The scheme is! a router tp-link 1043nd. to it on usb external hard we catch to 1TB. on android handset, set ftp client, set up and get a terabyte in the air. question? is there a similar drop box, the setting on ftp? in order to get away with all foreign services, and only use your hard. The second question? whether the program, similar to Titanium backup, but again the setting for FTP?

Hello,
is there a possibility to exchange some files between my Orbit 2 and my Macbook (OS X 10.4)? I tried to use a computer-to-computer network but couldn't get it working. So can anyone help me please? Unfortunately I'm new to Apple and Windows Mobile. So please be very precise when you describe what I have to do (think about a DAU² ).
Ah yes: I don't want to synchronise anything (like adresses or so), just wanna exchange some music/videoclips via wifi (hope this is faster than bluetooth where I only get ~100kb/s). Thank you very much!
Hi, I have just started to use SyncMate which is free to sync my iTunes music library on my Mac with my TyTN II. It works really well but I have been using a USB rather than WiFi connection. The program does support WiFi though.
You can download the software from
http://blog.eltima.com/2008/01/sync-your-mac-and-a-smartphone-with-syncmate.html
Although this is sync software it should also be able to do what you want as you can Sync a folder on your Mac with a folder on your phone which will enable you to transfer files to and fro.
Good luck and be interested to hear if the WiFi sync works!
if boths were connected to the wifi router it would be a matter of setting up normal filesharing like between 2 computers
if otherwise one would have to do it as adhoc network
but i dont know how these things are handled on macs
on pc's it the pc sharing would have to be running the server service
and have the pda as a user with reading and writing rights
And BT ? or MissingSync
I have an old iMac and I made some ringtones. I sent them by BT with no problem. I dropped Syncmate cause I got some issues with the calendars and the contacts. MissingSync is perfect but not free. You can install whatever but you need a cable. Will try to check the WiFi
Yes, with bluetooth I managed to send some files. But speed was not that fantastic (~100kb/s). So I'll try to get it working with Wifi. Maybe speed there is better. I got my device recognized by the Macbook and an IP was sent to my phone but I don't know how to access to files. Unfortunately I have no time for the next two weeks to test it any further. Please post your efforts if you have success. Thanks!
So, I already got what I want (even better). I found the freeware MochaSoft FTP-Server. This software has to be installed on your PDA. It youses the FTP-Protokoll. Therefore it lets your PDA act as an FTP-Server. All you need then is an Internet Browser, which has an FTP-Client (for example Internet Explorer or you use the fireftp-extension for Firefox). Now you can access your PDA and exchange files via Wifi. Speed is much better than Bluetooth (~700kb/s read and 680kb/s write). The good thing is, that you aren't limited to the platform anymore. (I don't know if the standard Linux browser has an ftp-client, but my beloved Firefox has a Linux-Version too.)
P.S. @linux-users: Please don't kill me for my last sentence. I believe that linux is able to handle these things out of the box. It's more for us windows users to know that it's possible.
My Goal: To be able to backup all the files I want over my home wifi, either to my computer's hard drive, or to somewhere on the internet.
I thought this would be fairly simple. I have Titanium Media Sync, and I set it up to sync with dropbox. I have a lot of dropbox space (I know some tricks ). However, the 300MB file size limit means that I cannot backup my ROMS (they are too big).
This is a frustrating problem for me. I installed the filezilla server, and tried to connect to it via Titanium Media sync, but it didn't work. My idea is that it has something to do with the fact that I am using University internet, and I have a router (that I think is "NAT" though I don't know what that means).
So...what's the best option for me?? I'd rather not mess with all this ftp stuff if there is an easier way to transfer large files over my wifi.
I've considered SMB...but only because I heard of it somewhere...I actually have no idea what that is either hahaha
As the title states, just curious if there is a way to make wi-fi direct work between phone and PC or vice-versa. I know there are wi-fi file explorers, but for s single file or picture is there anything for that?
Im pretty sure your phone comes with an app pre-installed for this, but i use airdroid

