe the issue has been resolved. I'll switch my settings back and experiment a little.

That didn't happen to me, but it does appear that my texts are going through. There's one person who says she never gets some, but I can see they're sycning to GV now, where they weren't before. Everyone else is getting my texts too. I have no idea what happened but I'm a little at ease knowing someone else had the problem. I hope it never happens again, I rely on SMS for my business.
Does anyone use google voice? I did the sprint integration with google voice, and I love it. But ever since I did the integration, I seem to have an issue with people getting old/duplicate texts, not receiving texts until a while after I sent it (sometime almost a day later), and sometimes it sends to multiple people (this has only happened twice).
A few days before this I flashed Synergy on my EVO 3d. So I'm not sure if it's the ROM or Google Voice.
I also use "Go Launcher" & "Go Messages/SMS" if that makes a difference...
Anyone have any insight?
not sure if it helps you,but I don't have the sprint integration, so not sure if that affects anything...
I do use google voice, and go launcher, and a cyanogen rom, but not the go messages app...and I've not noticed any lag time in sending or receiving...and I try to do all my texting in the GV app.
I have also used executive assistant to reply to some txt messages, since it supports GV and even with that can't say I've noticied any lag
So for a while now I've had issues texting my brother, he has an iPhone 5c and I of course have a Nexus 5. I have extensively troubleshot this and searched online for solutions. Some said something about a bug in the Nexus 5 hardware that causes SMS messages not to go through on LTE or WiFi or something...but this only affects my brother's number
Whenever I send an SMS on hangouts (or the old stock messages app on CM11) to my brother, he never gets them. My phone shows that it has sent but he never gets it. He does receive my MMS messages. I tried changing apps, turning on and off various connectivity (bluetooth, wifi, LTE, data, etc) and only once he was able to get a message when I shut off WiFi, but I wasn't able to reproduce it again.
I get all his messages right now, but at one point I wasn't able to get his SMS messages either.
I traded my SIM into another older phone and he received all my SMS messages. Put it back in my Nexus 5, still the same problem. I tried a full reset with CM, a full reset to stock, I even had the problem with the phone I RMA'd for an unrelated issue. I'm stumped, because all the other numbers I have recieve my texts just fine, and I've long since removed extra devices from my old iCloud account.
Any ideas??
Are you sure the problem is on your side? I know that in Android you can block certain contacts from calling\texting you - I would make sure you're not blocked, found this online: http://ios.wonderhowto.com/how-to/b...messages-imessages-your-iphone-ios-7-0147393/
Wait, you're using CM. Do you use Google Voice? Is Voice+ enabled? And does this happen on other ROMs? Which carrier are you on and which carrier is he on?
I use the Google Voice app to send SMS because I want to send SMS from my GV number, not my VZN number. Correct me if I am wrong, but it is my understanding that is the only way that works currently. I know Cyanogenmod has some extra integration with Google Voice but I have a Galaxy S 5 so CM is not an option (locked bootloader).
My problem with the Google Voice app is that I get delays of 5+ minutes sending SMS where it goes into "Queued" and "Sending" for long periods of times, then sometimes it has to fail and retry to send. Eventually they always go through but it might take 10+ minutes.
I'm not sure what causes the delay or if there is a workaround. I've seen stuff online about deleting old conversation threads (which sounds dubious to me - why would that cause a delay?) but I tried it and it made no difference. Any suggestions as to workarounds for this issue? Thanks.