WiFi direct is only for Samsung devices to other select Samsung devices. It doesn't work with my older Samsung TV, but does work with my friend's brand new Samsung TV. AFAIK, it does not work to connect to a PC.
The other on-device options suck out loud (Kies Air, AllShare Play, etc.). They all require additional software to be loaded on the PC and some are dependent on Samsung's server piece to be operational, which goes down like a $5 ***** faced with a stack of hundreds.
If you want to just 'see' the picture or movie on a PC / Laptop / TV, Settings > More Settings > Nearby Devices is tolerable. It's basically DLNA for the phone. ONLY ALLOW the devices on your LAN that you want to share media to. If you choose Allow All and forget to turn it off, it will share it publicly if you connect to WiFi at McDonald's, Starbucks, Library, etc. PCs show up as Windows-Media-Player, and other devices will be SamsungWiselinkPro or SamsungSmarTV, etc.
I'd recommend to use either Airdroid or WiFi File Explorer and save yourself a LOT of headaches to transfer the files to a PC.

Yeah I have had Wifi File Explorer Pro for a good two years and love it, I was just wondering if there was a better option. Based on the responses above I think I will just stick with what I've got!
If you want to transfer files, Kies Air is actually one of the best choices. It's definitely underrated, probably because of the complicated install process, but once you get the hang of it, it's a very streamlined process.
Most file manager apps support Windows shares, so you can transfer stuff that way too. I use AirDroid though mostly. Heck, you can get an FTP app on your Droid and FTP into it from Windows if you like, make sure you change your IP address in Wifi advanced settings to the one you want to use all the time, and map a network drive in Windows to your phone.
why not an FTP server?
search for the "ftp server" from developer "the olive tree" first of all it's super secure since you can add username and password to it (from the settings) so it's safe even at public wifi hotspots and second It's got 4+ stars! COMMON! lol and the 3rd and the best part (I know you were waiting for this ) It's free
you can copy to/from your phone to/from your computer! just open the app and click on the red power button when it turns green you're good to go it gives you an address you need to type that in your explorer (my documents or my computer would be perfect) and your phone's content is there just be careful not to delete anything you don't know
use at your own risk LMAO and I'm not paid to promote it
Air droid is good, but theres a monthly limit. For small amounts of data (I think it's 100MB per month) it's perfect.

Hello
I have a HTC One x and an Asus infinty tf700. I want to transfer files from my Hox to the tf700 without using Bluetooth as it takes ages.. I thought I could just plug in the Hox into the tf700 and off I go.. but Noo .... Lol. I have tried WiFi file transfer and fast file transfer. Still no luck. Any thought
Thank You

Hi There,
I do almost exactly that on a regular basis, only with TF700 and HOX+. Install and configure WebDAV server on your TF700T,
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.icecoldapps.webdavserverultimate
Just need to set up the right IP address on your wifi network. Then use ES File Explorer (or similar) on your phone to access all of the files on your tablet. You will be able to move, copy and even stream from your tablet (Including any files on an external hard drive connected to the tablet) directly to your phone. You just need to set up an FTP connection to your tablets WebDAV server you have started using the IP address etc.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.estrongs.android.pop
You ideally would be on the same wifi network, but you can in fact set it up for wifi hotspot as well if no router is available. All the settings are remembered so you just need to start and stop the WebDAV server as you need and ensure that the wifi on your phone/tablet doesn't go to sleep. I wouldn't advise keeping the webdav server running all the time as this will possibly be a battery drain.
I can get anywhere up to around 5MB/sec transfer speed and it's pretty stable and reliable. You don't need root or anything to use the above method either. I'm pretty sure I have streamed full HD from hard disk, via tablet to my phone no problems. (with phone MHL HDMI in to my TV... just because I can!) but would normally just use tablet HDMI of course. I find it very useful to sync photos and important files.
To go one stage further you can use webdav file manager to set up auto sync, sync on schedule etc as well.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jp.ddo.shigadroid.webdavfilemanager
I use that to sync my picture folders.
Hope that helps as it took me a long time to find the right combination of programmes to make it work properly! I wish I could just plug my phone into the usb port and transfer that way as the speed is much better for large files over a gig or so.
Cheers for the reply.
I installed webdav server and setup a server and I can't seem to find it through es file explorer.. I can see my PC IPs but not my other android device.
I tried accessing my HOX from my TF700 after setting the Webdav server on my HOX and I couldnt see it at all through ES.
I then tried it in reverse. I could see my TF700 ip through ES but when I would try connecting to it, it would just fail.
Am I missing something...
Thank You

I wish I could check and post screen shots but my TF700 is away for RMA repair.
Just double check the IP of the sever you have started and the port are both matched. I don't think there is much to the settings on WebDav. Do you have a firewall that would be blocking the port from being open?
Ill try to put webdav on my phone and double check the settings from memory tonight. As soon as I get my tab back ill confirm for you if you havenr already figured it out.
John
P.s. don't forget the thanks button! :fingers-crossed::angel::angel:

Superbean uses Wifi direct and you can get high transfer speed between two Wifi direct devices.
If your computer isn't Wifi direct computer (most likely no) you can use AirDroid which has great user interface.
Backing up camera photos, messenger pics, contacts, documents etc. to Windows in their original format.
Smartphone: unrooted Mate9 with Android 8
What I used to do:
Connect my previous phone (rooted Ascend Mate) to Windows via USB, it's SD card got connected as a real mass storage device. I then ran a custom robocopy batch routine that backed up/mirrored all the important things to my computer. I folder mounted everything interesting from the internal memory to the SD card, like messenger pics.
This worked really great.
Problem I have now:
My new Mate9 does not support true USB mass storage connection anymore. It only supports this awful pseudo MTP file transfer connection to Windows.
This makes robocopy unusable because it only works with real drives with an assigned letters of course.
I really don't know what to do now.
Any cloud backup solution is not an option for me, because of sensitive data and slow internet. Full phone backups feel like an overkill and I cannot access the files on the computer directly.
I know that some people run a samba server or something on their phones to turn the storage into NAS drives. (Robocopy supports NAS I think) This seems to be maximum overkill and difficult to setup and resource intense but I'm interested if its the only way.
Any tips? Thank you
Don't know much about Windows, or MPT for that matter, but perhaps you could map your device (folders you need) to a letter drive? If I recall correctly, that mapping will allow you to read the files located on the MPT drive.
This is acually possible. I found a commercial software that lets you map a driver letter to an MTP device but it's $40.
Did some more research and getting a drive letter for Android storage over WiFi is acually stupidly easy.
Just install WebDav Server on Android and click the button. Then on Windows Explorer -> Map Network Driver and enter the IP displayed on Android. Thats literally it.
I only hope that I can get two drive letters for internal and external storage. Need to try.
So I found a complete solution that I'm VERY happy with!
Its running two WebDAV servers on Androind, one for accessing the internal storage and one for the sd card. This allows me to map 2 network drives in Windows and that means robocopy magic!
Here is how I did it:
1. Install the free app WebDAV Server Ultimate. This app allows you to run multiple servers at once AND let you specify custom storage paths. Both things that the other popular app WebDAV Server can't do!
2. Create two new servers in the app with the plus button and specify the according storage paths. Also make sure these two servers use different ports. The name can be specified freely. Click on the play button to start the servers.
3. Open the Windows Explorer and click "Map network drive" in the top bar. A new window pops up: Pick a drive letter you want and enter the Network IP of your smartphone and the port under "Folder" like this example sceme: \\192.168.178.01:8080 Also check the box "Reconect at logon" if you want the drives to still be there after a restart. The your current phone IP can be viewed in the WebDAV app when you klick on the info icon.
Thats it basically. After that you have your internal storage and sd card mapped to driveletters in Windows over WiFi. Just write your robocopy routine and do one click backups You can check "Keep the device fully alive" in the WebDAV app settings which helped stability and might improve speed. I got about 4-5 MB/s which isn't fast but fast enough for me.
One more thing:
If you use Windows 7 and you want to transfer files bigger 50 MB you have to do this registry workaround by Microsoft. For security reasons, Windows 7 limits WebDAV filetransfers at 50 MB by default.

Good stuff, I'd consider making a how-to thread in your devices forum for others!
